Link to previous thread here: Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3652424-half-a-stone-or-3kg-off-for-august

Morning all! Welcome to the half a stone loss challenge for September. All are welcome whatever plan or method you are following. I'm mainly following ww online with some intermittent fasting thrown in for good measure!

All I ask is that we continue the uplifting positivity and support seen on previous threads! We cheerlead each other, celebrate success and support through the harder times.

We had a great month in August with lots of losses. I don't know about you lot but the longer this goes on the more it feels like a way of life for me now rather than "being on a diet"?

Stats for me are:
Starting weight: 19st 13
Loss for August: 14lbs
Loss for 2019: 5 st 3lbs
Target for September: 10lbs off

Ready for September??

❤️❤️

Hey @bluebeck - sounds like it's all going on but don't despair, 4lbs overall is good! I am aiming for 11.10 as that's a good weight for me!!

For those on the 16:8, what hours do you keep? Mine are 12noon-8pm; then the kitchen is closed. I'm finding even after just four days that when I do eat, my appetite is already decreased, so it's little and often rather than 3 x meals... is this normal?

BobbinThreadbare123 · 04/09/2019 10:42

Hello - joining in! I can't remember if I got on the Aug one or was very late to July....
Nevertheless, I am just over 3 kg down!
Start ~5/6 weeks ago at 73 kg
Now 69.5 kg and a trim size 12 at 5ft 7
Aiming for 66 kg and then I will be chuffed, although I have upped my exercise again after a period of injury so might plateau with muscle-build.
I don't eat after 6.30 pm and only break my fast at lunchtime the next day 12pm. I don't eat crap in the week but I let myself have beer and chocolate at the weekend. Seems to be working ok.

bluebeck · 04/09/2019 10:43

Thanks Scooby Yeah I have been feeling a bit down and defeated the past few days. Need to pick myself up again.

I do roughly 12 - 8. I only eat two meals, usually at 12 and then around 6.30. If I am hungry around 8 I will have a snack like a yoghurt or low cal cereal bar, but I had been getting by on about 800 calories a day!! It's amazing how quickly your body adapts, but now I am having to go through the early stages all over again. Feel hungry now but ignoring it!!

MessiahOrNaughtyBoy · 04/09/2019 10:45

Morning, may I join? A stone has crept on in the last year or so and I need to get on top it now before it runs away from me. I’m currently 65kg. Would like to get to 60.

I plan to use I.F. and exercise. Today is day 1.

I ate at 9:30am so my last meal will need to be 17:30.

ScoobyCan · 04/09/2019 10:58

@bluebeck - it's often mood which alters my eating patterns - I've been doing so well inwardly that I completely ate my whole house May-August, my OH took a video of me playing with the dog and the children in the garden this weekend (we were having a splendid time!) and it was only when I watched it back that I thought "bloody hell that's not ME!" - it creeps up on me because I have such bad body dysmorphia (self diagnosed), I just see me, I don't see fat me or thin me until it's too late and I'm either far too heavy or look like a pea on a cocktail stick. I've yo-yo'ed all my life. My 'D'M used to tell me I was large all the time - and then when I slimmed down i was "too thin", so I used to slide from pillar to post trying to please her and never finding the happy medium.

Now I'm doing this for me, and I feel energised and very grateful for "seeing" myself on the video!

If you want to exchange a food diary, I'm happy to help if that would be beneficial for you? I'm doing ketosis too, so my diet is fairly bland but I've planned a tuna niçoise tonight following @Millie2017's inspirational salad photo from yesterday, up thread! Thanks

Onesmallstep67 · 04/09/2019 11:00

well done everyone, lovely to hear so many successes as the week progresses and loving hearing about lots of new things I can try, Turmeric for one as I have been plagued with a really sore elbow for weeks.
My own weight loss journey was prompted by an issue with significantly high BP and I decided I shouldn't try to dig my heels in any longer with my avoidance of all things medical. I had seen far too much of hospitals and doctors in the previous years ( my late husband had had colon cancer and both my parents had had age related on going and significant health issues ) But I am so grateful now that I have begun this new chapter in my life.
I guess I had always also resisted losing weight because I hate the whole thin good/ fat bad perception that we have in society. Having been overweight all my life ( or feeling it even when I was a lot slimmer ) I became quite determined that I wasn't going to let my girls feel the same way, certainly not until they were old enough to make their own decisions about their bodies and image. I wanted them to feel self worth above and beyond how thin or fat they might be.
I hope what I am saying doesn't feel at odds with why some of you may be on your own weight loss journey. I think it sounds fantastic what is being achieved and I am loving the sense of support and community that is being created here. I get the feeling that I am in the company of some pretty awesome women who seem to be plate spinning lots of challenges in daily life.

Still under 17 stone this morning so definitely hoping never to see that number again on the scales.
Have a great day everyone xx

Lookingforpizza · 04/09/2019 12:00

Hello all, swanning back in again! I've been reasonably good the last 2 weeks but had a lot of events on around food, so it's all cancelled each other out. I need to lose exactly another stone and a half to be in the healthy BMI and I'd like to achieve it by Christmas. Last couple of months have been chaotic but I am finally feeling normal again and like I've got myself back which is a huge win for my mental health and should allow me to focus more on myself.

Today's food:
B: no added sugar muesli with skim milk
L: Tuna mixed with salad cream and spring onion in wholemeal pittas.
D: Chilli veggie stir fry with fine noodles
Snacks: Latte

I'm debating entering another 10k race at the weekend, so will attempt a longish run of about 8k this evening to see how I feel so that should burn off some calories!!

My starting weight today is 78.7kg - I feel like I've been on 78 forever, 2 months!!! Would like to hit 75kg by October.

I've also been thinking about going veggie, I haven't looked back through thread but if anyone is veggie or vegan here and has some good recipe resources I'd be grateful to get some ideas!

Millie2017 · 04/09/2019 12:21

Afternoon all. Got DD off to school. Gosh that feels good! Still one at home with me, but while he napped I made my stuffed mushrooms. They shrank! I ended up with too much filling. Must buy bigger mushrooms next time! Added some packet salad to make the meal feel more substantial. Also got a couple left over for tomorrow. Yellow and red peppers, spinach, a tiny bit of garlic and a grating of low fat cheese.

Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!!
cricketmum84 · 04/09/2019 13:31

Totally having a bad non-diet day.

Had a Greggs vegan roll this morning and then been to Sainsbury's and for a tomato, basil and mozzarella pasta salad. 15.6g of fat. I feel disgusting.

LookingForPizza I find the Jamie Oliver website surprisingly good for interesting vegetarian meals. Some are a bit calorific, but at least nutrition is shown for each recipe, so it’s not too hard to avoid those.

This is one of my favourites, but I do like to spice them up a bit:

www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetable-recipes/cool-mexican-bean-wraps/

Also BBC good food has a good veggie section and you can filter by kcals

HeroicAlien · 04/09/2019 13:50

Anyone else finding that the "I'm on a diet" mentality just makes them want to eat everything? Just popped to Sainsbury's to buy DS a comic, and had to really resist the "I've been good all week so I can treat myself today" thoughts!

Anyway, resist I did, and as I'm down 2lb so far, you'd think that would enough motivation to keep me going. If only! The daft thing is that I like the food I'm eating - I'm just so used to treating myself with junk food that it's hard to stop feeling like I'm depriving myself.

Lunch today was halloumi salad and then we're having smoked salmon and feta frittata for tea. Probably slightly higher on calories than I would like (aiming for 800 a day for the first two weeks and this will be more like 900) but low carb so hopefully that will compensate.

Crazzzycat · 04/09/2019 13:51

@cricketmum84 I tried my first vegan sausage roll a few weeks ago after seeing your endorsement. They’re good...and I don’t even like sausage rolls 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I totally get it!

Crazzzycat · 04/09/2019 14:59

HeroicAllien I definitely recognise those feelings!

What’s worked for me is 1) not ruling out any foods and 2) using a free app called Chronometer. It’s a bit like MyFitnessPal, but as well as calories, fat etc, it gives you a detailed breakdown of vitamins and minerals for lots of foods.

It’s totally changed the way I feel about food and the decisions I make, mainly because I have become a bit obsessed with hitting as many nutritional targets as I can each day 🙈 But at least that’s had the positive effect that 9 times out of 10, I’ll now go for more nutritious options.

Hopefully · 04/09/2019 16:34

I think I'm going to need to start calorie counting. I've been avoiding it as it's such a bloody performance, but I'm definitely a bit in denial about calories at the moment. And definitely in denial about getting enough protein, fibre etc without overdoing the sugar. I'm going to give it another couple of days then decide.

Feeling really full, had eggs and loads of roast veg for lunch, plus a couple of squares of dark chocolate (and some of the leftover apple crumble from the DCs' pudding, whoops). Not sure the calories were great - I had mayo and the vegetables were roasted in loads of oil - but it felt like a solid healthy choice, so even if I don't weigh less in the morning at least I'll have fuelled my body well for tomorrow's run.

Up to 12,000 steps for today so far, going to try to work in an evening walk tonight.

WoollyFoolly · 04/09/2019 16:44

Bizarre day for me, manic day at work so no time for lunch. After a while I realised I wasn't that hungry anyway so now have inadvertently been fasting since 7pm last night. Just going to make some tea now.

HollyTheHarrier · 04/09/2019 17:19

@cricketmum84 you are so good at staying on track, one day off plan won’t hurt.

I survived my fast, medical appt now done and home. Just had a banana 👌 trying to avoid totally going mad now! Annoyingly my weight is still up - I don’t get it! Really hoping for a good whoosh before the end of the week.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 04/09/2019 17:30

Afternoon! Thanks for the welcome cricket :) I'm really I inspired by your huge weight loss. How's your son doing?

Today I've had:

B: yoghurt, nuts & seeds plus a latte
L: sticky chicken, bread & butter, salad & raspberries.

If I'm hungry in a bit I'll have some warm milk with honey, cinnamon & ginger. (Got a bit of a cold: sniff).

Lookingforpizza · 04/09/2019 17:42

Ah feck all motivation I had earlier has been thoroughly sapped. Not sure why. Currently in PJs with a cup of tea and a doughnut Sad does anyone else struggle with fluctuations in their motivation throughout the course of the day?

Lookingforpizza · 04/09/2019 17:57

And thank you @Crazzzycat - I've been looking at good food, but haven't looked at any Jamie Oliver. I must spend half my time looking at recipes online (and never cooking them Grin)

Ihatesundays · 04/09/2019 17:58

Ate 2 custard cremes. Need some better snacks in!

My BMI suggests I need to be 10kg lighter. That’s 22ibs. I’ve lost 15 but seems an awful lot!

Sigh81 · 04/09/2019 18:09

Some great progress on here (others, not me so much).

Checking in with food diary today

B: overnight oats (water) with yoghurt and blackberries
L: duck with grilled pak choi, half a glass of wine, a third of an Eton mess (business lunch with industry contact)
D: roasted veg, lentil dhal, leftover brown rice. 2 squares dark chocolate.

Snacks: 2 more squares dark chocolate
Drinks: water (plus half glass white wine).

Have been nervous about putting my weight on here as am a healthy BMI but wouldn’t mind shifting these extra kilos that am thinking of as my “bereavement weight” so that my clothes fit me better again. However, I think that putting it on here will give me extra motivation and something to publicly measure.

Starting weight: 58.7kg
Ultimate goal weight: 55kg
Goal by end of this month: 57kg

cricketmum84 · 04/09/2019 18:39

Just caught Ivycat eating spring onion. She is actually better at dieting than me.

Total fail today. Tea is these nut free vegan satay Kiev's I found with salad. Just checked and they are 14 points!!! FMAL. May as well go all out and have some bloody chocolate 😂

Weirdly cricket I was looking up calorie counts a few weeks back for a chain restaurant menu veg and vegan options and the vegan options were way higher than veg options. No idea why, there must be a mystery high-cal vegan ingredient!

ScoobyCan · 04/09/2019 19:25

Inspired by thread have prepared this tonight..

Yum! Probably prepared enough for another three days by which time I'll be bored of the dish and will need something more.

Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!!
cricketmum84 · 04/09/2019 19:40

That looks gorgeous@ScoobyCan !! Can you make me one please??
