Link to previous month here: Half a stone (or 3kg) for July http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3624800-half-a-stone-or-3kg-for-july

Hello everyone! Old timers, newbies, lurkers and anyone I've missed and welcome to the Half a stone challenge for August!

Everyone welcome regardless of what diet or exercise plan you are following.

All I ask is positivity and support for all of us (and someone to follow me around and steer me away from the Greggs vegan rolls please).

I'm currently on holiday until Saturday so will weigh in then and let you all know the damage as my starting weight for August.

Much love x

Same sodding weight again!!!!

Ok I really need to ask some non-diet advice.

My 24 year old DS is staying with my parents over the summer holidays as I didn't want him in the house alone all day. He text me late last night saying "the secrets out, I'm trans. Please can you call me x in future".

Apart from "ok" what on Earth do I say? What do I do? Tbh we've kinda known for a little while but he's always gone into meltdown when we have tried to talk to him about it so it's a huge step for him to just come out and say it and it must have been a scary thing for him to do. We've found girls underwear and a few bits of girls clothing in his room before, he stole one of my sisters bras, all his friends are girls, he came out as gay a couple of years ago although now days he is pansexual.

I'll probably post in one of the specific areas later today but was wondering if any of you lovely ones had any advice?

Exciting - seem to be more or less back at lowest weight so far - hopefully the salad lunches are working!

LooseAtTheSeams · 23/08/2019 07:23

Cricket at the moment I think all you can do by text is offer reassurances of love and support. It must have been a big deal to send that message. I'm sure you'll get lots of advice on the other boards - I'll see if I can find any useful links for advice at work (college) to post.

AdventureTravelDreamer · 23/08/2019 10:15

@cricketmum84 I would echo what @LooseAtTheSeams said and just try and make sure he knows you love and support him whatever may be.

And if it makes you feel any better after 3 days of STS today I was 1.6lbs heavier!!!

God why is this losing weight lark so bloody difficult and frustrating!!

cricketmum84 · 23/08/2019 10:26

This is what I've sent back...

Ok, if you are happy then we are happy! We love you whether you are a girl, a boy or a centipede. Although centipedes do have an awful lot of legs..... will be over for you about half 3 so can talk more then. Is this why you’ve been so angry? Xx

@cricketmum84 that could really help to explain some of the issues you've been having with DS.

I'd get some expert advice but take cues from DS re what s/he wants to do.

If it makes you feel any better I wouldn't have a clue what to do ! Your response looks like a good start though.

Unconditional love is key. Good luck with it all x

On the weight front I've put on.-62.9. But have had a v stressful week with gcse results and a big work presentation. GCSEs now ok and successful presentation. Will reward myself with wine tonight and then knuckle down. I promise Grin

Hello everyone, another one re-joining the thread having been MIA. DH has had some health issues and I’ve been taking care of DC pretty much solo, while supporting him too. He’s back at work this week and I’ve had a chance to get back on top of things.
I’ve skimmed back over the thread. @cricketmum84 I love the sunflower outfit. Your before and after shots are amazing! Agree your MiL could not have failed to notice, she’s just too stubborn/mean/jealous to acknowledge it.
I’ll be back to meal planning tomorrow. I know I’ve put on weight in the past couple of weeks as my jeans feel tighter, amongst other signs. I just haven’t been able to get out of the house while DH has been so poorly. Will bite the bullet and weigh in tomorrow. And planning to really go for it exercise wise in September.
I’ve got one week of August left so I’m going to put my positive hat on and go for it.

Vebrithien · 24/08/2019 02:08

Looks like a good answer cricket

I'm up now, downing coffee to prepare for the drive to the airport (DH is NOT a morning person!). Flight is at 6.

My final, pre-holiday weigh in is 91kg exactly. 20 kg lost since April. Grin

Looking forward to a lunchtime Spanish beer...!

Tanaqui · 24/08/2019 06:41

Have a wonderful time Vebrithien.

Cricket, that sounds so hard- there is another poster who has gone through similar, possibly the thread is in feminism. I agree with the unconditional love, and hope s/he can get some counselling - I think thr whole medication route is very complex with many side effect. Very best wishes to you.

10st1.2 today! Yay! (And not deserved!). Determined to KOKO today now!

Millie2017 · 24/08/2019 08:42

I’ve weighed in and I am 0.6kg up on my August starting weight. I’m ok with that, as although it means I’ve put back on the 1.3kg I lost in the first couple of weeks, I don’t feel like I can’t reverse it IYSWIM.
New target for this week is to lose that 0.6kg bringing me back to my August start. Anything else will be a bonus.
Plan for today. Lots of water.
B. Wheat biscuits and fruit
L. Beef and salad sandwiches
D. Smoked Salmon and vegetables
I will be having a few social G&Ts tonight but won’t go crazy.
Have a good day everyone.
@Vebrithien 20kg is amazing, have a lovely holiday!

WoollyFoolly · 24/08/2019 10:00

FINALLY! Broke through the plateau and have got to 13st dead. Still time to break into the 12s by the end of August I hope.

BraveGoldie · 24/08/2019 11:02

Yippee! Good job on the 13st breakthrough - I bet you can get below by the end of the month if you keep up the momentum!

I finally got home and weighed myself after my travels. 170lbs.... so 1 up. Bit disappointed - thought I had been eating pretty healthily.... however strangely I am feeling lighter. I have s pretty crap scale and I sometimes seem to drop weight in 'chunks'.... so I am just going to try keep going and hope the results will come through....

Good luck for the weekend everyone!

sheshootssheimplores · 24/08/2019 11:09

Fast day today so I’ll weigh tomorrow. I was 11 stone 3 yesterday so I’ve lost over a stone now. Another stone to go!

cricket I think it’s a difficult time at the moment with trans being promoted so strongly to teenagers. All you can do is love them unconditionally and support them. I probably wouldn’t want to be supporting anything that I thought could damage their health, but otherwise I’d go with it. I hope they will cut you some slack on the pronouns and new name thing. It will be bloody difficult to get that right immediately after 14 years of saying something totally different umpteen times a day!!

cricketmum84 · 24/08/2019 11:31

Yayyyy I'm 1lb down!! The scars have moved at last!

Fully expecting to gain it back by tomorrow morning as I'm taking DS to my sisters for the day for cocktails (1 beer allowed for him) and then out for amazing tapas this evening!

I'll have him to myself for a little bit and will try have a chat with him. I know he has had some female friends buying a few girly bits for him that he wanted because he felt too embarrassed to go in the shops. Was thinking about offering him some money to order some bits online?

Fab news @WoollyFoolly. That's such an achievement!

Have a lovely Saturday everyone and enjoy the sunshine!!!

Ihatesundays · 24/08/2019 11:49

Still no change, I’ve just eaten a big croissant and I have a bad knee.
Oh and I am having pizza tonight! Give up!

sheshootssheimplores · 24/08/2019 12:14

I’ve found that in order to lose weight my stomach has to have times in the day when it’s moaning at me. I know lots of people advocate diets where you’re never hungry, but I’m not convinced. The only time Ive successfully lost weight is when ive spent time in the day being actively hungry.

bluebeck · 24/08/2019 12:55

Well done you Losers!!!

cricket that must be so tough but it sounds like you are managing brilliantly.

I am still STS. Very pissed off as have been consuming around 800 - 1000 calories on 16:8 and getting 10,000 steps in.

HOWEVER, my shorts are feeling very loose and baggy so maybe it will show soon.

Does anyone else lose weight from all the "wrong" places? Angry

I have noticed my bum is smaller when really it's the front of me that's a total disaster zone. I want to lose weight from my GG cup chest, and my tummy and, erm, upper tummy. Do we have a name for that? The Dome of Doom???!!!

Have a lovely BH weekend. I might go for a walk on the beach and think positive weight loss thoughts...

Tanaqui · 24/08/2019 17:40

Lol, I have a dome of doom! But I just walked 30,000 steps so it had better bugger off!

@sheshootssheimplores I agree, I only lose weight when I am actually hungry at times.

LooseAtTheSeams · 24/08/2019 19:13

Cricket hope things are going ok with DS. Your text sounded good to me!
Well, must have got some positive vibes from this thread because I've also managed to break through the plateau and hit the new low of 69.8 kg. Expecting a bit of yo-yo weight changes but the long-term trend is good!

WoollyFoolly · 24/08/2019 20:42

Ha! A dome of doom here too! 🤣 Mine is deflating though, I used to look a good 6 months pregnant a few months ago.

I agree with the hunger thing. I have learnt that being hungry is ok. In fact it's how you should feel before a meal. On the whole though with doing 16:8 I'm not insanely hungry and when I do feel hungry in the morning I know it's for a short time and I generally feel full and satisfied throughout the rest of the day. I have really found it much easier to stick to than any other diet.

LooseAtTheSeams · 24/08/2019 23:35

Oh, and I also put most of my weight on my stomach! So unfair.

Tanaqui · 25/08/2019 06:44

10.0.4 this morning so very happy- i know it's probably dehydration from my long walk yesterday, but still encouraging! Must expect to yoyo, as Loose nicely put it. Hope you all have a lovely day today.
