Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

You can definitely do this and you’ve done so well so far!

I’ve just come out of a stall, thanks to some advice from honey, and what stopped me heading to the kitchen at the time was know how bloody hard it was to get this far.

And hopefully when I get to the next stumble I’ll get move advice on here and stop away from the kitchen

DottyDotAgain · 13/06/2018 16:11

Hi - I'm floundering a bit at the moment and was wondering if anyone else feels like I do when the weight loss starts being noticeable. So I've lost 32lbs and have started to get positive comments from people who have noticed (still a long way to go, obv!). But I really really don't like getting comments and it's usually what makes me then immediately stop losing weight and I put it all back on. This is about time no. 6 of trying and I really don't want this stage to set me back again.

Somehow mentally I can't cope with the thought of disappearing and people noticing? But I don't know why! I like getting into smaller clothes and I like looking a bit better, but part of me doesn't want to disappear and when people start commenting it makes me really nervous and worried, so I start eating more.

Help!! Confused

Wantacurry · 13/06/2018 16:16

I don't like it when people comment on my weight loss, even though it is well meaning.
As my negative side just thinks, so you were judging me on how fat I was before !

But I try and smile and say thank you, as I am sure people are meaning to encourage us, not put us off.

fezzesarecool · 13/06/2018 16:29

For me I didn’t want people to notice until I was confident that I was fully committed and I’ve only spoken about it when a few people have noticed.

I’m happier quite yet doing my thing, I think when people notice it’s great but puts a bit of pressure on which I don’t need. I’m doing this for me and although I’ve set some goals I’m also not on a deadline.

DottyDotAgain · 13/06/2018 16:33

Thanks - yes I think it's the pressure thing as well - and my terrible need to rebel, so that as soon as I get praise for anything at all, I tend to want to do the opposite Grin

B1rdonawire · 13/06/2018 17:16

Really interesting subject - just today at the school gate someone told me I was "disappearing" (I have just recently come out of my giant sweater camouflage...). I am choosing to translate this as "it bothers me that you are changing" because I do think that for some people who comment, it is because seeing someone succeed at something hard, is uncomfortable for them. There is a very good funny story by Jennifer Weiner called "Good in bed" which is not about sex, it's about a heroine who is fat, and the good and bad attitudes she encounters. When someone bitchy at work accuses her of losing weight, she responds "So what I'm hearing is that it's important to you that I always look the same?".

Naturally some people are just being nice, a bit clumsily, but my real friends would say "you look great, it must have been bloody hard work" which I find easier to respond to.

fezzesarecool · 13/06/2018 17:35

Wow lucky I’m on the weight loss train!

My work’s bringing in unitand the largest they go up to is a size 26, and I was 28 so how embarrassing to have to ask what to do.

Although weridly enough they do
Size 26
Size 24
Size 22
No size 20
Size 16-18
Size 12-14
Size 8-10
Size 4-6

I’m a 20! No point ordering the 22 and the 16-18 will be tight

fezzesarecool · 13/06/2018 17:56

*uniform (don’t know what’s going on with my phone!)

Reallylosingitthistime · 13/06/2018 17:57

What items if clothing is it and when will it be in? I would probably order a 16-18 and just pray it fits haha

fezzesarecool · 13/06/2018 18:12

T shirts and a fleece, I’ll order a big fleece but I don’t know for the tshirt.

Tbh I’m resenting having to order something that will be tight and I know I’ll be uncomfortable in 😞

Wantacurry · 13/06/2018 18:26

Tell work you are a size 20 and they will have to source a uniform in that size. Not your problem.

strawberrypig · 13/06/2018 22:35

How bizarre, there is a massive jump between size 17 (16-18) and size 22.

puppydogmummy · 13/06/2018 22:53

@Summersnake just want to say I'm a vegan too for same reasons! Yes when people say "but what do you eat?" I just look at them!!!! I've been going to SW and I find they are just starting to come round to being vegan friendly, but generally I just adapt recipes to suit. Generally tho I'm a one pot wonder as I'm only cooking for myself. If the family and I are eating together we share the same carbs (rice potatoes etc). Anyways just want to say I'm in same boat as you.

nicknamehelp · 13/06/2018 23:07

Dread to think what cal count is today but dd got through her op and is doing well hopefully home tomorrow. Ta for all your support

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/06/2018 23:10

fezzes I bet they've gone to one supplier for one set of sizes (e.g. 4 - 18) and have one for sizes 22-26.

No harm in asking for a 20 - if not, I'd probably go for a 22 to be comfy to begin with and then switch to a 16-18.

I've had a glorious day of coffee, old books and sushi. Ever so decadent Grin but so good for the soul.

nicknamehelp I hope dd is doing ok

Thanks everyone, I just can’t order the size 22. This is me being stupid but I promised myself that as I lost, any clothes would be clothes that fit and never any bigger. I’ve worked too hard and it’s part of me keeping my size in check.

Plus apparently it’s going to be difficult to reorder sizes.

I’ve got until the end of July to order uniform and I’ve got a size 18 Asda too that fits but is clingy around the waist. If that fits better then I can order the 16-18 and I’ll have to put up with it and keep it motivating me. If it doesn’t fit then Work will have to deal with it, and I should be allowed to wear something else until it does/they get their arse in gear.

I know I’m being difficult, but one reason that I put on was that I blindly guessed at sizes and ordered bigger things without really thinking/being aware that I was filling those sizes out more and more.

Clothes wise in general the plan was to keep one set of clothes at my biggest to keep me on track at maintenance. I’m thinking that whenever I reach my goal I need to give it 6 months to settle/maintain and they get rid of anything that is too big or too small. I think because of my body shape ideally for me is a 12-14, I’ve never been a size 10.

I’m pretty annoyed about the work uniform as now I’m putting myself until pressure to fit into it which is my own thought really.

Sorry, crazy morning thoughts today! Well done to anyone that understood that! 🤣

B1rdonawire · 14/06/2018 07:59

Hope DD has had a good night and you all get home as hoped today Nickname Brew Brew Brew in case it's been a long night.

Fezzes go gently on yourself. You could get the slightly larger size taken in, do you sew or does a friend? If you put the top on inside out, you can pin it to the right fitted shape, take it off then sew down the line. Will mean your uniform looks better than everyone else's though! A dry cleaner that does alterations would probably do it for you in five minutes Smile

fezzesarecool · 14/06/2018 08:04

B1rdonawire ooooh now that’s a good idea!

Ok plan A check a size 18 fit nearer the time
Plan B size 22 and get it take it

Ideal world if I had longer would be get the size 16-18 and get that taken it as it’s looking like one you order that won’t be issuing anymore for a long long time!

fezzesarecool · 14/06/2018 08:13

Shit end of June to order and have to wear it by the end of July

BreakingSad · 14/06/2018 09:01

nickname glad Dd doing well , hope you get to take her home today.

moonlight1705 · 14/06/2018 10:38

nickname so glad your DD is doing well, must be a bit of a relief at the moment.

nicknamehelp · 14/06/2018 11:01

Giving myself today off and back on it tomorrow.

Dd is doing well and will hopefully be home later.

AnotherOtter · 14/06/2018 11:35

Brilliant news about your daughter, Nickname. What a relief. Bollocks to the calorie count when you had that stress to get through. Just get straight back on it tomorrow though. Hope she's safely home as soon as possible Thanks

Interesting to see the cg images of weight loss. I wish I was as smooth and lump-free as the model!

B1rd, I've seen posters have photos removed from posts so it can be done. Image searching has come a long way so make sure you scrub out identifying details if you don't want to be outed. I see other posters post photos of themselves in their underwear with their faces shown and I don't think they realise how easily that could zip around facebook or whatsapp, etc. Good luck with the physio.

Cagliostro, perhaps it would be better to aim to maintain during this stressful period? Hang in there, it will be worth it once it's over Thanks

Summer, you've had some great advice here. Jump in! You don't need to have a perfect plan or do everything at once to start. You can learn and adjust as you go.

Dotty, I totally get what you mean about other people commenting on weight. I hate it and wish it was a blanket rule that no one commented on what other people looked like ever! But some people really do like comments - see them as compliments - and some people do seem to be genuinely well meaning. I think you do just have to grit your teeth, say "thanks" and have some backup plans on how to change the subject. There were some lists last week (I think) on reasons why people are losing weight which I found inspiring and motivating. Perhaps have a look back and write your own list?

Fezzes, I think B1rd's idea of getting a 22 altered is a winner. Plus who knows how true to size any of these uniforms actually are without trying them on first. I think most people are wearing a range of sizes these days as the shops are just at it.

Storm Hector is blowing a hoolie here but fingers crossed it decimates the midgie population! I'm trying to keep on the straight and narrow before my summer holiday and feel myself rebelling a bit. What do you folk do if you're just a bit pissed off with dieting?
