Desperately need to lose this weight. I can't use the excuse of I've just had a baby because DS will 5 in November!! 4 years ago I only needed to lose 1.5 stone, now it's 2.5. Would like to do something along the lines of low fat/low calorie diet, with exercise 3 or 4 times per week, but really do need a bit of support, as I tend to weaken very easily....

Would anyone like to join me, with a weekly weigh-in, day to day support etc?

Leander. I know what you mean about bread. I try to limit it as much as possible because what goes with bread?? Butter. And I love the stuff!

I'm going to have a wholemeal pita bread for lunch today with ham, salad and a small amount of light mayo. Also some veg. soup.

Breakfast was porridge with s/skimmed and a banana and I don't feel too hungry at the moment. By this stage of the day, I'd have usually had a pile of toast, butter and marmite and at least one packet of crisps.

Well done everyone. Keep going. It really helps to be able to post here.

There was a quote I read recently...

'Nothing tastes as good as slim feels.'

This will be my personal mantra from now on.

tiredemma · 14/08/2007 10:13

That is a good quote!

Its true, I keep admiring myself in the mirror!

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 10:14

How much does everyone want to lose?

I am 14st8. I'm 5ft6 and would like to get down, eventually, to 10st8.

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 10:17

tiredemma (love that name, btw. )

I watched a 'Diet Doctors' programme recently and part of the 'treatment' was to spend at least ten minutes a day looking in the mirror at all parts of the body and not just the bits we like. It helps to make losing weight more attainable, apparently.

Leander · 14/08/2007 10:23

i am 5'3" and i am 11.6 and would like to get to 9.7 maybe a bit less but will see when i get to it.In my younger days i was a size 6 and i loved it but wouldn't want to be like that again(not that i ever could )i would like to be a 10 but more realistically a 12.

tiredemma · 14/08/2007 10:25

Yes bubble- Im doing that a lot ( more than ten minutes!)

A few moths ago I was looking at old photos and noticed that I had those prominent collar and shoulder bones ( not sticking out- but noticable). when I looked in the mirror- I no longer had them - just flab.

Now I have them again and I love to poke at them in the mirror!

My name comes from the dark days when ds2 would only sleep for 3 hours a night- he is ok now but I wont change my name- I like it!

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 10:35

tiredemma. Losing 1.5 stone is fantastic. Do you find that you have more energy?

I notice that, even if it's only a few pounds, any weight loss makes me feel more like getting active.

I've got a real chicken and egg type problem. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and they are much more painful and likely to swell if I'm overweight (as I am now.) Even walking any distance at the moment means I end up in pain, usually the next day.

So, I'm going to try swimming until I've got some weight off, when I'll hopefully be able to start walking a proper distance each day.

Judy1234 · 14/08/2007 11:03

On calories someone asked if 1200 was normal. That's quite low for a sustainable diet over time. 1400 is probably better. If you just want to maintain your current weight you probably need nearer 1800 depending on your size.

I find I feel best when I have three regular meals and no snacks at all. I feel much better for giving up caffeine a couple of weeks ago although that's not a weight issue really and I can't have a bit of chocolate/sweets as I'm quite addicted to sugar so it's all or nothing. I just have to avoid it and then it's fine.

AnAngelWithin · 14/08/2007 11:04

morning all. how are you all?

had shredded wheat and half a piece of toast for breakfast. I am trying to stay away from too much bread as it just makes me feel so sluggish in my stomach.

last night ended up manic and i ended up having a small piece of the lasagne with loads of salad and about 6 chips!!

was going to take the kids to the park with their tennis rackets today but it is pouring down with rain. so got to occupy them all inside, which means exersize will be limited. Going to go on my stepper in a bit before lunch cos exersizing before a meal speeds up the metabolism.

if the rain stops at some point i will go out for a walk to pay some bills. not the best way to get exersize!! rather be walking round shops spending the money!!

PinkChick · 14/08/2007 11:06

LOL at collar bones..i was talking to dp other night about getting a necklace to go with dress for friends wedding and he said he thinks it will be too much..i said well TBH as im a bit brown now and have lost a bit of weight, you can see the bones in my neck and i like to see them..its the only slim looking part of me

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 11:07

Xenia. I'm all or nothing with wine, so that's had to go.

I agree about upping the daily allowance for calories if there is more weight to shift. I need to lose four stone, so I'm allowing myself 1400 until I've shifted some of it. Any less at the moment and my body would probably go into 'starvation mode' and retain all of my fat.

PinkChick · 14/08/2007 11:08

bubble99, my mum is same as you with her knees and although tried to slim, never lasts, i wish i could help, but even tho im cutting down i cant make a grown woman do the same..it would benefit her health so much(diabetes/osteo/ashema(sp)

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 11:09

Pleeeeease. Is it nearly lunchtime yet?

PinkChick · 14/08/2007 11:10

just have early one if your hungry, then early dinner and good snack later on..otherwise youll be starving and eat rubbish!

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 11:14

Good idea, PinkChick.

Actually, as I had breakfast at 7am ,it probably isn't too early.

PinkChick · 14/08/2007 11:18

no, thats way early, ive already had a bowl of my home paid slimming pasta and i had branflakes at 8am..i do find melon filling, sweet and as its water based(honeydew) helps with quick slimming?!

fedda · 14/08/2007 11:45

Do you think if I have 1 hard boiled egg with salad for lunch it would be okay?

Bubble99 · 14/08/2007 11:49

Yes, fedda. You must make sure that you eat enough.

I'd have the egg with some tuna as well in a salad.

Lizzzombie · 14/08/2007 12:04

Its really important to eat enough. If you starve yourself then your body stores the food you do eat as fat. So really a diet is a good excuse to eat lots! (but only healthy stuff)
My top tips are:

  • Brush your teeth when you have a chocolate/biscuit craving
  • Use really strong cheddar as then you wont use so much of it (I'm a veggie and my downfall is cheese so using strong cheese really works for me)
Lizzzombie · 14/08/2007 12:05

Plus, an egg a day is fab. It contains so many minerals it should be classified as a superfood. Only one though. As more than that could affect your cholesterol.

fedda · 14/08/2007 12:50

Thank you very much. I've enjoyed my egg with some salad - just cucumbers and tomatoes. I had water for my drink. Didn't have any coffee yet. So you think cheese is okay then? I wasn't sure. Personally I like mild chedder and I don't have lots, just 2 slices. I also wonder if coffee with 2 teacpoons of honey would be okay. Thank you everyone, I've never had so much hupport. It's wonderful to feel that I'm not alone on this as even my mumn wouldn't understand.

Thunderpants · 14/08/2007 13:55

I used a fab website for a while called weightlossresources. You can sign up for a 3-day free trial, which you can then find out how many calories you need each to day to lose either 1lb/1.5 lbs or 2lbs per week. It also lists all the calorific content of things, as well as food and exercise diary. It was brilliant, but as I'm on an economy drive it had to go, even though it's only about £2 a week or soemthing. In fact, I may well sign up again - I must be saving that much in chocolate!

I know I'm a late arrival but I would like to join too. (Used to be sassy BTW)

Current weight : 11st7
Would like to be : 10st-ish

I do pilates once a week but I do need to get moving more. We move house in 4 wks to a place at the top opf a mahoosive hill, I'm hoping that will help. I'm also contemplating a Body Combat class at local gym but I am a bit scared...
