Half a stone off in March

SingaporeSlinky · 01/03/2019 09:03

Carrying on from the February thread and new joiners welcome, fresh slate for March!

I’ve weighed in today at 10st 1lb so I’m determined to at the very least get down to 9-something this month! Ideally the half stone by the end of March when I go on holiday. Who’s in?

I've struggled this weekend, kids parties are a nightmare! My meals haven't been too bad but I haven't had enough water and I've slipped up with cake.
Clean slate tomorrow.
I'm on a pretty tight food budget til Friday so will be more vegetarian food and not so much fruit. If anyone has any favourite budget meals I'd love to hear them! My cupboards are fairly well stocked but fresh stuff is a bit sad so I'm aiming for aldi/lidl super 6.

ZsaZsaMc · 10/03/2019 18:09

fox I like a dal if you have dried and tinned lentils which is filling and not unhealthy. Or a bean chilli depending what tins you have in the cupboard!

Has anyone got any lunch inspo? Last week I either had eggs or grilled chicken and I’m already a bit bored of it and the week hasn’t started!

I’m lucky as not at work at that moment so not limited to packed lunches

TickVG · 10/03/2019 19:20

Whatthefox I make this a lot for lunch at moment and find it generally uses cupboard stuff I already have and is quick to make. www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/mexican-bean-soup-guacamole . I obvs don't make the guacamole and serve with fat free yoghurt. A serving is about a third of the recipe and I calculate at less than 200cal incl yoghurt. ZsaZsa Other lunches I have are usually soups (Covent gdn mushroom is great for taste vs calories balance!) and I'm getting quite into those sandwich thins which tend to be around 100 cal and you can fill with mozzarella, tomato, or toast and have with tinned mackerel and they are quite tasty!

I went fairly significantly over my calories with a takeaway yesterday and am pushing at the limit today as we had people round and I was tempted into pudding. But I'm trying to stay focused and chilled because I don't want to lapse into old habits where I fall off the wagon. Aiming for clean living this week!

VivaFrida · 10/03/2019 20:17

ZsaZsaMc for lunch I love home made hummus (1/2 tin of chickpeas, 1/2 clove of garlic, a small splash of olive oil, lemon juice and fresh coriander - a spoonful of 0% Greek yogurt); I eat it on a bed of steamed (in the microwave) baby spinach and slow roast tomatoes.

Or a 'Greek style' salad with fresh yellow and orange peppers, tuna olives and cherry tomatoes and baby gem lettuce.

onemorerose I weigh everything except fruit and vegetables because I always tend to underestimate. I have an electronic scale I bought from Argos, something like this: www.argos.co.uk/product/6169835 - I love it and it's very reliable and measures up to grams so very detailed.

Ablemaybel regarding Alexa, can you use it to exercise? I have the basic dot one with Amazon music, I'd be interested to hear what you can do with it!

whatthefoxsaid totally agree, kids' parties (but also parties in general) are so difficult eating wise. I am particularly wary of buffets as they seem to trigger the compulsive in me and always overeat at them, probably also to give myself something to do.

whatthefoxsaid · 10/03/2019 20:17

Thanks for the suggestions! The soup sounds right up my street and I think I have everything I'd need- I'm sure I can find subs if not exact! Also have a pepper that needs using up.
I do have a tin of lentils but I've never actually made a daal. I'll look up some recipes and have a bash I think.
Need to double check my freezer then see exactly what I can get for £18.31!
Gone to bed early feeling sick and a bit guilty at the cake I've eaten!

shakeapoo · 10/03/2019 21:08

How has everyone's weekend been? I've gone off track - not disastrously but still annoying 😕. I want to do a full week of 1000kcal/day next week but not sure if it's too ambitious!

SingaporeSlinky · 10/03/2019 21:18

I had scrambled eggs today and a lovely roast beef dinner, but I went up to my calorie limit (possibly slightly over) by having some kids party brownies. They were delish though!

shakeapoo · 10/03/2019 21:30

That sounds like lovely satisfying food! I haven't eaten anything that great, just snacking has pushed me over

Ablemaybel · 10/03/2019 23:33

VivaFrida I also have the Amazon Dot. Just go to the app and choose a workout that's good for you.
I like the high impact workout. You start at 15 minutes and when you feel ready you move to the next level. I think there are 10 levels. It's really good, and the guy works out in real time with you.

GreyGardens88 · 10/03/2019 23:37

I'm getting terrible wind lately from all the vegetables I'm eating, I sometimes wake myself up in the middle of the night with the sound of my farts. It's more embarrassing when DP is in bed with me Sad

pepguardi · 11/03/2019 06:05

It's the weekends that ruin me!

I'm so strict with myself during the week then I undo all my hard work by being a pig on the weekend :(

cricketmum84 · 11/03/2019 08:52

I'm going for a stone off in March. 3.5lbs down already and I'm averaging 3-4lbs per week. Will add in an extra gym session a week and one extra run and see if I can kick its arse!!

Good luck everyone and huge well done for all the losses so far!

VivaFrida · 11/03/2019 09:40

Ablemaybel thank you for this Smile. Thanks to you I have now discovered that one can use Alexa for weight loss - awesome.

pepguardi why are weekends such a struggle for you? Is it because of social engagements? Or because you associate rewards 'me time' with food?

For me, another hour of exercise before work this morning (64 mins on fake bike - 2 hill climbs programmes, about 20km) - then healthy breakfast and now ready to ZAP some work!

Weekend was good, I was 2 points out on Saturday because of stupid nuts, but then 1 point down yesterday, and a good amount of exercise down so all good.

Good vibes and encouragement to all: we totally got this!

999caffeineplease · 11/03/2019 09:55

Oh I’ll join if that’s ok! I have about 2 stone to lose until I’m in the ‘healthy’ bmi- currently .5 away from obese Blush

I’m just trying to get a bit more active day to day and logging my food via mfp, then I’ll get a proper idea of what my plan is for going forward.
Today for breakfast I had a small bowl of porridge w peanut butter, and 100g of Greek yoghurt with fresh mango (370cals)
And for my lunch I’ll have some kind of soup or an egg white omelette for protein. Luckily there’s no bread or biscuits in and I’m busy writing my dissertation so no time to nip out and sabotage!

TheInvestigator · 11/03/2019 11:11

I've been an utter failure the last few days. But I used to be 7 and a half stone so I know I can eat healthily! It's just trying to change back to normal eating rather than convenient food with lots of pasta and rice etc.

But I'm putting the failings behind. It's Monday, and I've meal planned for the week and done the shop. Got everything the kids need for lunches and snacks so I don't need to set foot in a supermarket. I'm making it as hard as possible to eat badly!

So good to see other people joining the threads; it feels better knowing I'm not the only one trying (and slipping up!).

Today for breakfast was a vanilla cappuccino (I can't give up the vanilla syrup, but I budget for it in my calories). I don't like eating before 12 so the coffee is enough for me.
Lunch is going to be spiralised broccoli stalk and broccoli florets cooked in garlic and chilli. So basically a whole broccoli! But it is really tasty. And some cashew nuts thrown in.
Dinner will be chicken in tomato and mascarpone sauce with cauliflower rice (kids having pasta) along with a salad.
That leaves me space for a few snacks like watermelon and satsumas.

Really determined to get off to a good start today, and then stick to 1200 or so calories a day. 11st 12 today, and aiming for between 7st7 and 8st6 (just stop when I'm happy)

TheInvestigator · 11/03/2019 11:14

@999caffeineplease

Hello! There's no need to feel embarrassed here. My bmi was obese when I started in February. Just chipping away at it and now I'm no longer obese! Stick with us and we'll all get down to "ideal"!!!

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 11/03/2019 12:38

@glenthebattleostrich hello :)

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 11/03/2019 15:23

Start 9th Feb 12st 3.2lbs

Today 11th Mar 11st 7.8lbs

Lost 9.5lbs in total or 5.5% loss!

Goal 9st 10lbs (which would be a loss of 2st 7lbs or 20.56% loss)

Just 1st 12lbs to go!

thisonebreath · 11/03/2019 16:49

Well done Funky that's a great loss.

I'm weighing in at 10st 13 so a 3lb loss from last week. I've not had time to do the shred today and I'm not sure if have the wherewithal to do it later now. I did have a brisk 30 minute walk and and mother & baby yoga class today so there's been some exercise done.

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 11/03/2019 16:50

Wow! 3lbs!! Well done you!

Walked 6 miles in total today so far. Hoping to see a bigger loss next week

TickVG · 11/03/2019 17:10

Well done funky and thisone - great losses! We totally got this! I am at 10stone 1lb as of today which I'm pleased with- think I got away with my takeaway aberration. 7lbs to go to my goal weight. I watched the original Michael Moseley documentary on iPlayer today about the the 5:2 diet. It really got me thinking. Even though I don't really get on with fasting I can see the logic of giving your body a rest from food and allowing yourself to get hungry. plus I so lack self control that I quite easily start to pile up the snacks as soon as I have one. I need to change my mindset to seeing going without snacks as a workout in itself! Or at the very least eliminating unplanned snacks which are the ones that tend to spiral out of control. Food for thought for Monday!

glenthebattleostrich · 11/03/2019 17:23

Hello, mind if I join you?

I'm on the 6st to lose thread and Funky suggested this one too.

I had 4 1/2 stones to lose, I've lost half a stone in my first week of being super strict with my food and getting off my (slightly less) fat bottom and exercising.

pepguardi · 11/03/2019 17:23

@VivaFrida I'm not sure. Lifestyle I think.

And I spent a lot more time with DP on a weekend than I do during the week so we tend to eat more convenience food "on the go". I also have slipped back into the "glass of wine or two in a Saturday night" trap Blush

My aim is to get to 9'5 by the end of March but my ultimate goal by July is to be below 9.

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 11/03/2019 17:29

Hey Glen!

AmIWelcome · 11/03/2019 17:53

Welcome everyone! Some good weight losses again vwd everybody!!

Having eaten NO junk and drank NO alcohol for the last 3 weeks today is the first day I'm struggling...can't put my finger on why but today I'm hitting a wall.

Still exercising every day which I'm still enjoying and haven't weighed in since Friday and won't until this Friday.

Still...17lbs down in 3 weeks...2.5stone to go!
