Desperately need to lose this weight. I can't use the excuse of I've just had a baby because DS will 5 in November!! 4 years ago I only needed to lose 1.5 stone, now it's 2.5. Would like to do something along the lines of low fat/low calorie diet, with exercise 3 or 4 times per week, but really do need a bit of support, as I tend to weaken very easily....

Would anyone like to join me, with a weekly weigh-in, day to day support etc?

Well yesterday I was really good - except

for the two slices of chocolate cake. It was my friends' fault - they made me do it!
On the breakfast question, Special K is useless - I'm always starving by 11. Now I have handful of dried fruit, nuts and seeds (and a natural yog if there's any) and that keeps me going all morning.

ricepuddingpaddington · 16/08/2007 11:25

I also had v.g. day yest, spoilt by mini fish and few chips at dinner time (sigh). They were horrible too. Serves me right.

sezh · 16/08/2007 12:08

Hi just found this thread, hope I can join in too. I'm currently 12.8 and want to be 10, but realistically I am going to aim for 11.7 to begin with. I started eating more healthily on Monday, but by 4pm ended up eating half a pack of ds's biscuits, and then finished them off on Tuesday! So I'm in need of some real support. For breakfast I've been having 2 wheetabix which keeps me going until lunch. If I get hungry b 4 this I'll have a coffee.

Hey all. I wasn't going to weigh myself at all but I felt my jeans getting looser on me and suddenly felt the urge to know if I had lost any weight or if it was all in my imagination - I have lost 6lbs in the past week! Yay! I was 12 stone before and am now 11 st 8lbs. My target weight is just around 10 stone 10 lbs (I'm 5'11). So...good going so far. Just wanted to share my happy news :-)

sezh · 16/08/2007 13:26

Well done loveangel. 6lb in a week is good going. Hope I get the same results next week.

bogwitch · 16/08/2007 13:38

Well done LoveAngel - 6lbs is indeed fantastic for a week's dieting. Very impressive, you must have good willpower.

And welcome sehz

I have had 3 sweets today - do wish people wouldn't bring goodies back from holiday, because I am weak

luckylady74 · 16/08/2007 14:29

congratulations loveangel - we're a similar height and though i've got a bit more to lose i think i should be following your meal plan - so do you have any carbs with your evening meal or the salad at lunch? and do you eat anything in the evening - i'm prepared to be strict if i get the same results as you!

PinkChick · 16/08/2007 14:42

Hi all, mindees asleep so got 5 mins break!...poured big bowl proodge out for brekkie only to discover no milk!..trying to run stuff down before hol, so walked to mums as planned to take LO's there today then park, had early lunch about 11.45 as starving by now, but it was all good(roast chicken, broccoli, pots, carrots, peas, cauli etc..BUT then ate three sticks of those cadbury melt thingy's with mindee 2..feel sick now tho!...bought milk so will have cereal for tea and getting last bits of shopping for hol tonight so will get cereal/milk etc...i will get weighed in morn and see how ive done then sat before i go..got my fingers crossed im below this stone

Thunderpants · 16/08/2007 15:04

I know it's not the done thing, but I find that having no breakfast really helps. I don't really feel hungry 'til around 12, which is then lunchtime. If I wake up hungry, which generally I don't, then I'll have some fruit, but I find that if I eat first thing it seems to get my stomach going, and then it expects more food a couple of hours later [?] anyone else experinced this?

have been sticking to under 1500 cals though, so doing okay so far. but then it is only 3 1/2 days since i started

fedda · 16/08/2007 15:39

I feel if you're not hungry you don't need to make yourself eat. I can't see what's wrong with not having breakfast if you don't feel like it. 12 o'clock is perfectly normal for the first food if you don't eat too much because you were hungry before. I do have breakfast if you can call it that - i prefer to have some fruit but for proper breakfast pporridge is my favourite. Unfortunately i like it with milk and honey. Anyway, I have tried my best but my tummy is really big, feels as if I'm pregnant! I know though that I'm not but it looks it. i have no excuse for it really, I just don't like exersising and I'm lazy by nature. Give me a chance to sleep for 3 hours in a day time and i will. just as well I have kids or I would.

Thunderpants · 16/08/2007 19:29

fedda - i hate exercise as well. am hoping when ds starts school in september that the walk/cycle to the school will really help. It will add up to 15 miles a week (if i don't end up driving....

OP posts:
fedda · 16/08/2007 21:25

Thunderpants, I don't even cycle! All I can do is walking and I'm not sure it helps me much. i had 1 drop scone and some meet turtellini today. Oh, dear! I had to join in the guests but it's no excuse really.

Bubble99 · 16/08/2007 21:36

Well done, LoveAngel.

I am determined not to weigh myself as I'll probably find I haven't lost much/anything and want to give up.

fedda. I'm going to get a pedometer thingy and make sure I do enough walking each day. I don't cycle, either.

I went swimming today and was feeling virtuos and ready to enjoy my 'Skinny Cow' ice cream, went to the fridge and.....

my boys had eaten them all. GGGGGrrrr.

Mr Bubble said..."Oh, they told me you'd said they could!"

There must be a KitKat somewhere?.....

fedda · 16/08/2007 21:43

I'm hungry!!!!!

Bubble99 · 16/08/2007 21:48

fedda. Have you eaten enough today?

You must make sure you do, or you will feel hungry and your body will start to store fat, as it will think there's not enough food coming in. Does that make sense?

Bubble99 · 17/08/2007 10:30

Morning all.

No slacking! Where are you all?

We've only be doing this for four days, remember?

ricepuddingpaddington · 17/08/2007 11:28

Had a Good Start today. A banana and a portion of plain greek yog with fresh raspberries. Yum. Taking kids to park later so will race them up and down big hill there a few times.
However I went to the pub with a mate last night and drank 1/2 bottle white + a G&T

Scoobi6 · 17/08/2007 12:45

I get SO hungry at work. Today I had two slices granary toast & marg for brekkie at 7, bag of french fries at 10 because I had the shakes, and by 11 I had to have my lunch, still shaking. Granary bread again with humous, carrot, peppers and spinach. Yesterday was similar, toast then an apple and a banana for snack and I still wanted lunch at 11! I'm trying to eat low GI foods to fill me up longer but I still get the shakes every 3 hours or so and feel like I need a meal, snacks not enough

slayerette · 17/08/2007 17:05

I know what you mean, Scoobi - I felt really dizzy yesterday afternoon - worried about how I was going to drive home! Trying so hard this week but wondering when my body's going to get used to eating less!

luckylady74 · 17/08/2007 20:33

i was feeling really guilty because i'd had a mcd's cheeseburger for tea but then i googled it and as i had the salad and a diet coke i'd only had the same as a sandwich - for some reason i thought it would have 1000s of calories because it was junk food not 300! not the good for me option but not awful - phew.
i'm still finding evenings really rubbish - by 10 pm i'm craving cereal - and all this water is making me wee alot but on the whole it's better than the cambridge diet which was 400 cals a day and i nearly fainted every time i stood up.
i think i'm going to sign up to weight loss resources to keep me focussed.

Thunderpants · 17/08/2007 21:47

Sounds like some people are really suffering and maybe not eating enough? I seem to be doing just about okay - feeling a bit hungry but not getting to the shaky stage. think it's because i'm only eating 700 cals less than I need to maintain my weight ie 1500 a day, which actually isn't too bad. been skipping breakfast and eating it at 9.30 pm instead! stops me munching on crisps, choc wine etc etc. Also have discovered low cal hot choc, which seems to fill me up quite a lot in the evening. someone suggested cuppa soup was good for the evenings as well.

have done no exercise at all yet, but my Enell sports bra arrived today. tbh it looks more like scaffolding, but if it does the job then it may give me the confidence to join a keep fit class (or whatever they're called these days). am tempted to join one of the over 50s groups because i know it won't be too strenous . stick with it everyone.

btw, i loved the "nothing tastes as good as slim feels" quote. it's really kept me going over the past couple of days. onward and upward!

Leander · 17/08/2007 22:39

I AM RUBBISH, i have done pretty good all week and what do i go and do , yes I went and had an Italian meal tonight, i had the whole caboodle starter main and dessert

Thunderpants · 17/08/2007 22:55

don't beat yourself up about it leander - just start again in the morning. one big meal a week isn't going to affect your long-term weight-loss that much. in fact, it might even help to keep you on the straight and narrow through the week, knowing you've got that to look foward to. I generally have a night off, where i eat a good meal and drink some wine.

OP posts:
Bubble99 · 17/08/2007 23:09

Leander, I agree with Thunderpants.

One blow-out isn't going to make a difference over the course of a week as long as you get back on the straight and narrow tomorrow morning.

FWIW, I've eaten half a bag of cocoa dusted chocolate almonds this evening and I'm really P'd off about it. I'm more P'd off at Mr Bubble for buying and not hiding them, though.

2lbs a week weight loss is what we should all be aiming for (god, I sound really bossy ) as this is sustainable and 'slow but sure.' The amount of weight you have to lose will affect how much you lose initially. It's normal for someone with a lot (like me) to lose more in the first couple of weeks, but I will be delighted if I find I've lost 2lbs on Monday morning.

Keep on truckin' folks.

Thunderpants · 18/08/2007 13:53

How's it going everyone? seems v quiet in here this morning. maybe everyone had a bad friday night! I won't be here for the weigh-in on monday morning, so will weigh-in tomorrow instead. I know i've lost some, because my clothes aren't digging in quite as much as they were last week, so hoping it'll be at least a pound off! see you all tomorrow. btw I think we should all weigh in each week, good or bad. what do you think?
