I'd like to echo Hairspray's sentiments Smile This is such a supportive thread, no negativity or judgment, lots of enthusiasm, condolence when it goes pear-shaped, and an abundance of great advice. I think what I like so much is that everyone is doing their own thing which gives such a breadth of expertise, which is especially helpful for people trying to find their feet and work out what works for them, and means there's no hectoring or lecturing. But yes, kicks up the bum on request!

Hairspray I'm always amazed by your before & after snaps - what's so striking is that the weight loss has knocked years off you, it looks more like Aunt and Niece than Before and After!

QuimReaper · 11/01/2019 14:36

Also I am SO envious of your 5lbs in one week, I never managed that much! Amazing! Remind me how long you've been egging?

Dashel · 11/01/2019 15:25

I agree that it’s long term tweaks that are needed and so hopefully by doing a 10km run and going to a regular exercise group twice a week it will keep me motivated.

I have been twice this week and aim to be park running tomorrow. I will also be getting on the scales again tomorrow so I’m really hoping for a loss, having been really healthy all week with my food, hitting my 10000 steps each day plus exercise.

If anyone didn’t see Hugh Fernally Whitingstalls program on BBC1 it was quite interesting particularly the bit about food with high fat and sugar having a bliss point. That resonated with me.

Simonsaysitschristmas · 11/01/2019 15:36

@hairspray thank you so much for your words (and your before and afters) - so motivational, especially as a newbie.

Last night I may have had an Indian takeaway, but I declined an Icecream (because I was full which I have never done before) and also this morning I have got up, worked out and stuck to healthy foods and am right back on plan. Normally, if I go rogue on a Thursday night I would sack off the healthy eating until the following Monday and have a weekend “off”

Maybe my mindset is finally changing???

readyforsunshine · 11/01/2019 23:38

Evening all!
I was having a good day but got derailed by 2 chocolate orange cookies. Still no alcohol since nye though!
I’m working this W/e & have a friend coming over tomo eve. That will be quite a test as she is a drinker & awful to say but I associate her with having a drink!
Have a strong w/e everyone for a good weigh in on Monday.

poorpaws · 12/01/2019 00:38

@Hairspray you are very beautiful.

I am trying very hard this week. Had a meal out on Monday which wasn’t so good but followed it with three golden (egg) days. Today was Ok-ish so hoping for a loss by Sunday.

I’m having a minor operation on Tuesday so won’t be able to walk/exercise next week and it is going to be difficult to manage any weight loss. ☹️

Hope everyone has a healthy weekend.

Weighed in today and at 57.3 I am 400 gms up on where I was on Thursday. Not ideal but that’s the fluctuation I expect wirh daily weighing in. The plan is to remain golden over the weekend.

Breakfast was curried chickpeas with two slices of brown bread.

Haven’t thought about meal plan for rest of the week - we normally eat out during the weekend but I am trying to consciously cut down on that.

I am planning to dig out my grandmothers recipe book and try out something new. What’s everyone having over the weekend ?

Koko please allow me to kick you firmly up the arse.

I gave up drinking 4 years ago. It doesn't have anywhere near the impact you think it should. I think it's too easy to replace wine o'clock with cake o'clock.

Well I've seen no movement on the scales this end of the week but my weekly average is down 1.5lb on last week so I'll take it.

I've just bought myself a new book by Michael Mosley.

I really liked his blood sugar diet book. It kick started me to lose weight last year and made me think of dieting a bit differently. I've never Bern one for going on specific diets but there seems to be some proper science behind it.

I'm thinking of giving it a go for a few weeks. I'm going back to the nurse next month to review my blood pressure and I'll probably have to either come off the pill or go on another medication. I'd really like to bring it down if possible.

Starting this morning with some scrambled eggs. Star

Simonsaysitschristmas · 12/01/2019 10:52

My new scales are arrived and it turns out I’m actually half a stone heavier than my old scales were telling me. I spent last night feeling very sorry for myself (still ate relatively well though) and I have got up this morning and given it everything in my work out. Really aiming for a good loss this week.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend whatever you are up to!

Sukiesue12 · 12/01/2019 11:06

A combination of Christmas, New Years and birthdays has meant the weight loss before Christmas has come back. So am going to try this egg diet to start again. This will be the year!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 12/01/2019 11:49

Kokoloco do you log what you eat at all? You’ve probably said and I’ve just forgotten, but if you don’t then I would really recommend it as a way to easily see what you are actually eating. It’s easy to tell yourself you’re eating well but sometimes when you see it written down you realise that all the little things that you don’t take into account add up and mean you’re eating more than you should.

Weighed in this morning at a smidge under 9 stone, so I’m going the right way. Not done much exercise this week, but I ordered an exercise mat and it arrived this morning, and I’ve got dumbbells coming on Monday, so next week I really want to get back into the swing of doing at home workouts plus a bodypump class whenever I can fit it in.

ponygirlcurtis · 12/01/2019 12:14

Well done on the egg loss Hairspray - you look fab.

Koko lots of water and meal planning is what focuses me. I am saying this in the hope I will do it and regain my focus You can do this.

Kick let me know if the book is any good, I liked his BSD books too.

I am going to take my own advice and try to plan my meals for the next week, and get the ingredients today. And drink more water. and less gin

QuimReaper · 12/01/2019 14:13

Simon well done on saying no to the ice cream! Sounds like a mindset shift is definitely occurring Smile It can be so easy to do things out of habit, so I think that's a real achievement. I can't stress enough how much I've found these lifestyle changes to be a question of habit - it's pretty dismaying to find we're basically like animals or children who just need to be "trained", but I was reminded of how true it is after Christmas, even just a few weeks away from my routine and it was so hard to force myself back into it (particularly not drinking every evening!), but it's totally effortless when I'm in the swing.

I'm very annoyed with myself. I've just realised I've missed a perfect opportunity to have a Golden Sprint this weekend (that's when I do 11 golden days on the trot). Could've ditched the Christmas gain all in one go rather than fighting it off one bloody Linda at a time! Grr!

Koko me too.

My meals are fine. Actually i don't really snack at home either. It's the bingeing at work that's my downfall.

The atmosphere at work is awful at the moment and it's very stressful. I end up eating before I've even thought about it. And some days I keep going until I feel ill.Sad

I watched a programme on stress this week. It's on iPlayer. They used a football match as an example which seemed pretty minor to me.

I need to get it under control. Or get a new job Wink

fishonabicycle · 12/01/2019 18:09

Amazing before and after photos hairspray! Your husband to be is a very lucky man. You are totally adorable 😘

readyforsunshine · 12/01/2019 20:40

Autumn I had a protein wrap w scrambled eggs, tomatoes & avocado for bfast, miso soup for lunch & buckwheat noodles w chilli, chicken & veg. Had a kombucha now feeling the need for a cocoa I think!
Tomo will be roast pork & veg (no potatoes) prob a smoothie for bfast. I’m working at lunchtime so prob an apple on the run.
How about you?

Autumnnymph · 13/01/2019 08:48

@readyforsunshine yday ended up wirh DH cooking veggie noodles as I came down with a migraine. I only felt like having some soup so made myself a mixed veg one.

Migraine still on.
I weighed myself and I have gained another 300 gms which doesn’t make sense so am going to assume it had something to do with the migraine and meds.

DH did the grocery run yday and comeback with loads of veggies.

Am thinking of a vegetable stir fry and millet rotis for the day. DH and DD still abed so I am lazing around as well.

readyforsunshine · 13/01/2019 08:54

Hope you’re feeling better soon, migraines are awful.

Dashel · 13/01/2019 09:46

Well done everyone for every good choice that everyone has made so far.

I started my health kick on the 1st of January and had my initial weigh in on Saturday the 5th to let some of the excess water go. I had my second weigh in yesterday (both times first thing) and I lost 2 pounds🥳

I have worked very hard and I honestly feel that was a deserved result. I had two exercise sessions and have kept to 11000 steps each day and kept to my calories.

Oh the negative side I had DOMS so missed parkrun yesterday but am about to go for a run.

Keep going everyone

Autumnnymph · 13/01/2019 10:17

Well done on the loss @Dashel!

Dashel · 13/01/2019 13:39

Thank you Autumnnymph.

I am back and defrosted from my 5km run, no crap excuses this year.

It’s only when i hear. other people come up with silly excuses that I realise how much I do it and that has too stop or nothing will change

Autumnnymph · 13/01/2019 18:40

Have had a shit day today between the migraine, DD and a huge row wirh DH. I have been hormonal and annoyed all day.

Haven’t done so great wirh eating - have t eaten too much but some chocolate was had and I have had more carbs than I should have.

I can feel the migraine receding now and am trying to cheer myself up with comfort reading.

Don’t expect the scars to show me much happiness tomorrow but will weigh in regardless as it helps me stay on track.

How was everyone’s weekend? I have two interviews lined up next week and one of them they are taking me out to lunch. I shall have to be extra golden rest of the week to make up.

Considering the day I have had - am actually proud of myself for staying under my calorie goal and staying away from any alcohol.

Will catch up on the thread tomorrow.

Dashel · 13/01/2019 19:19

Sorry to hear you have had such a rough day Autumn I hop things improve and your interviews go well
