Link to previous thread here: Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3652424-half-a-stone-or-3kg-off-for-august

Morning all! Welcome to the half a stone loss challenge for September. All are welcome whatever plan or method you are following. I'm mainly following ww online with some intermittent fasting thrown in for good measure!

All I ask is that we continue the uplifting positivity and support seen on previous threads! We cheerlead each other, celebrate success and support through the harder times.

We had a great month in August with lots of losses. I don't know about you lot but the longer this goes on the more it feels like a way of life for me now rather than "being on a diet"?

Stats for me are:
Starting weight: 19st 13
Loss for August: 14lbs
Loss for 2019: 5 st 3lbs
Target for September: 10lbs off

Ready for September??

❤️❤️

(however, I imagine that, historically, most people didn't have a fridge in WWII, when it was named).

cricketmum84 · 12/09/2019 06:42

@Onesmallstep67 I get the same pain, like a tight cramp down the outside of my calves. It's my step style that causes it, I tend to put more weight on the outside edge of my feet which then overstretches the muscle. If you go to a proper running shop or to JJB sports they make you walk on a treadmill and film your step then advise on the proper trainers to counteract it.

Well done everyone on seriously active days yesterday! 22000 steps and 3000 calories burnt is amazing @Ihatesundays! And swimming a whole mile @Millie2016!!

My stomach feels a bit more settled today, managed to eat some plain lentils and rice last night. Only a small amount but I kept it down. On the plus side I finally got my whoosh and am 19.10 this morning. There's nothing quite like a stomach bug to finally shift a plateau!! No doubt it will go back up tomorrow 😂

Plan for today is lots of water. A couple of hard boiled eggs at lunchtime asthey should be quite gentle on my stomach. Fish and peas for dinner.

Have a lovely day everyone. Keep going!!

That sounds lovely @Vebrithien I’d like to see the recipe please?

This is my first time posting here but I’ve been following for a few days. I had a bit of an upset on Saturday, trying my bridesmaids gown on and feeling like a sausage stuffed in a skin! Definitely doesn’t help that it’s pink and sleeveless but what can you do... it only looked good on the 13 year old bridesmaid who is built like a rake of course. To be honest when I left the dressmakers I was in tears as felt so crap and dreading having to wear it.

It’s certainly partly my fault as I have easily put on half a stone since I first tried it on and was a good stone above my happy weight of 9.4 or less. Last week (can’t remeber what day) I was 10.5 so that’s my starting weight.

I’ve had 7 days on plan now and am down to 9.13.8 which is a good starting position. I have five weeks and would love to get closer to 9.4 ish

To be fair the bridesmaid upset was the kick I needed as I’ve been very half hearted at trying to lose a bit for ages now, since Saturday I’ve been around 1k calories per day, have been to the gym every day and on weekdays am walking 40 minutes twice a day to work and back.

Am hoping that posting here will keep me on track after week one/ the humiliation of last Saturday starts to fade 🤣

Bare cupboard cake

Ingredients

200g caster sugar
2 tablespoons margarine or oil
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon salt
175g raisins, currants or sultanas
350ml water
250g plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

Method

Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Lightly grease one 7 or 8 inch cake tin.
In a saucepan over medium high heat combine: the sugar, margarine or oil, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground allspice, salt, raisins and water. Bring to the boil and continue to simmer on low for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 30 minutes.
Sift the flour, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda together. Add the flour mixture to the cooled raisin mixture. Stir until just combined. Tip mixture into prepared tin.
Bake at 180 C / Gas 4 for 30-40 minutes until skewer comes away clean from middle.

Vebrithien · 12/09/2019 07:13

You could certainly reduce the amount of sugar used, and play around with the the spices. This will make around 16 servings. Could easily be done as a tray bake or 2 loaves, rather than a round cake.

AdventureTravelDreamer · 12/09/2019 07:24

Glad you are feeling a little better @cricketmum84

I can understand your frustration @2018SoFarSoGreat but stick with it as there must be lots of health benefits to the changes you have made.

I am finding this week sooooo frustrating!! My weight is just not shifting and I don't know why! I've been active, Sat I did 35 mins spin followed by 30 lengths swim, Sunday I did 45 min circuit class, Monday nothing, Tues 20 length swim (it was busy so gave up after that many hence why it was only a short swim) and yesterday I did 45 spin class. I have been really good food wise, no alcohol since the weekend, yesterday I ate 1237 calories all strictly accounted for, I even weighed my apple!! And I am still heavier than I was at the weekend. I just don't know what else to do.

I have thought about taking measurements but I was planning on only doing that once a month and to be honest my trousers don't feel and different and I still can't get in to my jeans. I really don't want to buy more clothes, I want to fit the ones I have!!

Anyway rant over, sorry for the negative post, I'm glad others are having more success, it gives me hope!

Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!!
Millie2016 · 12/09/2019 07:35

Welcome @Christmastree43. You sound like you are on a mission! Good luck!
@2018SoFarSoGreat at least they were encouraging! I understand the lack of patience, I’m terrible!
@cricketmum84 it’s taken me about 4yrs to be able to do the mile!
I’m heading to the Toby carvery for dinner 🙈 it’s a special occasion and I’ll try to be sensible with portion size but I will be having a pudding.
Have a good day everyone.

Millie2016 · 12/09/2019 07:41

@AdventureTravelDreamer you could be due a whoosh?!

ScoobyCan · 12/09/2019 08:07

Hello all! Sorry to hear you've been poorly @cricketmum84; well done on all the exercise and loss this week everyone!

I've been keeping my head down as a virus rages through my home - I ended up with an awful headache yesterday and had to go to bed. It hasn't totally gone but somehow I think it might be a carb hangover? I'm not sure. It's pretty horrid despite the amount of water I'm drinking. Period too so I got it all goin' on! Work being very pushy, but I'll get there. Still got one DC off from school so attempting to work from home.... attempting.

Does anyone else get headaches from dieting? It's been so long I can't remember... I can say though that my no carb diet has meant a massive increase in energy for which I am most grateful.

LooseAtTheSeams · 12/09/2019 08:10

Cricket and Scooby hope you are both feeling better💐

Lookingforpizza · 12/09/2019 08:13

@AdventureTravelDreamer I think you'll have a whoosh sometime soon and drop very quickly, sometimes I think the more active I am, the longer it takes for weight to come off (but I could just be imagining that!)

@cricketmum84 glad you are feeling a bit better today!

Today's food:
B: Muesli with oat milk
L: Egg and halloumi salad
D: Veggie sausage and mash
Snacks: Latte, banana maybe and some snacks at book club.

It's the same meals as yesterday and they ended up being lower cal than I anticipated, plus I'll be doing a lot of walking today so hoping for a good day today! Weighed myself this morning and I'm back down to 78.2, hoping I'll be mid 77 for next week! Grin

WoollyFoolly · 12/09/2019 08:27

@AdventureTravelDreamer stick with it, it will probably suddenly drop down soon.
12s 10 here today which MFP tells me is 25lb lost in total since May. Feeling really good! Going for a weekend away this weekend though with lots of eating out so I expect to be up a bit by Monday

Ihatesundays · 12/09/2019 08:35

No loss since last Friday - disappointed!

Hopefully · 12/09/2019 08:38

Morning! Weighing in at 67.5kg (0.3kg down since 1st Sept) despite eating dinner late at my friend's last night, so I'm hoping that tomorrow's weigh in will show a more significant loss.

STBXH is being challenging again today, getting in a state about various aspects of our separation. It was instigated by me, but our marriage had been dead in the water for years, and I'm feeling really frustrated at still having to pussyfoot around his emotions a full two months after telling him I wanted to separate. At what stage is it ok to be a bit more stern and say that actually I'm living my life now and don't need to mind every single word that comes out of my mouth in case it inadvertently upsets him? I feel like screeching that if he hadn't been such a grumpy shit for the past five years, we wouldn't be here anyway, so there's no point making sad faces at me now! (I won't be saying that, obviously).

Haven't yet made a meal plan for today - running late after STBXH drama and need to get the DCs to school first, then will sit down and plan my day out a bit.

Hopefully · 12/09/2019 09:17

OK, hoping for a light food day today - going to break my fast early but also close the kitchen early so I can run this evening. So the plan is:

  • 10am turmeric latte (whoever asked, I make this using a powder and oat milk at the moment, but I used to make it from scratch with fresh turmeric and ginger and dried spices each time. Tastes much the same either way).
  • 11am french toast and stewed apples
  • 1pm houmous, loads of veg, pitta bread.
  • 4pm some kind of decent snack with the kids, maybe savoury popcorn or similar, along with some protein, then close the kitchen so I can run at 6pm.
SegregateMumBev · 12/09/2019 09:32

had a good low cal day on Monday, so I'm trying another today. Though I'm away this weekend so I'll not be too strict then.

Bovril, celery, miso soup, salad dressed with lime juice.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 12/09/2019 14:23

Afternoon.

I'm resolved to post on this thread every day from next week. September is very busy for me, as my work is school-linked, but I need to make time for this too.

I've been doing ok. I've gone from 12 st 2 to 11 st 13 since Monday, but I was 11st 11 at the beginning of August, so this is just the summer holiday gain I'm shifting.

Meals today:

B: latte, natural yoghurt with nuts, seeds & dried cranberries
Snack: apple & cheddar
Dinner: pasta puttanesca

Have a great afternoon everyone.

Christmastree43 · 12/09/2019 19:00

Thank you very much @Vebrithien it sounds lovely and old fashioned, may make my dad one at the weekend and steal a slice!

@Hopefully sounds very challenging, eyes on the prize/ end goal of moving forward with your life. Your food today sounds delicious though! Hope you enjoyed your run.

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch looking forward to seeing you on the thread next week, I am also aiming to post everyday and if I don’t you’ll know I've probably gone off course!

As for me I’ve had a good day, boiled eggs for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch, a piece of salmon and some green beans for dinner. Only snacks were milk in coffee and tea and I may have some frozen berries for pudding just now. Exercise-wise I walked to work and back (80mins) and ran 5km straight after work. First week's going well but they always do!!

lboogy · 12/09/2019 19:17

Weighed in at 80.2kg so down 1.3kg.
Blew it today though. I've eaten anything that wasn't glued down. Sigh. Tried to walk it off and did 10k steps.

I'm sure the scales will tell me off tomorrow

cricketmum84 · 12/09/2019 20:50

How has everyone's days gone?

I had a small berry salad this morning. I bought a pack of two boiled eggs for lunch (don't judge - I didn't have any eggs in athome lol) but couldn't face them as I still felt a bit queasy. Lovely DH made tea while I've been catching up on work I missed yesterday, had a lovely piece of battered fish with some mushy peas. I feel really full now though and a bit queasy again.

Hoping to be back to normal tomorrow!!

I've had 1100-1200 calories every day for 10 days excluding last Saturday and I've still only last 2lbs (currently 10.12) ! I'm finding it frustrating that I'm not loosing more but finding the actual diet easy. I just really hope I can keep it up until December and I can get down to 9 stone!

Today I've had...

L-Soup and small bread roll
S- Apple
T- beef stew ready meal and mixed veg
S- treat side crunchie and haagan daaz gelato and 3 cups of tea

HollyTheHarrier · 12/09/2019 21:18

Ok so far today but on my way home and think I will have some yoghurt and honey as comfort food after a loooong day. I’ve been static all week so hoping for a weekend whoosh. Glad you are feeling a bit better @cricketmum84

Lookingforpizza · 12/09/2019 22:34

@AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter I'm sure you'll have a big whoosh in the next few days, you will see a result soon enough!!

Very pleased with myself tonight, resisted wine at book club and only ate two cookies as I planned to. There were loads of lovely snacks lying around and I'm normally useless at not picking at food like that. Left early to curl up in bed with a book, hoping if I get to sleep soon I'll wake up early for a little run (but I am not a morning person at all so we'll see Grin)

Tanaqui · 13/09/2019 05:11

There is definitely a thing were when you up your exercise, especially weights, your muscles hold water as they recover.
@cricketmum84 glad you are a bit better and congrats on the whoosh! @Vebrithien sounds good, thank you- and fruit cake is often good with gf flour as it is moist.
10.0.0 this morning and off to spin in a minute! @MilesJuppIsMyBitch i also try to post every day and it seems to help be feel motivated /invested/accountable!

Hopefully · 13/09/2019 07:32

Morning! Down to 67.1kg this morning, so 0.8kg down for the month so far. I feel like I'm slooowwwwly getting my mojo back after a terrible start to the month - posting on here has definitely helped keep me more in tune with what I'm doing and stopped me burying my head in the sand about it, so I highly recommend it @MilesJuppIsMyBitch!

I downloaded MFP this morning. After a week or so of keeping a strict food diary I've really remembered how valuable it is to have an accurate log, so despite my dislike of calorie counting, I'm doing it for now. Trying to use it as a planning tool as much as a log, as I find it a real motivator to plan out my meals and know exactly what I have leftover - makes it much easier to resist biscuits if I know that means halving my dinner and being hungry! It's also incredibly focusing when you think you're getting, say, enough protein and then input it and realise you're getting about a third of what you should be - I always find protein my biggest challenge when I look at macros, as I hardly eat meat and most whole food veggie sources also come with a good dose of carbs built in.

I closed the kitchen at 4pm yesterday, so I'll manage my 16 hour fast easily today, but going to try to push it on as long as possible - I find one or two decent length fasts can kickstart both my fasting mentality and the scales.

With my new found resolve in mind I've packed up all my food for a day working away today:

  • 10am yoghurt, HM granola and stewed apples
  • 1pm leftover shakshuka with two eggs
  • 5pm (in the car home so I can start my fast) chicken leg, tomatoes, cucumber and satsumas
  • emergency snack of roast chickpeas also packed and accounted for in MFP

I know I'll end up having a couple of biscuits with tea where I'm working today, and the above leaves me with room to do that.
