Last year I was gutted at being 13st.

I'm now 17st 2lbs.

I've done nothing but emotionally eat all year, fuelled by depression and anxiety. To the point where I've become mildly agoraphobic.

This has got to be the year I turn my life and poor eating habits around.

I don't know where to start.

I know the title is quite harsh but I've been telling myself it's not so bad.

But it is.

I'm fat. Very fat. And I need to correct it.

I weighed myself and 3.5lbs down! It’s only water weight and it’s the 4lb I put on over Christmas so assumed it would come off quickly, but I’m pretty pleased it’s come off since Tuesday. I’ve lost two inches off my hips and waist too. Hopefully this will be the incentive to stick to plan over the weekend.

catgirl1976 · 05/01/2019 09:04

I've lost again :) 4.6lbs in 4 days. Probably water weight (and shock from withdrawal of Quality Street and Baileys) but still :)

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 05/01/2019 09:24

Just been reading through the thread. Ladies that are doing the 16:8 or any other fasting, you must not have anything but water, black coffee, black tea or green tea in the fasting hours. Those saying 'just a splash of milk won't harm' yes, yes it will. It completely cancels out those hours you've fasted and takes your body out of ketosis. The weight loss will be much better as long as you only have water, black coffee/tea and green tea. Hth

TeaAndNoSympathy · 05/01/2019 10:12

Most of the people on this thread have lots to lose keeping. While you are correct, I would go with the advice of Dr Jason Fung this one. On one of his FAQs it says:

Q: While fasting is it okay to drink coffee with milk? I can’t do black coffee. I have a little milk with my coffee.

A: Technically, the milk does not fall within the guidelines of a true fast, but the small amount of milk/ cream added to coffee improves compliance tremendously for some people. So in our program, we absolutely allow milk/ cream in coffee, but no sweeteners or sugar.

jammf · 05/01/2019 10:21

Yeah it's working for me.
I don't really care if I'm in ketosis or fasting correctly. Me not eating for 16 hours a day is massively reducing my food intake. It's giving me some sort of structure to my eating and making me think about what and when I eat.
I have one cup of tea during the morning with probably 2ml of skimmed milk. Before I begin eating at noon.

IjustbelieveinMe · 05/01/2019 11:39

I'm doing the Pioppi diet 3.1 lbs gone this week and I am not missing potatoes or bread as yet...

LimitIsUp · 05/01/2019 14:31

Well done on the losses Woochoo, TwillBach and Catgirl1976 - it is motivating to read about successful losses.

Onestep what you said about wheat induced hunger and how it causes an obsessive, completely compelling hunger totally rings true for me. I was hungry last night - but I could tolerate it fairly well (surprised myself) whereas I usually cave in.... but I seemed more in control last night after a diet day virtually free of carbs (other than trace amounts in vegetables and some pulses). Dh thinks its all in my head, but I swear I feel brighter and less tired already (due to carb reduction) and I am only half way through day 2

I think what Keeping says about milk in hot drinks when fasting is good to bear in mind for fasters who are struggling or not getting the weight loss they want, but whilst fasting is working for you go with Dr Fung's suggestion?

Struggled with my breakfast this morning - 150g greek yoghurt with homemade rhubarb compote (from the 8 week sugar diet book). Boy was that rhubarb compote eye wateringly tart (just rhubarb, ginger, juice and rind of a lemon and juice and rind of an orange baked in the oven)

mogloveseggs · 05/01/2019 14:34

5'1" and around 12 stone
Eat regularly (even though all ive had today at work is toast and crisps) and move more is my plan.
I can't do sw i just end up focused on when next meal is .

Candace19 · 05/01/2019 15:08

I found a Cadbury's Fudge bar in the bottom of my bag & I didn't eat it! Can't remember the last time I walked away from chocolate lol

I've bought a tub of Slim Fast Banana powder - day 2 today so far so good. The test will be tea time when I've got the kids to bed. Can I resist ???

ZigZagZombie · 05/01/2019 15:25

My weigh-in isn't until Monday but I know it's shifting as my non-stretch jeans are no longer acting as a Victorian corset.

Received some devastating news yesterday and the next 7 days will be awful but I'm going to try and do it without carb-props.

Got my blood glucose monitoring kit today and just measured - 4.9 which wasn't bad I felt mid-afternoon.

Candace19 · 05/01/2019 15:35

Sorry to hear that @ZigZagZombie
I hope you are ok. Thanks

Carbsnomarbs · 05/01/2019 15:37

Has anyone read the article in the paper that shall not be named today (on the app)
About the 800cal a day diet from the 5:2 Dr.
He lost 11lb in 2 weeks!

And to maintain he’s going 5:2 but with 800cals on the 2 days but doing the 2 days back to back

Carbsnomarbs · 05/01/2019 15:37

zigzagzombie thinking of you and hope you and your family are ok Flowers

Carbsnomarbs · 05/01/2019 15:39

I have fallen right off the bandwagon today
No breakfast but then had 2 pancakes with sugar and lemon at lunchtime (making them for the kids) and 3 dates which are laden with calories, also a little bag of mini cheddars, I haven’t actually eaten any real food Sad

Candace19 · 05/01/2019 15:53

@Carbsnomarbs yum pancakes!! It's a good job I have no eggs 😀

Today's not a total write off...if you've careful for tea you might be able to bring it back.

MamaDane · 05/01/2019 15:58

Went to a birthday party today and stayed clear of crisps, biscuits, chocolates, cake, rolls, bacon, battered fish etc.
Had rye bread with eggs, meatballs and cucumber, and half a can of Pepsi max.
I don't even like Pepsi but my placement at the table made it a bit difficult to just get water, which I would have preferred.

Pretty proud of myself for not giving into the temptations. It's only day 4 (for me), so I wouldn't be able to just get back on track if I failed.

Hopefully I won't be too lazy to get on the bike today. 😬

howhowhow · 05/01/2019 17:43

Today I have gone very low carb I hope. I'm planning on doing the bsd but my book hasn't arrived from amazon yet.

Breakfast
2 poached eggs. I had them on their own as I couldn't figure out what to put them with.
I had a coffee too with a small amount of frothy milk (half what I would usually have).

Lunch
I had a bowl of rocket with 30g of goats cheese, a tiny bit of balsamic, 2 more poached eggs and a slice of ham. Need to think of something to eat other than egg.

Since then I have had a satsuma and 3 grapes. And loads of water. I've spent the day thinking about food. Am abso starving and have a headache. Might have to go to bed so I don't eat anything else.

I need to download mfp as I have no idea how I am doing for calories.

LimitIsUp · 05/01/2019 20:06

Carbsnomarbs - that would be referring to the 8 week blood sugar diet (written by the same guy as 5:2). I am on day 2 of it

LimitIsUp · 05/01/2019 20:07

zigzagzombie - sorry that you are going through trying times

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 05/01/2019 20:41

Yes sorry should have said, the milk thing is for those that are really having to now push for weight loss or those that aren't losing as much as they would like. I also hate tea and coffee without milk so do not blame anyone wanting a dash. And yes, simply not eating for 16+ hours each day is helpful even with the brews. 16:8 is the only thing that's ever truly worked for me and its most definitely because I'm simply not eating within certain hours

howhowhow · 05/01/2019 20:57

Those that had a lot of weight to lose have you got loose skin from doing it too quickly? My husband is trying to persuade me I'm going to have a load of saggy skin if I loose it too quickly.

Carbsnomarbs · 05/01/2019 22:33

limitisup how are you finding it? What are the recipes like?
It was in the DM and it seemed like a new plan from the way they were talking about it.

howhowhow I would like to know the answer To this too, one of my worries is having lots of loose skin

LimitIsUp · 05/01/2019 22:51

Carbs, only day 2 for me but so far so good. I have enjoyed the recipes and whilst I am hungry its not a completing dominating 'only thing I can think about' type of hunger. I seem to be able to manage the hunger by drinking a lot of water with lemon. They try and make the recipes punch by packing them with flavour; lots of fresh herbs etc and they are colourful meals to look at (and enjoy visually before eating them). All helps with feeling more 'satisfied' with what you are eating I guess

The meals aren't necessarily family friendly (wouldn't impress my two teens) so I find myself cooking one thing for them and dh and one thing for me Hmm

Notanotheruser111 · 05/01/2019 23:09

In regards to the loose skin. I know I will have plenty because the quality of my skin especially on my inner thighs and stomach is reallly bad, very crepey and fragile. It won’t matter if I go fast or slow the skin will stay. There is nothing I can do about it but it makes me sad. If your skin is still reasonably good quality then losing weight lowly is supposed to help, however it’s not a definite thing some people do and some don’t.
I had a really lazy day yesterday so I need to get back on my bike today. A big well done to everyone who is seeing results already. It’s nice to read.

dontfluffthefluffer · 06/01/2019 00:29

Regarding skin. I lost around 8 stone quickly. Too quickly tbh. Then another 1-2 stone slowly after that (which has gone on and off the last couple of years)

Yes I have quite a bit of loose skin but it's kind of full if that makes sense. Only in my stomach though as my skin was really stretched (thanks to the wonderful monster sized babies I grow 🙄). It now hangs weirdly and still has fat in it so looks weird and awful - coupled with the huge csection pouch it makes me cry fairy frequently.

Nowhere else has this issue though, arms/thighs etc are all fine. When I gain weight the hanging skin looks more jiggly/worse. I would like to hit 10 1/2 stone (I'm 5 10") I'd like to try and speak to the docs to get it dealt with.
