Link to previous thread here: Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3652424-half-a-stone-or-3kg-off-for-august

Morning all! Welcome to the half a stone loss challenge for September. All are welcome whatever plan or method you are following. I'm mainly following ww online with some intermittent fasting thrown in for good measure!

All I ask is that we continue the uplifting positivity and support seen on previous threads! We cheerlead each other, celebrate success and support through the harder times.

We had a great month in August with lots of losses. I don't know about you lot but the longer this goes on the more it feels like a way of life for me now rather than "being on a diet"?

Stats for me are:
Starting weight: 19st 13
Loss for August: 14lbs
Loss for 2019: 5 st 3lbs
Target for September: 10lbs off

Ready for September??

❤️❤️

Does anyone else use protein shakes as an emergency filler-upper? Any recommendations? I'm wondering whether I should keep some in for those days when I'm busy and end up standing up at the kitchen counter, shovelling food down because I've gone too long without eating. It's definitely my worst food habit - feeling like it doesn't count if it's eaten standing up in the kitchen. I noticed recently that my mother does it too - barely eats a meal, but snacks standing up in the kitchen constantly.

Millie2016 · 13/09/2019 07:42

Decided to weigh in this morning as I’m out tonight and thought the alcohol might skew my result. Big mistake.
So I did have the carvery yesterday and a chocolate brownie in the evening, but I skipped lunch to compensate. Or so I thought.
The scales this morning show a gain of 0.6kg on September start weight. Which is a gain of 0.9kg in real terms because I was on a loss of 0.3kg last week.
It’s so frustrating. I know if I weigh in tomorrow morning it will be artificially lower then it should be due to alcohol to be consumed tonight but then I don’t think one meal out should result in a 0.9kg gain.
I might just weigh in again tomorrow anyway.
Plan for today: wheat biscuits for breakfast. Latte and cereal bar at lunch. Bacon rolls for dinner. Prosecco tonight.

Tanaqui · 13/09/2019 08:07

@Millie2017, don't be discouraged - weight loss is not linear and random ups and downs often happen. I find it helps to weigh every day, and when I look at the graph (which my fitbit helpfully does for me!) I can see the general trend, but there are aways weird ups and downs.
@Hopefully, I haven't done the protein shake thing (they don't sound like they taste nice and I would need to check for gluten), but after lots of you recommended them to stop the ravenous hunger when I have evenings when I can't eat till late, I am going to give it a try!

AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter · 13/09/2019 08:37

Morning everyone,

I really wanted to weight myself this morning but I forgot (and now I'm at work) Sad. I've put on a dress this morning and feel like I'm slimmer. Got to have a takeaway tonight as we've got friends over so I'll probably feel huge again tomorrow.

I think I'm going to try only drinking black tea/coffee during my fasting period to try and escalate my loss!

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/09/2019 09:14

Agree it does help to post every day! I'm fluctuating by about half a pound this week but much steadier than I used to be!
Need to be really organised next week as lunch yesterday ended up being just a portion of chips from the college canteen and dinner was mushroom goulash from M &S! Unfortunately that led to eating little dumpling things from itsu.
Getting lots of healthy salad stuff for lunch today. (The chips yesterday didn't even seem like a treat!)

Vebrithien · 13/09/2019 09:20

Morning,
Glad people like the look of the cake. It was really yummy!
It's my birthday today, so more cake to look forward to Grin
Weigh-in today puts me at 91.8kg, so 0.6kg loss this week, and 1.7kg loss this month. Almost back to pre-holiday weight!
Have a good day all

cricketmum84 · 13/09/2019 09:31

Morning all!

Happy birthday @Vebrithien !! Hope you have a fantastic day.

Stomach is pretty much back to normal today so I can hopefully eat some normal food!! Plan is:

B - water and green tea
L - veggie ramen noodles
D - treat meal for me and DS. He's really food with veggie meals so may do jackfruit chilli or lentil Dahl. Couple of g&t's and should still be well under calories for the day.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday!

Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!!

Thanks @Tanaqui. I have been keeping an eye of my weight most days which is why I keep thinking it can only be as a result of the carvery meal... 1 bad meal! Anyway I won’t let it get me down too much. I am out tonight for drinks so will weigh in again in the morning and accept whatever the scales say as my 2 week weight.

Millie2016 · 13/09/2019 12:01

And a very happy birthday @Vebrithien.

Kanga83 · 13/09/2019 13:14

I'm down 7lbs in two weeks, and very happy with that. Finally enjoying the whole 30 diet and cravings for processed sugar and Diet Coke have actually gone. Enjoying snacks such as celery with nut butter and raisins, and whole dates instead. Having to be quite inventive with meals but enjoying it.

AdventureTravelDreamer · 13/09/2019 22:27

Happy birthday @Vebrithien Smile

@Millie2017 do you think weighing in after a boozy night makes you lighter? I would of thought it was the opposite due to the calories.

On the topic of alcohol I still haven't had a drink all week and a dry Friday evening is a rarity in this house. It's our wedding anniversary on Sunday and we are out for a friends 50th tomorrow so the rest of the weekend will include wine!

Still no change on the scales, I've just decided I have to let my streak shine and am determined not to let it throw me off course. Today I am way under calories but that is mainly because I had a busy evening and by the time I could think about dinner myself I wasn't actually hungry and couldn't be bothered to cook anything so I had a bagel with butter at around 300 calories when I had at least 600 left for the day. And although maybe not great from a nutritional point of view I really enjoyed it as I have eaten virtually no bread over the last couple of weeks.

AdventureTravelDreamer · 13/09/2019 22:28

*stubborn streak

Tanaqui · 14/09/2019 06:11

Being stubborn is a great advantage when the scales get stuck - I can be a bit of a quitter! Hope you had a lovely birthday @Vebrithien.

9.13.7 this morning, very happy as had a big meal last night - but that may still take effect tomorrow! Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

AdventureTravelDreamer · 14/09/2019 07:14

The scales moved!! After being 10.6 something all week this morning I am 10st 5.2lbs. Exactly 1lb down in last Sat. Now I just need to stay in the 5s over the weekend!

The whole family are doing an inflatable 5k obstacle course this morning. Hopefully it will be fun (DH who booked it is assuring me it will be!!). I'm thinking about the calories it will burn that I can then 'spend' o our night out later Grin

Hopefully · 14/09/2019 07:32

Woohoo, weighed in at 66.5kg this morning! A loss of 1.3kg for September.

Focusing on protein yesterday, and planning everything out in advance in MFP made so much difference to how I approached my food yesterday, really helped with the temptation to binge when I did eat. Hope I can repeat the feat today and maintain that loss for tomorrow.

DS1 has his 11+ exam today. I am nervous but he seems pretty cool about it, so all my determined playing it cool so far seems to have paid off a bit. The 11+ is also one of the reasons that stbxh and I haven't told the kids yet that we're separating, so getting it out of the way feels like another huge step towards separation, which is good.

Haven't menu planned out today yet, but going for a walk while DS does his 11+ then out wherever he wants for lunch (probably pizza express or similar), so will be ordering something like a chicken salad. Then will probably have some kind of egg based meal for dinner to maintain protein levels.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 14/09/2019 07:52

I'm so pissed off, stuck to my calories for the main part this week and made sure I did some form of exercise each day and I've put on a lb. I know I've just got my period but it's my second week of this, but after a 4lb loss last week I was really hoping for at least 1lb. I really hope I can keep up the motivation and carry on.

Arrghhh I could cry Angry

Sigh81 · 14/09/2019 08:29

Well, I went on holiday and I came back and my scales have run out of battery and we cannot prise the back off to replace. So no idea what happened! I tried to not go overboard - lots of fish carpaccio, but also a fair bit of ice cream. Well, whatever, the ice cream was worth it.

Yesterday's food diary:

B: overnight oats (water) with yoghurt and walnuts. Fig.
L: Crispy pork belly with pak choi. Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut.
S: salmon sushi, 6 chocolate covered acai berries. 1 hot chocolate.

Snack: 1 fig, 2 bourbon biscuits. Drinks: black coffee and water.

AdventureTravelDreamer · 14/09/2019 08:58

@WhoKnewBeefStew it is soooo frustrating when that happens but stick with it. I kept telling myself that logically if I kept doing what I was doing there is no way that the scales can't move in the right direction even if it takes a little time for them to catch up!! It's a marathon not a sprint and at times we just need to dig in and be stubborn!!

Bambii · 14/09/2019 09:07

Good luck ladies!

cricketmum84 · 14/09/2019 09:35

Morning all! It's the weekend!!!

@WhoKnewBeefStew it's so frustrating when the scales are sticking. Just keep going and I'm sure the plateau will break.

@Hopefully I'm also trying to up protein levels using MFP. I hadn't realised just how low my protein intake was!

I'm down another 1lb this morning so 4lbs for the month so far. Hoping I can do the same again in the second half of the month. I've definitely noticed a difference since switching to MFP from WW and loosely following 16:8.

Plan for today is:

Am - water and green tea
L (around 2pm) carrot and cucumber sticks with fat free yoghurt and mint dip. (96 cals)
D (around 8pm) LM burger on wholemeal roll, sweet potato wedges. (480 cals)

If I get hungry in between then may do a sliced hard boiled egg on a couple of wholewheat crackers for about 130 calories.

Calories for the day are still very low though, I don't really know how to increase them whilst doing 16:8?

Have a lovely Saturday everyone!

Thanks for the encouragement. Going to try and dig in and not use this as an excuse to let things slip

bluebeck · 14/09/2019 10:41

Oh Dear!

I have been on a 48 hour binge and am 3lbs heavier at 11:8.

I know what caused it, and am addressing that, but feeling very cross with myself. Self sabotage/own worst enemy etc etc.

Back on 16:8 and MFP today. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

LooseAtTheSeams · 14/09/2019 10:55

Hope you had a very happy birthday verbrithien!
Don't panic Bluebeck as I'm sure it'll come off as quickly as it went on!
Had enormous healthy tofu salad yesterday, the veggie sausages, peas, mash and onion gravy for tea. On downside drank wine.
This morning I've been to yoga, had 2 cups of coffee and some walnuts and dried fruit. Soup and sourdough bread planned for lunch. Dinner will need to be filling but healthy!

CalmConfident · 14/09/2019 12:35

Just weighed in 65.5 so losing steadily and 2kg down since start of the month. Hoping to get below the magic 65 by next week which was my Sept goal.

I am doing 16:8 or sometimes 18:6 and using mfp honestly this time Grin

Next task is to start a bit more gym, and get back cycling. Fell out of routine when went on holiday in summer. Want to build my strength !

CalmConfident · 14/09/2019 12:38

Currently clock watching longing for lunch, was out late last night so started fast later than usual. I have been using an app called zero which has been really helped for the IF and saved all the mental maths needed on timings. Recommend it for the 16:8 folks!

Watching DS1 eat a full English breakfast was torture!!!
