I have looked at other threads but there are so many of them that i dont know where to start so thought i would see if anyone else is thinking about starting now and wanted to join me so we can motivate each other!
Ideally i would like to eventually lose 3 stone.

Hi mmm, I agree it's boring but stick with it, this is just the time you might sabotage yourself and get complacent!! (not that I'm one to talk)

I agree salads are boring and tasteless. I've found that stronger tasting foods make me feel I've eaten more. So eg an anchovy on Ryvita etc, or Tabasco on a boiled egg.

Glad to see you're still here, I think everyone else must be bored too

marymoocow · 05/07/2007 20:28

Oh don't worry, i'm not giving up. This is something i've been working myself up to since i had ds3 (he was 4 in May ). I have the determination, just not the inspiration for dinners.....or breakfast.....or lunch . Trouble is i'm trying to fit the meals in with the family, and things that the dc will eat.

curiouscat · 06/07/2007 11:19

I find it hard to control my eating when catering for family too. We always have snacks available for the dcs and I am tempted sometimes. Also I think I wouldn't mind eating boring slimming food if I lived alone and didn't have to eat with anyone else.

But I went clothes shopping yesterday, and for the umpteenth time decided nothing looks good on me and there's no point buying till I'm at the size I want to be. Youngest dc is 5 so it's been going on too long. Cue gardening clothes, knackered jeans with thighs fraying etc.

I really want this year to be different, and it's good to be able to see how everyone else is doing

marymoocow · 06/07/2007 21:57

Well you'll be pleased to know i feel like i'm back on track tonight - i've been shopping so the cupboards are full with useful food instead of rubbish. Dh really good tonight and cooked tea (i find that gets a bit much at times trying to think what to do). We had home-made fish and chips, which meant that the kids thought they were having a treat and didn't realise just how healthy they were being (or helpful to mummy ).
I am desperately trying to keep it from dd that i am trying to lose weight. She often worries if she has a fat tummy, and whether she looks nice. She's 7 next week. Not that there's an ounce of fat on her at all -takes after her father.

Glad you're here too, to keep me going. . Looks like its just me and you

marymoocow · 08/07/2007 21:42

Well i'm still here. Anyone else? Or have you all got so thin you've slipped through the cracks in the keyboard?
Not done too bad over the weekend (but have had a full sunday roast ). Back on the straight and narrow tomorrow, after bit of a shaky week last week.
Anyone care to carry on with me?

curiouscat · 09/07/2007 09:00

hi marymm, back again. Feeling good as had a couple of bike rides at the weekend which will have mitigated the overeating.

Hope you're having a good Monday. I read a Paul McKenna interview in the papers at the weekend, launching an I can Make You Slim book etc. His rules are 1) eat when you're hungry 2) eat what you want to 3) stop when you're full 4) really enjoy what you're eating. That's it.

Sounds so simple, but my life just isn't like that. A colleague goes to WW and I may join, but in past feel it's a rip off always flogging processed WW meals etc.

Going alone doesn't seem to work for me, what are you all sticking to?

marymoocow · 09/07/2007 16:45

Think you have to follow whichever plan you are comfortable with. I have looked at WW and Slimming World, and for me the slimming world one is easier as i don't have to count points all the time. There's just basic rules to remember. Not that i have ever been to a meeting. Just borrowed friends books, and buy the magazine occasionally.
Glad your still here. Had a good day so far today, and feeling back on track.

ktmoomookimono · 10/07/2007 11:05

hows everyone doing i still on track and feeling good too

ktmoomoo · 14/07/2007 15:33

ive lost 11lb and on track

marymoocow · 15/07/2007 22:10

week went downhill again, but still lost 1lb . Have had dd birthday party today, so lots of nibbly things to eat. Am determined to start again tomorrow though, as am off on holiday on Saturday, and want to lose another couple of pounds before i go. People are beginning to comment, and i am feeling a bit better about myself, so I WILL CONTINUE ( after i have finished off those crisps that are left in the dish ).

Hope everyone else is still doing fine, even if you are not posting anymore. Afraid i will still bore you from time to time.

marymoocow · 15/07/2007 22:10

Oh and well done ktmoomoo . A great achievement.

Countingthegreyhairs · 15/07/2007 22:28

May I please join or is it too late? Need to lose 10 kilos. Daren't post what I ate today. Starting in earnest tomorrow (and I really mean it this time but to get support from this thread would be great.

curiouscat · 16/07/2007 08:59

Happy Monday all. Hi Counting, welcome aboard and good luck with your new campaign.

Well done KT that's really inspiring.

I've been in hiding all last week as lost my nerve, went to boozy picnics etc and didn't dare fess up. But back now with salad packed lunch in the office, holiday in 3 weeks so something to concentrate my mind.

Not lost much weight plus my gym trial month expired and I'm not renewing till Sep. BUT will find a pool near my office hopefully.

marymoocow · 16/07/2007 09:37

Glad to see you back Curious Cat. Must have been the week for straying i think! Having said that i jumped on the scales this morning so that i could "start again" , and was rather suprised to say the least that i had lost another 3lbs since Wednesday. Not sure how i did it, as i have had dh birthday, and dd birthday this weekend (so lots of cakes etc.). So that's 9lbs in just over 3 weeks
Maybe will have to prepare myself for lots of hard work this week to keep it off - how long does it take for lots of chocolate cake to show up on the scales?

Welcome Counting. There's always room for one more here. And its never too late.

Here's to the week then folks. Got to be good this week, am off camping at the weekend for a week (maybe i'll regret losing the weight, could have done with the insulation to keep me warm ). Still at least i might be able to fit in my sleeping bag a bit better.

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/07/2007 13:25

Thanks for the welcome!

Here's to half a kilo (or pound) disappearing this week ...

Good luck everyone!

curiouscat · 16/07/2007 13:33

Hi again, sitting here at lunch chomping my salad and I KNOW I'm going to be hungry by 3pm. Still at least I'm healthy.

LOL marym at sleeping bag comment. I could use losing weight on my bum so can fit public transport seats without touching anyone else - I'm really not that fat, but feel it sometimes.

Well done marym with the loss, that's fab.

What kind of scales does anyone have? Mine aren't digital and seem quite erratic. Wondering whether to fork out on fat measuring ones or something instead but know it's a rip off.

Can't bear to think of the 2 stone I want to lose so will take it day by day.

curiouscat · 16/07/2007 14:31

The shame! I went to suss out my local pool at lunch time (after my salad/Ryvita lunch) and somehow found myself buying a Twix on the way back, I've eaten it and I'm still hungry.

marymoocow · 16/07/2007 19:18

don't worry. dd had 3 friends home from school for a birthday tea (sausage, chips and beans at her request). This was followed by more birthday cake and chocolate fingers forgotten from yesterdays family party. Needless to say i couldn't not have some of my dd cake could i? Would be rude not to i thought. Oh well, tomorrow............

Beginning to think of auditioning for Annie .

Dh cooking some pasta for me now with some peppers, spring onions, and mushroom. Bless him, i must look frazzled now the children have gone.

curiouscat · 17/07/2007 12:16

Hi again, today's gone well so far, 1 weetabix + berries (from allotment, smug smug), 1 apple snack.

I'm off swimming in my lunch hour now, wish me luck with those thrusting city men at lunch time, haven't dared before Bought a tiny pasta salad for lunch.

DH is away on business so at least I can eat whatever I like without watching him eat heaps of rich tasty food.

marymoocow · 17/07/2007 12:52

Hope you made sure you walked straight past the twix machine this time . Good on you for going. I still keep finding party stuff to pick at, which isn't good. I really have no willpower.

Oh well, my exercise is calling me for today - the pile of ironing that i have to do before we go away.

curiouscat · 17/07/2007 13:42

Hi marym, good luck with the ironing. Yes, I passed the sweet shop without going in this time.

On the party stuff, if you have to keep it around maybe you could put it out of sight/in a cupboard you're 'not allowed' to look in etc? That's what WW say to do, but I always hear it calling me

Countingthegreyhairs · 17/07/2007 13:43

Oh dear. This week is not going well. Dh away so no excuses. Although I'm eating less than I have been of late, I still indulge in sweet snacks, especially when dd is playing up. Bought mini-bag of Twixes (also my downfall) thinking that would be an improvement on standard size, but I just eat three at once.

What do you all do when you get the munchies? Cravings for sweet things (particularly after a meal) is a partic. prob. for me.

Also, finding it difficult to drink my eight glasses of water. Finding it difficult to get down.

Any tips anyone? Pleeeaasse.

marymoocow · 17/07/2007 14:38

I'm afraid its screaming at me, and it has to be eaten as we are going away (obviously it doesn't have to be eaten by me ). I am trying very hard not to undo all the hard work i have done over the last 4 weeks. Have lots to keep me busy over the next few days, so hopefully i won't have time to pick.

Ironing didn't get done as mother phoned.

Counting - as far as i am aware you can have flavoured water if that helps. Also try not to drink it all at once. I tend to have them when i feel peckish, and tell myself if i still feel hungry 5 minutes after that, then i can have something to eat. To be honest, most of the time i forget that i am feeling hungry at all.

hth

Countingthegreyhairs · 17/07/2007 20:25

Thanks MaryMC. I'll try that.

I'm going to be v. busy too over next three weeks so hoping they'll be some natural weight shedding.

Danger times is in evening, in front of telly, when dh is away. Trying to keep my hands busy doing patchwork or making bunting for dd's party instead. Chocolate and sewing projects do not go together well.

That's the theory anyway. Scales tell a different story

curiouscat · 18/07/2007 12:22

Hi counting, are you my unknown twin? I too tend to crave sweet things after supper, and have in the past started knitting to keep my hands occupied.

Dh away and I've been stuffing the chocolate bars in the evening instead of enjoying my small meals

I do find sugar free gum can help - it doesn't taste sweet for long but it's something. Also I have those Options lo-cal hot chocolate drinks, about 50 cal per mug so will add to weight gain, but less so than a chocolate bar.

On the drinking water, some say it's easier to drink if it's not chilled. I do manage my 2l a day but am always going to the loo. People say it settles down but I don't believe it
