Lose a stone in the new year - who’s in?

hooveringhamabeads · 28/12/2018 20:21

I am determined to lose my last stone of baby weight in the new year. It will be the same year that my ‘baby’ turns 9 so it’s probably about time. I usually make the mistake of getting to about April, having a panic that it’s nearly summer and then half-arsedly losing a few pounds before it all goes tits up again in the summer holidays.

So! My plan is:

  1. blood sugar diet for jan/Feb. Which obviously means no/very little booze.

  2. couch to 5k (I have a friend who is similarly keen to do this so that will motivate me).

  3. 30 day shred - never made it past the second stage before.

Who’s with me?

It's funny, isn't it, @LokiBear? I'm excited too, and have spent an hour today planning and such. Just need to make sure I actually do it now!

Oogle · 01/01/2019 19:50

With this and a new bullet journal, I am fizzing with excitement Grin

Weighed in this morning AND took photos. 62kg, which is 9st 10lb I think?

This is the last day of my time off so I’m starting properly tomorrow but I’ve been more mindful of what I’ve eaten today.

Gym tomorrow, have already planned lunch and dinner: tuna sandwich for lunch, beef tacos for dinner. No alcohol. No snacking.
Going to meal plan the rest of the week tonight and do a food shop online.

katmarie · 01/01/2019 20:26

My first proper day is tomorrow. We've just sat down and meal planned for the week, all done thinking about being healthier. So I'm off to a positive start. I weighed myself this morning and I'm 13st 6. So I was right about needing to lose about 3st overall. But for now I'm concentrating on the first stone. Next weigh in monday....

AdventureTravelDreamer · 01/01/2019 21:40

Place marking and will read properly in the morning. I want to lose exactly 1 stone to bring me under 10 stone and want it home by the end of March. It's my birthday at the weekend though so nothing much will change before then though I have gym sessions booked in for tomorrow, Thurs & Fri so will be active.

hooveringhamabeads · 02/01/2019 02:24

Slightly embarrassed to admit that despite starting this thread I didn’t weigh in as I have been suffering from what felt like a terminal hangover today following NYE. Was invited to my mum’s for a roast dinner anyway this evening so I knew there wasn’t much point in starting today. Tomorrow will be the one, I promise.

I'd like to join too. I was on keto diet from Sept - Nov and lost 18lb. I had to come off as eyes very dry. Now eyes better but have put back 7 lb through Dec when i had loads of family b'day meals out and Xmas parties. Now i must get back on it and push to lose a stone by mid March. i will be going back to gym 3 times each week, gym 40 mins then swim 30 mins. Walking dog more. Keto diet v.l. Carbs. Weighing every week and checking with keto urine sticks.

Foreverlexicon · 02/01/2019 07:22

My god I just weighed in and it’s worse than I thought.

I was 154 earlier this year prior to a break up. Naturally went down to 140 following that then the comfort eating started.

I have a date next Wednesday - tips to lose 2 stone in a week?!

Just kidding. I know how to eat to lose weight. I’m not counting calories or cutting anything completely out as I’ve had a severe eating disorder in the past and it’s triggering, I just need to crack on and do it as well as up my running a bit.

In a weeks time my horse comes back into full work and I will of finished studying a work related course so I will have some more free time. I work long strange hours in a stressful desk job which is also shifts plus a long commute so it’s a bad combination really!

I’m on a rest day today and I don’t really eat breakfast so plan to have leftover NYE salad for lunch and leftover NYE pea soup for dinner today as well as ride the horse and try to fit in a run I think. And lots of water to lose the bloat!

My weigh ins will be a bit sporadic due to my shifts - would like to be 167 before my date next week as that’s what I was on our first date (there’s been a long gap between them for various reasons) just so I feel a bit less self conscious!

FiveShelties · 02/01/2019 07:34

Can I join in too please?☺

Weighed in on 31st Monday at 10st 11lbs and want to get down to 9st 12lbs so 13 pounds to go. Would be delighted to be under ten stone again.

Northernsights · 02/01/2019 07:40

Can I join. More than a stone to lose, but it’s a good start. I’m going away for Easter and would like to be at least a stone lighter then. Will weigh in when I get out of bed (I’m not back at work until tomorrow and dc had friends to sleepover so I was late to bed!)

katmarie · 02/01/2019 12:35

Is anyone using any particular apps to track food etc? I had fruit for breakfast and a chicken salad for lunch so feeling very virtuous so far but it would be helpful to track what I'm eating.

Simonsaysitschristmas · 02/01/2019 14:31

I’m using MY Fitness Pal to track my calories @katmarie Smile I have so far had yogurt and granola for breakfast (200 cals) and soup and a whole meal roll for lunch (300 cals). I have the gym at 5 and have already drunk 1.4litres of water so feeling positive. I’m aiming to have my stone off in the next 8 weeks.

AdventureTravelDreamer · 02/01/2019 16:10

I just write things down so I can see what I have eaten though I have also used mfp in the past.

Only had one meal today of 387 calories so that's a positive but I am just so pissed off with myself! My weight this morning puts me (just) into the overweight bracket on bmi. I have never been overweight in my life and am so cross with myself for not doing something about it sooner. Anyway I know all I can do now is make sure I am focussed enough to get rid of it!!

Have a 45 min boot camp at the gym later and veggie chilli planned for dinner.

Hope everyone else has had a good start Smile

Simonsaysitschristmas · 02/01/2019 16:23

@adventuretraveldreamer if it makes you feel any better I can’t remember a time in my adult life where I was in the normal range for BMI Blush though I have already got myself from ‘obese’ into ‘overweight’ and I know I will soon be in the ‘normal’ bracket Grin

Oogle · 02/01/2019 17:46

Good day today. Gym first thing, only a protein bar for breakfast (pre-gym, I didn’t wake up early enough for anything better). Tuna and cheese sandwich for lunch. Tacos for dinner. No alcohol. Just enjoying a tonic water with lime and lemon slices now. Will record everything on MFP later.

I’m feeling so positive - my whole outlook has changed.

Northernsights · 02/01/2019 17:52

I use my fitness pal too. Good day for me, been to gym, lots of water and eating been good too! Hope I can keep it up

FantailsFly · 02/01/2019 18:11

Ooh I'm in [chews and swallows last Christmas choc]. Right ... I'm going to be the tortoise to your hares - I'm going for regular 3-5 mile walks, some core work, smaller portions and minimal snacking so by the time I'm 50 at the end of the year, I'll be 50 and Fabulous. And 63kgs (5' 6").

Simonsaysitschristmas · 02/01/2019 20:00

I’ve done the gym! Hardly smashed it but glad I am in the mindset of going. Currently cooking my soup to have for lunch the next few days, last thing to do is finish my water for the day!

Sarahandduck18 · 02/01/2019 20:08

My aim is to low carb but not crazily- eg no alcohol, sweets, cakes, biscuits, but allowed fruit.

Try to eat 5-7+ portions of fruit and veg a day.

Small plate size portions.

Aim for 3000 steps per day on work days and 6000 on non work days.

Have gym membership ready to go and friend to go with.

Will make more effort to take dcs swimming regularly.

Back to at home exercise videos which worked to lose stones years ago.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 02/01/2019 22:26

Passable day today.

Usual milky coffee for breakfast; leftover meat on crackers for lunch; last of the turkey with a huge pile of veg for tea. No sugar in my cuppa.

Had a couple of snacks. Need to cut that out!

Two-mile walk.

Cals under what I burned...just!

shalll · 03/01/2019 17:46

@Simonsaysitschristmas well done for getting to the gym and @TheBitchOfTheVicar sounds like a good day!

Very delayed start here due to being away but did ski several hours today and yesterday so hope that helped a bit. Went to a hamburger place for lunch but I had the soup 😇. I'm feeling quite bloated though after the festive season and really can't wait to get back into eating properly.

Bring on next week.

Foreverlexicon · 03/01/2019 21:52

I’ve not had the best of starts to be honest.

Polished off the last of the Christmas chocs yesterday and today has been a chronic insomnia day. I’ve only slept 1.5 hours and I’m on a late shift so won’t be in bed before 3am.

So just because I’ve been awake so long I’ve eaten an extra meal as hungry! And being so tired has made me crave sugar so I’ve had a chocolate bar and a couple of very small pieces of cake at work. Could be a lot worse though.

Hopefully a better day tomorrow! There is officially nothing left in the house to tempt me so that’s something.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/01/2019 22:05

I'm in!
I would like to lose 2 stone overall, but my short-term goal is 1 stone by April, as we are going on an adventure activity holiday then and I am very worried that I will not be able to keep up with the group.

I'm planning to follow the 8 week blood sugar diet although I'm not sure I will manage to cope with the restricted calories. I already go the gym and work out every day after work, but then come home and raid the fridge! Today I did a Spin class and a HIIT class after work, came home and ate some stirfried chicken with veg. It was a small portion and already I'm eyeing up a leftover mince pie. But I'll try to stick with it - knowing its only 8 weeks might make it easier, although I don't then want to be falling into the trap of losing it in the first 2-3 months then eating to reward myself!

I'm planning to weigh in on Fridays, but I did weigh myself on New Years Day which is when I got the shock of my life. I knew I'd put on weight over the last few months but hadn't realised just how much.....

katmarie · 03/01/2019 22:28

Some good bits and some bad bits today. Good bits, ham salad fro lunch and no snacks at work. Also I drove past KFC and Mcdonalds at lunchtime and didn't give in to temptation. Go me! Homemade chicken soup for dinner, and no alcohol. so all good there. Bad bits, a snack of cheese and crackers while my DS had his dinner. I'm trying to teach him to eat nicely and to share, so it makes sense to have something to eat while he eats to model good behaviour, but I really need to swap the cheese and crackers for some fruit or something. We just have soooo much christmas cheese left in the house. Also I have nibbled on a few quality street chocolates. However I have now eaten all the ones I like, so that won't be happening again!

I really don't want to throw all the nice leftover food we have away, that seems like a horrible waste, so I'm trying to find a balance somewhere between eating it, and not just pigging out.

Northernsights · 03/01/2019 23:11

Bad day for me today as pre arranged dinner out and theatre (Xmas present) tried to make healthy choices but I think 2 glasses of wine tipped me over the calories. I’ll go to the gym tomorrow and try to be really good food wise

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/01/2019 07:22

So, I weighed myself yesterday and was appalled. I've put on more weight over Christmas than I thought.

I really need to lose the weight so I have started the BSD and am determined to stick to it.
