Lose a stone in the new year - who’s in?

hooveringhamabeads · 28/12/2018 20:21

I am determined to lose my last stone of baby weight in the new year. It will be the same year that my ‘baby’ turns 9 so it’s probably about time. I usually make the mistake of getting to about April, having a panic that it’s nearly summer and then half-arsedly losing a few pounds before it all goes tits up again in the summer holidays.

So! My plan is:

  1. blood sugar diet for jan/Feb. Which obviously means no/very little booze.

  2. couch to 5k (I have a friend who is similarly keen to do this so that will motivate me).

  3. 30 day shred - never made it past the second stage before.

Who’s with me?

I had a good day yesterday, salad for lunch, soup for dinner and a sandwich thin with jam when I got in from work before bed.

Woke up and already savagely thinking about food!
I’m kinda planning to try and keep my calories on work days on the low side, around 1000-1200 although I don’t count, usually do 4 long days a week - and then relaxing on my rest days.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 05/01/2019 11:20

A couple of days which balanced each other out - Thursday I didn't eat too much in the day, felt crap with my period. But a party with a buffet! So ate more than I should have. But yesterday ran a hilly 5k and want really hungry, so only ate a huge vegan salad, with houmous, cashews, sauerkraut and veg, which made up for the day before. I haven't lost any weight though!

I have signed up for RED January, but today is stretching and strength, as DH is at work so I can't leave the DC.

Have a good day, everyone!

shalll · 07/01/2019 09:13

Right way in completed.

I've not gained any weight over Christmas (phew) so scales currently at 70kg / 11lbs.

Aiming for 65kg / 10.2 stone.

Today's breakfast:

  • One slice of toast
  • Berocca with multivitamins and probiotics

Lunch I think will be soup and boiled eggs. Dinner not sure yet!

Caggie09 · 07/01/2019 09:44

Last week i said id start. I derailed! Felt sorry for myself on NYD, just ate what i want.

Not weighed again, but will be back Fridat to update🙈

AdventureTravelDreamer · 07/01/2019 10:13

Was my birthday at the weekend and so I wasn't overly strict with myself and I have also been feeling pretty rubbish so no exercise this year yet either despite lots of good intentions!! Am due to start netball again tomorrow but will need to see how my chest is by then.

Back to work and our normal routine today. Have got soup for lunch so that I don't get a meal deal or similar in town.

What is everyone doing re weigh ins? I am usually a very frequent weigher and track it on an app. Have always found this works best for me. I have also signed up to a DietBet. It's mainly an American thing where you essentially bet on yourself to lose weight! I have done a Kickstarter one which means I need to lose 4% of my body weight in 4 weeks. For me this was 6.1lbs. Think I have already lost about 1.5 so hopefully it is achievable and will help me stay on track!

malteserhound · 07/01/2019 13:54

Please can I join you? I need to lose the same 13.5lbs that I needed to lose this time last year, and the year before that. I use MFP and generally get to within a lb or so of my target weight within a couple of months, then manage to keep it off over the summer, then lose motivation/ get stressed and it gradually goes back on again over the course of the autumn. It's the snacking that does for me! I'm determined this year to get it off and keep it off!

I'm 173cm tall (5' 7 1/2'') and currently 10st 9lbs. My ideal weight is 9st10lb. I weight train, do spinning classes, horse riding, dog walking, so plenty of activity. Just need to stop bingeing on chocolate and crisps Blush

Islands81 · 09/01/2019 19:34

Hi all! OP here - had a name change.

To my shame I only got going today with diet and exercise, we were away so much over the holidays that it was going to be tricky to do it sooner.

Weighed myself this morning - bit heavier than I thought Blush, was hoping I was just over 10 stone but I’m 10 stone 4. But that’s kickstarted me into action. I’ve been to the supermarket today and bought loads of stuff for the blood sugar diet, and so far only eaten some scrambled eggs with tomatoes and a babybel today. Just about to have dinner, stir fried vegetables with tofu.

Also just got back in from the first run of the couch 2 5k, went with my friend and despite it being literally freezing outside it was surprisingly ok once we got going.

Also only been drinking water today, and won’t be having my usual cider this evening 😭. That’s going to be the hardest bit for me I think.

Welcome all new recruits - how’s everyone else getting along?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 09/01/2019 22:36

OP 10 4 is my goal weight!!!!

Oogle · 10/01/2019 12:15

I'm doing ok. Weighed in at home on Tuesday and had lost 0.5kg (so 1lb) but then had a pizza that night (doh). Haven't drank this week and feel really good. I weigh in at the gym tomorrow so hoping their scales show a loss too!

malteserhound · 10/01/2019 21:08

Not so good. Healthy eating DH (who normally keeps me in check as regards food) has been away the past few days, and I've been living on leftover chocolates and popcorn Blush.
Starting again tomorrow!

Islands81 · 10/01/2019 22:42

Can relate to the leftover Christmas chocs etc around the house - I’ve got tons, the dc don’t like chocolate (weirdos), and I’m a single parent so I have no one else to eat it for me! Have put it out of sight and hopefully out of mind.

Not done bad on the eating front today, halloumi and salad for lunch, then veggie bolognese with pea pasta for tea (found the pea pasta in the free from bit in Morrisons yesterday and it’s surprisingly quite nice if anyone else is low carbing).

I did have 2 glasses of wine this afternoon though at my recently bereaved friend’s house. I tried to protest but I have the breaking strain of a kit kat and also under the circumstances I thought I’d have a drink with her.

Put a pair of jeans on today which have always been too big for me and they’re uncomfortably tight and I have an overhang. That’s quite depressing.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 11/01/2019 06:50

I've just weighed myself. I've been really pleased as I've lost 9lbs since NYD. I know that's mostly water weight and that the loss will be far less next week but its motivating.
If I lose another 5lbs by the end of January I'll have lost the stone I gained in the last 2 years. I'll then look at trying to lose another stone which - if I manage it - will take me down to pre baby weight. Said baby is now 22!

Islands81 · 11/01/2019 08:37

Wow @emmagrundy that’s amazing! Well done.

shalll · 11/01/2019 10:32

Wow @EmmaGrundyForPM that's incredible!!

Things going well here - done a fair amount of exercise this week but not shifted the dial in the scales too much yet. I should stop weighing every day.

The weekend is always a challenge for me, will try and stick to my plan!

Still on the straight and narrow! Weighed myself this morning and had lost 1lb after 2 days of blood sugar diet, so I’m happy with that.

Having a bit of an energy crash though. Keep napping during the day and then I stay up too late and so it goes on.

Had berries with yoghurt and seeds for breakfast, edamame bean salad for lunch and roast dinner for tea - but without the potatoes or Yorkshire puddings which was a bit sad.

Finding the not drinking in the evening so hard!

AdventureTravelDreamer · 13/01/2019 09:29

@emmagrundyforPM that's an amazing loss - well done!!

What height are you @Islands81? I'm aiming for a goal weight of somewhere around 9st 10 - 9st 12 and am 5ft 5.

I am still on track here. Had a good week food wise and no alcohol during the week. I had 2 glasses of wine on Friday night and between half to three quarters of a bottle of Prosecco last night but had enough calories in the bank to cover that Grin

Am pretty pleased to have made it through the weekend without derailing ( I know it's only Sunday morning but I am much less likely to be tempted to have a drink tonight and that is what usually puts me over calorie wise)

Keep it up everyone

EmmaGrundyForPM · 13/01/2019 11:12

Thanks Adventure, I'm the same height as you and I've not been below 10 stone since I as pregnant 22 years ago. I'd love to get back down there. The issue for me isn't so much losing weight, but maintaining a weight loss........

NottySal · 13/01/2019 13:19

Hello everyone! Can I join in? I would like to drop 2 stone before May, as we have planned a trip to NY and I want to go shopping- and also need to be in shape in general. Today I went for 6km run, have started recording my food in my fitness pal and measured myself. I will stick to around 1400 kal a day, with exercise on top- although can not motivate myself to get to the gym at work...anybody any good tips for fitness apps for at home training?

Islands81 · 13/01/2019 15:20

@adventuretraveldreamer I’m 5’8” - I started at 10 stone 4 and would like to lose a stone, then I’ll be the same weight as I was before I got pg with DD2 9 years ago. Because I’m tall a stone doesn’t make a huge difference to my body shape but it’s the difference between being a size 10-12 and having overhang in my jeans, to being a comfortable size 10. I would feel a lot better about myself if I could get back to that point.

This is my first alcohol free weekend for a very long time, it’s been tough but I’m sure my liver is thanking me for it.

Weighed myself this morning and I’ve lost 3lbs since Wednesday so chuffed with that. Did my second run yesterday and it was a lot easier than the first one. It’s so satisfying opening my fridge and seeing lots of healthy food, I feel like a proper grown up Grin.

And sorry if this is TMI but there’s been an unexpected bonus to the blood sugar diet already - I’ve suffered from piles for a long time (thanks dc) and constipation (probably due to a crap diet) and recently going for a poo has really not been a fun experience. But the last couple of days that’s really eased up, and things are a lot more regular and pain free in that department. Long may that continue!

@nottysal welcome aboard!

How’s everyone else getting along? Seems to have gone a bit quiet recently 🤔

Islands81 · 13/01/2019 15:22

@nottysal thoroughly recommend the 30 day shred (it’s on YouTube if you have a smart tv, or you can get the dvd). It’s brutal but it bloody works! Google some before and after pics.

shalll · 14/01/2019 12:12

Right I need a serious kick up the backside. Have been muching through leftover christmas biscuits / chocolates all weekend and surprise suprise, weight is static on the scales. so still 70kg as per the start of this thread.

So this week is going to be different. Four workouts booked in (tennis, PT and circuits) and will try to add a run or two in addition to that. Will seriously up the water intake. Food I'll stick with what I am doing minus all the treats.

Hoping to report better results next week!

NottySal · 14/01/2019 18:58

Hi all, I had my first day at work today (watching calories) and didn’t eat sweets/chocolates etc... feeling very smug with self. Thanks for recommendation @Islands81 I will check out the 30 day shred.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/01/2019 06:41

NottySal our office is a nightmare as there is always food lying around - chocolate, biscuits, cake. Luckily I don't have a sweet tooth or my willpower would be severely tested!

I am still on track to lose a stone, hopefully be early Feb or even the end of this month although I know the rate of loss will tail off.

I am trying to exercise most days although this week is tricky - I have meeting after work today and tomorrow so can't fit anything in an those days. I did do a spin class last night. I suppose if I was really trying I'd be doing a workout right now instead of being on mumsnet!
