Desperately need to lose this weight. I can't use the excuse of I've just had a baby because DS will 5 in November!! 4 years ago I only needed to lose 1.5 stone, now it's 2.5. Would like to do something along the lines of low fat/low calorie diet, with exercise 3 or 4 times per week, but really do need a bit of support, as I tend to weaken very easily....

Would anyone like to join me, with a weekly weigh-in, day to day support etc?

Hi I've just found this thread, can I join too? Currently 11.3, aiming for 9.8 or thereabouts. I started doing a vaguely low-GI, low-fat diet last week and lost 3 lb, but that might have had more to do with DD being poorly and running me ragged than anything else!

I'm terrible for snacking when I'm bored and I don't do any exercise except buggy pushing, could use a kick up the backside!

mazzystar · 14/08/2007 16:36

trying not to be envious of those of you who only have 1 stone or so to shift. i am going to have to be in this for the long haul. nice not to be alone though

been ok today so far. 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch, just having a cup of gazpacho as a snack, planning grilled chicken, broccoli and salad for supper. loads of water, herbal tea. only excercise has been double buggy pushing for about 25 minutes though.

i don't find it easy to talk about being on a diet to people in real life, i think it makes me feel vulnerable somehow or that it focusses people on my fatness in a way that i hope they don't usually. so its nice to have a gang to talk to.

going to a festival this weekend, hoping that i will not succumb to felafel/pie temptation

slayerette · 14/08/2007 16:55

Hello everyone! Well done for sticking with it so far. I was v good yesterday but felt dizzy mid-morning today so had two jaffa cakes; they're ok aren't they?

Thunderpants - I think you and I sound as if we're in exactly the same boat! Should definitely keep each other going.

Off to have a dried apricot...

Judy1234 · 14/08/2007 18:05

And on web sites there is also sparkpeople which is entirely free of charge and you can key in what you eat and it works out the calories etc if you think it's healthy to be that detailed over food.

fedda · 14/08/2007 19:33

So far I stayed well on my healthy plan. I'm hoping to do some aerobics when my DS is in bed. Good luch to everyone.

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 20:22

mazzy. Soup as a snack is a good idea -because you do feel as if you eaten something substantial, don't you?

Well done and keep going everyone.

If you're a chocolate ice-cream addict I'd really recommend 'skinny cow' ice lollies. They are low cal/fat but do actually taste V chocolatey. I've seen them in Sainsbury's and Waitrose so I think you should be able to get them at most places.

I'm trying very hard not to think of a bottle of sauvignon blanc.

Oh well, good for the hips and my liver, I guess.

Blu · 14/08/2007 20:55

Thunderpants - not sure I should be interrupting your weight loss thread to tell you this, but I did a bit of research into your recurranty indian chutney question, and have started a new thread about it in 'Recipes'. (couldn't find your original thread until after I started new thread)

mazzystar · 14/08/2007 21:03

i may allow myself a vodka lime and soda at some point this weekend, but i'm another all or nothing type gal with diets etc.

the gazpacho was lovely, it was a covent garden one but thinking it would be a govd thing to make myself - anyone got a recipe?

luckylady74 · 14/08/2007 21:24

i'm eating carrot sticks and i've done well i think, but i'm hungry - now is wine and crisps time! i feel i deserve them - so what can i eat/drink at night instead or should i just go to bed

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 21:33

Bed probably has the fewest calories?

Unless you've stashed some chocolate under it?

Scoobi6 · 14/08/2007 21:35

ok is it possible to lose weight and still drink a glass of red wine each night? DD is 8mo, I work full time, and so far I can cope with eating well and I even found time for a swim this evening... but I can't bear the thought of giving up my chillout with glass of red at the end of each long day!

luckylady74 · 14/08/2007 21:35

no, but i have a terrible fear of being without food and usually take cereal up to bed after the wine and crisps

luckylady74 · 14/08/2007 21:37

wine medicinal, but how to avoid eating with it - i don't believe i can!

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 21:39

Scoobi. If you can stick to having just the one glass then, it's fine.

I, however, seem to have an inability to put a cork/cap back onto a bottle once it's been opened.

Scoobi6 · 14/08/2007 21:40

ah I don't have that problem luckylady - its all about the wine for me! food spoils the flavour

could you have nibbles lying around that are fairly healthy in the evenings, seeds, dried fruits, that kind of thing?

Scoobi6 · 14/08/2007 21:43

thanks bubble, I bought cases of 250 ml bottles from tesco wine club to stop myself having too much. You can find £15 off £50 spend codes online, and it works out about £1 a bottle

luckylady74 · 14/08/2007 21:43

i thought olives - but i think i'm just lacking in willpower - can't stop at a few of anything!

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 21:44

luckylady. Some crisps are OK.

Quavers and Twigletts are fairly low cal/fat. As are Squares and French Fries.

I'm outing myself as a crispaholic, too, aren't I?

luckylady74 · 14/08/2007 21:45

such a good idea scoobi - will add it to next shop

luckylady74 · 14/08/2007 21:46

forgot about quavers - have twiglets, but bag too big - i can finish a large bag of kettle crisps on my own!

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 21:46

Scoobi. No good for me. I'd probably end up drinking most of the case. < absolutely no self-control emoticon>

Scoobi6 · 14/08/2007 21:48

I'll own up to a french fries habit too . Trying to bargain with myself... no snacking all day means I get the little bottle of wine in the evening!

Thunderpants · 15/08/2007 08:26

Blu - thanks for the recipe - will go and check it out now, just hope it's not too loaded with calories . Have made a couple of low-fat curries this week, which were really tasty, so maybe will have some of that with it.

On the subject of tasty food, tried a Quron cottage pie (ready meal) last night, which was really very tasty. Only 176 calories, with a big plate of veg I was full. usually cook my own food, but this is a great standby if you're short of time.

Please may I join too? I am desperate for crisps choc and cake right now only because I am bored at work.

I would like to lose 2 stone, I am about 12 stone and want to be 10. Really struggling to lose this last 2 stone after having my DD (she is just 2 years old now)

I love these low cal recipe ideas btw and am emailing them to myself at home!

Please give me encouragement not to eat!

Thunderpants · 15/08/2007 10:40

hi bogwitch and welcome! Only on day 3, but so far doing ok. I'm following a 1500 calorie a day diet, which is quite generous, but as I need 2200 to maintain my weight I'm hoping to lose about 1.5 lbs per week. Hope it goes well!
