Lose in November

Following on from the previous monthly loss threads, here’s November’s thread. I’ve omitted goal specifics of a certain number of lbs because as we’ve seen we are losing at different rates or maintaining. We need to create our own eating plan that is sustainable, enjoyable and provides all the nutrients we need to be healthy. It isn’t about extremes.

These threads are becoming quite holistic in nature and offer support to enable everyone to build & maintain emotional resilience and good mental health which undoubtedly underpins healthy eating habits and lifestyle. That said, we mustn’t forget we are human and with that comes fallibility ..... It’s at those times the support on these threads is second to none. The support I’ve seen on these threads (and personally benefitted from 🙏) is awesome. I’ve not once seen any unkind or harsh posts. You’ve all been awesome 👏.

I’ve just had a light bulb moment in regards to my 7lb weight gain in 2 weeks😮. Most definitely it must be water retention because to have gained 7lbs of fat I would have needed to have eaten 24,500 extra calories over TDEE. In a way remembering this lessens the panic Grin

@Mungomango you are very welcome.

@SunshineCake hope you feel better tomorrow.

It must be that Busted. Keep drinking the water and flush it all out! Lots of fruit and veggies too.

BustedDreams · 17/11/2019 21:33

Good idea @Mungomango 😬

Busted sometimes the potassium in bananas helps flush out the salt.
see if you can incorporate half or a full one.
DH has gone off to check his hives and i'm a tad more relaxed after taking control of lunch.
DH knows I need to stick close to 1200 counted calories as sneaky little ones (heaping tea spoon, extra bites, milk in my tea etc easily bring me close to 1300).
He knows how to count calories as he too watches what he eats (although at 6'3" can have 2,000 a day).
He cooks 1/3 of our meals or maybe even more, so after making me a lovely breakfast he shows me the protein count, carbs, fat etc all so very proud of himself....but WTF it was 488 calories.
when i point that out, he's not particularly genuine and says shit like not my fault your mom made you with short legs, just adjust your lunch, i'm going to have sardines (which i don't eat EVER and gag each time i have to clean out the little tins before recycling them blah).
this lovely breakfast is one we have nearly every sunday which he originally told me was 350 calories. he has over time tweaked the recipe and gotten lazy with the portion size. so the recipe makes 6 crepes i would have 2, yes i noticed he was now making 4 not 6...so thicker.
i had noticed but not really looked into why but now i know.

DownUdderer · 18/11/2019 02:57

That’s tricky @fallfallfall. My dh doesn’t cook for me so I don’t have that problem, he cooks for the kids but I get forgotten (bring out the violins!!). But never mind at least I can then try and grab something low carb for myself.

I had some chocolate and sugary crap yesterday evening and it really made me crabby this morning, sugar can effect my moods in a bad way.

I’m dreaming of shifting two pounds this week or over ten days maybe. My BMI is nearly a good number!

fallfallfall · 18/11/2019 03:15

i need to be careful what i wish for, so i'll stick to his cooking and try and pay better attention to detail.
i thought cheese was the devil but i now see that the devil is in the detail ;)

BustedDreams · 18/11/2019 05:05

Morning All

@fallfallfall the devil is in the detail. I totally get this. I cook .... a lot. Everything is from scratch. Some things require tasting during cooking to check it’s seasoned correctly. I’ve never added those tastes to my daily cc. This I must start to do.

Today’s lunch home made soup (no gluten free bread). Fish and vegetables evening meal. White tea, 1 coffee with cream, jug water.

Still in bed so not weighed yet. Up? Down? Anyone’s guess.

Wishing everyone a great week!

MrsJonesAndMe · 18/11/2019 06:26

Ah, that would be irritating @fallfallfall

I made a small but good decision last night to stop eating after tea, so I will have had a 16hr fast for the first time in a while. Now I just need to keep sticking to the right decisions. Feel absolutely shattered and muscles ache. Just don't know how I can fit in more sleep/rest/do less. Bah!

Hope you're feeling better @SunshineCake and good luck on the renewed effort @BustedDreams

Happy Monday all!

BustedDreams · 18/11/2019 07:52

2nd Post - just braved the scales = 10st 6.6lbs. That a loss of 1.5lbs since yesterday Grin Here’s hoping it all comes off as quick as it went on and it’s going to be a great week!

So I’m now 10st 4lb. Creeping ever higher. Crazy. It was my wedding anniversary so I’m starting tomorrow afresh. Spin tonight and PT in the morning.

BustedDreams · 18/11/2019 17:28

@Faultymain5 Congratulations on your anniversary 😊. I agree, best to take charge of weight gain before it takes charge of you. Sounds like you’ve a plan!

OP posts:
MrsJonesAndMe · 18/11/2019 19:51

Hurrah @BustedDreams

You can do it @Faultymain5

OK, I'm going to focus on the positive stuff:

  • lots of water
  • 5 veg
  • taken my tablets/vits
  • yoga
  • fresh air/walk in the sunshine

Now I need to build on it! Night all

BustedDreams · 18/11/2019 20:46

@MrsJonesAndMe you can do this! Night.

DownUdderer · 19/11/2019 05:34

I’ve not planned to well today and now I’m hungry! But I’ll hold off eating until dinner, about an hour away. I’ll have steak and veg with butter on. Yum.

I pulled a beach cart up a huge steep walkway today, I was puffed out, so it must have been good exercise! Going down the slope in the first place was tricky due to the slope and the weight of the cart!

I’d love a pound off this weekend.

BustedDreams · 19/11/2019 12:16

@DownUdderer that would do me too! Was gaining daily (meds related) but that seems to be reversing now. Weighed this morning to find I’m 145.5lbs. I’ve parred back carbs and having a few veggie days. Yesterdays lunch was home made soup. OH had to go away unexpectedly so gave the fish a miss and had soup for evening meal too with a small portion of cheese & nuts.

Today I’m doing roast cauli with a spicy drizzle. Roast veg tray bake later. To be honest, all things considered, I’d be happy to end the month where I started Grin

Hi ladies. Sidling in as today has been all about the processed, sugary carbs Blush DC up ill from 4AM onwards - guess I don't need to say any more yawn

Pleased to hear it's going down now @BustedDreams and well done on the exercise and will power @DownUdderer

Hope you're OK @Galvantula @cheesenpickles @Foreverlexicon @SunshineCake and the other time zoners too @fallfallfall etc

SunshineCake · 19/11/2019 16:49

Hi everyone

Didn't sleep very well as had horrible pain just as I was going to settle down. Took pain relief but still had a broken night.

Up a pound but I've been eating bits of chocolate. Today I have discovered some delicious limited edition sweets from M and S and have had some but no chocolate.

Step count is currently 14437 with active time noted as 2 hours 26 minutes.

Need to replan dinner as bought for two and now there's four but I'll do lots of extra veg for me.

Hope everyone else has had good day.

Galvantula · 19/11/2019 16:51

Hello @MrsJonesAndMe. Thanks for asking. Unfortunately I caught the DCs stomach bug so I've eaten nothing but 2 paracetamol today. 😷 I had a rotten headache and whole body aching and shivering all morning. Bleh.

MFP will be very confused at my lack of logging any food all day! Not the best weight loss plan...

Galvantula · 19/11/2019 16:53

@SunshineCake my step count appears to be 403 😅 I've been curled up in bed all day with this bug. Even my skin hurt so every time I got up the cold made me feel sore.

ConfusedAndStressed95 · 19/11/2019 16:55

Can I join, I've been very up and down with it all but I'm using the LoseIt app and it's great for tracking what I'm eating without feeling like I'm being deprived or focusing completely on calories. It helps me make smarter choices.

Galvantula · 19/11/2019 17:12

Hi confused.

I find the same with the MFP app. I'm thinking about what I eat through the whole day/week and do I really need that snack...

fallfallfall · 19/11/2019 17:51

hi everyone, i'm taking control of my meals...breakfast for starters!
my weight is not surprisingly up...thank you salty supper lovingly prepped by dh AGAIN.
my exercise routine is going well :).
last appointment with the hand specialist (dr.) today
i need to increase my water and log the food choices

SunshineCake · 19/11/2019 18:15

403 is excellent @Galvantula when you've been poorly!

I made up my dinner. Scallops sautéed with mushrooms and cabbage with cauliflower with melted cheese on the side. Lovely.

fallfallfall · 19/11/2019 18:19

Get well soon Galvantula. Achy all over sucks.
Hello Confused.

Mungomango · 19/11/2019 20:41

Get well soon Galvantula

I feel like I'm taking one step forward, two steps back at the moment. I'm up +1lb today, hoping it's just water retention ((fingers crossed)). I've definitely been overdoing the snacks at the moment, they're mainly healthy but even so...

Anyway, my positives are that I went for a 30 minute bike ride this morning and did 15k steps yesterday. My promise to myself today is: only cucumber/carrot sticks for snacks and lots of water!

Will look up LoseIt @ConfusedAndStressed95, that sounds like a good one. I've been using Noom to track calories but I'm a bit confused as sometimes it says oats are red foods (i.e. need to be limited) and other times it's a green food!
