Lose a stone in the new year - who’s in?

hooveringhamabeads · 28/12/2018 20:21

I am determined to lose my last stone of baby weight in the new year. It will be the same year that my ‘baby’ turns 9 so it’s probably about time. I usually make the mistake of getting to about April, having a panic that it’s nearly summer and then half-arsedly losing a few pounds before it all goes tits up again in the summer holidays.

So! My plan is:

  1. blood sugar diet for jan/Feb. Which obviously means no/very little booze.

  2. couch to 5k (I have a friend who is similarly keen to do this so that will motivate me).

  3. 30 day shred - never made it past the second stage before.

Who’s with me?

End of week one weigh in for me and I’ve lost 4lbs which I’m pleased with. Another 2lbs and I’ll be the weight I was before Christmas Grin.

Haven’t started on the shred yet, partly because I’m in the middle of a mega house sort out and I don’t have the space in my living room, and partly because I’m still so unfit that I know it will kill me, I think a few more runs first would be a good idea.

Off out for dinner with friends tonight at my favourite restaurant so that’s going to be a challenge, I guess it will be soup for me! Might treat myself to a glass of wine, haven’t had anything to drink at all since last Thursday.

How’s everyone else doing?

AdventureTravelDreamer · 17/01/2019 07:52

Islands that's a fantastic loss, well done!!

EmmaGrundy Our office is also a nightmare for small chocolate bars, various types of biscuits etc. I have been really resisting though. Yesterday I succumbed and had one digestive thin at 31 calories in a meeting.

Weight loss is going slowly here! I have lost exactly 3lbs since my dietbet starting weight so I have another 3lbs to go to hit target by 2nd Feb. I really thought I would be ahead of schedule by now but it is a good motivational tool for me as I know it will keep me on track for the next 2 weeks. We have my BIL and his wife coming to stay for 3 nights a week today though and that is worrying me as we will be out 2 of those nights, one evening for dinner and I just need to plan ahead and make sure I don't mess things up then!!

I had a really bad week last week and ended up having a huge cry on Monday and decided I was going to calorie count my entire weeks worth of food. My TDEE is 1600, I’ve tried 1400kcal a day and I lose nothing, so I’m focusing on eating 3500kcal a week less to lose 1lb. It’s really, really hard. I think I’ve done ok though, I’ve stuck to the food I said I’d eat, and removed anything I ended up not eating. I get weighed at the gym tomorrow with my PT and I’ll weigh in at home on Monday. If I don’t lose anything, I honestly have no idea what I’ll do. It’s quite depressing really!

Islands81 · 17/01/2019 19:25

Oogle - don’t give up! Have you looked into the blood sugar diet?

Islands81 · 17/01/2019 19:28

@AdventureTravelDreamer 3lbs is good! That’s nearly quarter of the way there. I ate out last night and asked for a starter as a main course, and had a side of baby carrots too. I had mozerella with clementine and maple (sounds horrible but it was amazing!).

Caggie09 · 18/01/2019 09:21

Ive not really been checking inBlush Been to the gym twice this week and plan on going later too.

Start weight: 10st 1lb
Weigh in today: 9st 9lb
Goal: 9st

So 6lbs off! Im very pleased with that. Im going to have a treat later on, found it really worked for me last time. Have a good day everyoneGrin

Islands81 · 18/01/2019 12:37

That’s amazing @Caggie! You’re nearly half way there and it’s only the middle of January.

I am missing carbs sooo much 😭. Another roast dinner yesterday without the potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings, they’re the best bits ☹️.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 19/01/2019 06:16

End of week 2 and I've lost another 4lbs only 1 more pound to go and I'll have lost a stone. Hopefully that will be the case when I weigh myself next week.

Islands81 · 19/01/2019 10:05

That’s incredible @EmmaGrundy! I have now lost 6lbs after 11 days so I’m the exact same weight as I was at the beginning of December, before I started a month long Christmas food/booze binge Grin.

HumpHumpWhale · 19/01/2019 10:17

Can I be a late joiner? I'm about 74kg and I want to be 65 to 67. I'm 5'9" so I'm actually still in the healthy BMI range (just) but I hate how soft and lumpy I am and how nothing fits. I started by cutting out all sugar and getting a pedometer, aiming to do 10k steps at least on the days I don't do other exercise, but have also been using my fitness pal to calorie count this week. I totally fell off the wagon yesterday, baked cookies with the kids and ate two and then did home made pizza for dinner. Bit worried the calorie tracking will make me obsessive as I was anorexic in my teens, but let's see. Obvs not so far!
The batteries on my brand new scale died yesterday so I can't check my progress until I've sorted that, but I feel like a bit of accountability might help me!

Islands81 · 19/01/2019 12:17

Of course you can HumpHumpWhale Smile

Caggie09 · 22/01/2019 15:30

Been to the gym today, i feel so much better for going. Keep picking at the left over Celebrations though while cooking tea!! Because they're so small i think they dont count!!😂 Must stop this!!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/01/2019 21:57

How's everyone doing? I think my loss has slowed down but will hold off weighing myself until Friday.

I've got a big Burns Night do to go to on Saturday. All food and wine included in the ticket price so I am going to have to resist getting my money's worthGrin

Islands81 · 24/01/2019 02:39

Hi @EmmaGrundy. It all went a bit tits up for me yesterday because I had to drive nearly 400 miles, and ended up having a McDonald’s at the services Blush. I’d been soooo good as well! Interestingly I weighed myself today and I’m 2lbs heavier than the previous morning, so it obviously made quite an impact!

And now I’ve been struck down with a horrible cold/cough lurgy so that’s running out of the window until I’m better.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/01/2019 06:50

Oh poor you Islands. I hope you feel.better soon.

Maybe some of the McDonalds weight is actually water and so will drop off again by today?

Islands81 · 25/01/2019 00:29

Thanks @EmmaGrundy. I feel like crap but one good thing is that I have no appetite at all! Half way through painting and redoing dd’s Room too and the whole house is upside down because of this, and I’m too ill to do anything about it 😭

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/01/2019 09:29

I've done it!!!! I have lost 1 stone and 1 lb since NYD. Feel very excited and am no resisting the urge to celebrate by raiding the fridge Grin

Weight loss has definitely tailed off as I've only lost 2lbs in the last week. I need to be really strict with myself as i can already feel myself weakening, not helped by long days at work when I get home too late to cook a proper meal

I'm now aiming for another stone by April, which is when we go on holiday. If I can keep up a weight loss of 2lbs per week then I should manage it but I'm not banking on it.

Islands81 · 25/01/2019 09:52

Congratulations @EmmaGrundy, you win the thread! That’s amazing, a stone in 25 days. Are you going to stick around while you lose the other one? I hope so because it only seems to be you and me still posting and otherwise I’ll be talking to myself Grin.

Well I’ve lost my McDonald’s weight now so I’m back to where I was on Tuesday. 6lbs lost, 8 to go! Still feeling 💩 with this cold.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/01/2019 10:10

Hi islands yes I'll be sticking around! Good for motivation. I've joined several of the "lose a stone by...." threads before and always failed miserably.

I have got a rare day off work today, and was going to go for a long walk but the weather is so miserable I've stayed in and am now having to fight the urge to open the fridge and start eating! I am going to the gym later - I'm trying to do 4 or 5 sessions a week but this week has been manic at work, and I haven't got home until after 9pm on a couple of nights and have just collapsed into bed.

Well done for losing 6lbs, that is almost half a stone. Losing at that rate is much more sensible than what I'm doing, and my biggest battle will be maintaining my weight loss. I am on the Blood Sugar Diet thread as well because I'm doing the 800 calories a day BSD.

Tomorrow night we are going to a Charity Burns Night party, I paid a lot for the tickets and all food and drink is included. It will be very hard for me not to eat loads on the grounds that I want to get my money's worth! There is Scottish dancing after the meal so will join in enthusiastically in order to burn any excess calories off Grin

Hope you have a good weekend

Islands81 · 25/01/2019 14:01

I’m doing the BSD too and haven’t found that I’ve been losing weight as quickly as I did last year. I haven’t been sticking to 800 calories though, haven’t been counting them at all! But just keeping away from sugar and refined carbs has meant that I’ve lost weight, even if it is a bit slower.

Good luck with the restraint on your night out, is it a set menu or buffet type thing?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/01/2019 14:31

It's a set meal, 3 courses. It's for a charity, we go every year and it's always the same - smoked mackerel pate and toast, haggis with neeps and tatties, then trifle or cheese and biscuits. Avoiding the carbs at the main course will be tricky! I'll pick at it. I've offered to drive us and another couple who are going so at least won't be tempted to partake of the wine and whisky that will be flowing in abundance!

I have been trying to stick to 800 calories but some meals are "guestimates" so i am going back to weighing. Just had lunch - 100 gms chicken breast, lettuce, cucumber, 5 cherry tomatoes, 1 tbsp low fat low sugar dressing. Plus a black coffee and 500mls of water. In order to stave off the temptation of the fridge I have just cleared out a cupboard in the bedroom with all sorts of crap in it, so am feeling virtuous.

Caggie09 · 25/01/2019 16:28

Aww well done EmmaGrundy!! Have you noticed any physical changes yet?

Start weight: 10st 1lb
Weigh in last week: 9st 9lb
This week: 9st 8lb
Goal: 9st
Im happy with a pound loss. Didnt think id lose anything really, hope to be 9st 7 next week!!

Islands81 · 31/01/2019 01:11

How’s everyone doing? I’ve had a really shitty week - been ill with the lurgy and had some really bad news, so not been as on the case with my diet as before. Have lost another pound though so that’s half a stone now. Starting to see the difference now in my shape.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/01/2019 17:37

Caggie no physical changes yet apart from being a bit thinner.

It's my weigh in day tomorrow. I don't think I've lost much this week despite being very good. I managed the Burns night last weekend by eating a small amount of the pate, a bit of haggis with a tiny spoonful of neeps, and no dessert.

Islands dont be dispirited. We all have bad days/ weeks but think of it as temporary. Hopefully you will feel better soon.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 02/02/2019 12:42

weigh in yesterday - only 1 lb down since the previous week despite being very good Sad. Not sure what more I can do. But at least it's still a loss.
