Link to previous thread here: Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3652424-half-a-stone-or-3kg-off-for-august

Morning all! Welcome to the half a stone loss challenge for September. All are welcome whatever plan or method you are following. I'm mainly following ww online with some intermittent fasting thrown in for good measure!

All I ask is that we continue the uplifting positivity and support seen on previous threads! We cheerlead each other, celebrate success and support through the harder times.

We had a great month in August with lots of losses. I don't know about you lot but the longer this goes on the more it feels like a way of life for me now rather than "being on a diet"?

Stats for me are:
Starting weight: 19st 13
Loss for August: 14lbs
Loss for 2019: 5 st 3lbs
Target for September: 10lbs off

Ready for September??

❤️❤️

Taking DS1 for fish and chips. Glad I skipped breakfast, and have already done 15k steps today as I walked for the whole 2.5 hours he was in the test. Will probably have pudding too, but then just have a couple of eggs and some tomato salad for dinner later.

cricketmum84 · 14/09/2019 12:52

How did he get on @Hopefully?

OP posts:
Hopefully · 15/09/2019 06:02

He was really happy with how he did @cricketmum84, thank you! He's quite an anxious kid, so I was thrilled to see him come out with a smile on his face. Whatever will be will be at this stage, but fingers crossed he gets in - he was averaging around 90% in the mocks he did over the summer, and they usually need to be getting around 70% to get a place according to the tutor we used, so hopefully he's done well enough.

Wow. Weighed in at 68.2kg this morning - 1.7kg up on yesterday, and 0.4kg up on the month! I knew yesterday's big lunch was going to have an impact, but I had hoped that the 26k steps I walked might offset it a bit. Obviously not. I have got sore muscles from all the walking, so I'm hoping it's a combination of muscles retaining water from the walking and the huge meal. I feel like it's properly one step forwards and two back this month! I really really want to end the month lower than I started, even if it's only a little.

I also have a big event on Thursday (birthday party for a friend) which I really want to feel good at, so I'm on a mission to be absolutely angelic about my eating between now and then in the hope of minimising any possible bloat.

To add insult to injury, I also woke up to a message from STBXH's DM this morning saying that legally I can't force the sale of the house so I basically have to accept a crap buyout offer from STBXH or stay joint owners indefinitely. I really didn't think this was true, but if it is I need to consider my options. It's a hugely complicated situation, with parents having put in money, debt to repay, a half built extension etc etc, and I really don't know how we're going to walk away from it with any kind of financial stability.

Tanaqui · 15/09/2019 07:44

@Hopefully, that sounds a really tough situation. Are you in Kent (I know they had testing yesterday)?

@AdventureTravelDreamer, how was your obstacle race?

9.12.1 this morning - hope that's a whoosh but it could be dehydration from along walk yesterday. Happy Sunday!

ScoobyCan · 15/09/2019 08:01

Good morning all, I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through the mill @Hopefully - part of my weight gain is due to ex wanting to sell house from right under my and DCs feet. Fortunately the extension is finished but so much else needs doing. I really feel for you. Thanks

On to the weigh-in this morning - again, pleased, but I had a massive headache on Weds which I think may have been a carb hangover / sugar withdrawal? It was awful!

1st Sept: 14 stone 6 // 92.8 kg // 204.6 lbs
8th Sept: 14 stone 0 // 88.9kg // 196 lbs
15th Sept: 13 stone 9 // 86.8kg // 191 lbs

Annoyingly wherever I look the equivalent in kg / lbs varies, so am gonna try to use the same website for adding those from now on. I tried on several pairs of jeans unsuccessfully last evening - I probably need to drop down to below 12.7 stone to get into them comfortably, and to still be able to breathe. I've got another couple of months to do that, and then later on when I'm in the 10s I'll relax a little on the strictness of the 16:8 and ketosis. Particularly around the Christmas party time!

AdventureTravelDreamer · 15/09/2019 08:04

@Tanaqui it was good fun. I am really not a runner and coupled with the hot weather meant we didn't run the whole way but we ran enough of it. It was really lovely to be doing something all together rather than it being DH & DS and me and DD being spectators as it often is!

Am feeling hungover now after our night out last night but think you must of been right about it causing temporary weight loss as I am nearly a pound down on yesterday!

It's our wedding anniversary today but given how my head currently feels it will be a dry one!

Have a good Sunday all Smile

Sigh81 · 15/09/2019 08:51

Food diary yesterday:

B: 2 slices seeded bread toast, peanut butter, small apple
L: steak, broccoli, a tablespoon bearnaise sauce. Chocolate acai berries.
S: (leftovers) apple with yoghurt and a sprinkling of muesli, chicken breast.

Drinks: water, black coffee, 2 vodka lemon and limes.

Hiccup: I ended up fainting yesterday (too hot on tube) so quickly ate a chocolate bar to get some sugar into my system.

Onesmallstep67 · 15/09/2019 09:46

@Hopefully, sending my best wishes, that sounds like a very stressful and complicated situation.
@ScoobyCan, that's an amazing loss for September so far, well done. You must be delighted all your effort is paying off
I have been bobbling around 16st 10lbs all week so technically 5 lbs down for September so far. I'm doing okay with meal content but it's the urge to treat myself or snack that I am finding difficult at the moment. I am actually coming to the end of my first 16 hours ' fast' as I haven't eaten anything at all since 6 pm last night. ( I had a catch up with my bestie but no drink involved as I went out to pick up my DD from work ) Going to try 16:8 for a few days if I can manage it and see if it impacts on my metabolism ( she said as if she knew what she was on about ! )
have a great Sunday everyone. xx

TheBatsHaveLeftTheBellTower · 15/09/2019 09:48

First week and 2lb down. Which is what I wanted.

Fingers crossed for an equally successful second week.

Well done to everyone else too!

cricketmum84 · 15/09/2019 09:48

@Hopefully ah I'm glad he came out feeling positive :) sorry you are having such a rough time. Just keep in mind that no situation is permanent and soon you will be looking back on all of this and feeling proud for getting through it.

Amazing loss for September so far @ScoobyCan!!

Another 1lb off for me so 5lbs for September so far and 5st 8lbs in total. I would LOVE to hit 6 stone loss by the end of the month!! Just over 2 weeks left so it's a possibility if I am extra especially good.

Sunday's are a funny day for me, I tend to just eat one meal for the day with maybe a couple of crackers or some fruit to keep me going. Today's is veggie sausage, root mash, broccoli and vegetable gravy, I am so looking forward to it!!

TheBatsHaveLeftTheBellTower · 15/09/2019 10:02

I'm sure most people will know but, for those low carbing, its net carbs that count.

So total carbs - fibre = net carbs. Your body doesn't absorb dietary fiber and needs it so you don't need to count it.

It means that things like avocados look quite high in carbs eg 9g/100g but are low eg 2g/100g when you deduct the fibre.

cricketmum84 · 15/09/2019 10:32

Well done on the loss @TheBatsHaveLeftTheBellTower :)

Interesting fact about net carbs - I'd never realised that. It's such an effort to low carb as a vegetarian although I do tend to shy away from bad carbs - bread, pasta etc.

OP posts:
LooseAtTheSeams · 15/09/2019 11:19

Net carbs makes total sense to me - good news on the avocado front!
Keeping my fingers crossed for Hopefully's DS!
I have run 4.4 km this morning - 2 more runs and I can start my new improve your 5K running app. Hoping for good news when I stand on the scales tomorrow...
Just veg sausages for breakfast as failed to buy anything but lunch will be salad-based with some protein and dinner is tofu stir fry, so not bad going.

ImagineRainbows · 15/09/2019 12:36

After a good first 2 weeks my period has showed up and I am now fighting the urge to eat my own body weight in chocolate. It’s weigh day tomorrow and I can’t blow it now.

FLOrenze · 15/09/2019 12:53

I have lost 5 pounds, it has taken 3 weeks but I did not have masses to lose. Another 5 pounds to go.
Things that work for me are,
Weighing myself every day. This has taught me that not all weight gain/loss is food related. Sometimes when I have been careful I have not lost, I have even gained. Yesterday I had fish and chips and cake and was surprised to see no gain. I did walk a lot yesterday.

I leave food on my plate. Yesterday I ate only half of the cake, took the batter off the fish and left half the chips. In the past I would have thought that it was a waste of money to leave food. Also I have stopped worrying about offending people who have cooked for me, by leaving some food.

The hardest for me was cutting down massively on bread. I love a good sandwich. This though, has had the biggest impact on my loss.

I eat my biggest meals early in the day. When I get peckish in the evening, I go for pure protein. Some cheese, ham, tinned salmon or nuts. I keep lots of peppers in the fridge as they are refreshing. In the past i would have added crisps, or crackers plus a biscuit or 6.

HollyTheHarrier · 15/09/2019 13:17

No loss for me this week. I definitely overate on Friday (too hard to track as I was travelling and in meetings) and possibly yesterday (just couldn’t be bothered tracking, frankly) although I did run and do a fair bit of gardening yesterday so that will have helped. Good day so far today - porridge, small protein drink after long run, soup and roll. Not sure what I will have for tea yet. Hope everyone is enjoying a sunny weekend ☀️

bluebeck · 15/09/2019 14:29

@Hopefully - ignore what STBXMIL says. I am assuming you have your own legal representation? Just listen to what they say. Can you block STBXMIL?

I have STS and am still very cross with myself for my two day calorie bender. I have been for a long walk along the beach today and actually haven't eaten anything so far today as haven't felt hungry but will have something now.

Fingers crossed the scales start to move in the other direction next week...

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 15/09/2019 15:16

Now 80kg. I actually despair.

See you end of the month with the weigh in.

cricketmum84 · 15/09/2019 15:39

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut just keep swimming my love. I've had loads of weeks where I'm constantly losing and gaining the same bloody pound and the whoosh comes eventually.

Is it worth changing up what you are doing/eating? I've seen a big difference this week after swapping from ww to mfp x

OP posts:
AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter · 15/09/2019 16:03

You're all doing so well sticking to your diets over the weekend! I've managed to as well, although it's been a struggle.

I weighed myself this morning and was 10.10, which is 2lbs off from last Tuesday. I'm not going to record it until tomorrow so hoping I weigh even less then!

Sigh81 · 15/09/2019 18:45

Food diary today:

B: 2 slices seeded bread with peanut butter, small apple
L: half a Vietnamese noodle soup with extra veg, 1 spring roll. 4 squares Ritter chocolate
S: half a Vietnamese noodle soup, small slice steak/ale pie, fruit with yoghurt.

Drinks: lots of water, some black coffees.

No snacks.

HollyTheHarrier · 15/09/2019 21:39

Continued my good day food-wise - snacked on fruit and low fat yoghurt, just one small chocolate bar as a treat (I ran 14 miles this am so could afford some treats!) and a bean/egg burrito for dinner. Under calorie goal by around 700 net of exercise. Hopefully will see this on the scales at some point soon!

AdventureTravelDreamer · 15/09/2019 23:10

It's our anniversary today and we have been out for dinner this evening. I ate what I wanted as I decided that balance is important and that sometimes you have to cut yourself some slack so food diary today is

B - 40g porridge oats, semi skim milk and half a banana

No lunch as such but a bag of salted popcorn and a pear during the day

D - Shared a baked garlic mushroom starter with DH, caprese pizza (didn't finish it) and a trifle pot at home in front of the telly for pudding.

Was feeling crap after our night out until mid afternoon so a very sedentary day! Salad already prepped for lunch tomorrow and am half considering the 6.45 spin but I'll see how I feel in the morning!!

Tanaqui · 16/09/2019 05:45

14miles @HollyTheHarrier- that's so good! Did I mention I went for a short (5k!) jog and fell flat on my face, split my lip and skinned my hand?! I need bubble wrap!

9.11.7 today, but it's a fake dip as I ate really early yesterday- but if I start missing days I miss the bad ones too!

Hope you make your spin Adventure! (Safer than running!)

cricketmum84 · 16/09/2019 07:40

Morning all! It's the start of a brand new week and time to set some seriously healthy habits in place!

I'm going to give the 10 a day challenge a go this week. 10 different types of fruit or veg every day. Should get me eating a little healthier rather than just focusing on low calorie.

Are there any other small changes like this that you have found has an effect on health and/or losses?

Plan for today is continuing 16:8. I last ate at 6pm yesterday so planning on having lunch around 1 and dinner around 7pm. It's more like an 18:6 lol.
L - carrot, cucumber and pepper sticks with yoghurt, mint and spring onion dip.
S - strawberries and natural yoghurt
D - LM shredded duck that's not duck stir fried with mixed vegetables, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, bean sprouts, mushrooms, onion and carrot.

Hope everyone has a strong and successful day!

Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!!
