Welcome all to half a stone off for July!

As in the June thread I promise to inject some enthusiasm into every day (and try to stay away from Greggs) We saw some amazing losses in June so let's see if we can beat June's total!!

All welcome whether you are fasting, 5:2 12:8, ww, slimming world etc etc.

All I ask for is positivity and for us all to support each other.

Much love and looking forward to Day 1!!!

How are you all doing it? I have experienced extreme stress and eaten my overweight body by another 5 pounds on top of the half stone I needed to lose. I have done my best to ditch the rubbish eating but still attached to a glass of wine a day. Would so like some help plus terrible sleep problems which is long standing but this isn’t helping. I will be 78 next Thursday and need to lose weight for health reasons.

WantLifeToBeBetter · 07/07/2019 10:26

Hi @HappydaysArehere

I'm going with a "self care"approach and trying to stick with three nutritious healthy meals a day and only snack on fruit and veg if I really need to. Drinking lots of water and reducing sugar. I'm also struggling a bit with the alcohol due to stress and general misery (recent miscarriage, ill partner, ill mum..).

I think one glass of wine a day is OK (if it really is only one glass, not half a bottle! - speaking from my own experience here!) or you could try cutting down to 3 or 4 days a week just to prove to yourself that you can cope without it.

Is there any exercise that you enjoy? I find that helps with the stress also and makes you feel good so you don't want to overeat.

WantLifeToBeBetter · 07/07/2019 10:29

And tiredness is a bitch when you're trying to curb your eating - unfortunately I don't have much advice re the sleep problems but you have my sympathy Flowers

HearMeSnore · 07/07/2019 11:26

Alcohol has definitely been a major contributor to me piling on weight. I was drinking what I called "a glass a day", but conveniently ignored the fact that our wine glasses are enormous. There would only be about 100ml left in a bottle by the time we'd filled two of them. (And then I'd usually finish that later because it wasn't worth keeping, and I never counted it because it was "only a dribble".)

For July I've set myself a goal of no alcohol at home. As we rarely go out it is caning my intake. I had one large glass at the pub on Friday and that was it last week. I'll weigh-in tomorrow to see if it's done anything for my weight but I can already say it's had a BIG effect on my sleep. I normally wake up two or three times a night but the last four nights I slept like the dead. In the morning I actually felt rested, which has rarely happened since before DD was born.

Millie2018 · 07/07/2019 11:34

So I’m 1.7kg off this week. Really pleased with that. Another buffet today for lunch but feeling strong after yesterday.
Will try and get out for a walk if the rain stops. Will be spending a lot of time in the car again.
@3dogs2cats happy bday for yesterday!
@cricketmum84 hope Ivy cat comes home soon
For those with no loss, those weeks suck! Don’t let it demotivate you. Usually a big loss will follow if you don’t let it throw you off course.
Have a good one today all.

OhTheRoses · 07/07/2019 12:13

Phew back to pre holiday weight of 12.10-3/8.

HappydaysArehere · 07/07/2019 13:55

Hello there @WantLifeToBeBetter
Thank you so much for your kind replies. I am so sorry about your miscarriage and your mum and partner. You have certainly been through a lot and I do hope things will improve soon. Thank you for your advice. I eccentrically have taken to pouring my wine into a small glass (about 60ml as I thought I may not really need a whole glass!!! ) However, usually I have two or three of these. A bottle of white usually lasts me 3 or 4 days. I must cut it down. I have abandoned the crisps and biscuits but still have the fruit which is so good at this time of the year. I regularly make as healthy dessert as poss by using ground almond, eggs and only two dessert spoons of sugar. I put this on top of apricots etc or rhubarb sweetened only with strawberries. I shake flaked almonds over the top and bake.If no fresh fruit I use frozen cherries heated up and bake the almond mixture in the oven so I can pour the hot cherries over the hot bake so it can soak through. I expect this is giving me calories I could do without. However, without it I would be more likely to attack the biscuits. We eat a variety of fish, salmon, kippers, mackerel and white fish chicken and liver and bacon about every three weeks! Because I take tablets in the morning I have a large bowl of whole rolled oats and O% Greek yoghurt but if at home don’t eat lunch as we have dinner about 4 to 5. The danger time is later. Since my worries started however I began buying pizzas, crisps etc and up went the weight. Last night I was still awake until 3 am and had succumbed to brandy and dry biscuits to get to sleep so all bad news for the weight. Thank you again. I will endeavour to improve things and so hope life will improve for you.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 07/07/2019 20:36

Just had a roast, and feeling ready for the second July Monday.

Have a nice Sunday evening everyone.

PeriComoToes · 07/07/2019 23:45

It's been a good week for me. Surprised to see that I've lost 2.8lbs this week after my mini panic on Wednesday when I'd only lost 0.8.

I stuck to my plan of staying away from sugar (excluding a little fruit), processed food and alcohol, keeping my carbs on the lower side (average 50g a day) and using MFP to keep an eye on calories.

Have been for 3 short walks at a faster pace and one long one at a slower pace.

Plan for next week is the same as this and to add in some exercises using hand weights.

Good luck everyone for week 2.

WantLifeToBeBetter · 08/07/2019 06:13

Nice one PeriComoToes!

I had a decent day yesterday:
B - 1 slice rye bread and peanut butter, banana
L - Smoked mackerel salad with grilled artichokes and a slice rye bread
D - half a 12" veggie pizza, steamed broccoli, green beans and asparagus, apple
Sadly no comedy night so stayed off the booze and managed a 12.5k run.

Thank you @HappydaysArehere, and do let us know how you get on. Re the late night snacking I find it really useful to post my daily food here at about 8pm when I have "finished" - that way I have the added disincentive to eating more that it would be almost dishonest!

Have a good day everyone.

DeadButDelicious · 08/07/2019 07:01

Morning all! Sorry I've been MIA this last week! The toddler had decided sleep is for weak and she absolutely would not have her pop up black out thing up in her window and would only consider sleep at 10pm and then wake up at 5. Grim. So after a room rejig (shifting the cot so she can't reach the window and grab the blind, we seem to have performed a full toddler reset and she went to sleep at 7pm last night. It probably won't last.

Right then let's get down to business!

Weight at end of June: 123.2kg

1/07/2019: 122.5kg

8/07/2019: 120.6kg

Loss so far in July: 2.6kg

Weight at beginning of 2019: 142.9kg
Total loss so far: 22.3kg (3.512stones/49.17)

That can't be right can it? That's too big a loss. I moved the scales to the other side of the bedroom, Calibrated them and weighed again and it was the same, then moved them back to their original spot, calibrated and weighed again and it definitely came up 120.6kg. I'm expecting that to have gone up a touch next week because it just seems too much. But I'll take it this week! The only thing I can think of is I've been knitting/crocheting like a fiend this week making a present for a friend and I've not been nibbling so much of an evening, maybe this is a sign that what I need is a hobby! . My cals haven't exactly been low though (averaging about 1600 a day ish) so I really don't know. I think I may just allow myself to enjoy it and hope that next week I can break out of the bastard 20's and into the teens!

How's Ivy getting on @cricketmum84 ?

BrillyPribble · 08/07/2019 07:23

Well done DeadButDelicious! It's bizarre how it doesn't really seem to follow when you think you've had a good week or not.

I've finally today broken through the 13st 9 which I've been on for over a week. Today weighed in at 13st 8.5 🙄 still, it's a step in the right direction at least.

SwimmerGirl40 · 08/07/2019 07:25

Morning everyone. I’m down from 75.2 to 73.8. Just need to keep it up. I’m great for the first 2 weeks but then treats start sneaking in again. Hoping that you lovely ladies can keep me on the straight and narrow.

Howlongtillbedtime · 08/07/2019 07:33

Good morning everyone.

Another Monday, I find it so much easier Monday-Friday to stay on track.
Plan for today is
Sweet potato chilli for lunch
Jacket potato with tuna and lots of salad for dinner.
Sunbites and fruit for a snack
Hoping to make the gym after work.

I am trying to get back into running but it's a bit of a painful slog just now.

I hope ivy cat is home today cricketmum

Fluffiest · 08/07/2019 07:49

Morning. I gave in to temptation completely yesterday drank coke and ate a huge slice of peanut butter and chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice-cream. Oh and a packet of wotsits at 9pm.

Somehow managed to maintain weight, but I want to get back on track today. I also find Monday to Friday easier than the weekend. I'm off work this week so more opportunity to get up and move around.

Happy Monday all!

OhTheRoses · 08/07/2019 07:58

Jolly well done DeadButDelicious
WW tonight - so hoping a loss will register. Haven't lost anything since 28th June but will be thrilled if I am 1lb down tonight having had a holiday. If so I will bet my 1st award.

Happy Week everyone. Good wishes for IvyCat.

lightlypoached · 08/07/2019 08:02

@DeadButDelicious

I'm at 61.1 / 28% fat . so no weight loss but lower fat. I'll take that.

16:8 fast day today so no food until midday and aiming for 800 .
calories. have yoga and dancing today as well as work so will be fairly active.

had a very active day yesterday - 10k steps at Hampton Court flower show then 3 hours of gardening. huge chicken salad with roasty spuds, wine and then a tunnocks caramel wafer Grin. 1600 cals in all.

I agree that it seems easier during the week. avoiding snacks is still the key for me to stop it creeping on again.

Pigletpoglet · 08/07/2019 08:12

Please can I join late? I did start eating better on 1st July! I am 2.5 kg down so far, but I am low carb, so that will be mostly water, and at least 1kg will go back on if I eat a piece of bread! Tomorrow will be a full week with no sugar, and no 90% chocolate, which is pretty much a record. Getting easier now...

HearMeSnore · 08/07/2019 08:18

Well, the scales are telling me I've somehow dropped 5lb this week but I don't believe that for a second. I had a brief bout of the trots yesterday so some of it is probably down to dehydration.

When I checked on Friday I'd lost 2lb so I suspect genuine loss will be more in the region of 2.5-3lb, which I'm more than happy with.

Now I'll probably "gain" weight this week due to fluid replacement.

Millie2018 · 08/07/2019 08:19

Morning all. I love a Monday. Fresh start and all that! Yesterday was a bbq and not a buffet. I had 2 burgers in buns. Had loads of salad with it. Had a light dinner of small salad and then finished the week off with a caramel shortbread biscuit. It was delicious.
Back on it today. I have the wedding to go to this weekend and that dress needs to look good!
Plan today:
B. Wheat biscuits and fruit
L. Egg salad
D. Jacket potato and baked beans
Snacks. Fruit.
Exercise: walking if I can manage it. I might be too busy today.
Well done on the losses everyone. Have a good day.

Wellthatwastricky · 08/07/2019 08:31

Good morning all

It's been a funny week, by Friday scales claimed I'd lost 4lbs! Was thrilled, but a weekend with the inlaws visiting and a dinner party (and a lot of booze) on Saturday has done quite a bit of damage and I've regained 2lb this morning. I find it so hard to not mess up at the weekend! Did have a cooked breakfast yesterday though, at a farm shop using their own meat and it was outstanding (and just what I needed after alcohol and only three hours sleep 😬).

Ups: lovely compliments from friends at the weekend about my loss (first time anyone really noticed)
Downs: MIL sent some pics she took over the weekend of me with the children and I just look so much fatter than I hoped I would by now. Not a nice feeling.

I too love a Monday! After a lax weekend, really looking forward to being on it. Today

Lunch: egg and salad
Dinner: African peanut curry and lots of greens
Snack: an orange and possibly low cal ice cream

DeadButDelicious · 08/07/2019 08:33

The weekend is definitely harder than the week. Mostly because we end up on days out and eating at cafe's etc. I did buckle down and avoid my usual pitfalls this weekend though.

I've got some projects planned for this week so let's see if busy hands make for less snacking!

cricketmum84 · 08/07/2019 09:03

Some amazing losses! Well done guys!!!!

I flipping hate Monday's! They fill me with dread. I really need to start looking at Monday in a more positive way.

Plan for today is:
B - banana
L - small wholemeal roll with light cream cheese and rocket
D - leftover quorn fajita mix from yesterday with baked sweet potato and salad
NO WINE!

More blood tests due at some point today for Ivy cat. She's been there 9 days now and I miss her so much. Short 20 minute visits are not good enough!!! She looked so skinny yesterday too. Her diet is doing better than mine although I probably wouldn't recommend the kidney failure diet to anyone.

Couple of lovely pics from yesterday for anyone who is interested!

Well done all the losers some great loses.
My scales need a new battery I think or else they are gone and they are only new so I hope its just a battery that's needed. So I still don't know if I'm down but I hope I am.

Busy weekend of parties for us and alot of junk consumed. It will be good to get back to the diet today.

Have a good day everyone
