Link to previous thread here: Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3652424-half-a-stone-or-3kg-off-for-august

Morning all! Welcome to the half a stone loss challenge for September. All are welcome whatever plan or method you are following. I'm mainly following ww online with some intermittent fasting thrown in for good measure!

All I ask is that we continue the uplifting positivity and support seen on previous threads! We cheerlead each other, celebrate success and support through the harder times.

We had a great month in August with lots of losses. I don't know about you lot but the longer this goes on the more it feels like a way of life for me now rather than "being on a diet"?

Stats for me are:
Starting weight: 19st 13
Loss for August: 14lbs
Loss for 2019: 5 st 3lbs
Target for September: 10lbs off

Ready for September??

❤️❤️

I think you are right. Even if I just have a gin and a bit of cake or something...will have to have for dinner though as otherwise I mentally right the whole day off and eat like a glutton from the moment I've strayed onwards. I recognise that this does not represent a healthy relationship with food 😕

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 10/09/2019 14:41

Afternoon: I'm still with you all & reading every day.

I think I'm doing ok, but not going to weigh until Thursday.

Today:

Brunch: bacon & bread with a latte
Then I had a fresh smoothie at a cafe (business meeting)
I'm just going to have apple & cheese at around 4pm and call it a day, I think.

WRT WW, I was a member for years, but now they've shifted away from sugar, without replacing it with fat, so basically you're left with dust and crackers to eat.

WoollyFoolly · 10/09/2019 17:45

MilesJupp that made me laugh!

I've just been shopping (rugby boots for the kids) and bought a pair of jeans in the sale - size 14! Very exciting! I didn't quite believe they were going to fit, it's been years since I fit into a size 14.

AdventureTravelDreamer · 10/09/2019 18:06

Great NSV Wooley Grin

I'm currently sat in the gym carpark trying to muster up the energy and enthusiasm to actually go in!!!

cricketmum84 · 10/09/2019 21:24

Well I had a slight deviation from the meal plan but still come in under calories for the day and with better protein and vitamin and mineral results :)

My salad had gone a bit soggy so I got a pre packaged egg sandwich instead, low fat version for 307 cals followed by 100g of pomegranate seeds. The bread weighed really heavy on my stomach though so I'm gonna need some lighter options.

DH nipped in the supermarket while he was waiting for me to finish work. Bless his heart he is rubbish with veggie food but he was stood waiting for me with a bag of lentils, vegetarian gravy and ramen noodle soups for when I need something fast. So had curried lentils with the mushroom sausages. Very tasty and filling for 305 calories!

Closing the kitchen. I’m really proud of myself today. Instead of doing a sloth impression on the sofa I got up, did a quick Zumba you tube work out until DS woke. Then I put a load of washing away, put a load on and out, deep cleaned the bathroom, prepped dinner, made DH’s lunch for tomorrow and did all the washing up. I swear I worked up a sweat cleaning the bathroom floor and shower door!
Instead of sitting on the sofa tonight I went to Asda and (shock horror) discovered they have turned the worm out old restaurant into a shiny new McDonald’s.
Took so much will power not to go in. Instead I brought a cauliflower rice and tandoori chicken box for lunch tomorrow.
Feel super proud that I managed to turn it round today as there was a very real moment in time when I was desperate to say ‘sod it’ today.

cricketmum84 · 10/09/2019 22:29

Good going @Millie2016 :) and so prepared for tomorrow already!

I really really want a biscoff biscuit but gonna finish my tea and head to bed instead!

Good work @cricketmum84 and @millie2016 and yay for fitting new jeans @WoollyFoolly

Definitely noticing that clothes are a bit looser. Oddly more than anything my knickers are too big 🤣🤣

Hopefully · 11/09/2019 05:48

Weighed in at a slightly more sensible 67.4kg this morning. Still only 0.4kg down for September so far, but I've been feeling more positive and in control since keeping a food diary. So while I guess I won't make a 3kg loss this month, I'm feeling more confident that I will at least end the month lower than I began, and that's the important thing.

Also managed to run 8.5km yesterday for the first time in a few weeks, which was nice. Doing a decent run makes getting 15k steps in a piece of cake - I was up to 19,400 yesterday. Also think I might manage a 16 hour fast today for the first time in weeks, as I closed the kitchen at 5pm yesterday, and I reckon even I can make it till 9am! I'm hoping to manage a bit longer, as I am meeting a friend for an hour at 9:30, so if I can make it till then I'll naturally go on till 10:30 or 11am.

@historysock I hope you managed to find a good treat meal for the evening!

@WoollyFoolly that's absolutely amazing! Well done. Getting into a size down is SUCH an amazing feeling.

@Millie2016 well done for resisting the MacDonalds, it's so hard when something challenges your willpower like that.

@HollyTheHarrier I am the same with too-big knickers! I think because I hate them digging in I always size up anyway, so as soon as I lost anything they basically just fell off. I had to buy new ones just going from 72kg to 68kg.

I have my staying-over-with-a-friend evening meal challenge today. I've decided to just try to save as many calories as humanly possible until the evening meal, and also to encourage friend to walk the dogs after dinner so we don't end up eating at 9pm.

Plan for today is:

  • 9-11am at some stage - turmeric latte, greek yoghurt with berries and nuts
  • 1pm salad with mozzarella, tomatoes, olives etc, and probably some fresh sourdough because it will be just baked!
  • ONLY FRUIT FOR SNACKS IN THE AFTERNOON (this is going to be the challenge, can you tell? Grin)
  • 7pm-ish - dinner, probably something calorie laden.
  • Exercise - just about to do my yoga practice, and my plank challenge (downloaded one of those 30 day challenge apps, I'm on day 4!). Also 15k steps.
Tanaqui · 11/09/2019 06:24

Yay on the new jeans Woolly and the non sloth like and willpower filled day Millie!

Hopefully, do you make your turmeric latte from scratch every day?

10.0.3 this morning, and hoping to manage a 16 hour fast (but a dirty one with milk in my tea!).

Vebrithien · 11/09/2019 06:29

Morning all!
Thought I'd mix it up a bit today, as DH is out this evening. DD can have a easy dinner, rather than eating with us, and I'll eat after she's in bed.
Have my easiest day (not that it's saying much!) at work of the fortnight, so I'll try 16:8.
First meal - lentil and veg soup with crusty bread
Dinner - Spanish omelette with broccoli and carrots.
Some point in the afternoon - slice of homemade "bare cupboard cake".
Have fun today!

WallyIndie · 11/09/2019 06:57

Thought I'd check in today, only 4 days since my first post, 68.8kg -> 67.6kg lost of 1.2kg! Did a 6km run on Saturday and then a 3km run on Monday. Haven't been that good with diet tho, finished a packet of dark chocolate digestives within two days...by myself! More than offsets the running...but I am doing September Race at your pace challenge, aiming 200miles, so doing lots of walking too. Daily goal is 18k steps so I can hit the distance!

Away on holiday today until Sunday, so will be consuming lots of food and doing lots of walking, hoping no gains when I return!

WhoKnewBeefStew · 11/09/2019 08:12

I think I may have overdone the exercise yesterday, 45 minutes HIIT and then an hour walking the dogs has seen off my knee today. I was hoping to do another 30 minutes of something today but I'm now hobbling and barely able to walk with my knee. So a rest day for me and no treats (I give myself treats on the days I exercise)

cricketmum84 · 11/09/2019 08:44

I'm so poorly today :( I was really sick last night before bed. Then been up since 5 throwing up. Even water doesn't like me.

I've been out and dropped everyone at work and school then come home to my dressing gown and cat and phoned in sick to work. Not sure how today is going to go food wise. Might try a dippy egg later if my stomach feels any better.

Onesmallstep67 · 11/09/2019 11:42

@cricketmum84, oh dear that sounds horrible, I hope things have eased a little ( lot) try to sleep if you can and just sip water until you can keep it down and the nausea subsides xx

I seem to be doing pretty well diet wise and another 1lb down , making a loss of 5lbs since we started. Reading all the posts about your daily exercise regimes makes me feel like a sloth though. I guess having been very overweight for a long time exercise was never really my thing. I must try to find something I enjoy and would feel comfortable doing. I find walking ultra boring and I get a funny pain/numbness down the side of my leg if I do it too much. Even standing in one position for too long can bring it on. My aversion to doctors has meant I haven't had it looked into but maybe I should lol
I hope everyone is having a great day. Anyone finding it a bit of an uphill struggle, be kind to yourself. It seems lots of you have demanding jobs, young children and a range of living arrangements, all of which will take up time and add to stress. xx

Ihatesundays · 11/09/2019 14:41

So weight has dropped back down to where it was last week. Had a busy day yesterday 22000 steps, 150 active minutes and 3000 calories burned.
Managed to go to Zumba and it was the last class so need to find a new one somewhere - what a pain. I remembered that I don’t really enjoy Zumba though at least. I’d prefer boxercise or similar.
Fingers crossed scales show something tomorrow.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 11/09/2019 17:12

Hope you feel better soon Cricket 🙏*
*
I am so dejected. The kick in the arse that got me working on my weight was blood tests in April. Had them repeated yesterday and they are almost exactly the same! How is it possible?

I stopped my alcohol for the most part (was having one or even two glasses of bubbly with dinner most nights), quit eating sweets and desserts, and have made every effort to make 12k steps minimum. I've lost 16 lbs. My clothes are falling off.

How the hell are the numbers not better? I'm so frustrated. They are not in the zone where medication is needed, but in the high risk. What next?

WoollyFoolly · 11/09/2019 17:12

Super busy at work at the moment so barely getting time to eat anything. Had to miss lunch because I had a medical appointment and when I stopped at the garage to get petrol instead of buying a huge snickers bar, I bought a protein shake instead to keep me going - feels like I'm much better at making good decisions!
So far have eaten about 300 cals today, looking forward to a really substantial tea.

Lookingforpizza · 11/09/2019 20:09

I hope you feel better soon @cricketmum84 Sad

Today has been a bit rough, I had a counselling session this afternoon and it was a bit emotional. I always feel really drained afterwards, so making sure to take some time to myself tonight. I even went out for a quick run after having 11days off from running!

Today's food:
Breakfast: Muesli and oat milk
Lunch: Halloumi and egg salad (nice but did too much halloumi)
Dinner: Linda McCartney sausages (first time trying them and I loved them!!) and microwave mash
Snacks: Latte and some galaxy chocolate

Ate a bit more chocolate than usual so have ended the day on 1400 calories, which I'm pleased with it feels like I got a lot out of my calories for the day.

Millie2016 · 11/09/2019 22:17

@2018SoFarSoGreat
That is frustrating. What was stone advice at the meeting?
@cricketmum84 hope you are on the mend
I went for my swim, got my mile done (64 lengths). Swimming is low impact and super good for you, for those with achey legs. I find it therapeutic to work through my day mentally while in the pool.
Got a packet of nuts for after and shared them with DH.
A good day all in all.

Millie2016 · 11/09/2019 22:19

the advice

HollyTheHarrier · 11/09/2019 23:24

Well done everyone on good days and successful exercise endeavours. I had to travel for work today which meant no time to run and on the go all day. So not a successful day in terms of calorie goals! I think I stayed 1,600 which is my maintenance level, just, so hopefully won’t have done any damage. I made good choices for meals but gave into chocolate cravings on the way home. New day tomorrow!

2018SoFarSoGreat · 12/09/2019 01:38

Millie16 she said not to be discouraged. The changes I've made will show in next year's numbers. I have no patience 😟

Well. Onwards and downwards. In inches and pounds!

Tanaqui · 12/09/2019 05:48

It sounds like you have made great changes @2018SoFarSoGreat, so I expect it just needs a bit of time for everything to "catch up". Frustrating though!

@cricketmum84 i hope you feel better today. Live yoghurt or kefir once you can keep food down might help?

@Vebrithien what is bare cupboard cake?!

I am 9.13.6 today! Hope I can stick for longer than last time! A good day for all I hope.

Vebrithien · 12/09/2019 06:37

Morning Tanaqui
"Bare cupboard cake" is a WWII ration book cake. I think it should really be called "empty fridge cake", as it is made with no fresh ingredients at all.
It's odd to make, you boil dried fruit in water and oil , with a little sugar and spices. When cooked, you mix in the flour, and bake. It tasted amazing, like a lightly spiced ginger parkin.
I can put up the complete recipe, if you like? It is also incidentally vegan, if you use the oil rather than margarine.
