We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Something in the water, I gained too. But 3lbs. I've been off piste for 2 weeks now, I really need to sort it out. I was on track today. Just need to keep it up.

How's the LO, Moonlight?

Dont want to interupt your thread as it looks like youre all established and doing so so so well.

Ive got 9 stone to lose and quite overwhelmed by it. Being so big is noq affecting my ability to exercise/making me tired etc.

I just dont know where to start with eating better. Ive read a couple of pages and am in awe of your loss. Ive kept reading how diets dont work and how hard it is to reverse morbid ovesity and got so scared. Great to read its worked for some people. Will try amd read more of this thread

Would love to know how youve done it!

MagicKeysToAsda · 07/04/2019 23:14

You're not interrupting! All welcome even inconsistent people like me who drop in and out

I suspect we've all got different answers to "how" but I'd take a guess it started with finding our "why" - the thing that keeps you going, day after day, on a pretty long road. My "why" was real fear of developing a very serious medical condition that runs in my family, potentially meaning my DC would be without me. On a good day I have lovely positive reasons for wanting to take care of myself, be healthy, value myself etc etc...other days the only thing that keeps me going is The Fear! Are there particular things you'd like to be able to do, that would be easier when carrying less weight? What do you think would help you start?

I am struggling a bit at the moment - stuck in the same section of the scales like quicksand Grin I've set myself a 4 week goal to try and get things moving, so fingers crossed a closer focus might help.

Hang in there Honeysuckle, you've come so so far, you're amazing. Great to hear you and baby are doing well Moonlight!

cricketmum84 · 08/04/2019 07:53

Hi there @KneelJustKneel and welcome!

I know exactly what you mean 1 I have 13 stone to lose to take me down to a healthy BMI. I've lost 3 stone 3 since Xmas with ww so still have just less than 10 stone to go and some days that feels impossible. I set mini goals of 7lbs per month minimum to try make it feel more manageable.

I'm loving the ww plan, as long as I track everything and stay within my points I lose weight, tracking makes me more accountable for what I'm eating. I've had a couple of weeks where I haven't lost and I know it's those weeks where I haven't tracked properly. The plan has naturally lowered my carb intake just Cos carbs are quite high in points.

If you fancy trying ww I've got a code for a free month (I get a month free too).

Oooh welcome back Magic, I've missed your updates and advice.

Welcome Kneel to our lovely thread, my theory is that I might not always lose each week but I'm definitely not going back to where I started (barring a certain pregnancy episode). Hope you find lots of tips and help. Our motto is Keep On Keeping On i.e. never give up as it will get there.

honey yes, really must be something in the water, maybe in all thus rain we've had! Great for the garden though so I can grow my nice healthy veg.

DD is utterly fab still, she's 8 weeks old and we've got into a nice routine. Last week she slept straight through for two nights Smile felt like bliss.

MagicKeysToAsda · 09/04/2019 23:30

Waving to Moonlight! In the words of Chandler "I'm not so good with the advice, can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?" GrinGrin Only just hanging on here so ears wide open for advice and good ideas. Deep down I know this will pass, I just need to KOKO. Agh.

Can't believe your baby is 8 weeks already! I bet those two nights of sleep felt better than a spa break!

Enjoying time with DD these school hols, as have taken some extra unpaid leave to ease the juggling a bit. "Easter crafts" was so successful this afternoon that we both needed a bath after! What's everyone else up to?

HoneysuckIejasmine · 12/04/2019 19:15

Just bumping. Really struggling lately. I need to think. My weight at a plateau. However, I'm a size 10-12 which is smaller than I ever hoped. My fitness is increasing but my mental health is struggling with my failure to lose weight on the scales. So I need to try to chill out. I'm not going to quit. But I do need to stop telling myself I'm terrible if I eat too much. Today I'm feeling shitty because I've eaten 2000 calories. I mean, it's over my target (1300), but I have done/will do enough jogging to make up for it. And actually 2000 cals is a fairly normal amount of food for a woman my height. It's not like I've taken a bath in Ben and Jerry's and scoffed a pack of biscuits. Perspective! That's what I need.

OP posts:
BrokenWing · 12/04/2019 19:25

Sorry you are having a hard time honey, give your head a wobble and repeat I'm a size 10-12 now!! What a journey you have been on.

Is it maybe time to find a different way to measure your success. Ds weighed in at PT last week and his weight is the same as 6 months ago but his body fat is down from 22% to 18%. If you are getting fitter maybe it is the same for you? Can you treat yourself or get access to some fancy scales? Or measure inches instead?

MagicKeysToAsda · 12/04/2019 21:03

Hugs Honeysuckle - I bet your body is very different even though the pounds appear the same on the scale! I took some new comparison photos last weekend and was interested to see a real difference over the past six months even though the weight loss has slowed RIGHT down. I'll bet you're the same - and also you are quite far ahead of me, so you're close to the maintenance zone, and it sounds like an excellent time to think about (as you say) what is a healthy normal nourishing daily intake. Not at all easy though!

moonlight1705 · 13/04/2019 08:13

Oh honey, just think how far you've come and what a difference it has made. I agree that you might want to take measurements and see how toned you are getting. After years of trying to lose weight most of us are bound to struggle with the idea of maintenance calories but you will find your new normal.

I've lost 0.5lb this week so total loss us 39lb.

daisyhead08 · 17/04/2019 17:44

Can I also jump in please? It turns out I have exactly 100 lbs to lose to get to a 'normal' weight. I don't even want to admit to my current weight. I've spent my adult life trying to lose weight and losing two/three stone and then ending up bigger than ever after each attempt. I started last Saturday after I finally faced weighing myself.

To lose: 100 lbs

BrokenWing · 17/04/2019 21:11

Start 1st Jan 2019 - 268 lbs (19st 2lbs)
Current weight - 238 lbs (17st 0lbs)
Total loss - 30 lbs

Lifted 30lbs/13.5kg of ds’s weights yesterday and its hard to believe I was carrying that around everyday !! (and have more than twice that still to lose!)

My first ever fitbit has arrived from Amazon tonight and I'm hoping it will help get me moving. Will wear for the next week without any changes to see what the awful truth is about how little I move, then work on starting moving. I'm thinking a few circuits of the office each day, (down/up 4 flights of stairs), 20 min walk at lunchtime and a longer brisk as I can walk at night with the dog (who won't be allowed to stop and sniff every blade of grass along the way) now the weather is getting better is a good start. Will need to start another excel sheet/graph!!!! 👍🏻

Daisy I know the feeling I didn't either, but once I'd lost that first stone I felt more confident saying it here, although I haven't told anyone in RL and haven't even admitted I'm losing weight yet to anyone other than dh and ds. I've got a discreet clip for my fitbit to wear while at work so noone sees it yet and asks about it. 😳

HoneysuckIejasmine · 18/04/2019 17:21

Hi all. Welcome Daisy and we'll done Broken, you're making excellent progress.

I'm feeling more in the swing of things again now - the warm weather helps. The scales don't seem to be moving but I don't mind. I'm getting fitter, I feel so much better than last year.... I went out today in size 12 shorts. Who'd have dreamed it a year ago?!

OP posts:
BrokenWing · 18/04/2019 23:32

☀️ a little bit of sunshine can make all the difference, it is supposed to be a glorious easter weekend so you can show off your size 12 shorts even more! 👍🏻 🐰🐥🥚🐣

My hairdresser tonight was the first person to notice I've lost some weight. I was a little bit embarrassed 😳 and a little bit pleased 😊.

cricketmum84 · 19/04/2019 16:47

50lbs down for me!!! I've been counting in stones but just rotted up and I've lost exactly 50lbs since Christmas. Still a long way to go but this has cheered me up immensely!

cricketmum84 · 19/04/2019 16:48

Ugh TOTTED not bloody rotted. One day I will learn to check my posts before posting them.

moonlight1705 · 20/04/2019 10:53

Well I've STS this week which I'm a bit disappointed with as I've been pretty good. I guess my body is still not right yet Hmm
Did anyone else find themselves on a plateau and not know how to get out?

Well done cricket, 50lb is a fab loss so far. Do you feel better in yourself noticeably?

broken how nice that someone has noticed. Grin I love it when that happens.

Welcome daisy to our group, I hope you find useful tips

honey I dream of size 12 shorts!!!! Amazing Grin

cricketmum84 · 20/04/2019 11:11

I've had a few weeks of tiny losses or STS. 2.5lbs off this week but I've also finally decided to go veggie so I think the total change in diet has kickstarted my losses. I'm back to work on Tuesday as well after about 4 weeks off so I'll be snacking less.

My total loss goal is 180lbs so even after a 50lb loss I'm still very heavy so haven't noticed much difference in how I feel per se. I compared a photo taken yesterday with one from before Christmas though and you can definitely see a big difference. Also need to buy new jeans as mine now fall down!

daisyhead08 · 20/04/2019 16:55

I lost a big reply I typed earlier on!

Thank you for the warm welcomes, I look forward to being here because I think sometimes it's hard to find people who get how I feel about weightloss. The mums where I live are almost exclusively in amazing shape and still find fault with themselves. It's hard being the token fatty sometimes.

cricket 50lbs is an amazing loss, you should be proud of your progress.

I've been truly inspired by the losses on this thread, it has shown me that I can do this if I'm sensible and keep going.

Week one and 5lbs gone, I typically lose weight very slowly, at a rate of about 1-2 lbs per week, so a nice loss at the start is always a bonus.

To lose: 95 lbs

HoneysuckIejasmine · 20/04/2019 18:54

94.25lbs lost. This is what I'm focusing on. I STS this week. In fact I've been the exact same weight for about 10 days now. shrug I'm happy. I've walked or run 125km so far this month. Could I even dream it so before? Ha! In fact so far this year I've walked the equivalent distance between my home in the south west and a friend's, in Scotland. Insane.

Moonlight don't worry too much, DD is only little! When I hit a plateau I change things up. More exercise, or change my breakfast (I tend to eat same every day), reduce carbs, lower my calorie goal or such. If you're using MFP don't forget to alter your weight. You have to manually change your goal (weekly loss one) then change it back to reset it, it doesn't automatically decrease as you lose weight.

Cricket isn't it lovely when you reach such a lovely big number? Fantastic effort, well done! How's your DS? (Don't say if you'd rather not)

Great attitude Daisy Smile This is a lifestyle change, not a diet. It's a long road, and at times a very hard one. But it's worth doing!

Thanks @HoneysuckIejasmine :)

He's still very up and down although we are having more good days than bad days. He finally got to the top of the waiting list for a Male counsellor but turned it down and said he didn't want to talk to anyone so we had to give up his place.

We haven't had any anger issues for a few weeks now which is good. Had a meeting with school before the holidays where the SENCO is looking at going down the ASD diagnosis route. He managed 3 days at school out of 4 last week.

I start my fancy new job on Tuesday so fingers crossed he keeps going as he is!

Thank you for asking ❤️

fourquenelles · 23/04/2019 13:44

Hello one and all. I weighed myself on Good Friday Bad Bad FridayCan I join you for motivation please?

I managed to shave off 5 stone a couple of years ago on Slimming World but got pissed off with that and have put it all back on again.

I am 5 foot 4 inches tall and 18st 10 lbs (262 lbs). I want to get down to 16 st (224 lbs) initially as that's the top recommended weight for cheap camping chairs and I have a festival to go to in August Grin. Eventually I'd like to be 10 stone (140 lbs) but as I'm 63 it's going to be hard.

I have a walking app on my phone and walk my 3 dogs everyday. I have lost 4 lbs over the weekend by cutting out all carbs and snacks. Only problem is TMI Alert explosive poos whilst my tummy is getting used to fruit and fibre again. Barely made it back from the shops this morning Shock .

If it's OK I will weigh myself on Fridays and report back here for moral support. Thank you all in advance.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 24/04/2019 19:16

cricket that sounds largely positive! Shame he didn't take up the counsellor but can't force him, I guess. Hope he continues to make positive progress. How was your new job?

Four hi, welcome! That's the trouble with SW imo, it doesn't give you long term strategies. As soon as you stop following the plan, it'll creep back in again, especially if you're not thinking about portion size etc.

I'm doing ok here. Off out for W3R3 of Couch to 5K in a bit. Actually jogging, in lycra, in public?! Who'd have imagined it?!

NSV for me yesterday, I had a wonderful two hours in town by myself and had my hair cut. I also went to buy some new casual clothes for my DSis hen do.

I got into an 18 top and 20 jeans which is still big but a whole size down from before Grin

fourquenelles · 26/04/2019 11:48

Hi Honey thanks for the welcome. Well I said I'd be back. Happy to report a loss of 5.5 lbs this week. Been doing a combination of low carb and calorie counting which seems to be working but it's very early days.

moonlight I love NSVs. I have a wardrobe full of different size jeans and I am so looking forward to going a size down.

It's interesting how, even though I am still over 18st, that little amount of weight and better eating regime has noticeably upped my energy levels. Also good to report that I haven't had reflux all week either.

Have a good week everyone.
