Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Just a pound off this week. But as I've been away for the weekend I'm actually ok with that as before it would've been at least 2lb on.

Re-focus for this week!

So;

1lb this week,
5lbs down
105lbs to go!

Scarlettwaffle · 16/07/2018 10:40

Hi everyone - I think I need to join for some motivation. I have about 100lbs to lose (that will get me just inside a healthy bmi range, so more would be better)
I’ve always been overweight - and every time I’ve done ww/sw etc, I’ve put it all back on plus more, so I want to do something different this time. I have a young toddler, work full time in a desk job and find fitting everything in difficult.... it’s so easy to make excuses! Thing is, I know I feel better when I eat better/get more active, I just can’t seem to get my arse in gear!
I’ve been making excuses for months now... had an extension so had no kitchen to cook for weeks, broke my toe so can’t exercise etc... I’m a perfectionist so I tell myself I’ll only start when x/y/z so that I can do everything “right”.
I’ll rtft at some point to hopefully pick up some tips, but you’ve all done so well, I’m hoping to catch some of your enthusiasm!

EmilyOfThrones · 16/07/2018 11:04

Good Morning all.

I've been lurking around for a while and have decided to join in with that chat.
There's no excuse for my weight, I just enjoy eating rubbish.
I'm only 5'2 so I look like a bowling ball lol.
I want to lose weight to be happy and healthy and be a better role model for my children.
I'm currently calorie counting and have been walking a bit more.
Starting weight 16.8
Current weight 15.11
Loss 11lbs
Goal 10/11

I'm not sure what goal weight I would like, to be fair I just want to be happy with the way I look.
I look forward to chatting with you all. Smile

honeysucklejasmine · 16/07/2018 11:10

Well done on the losses all. Welcome Scarlett

NSV today. I put on a pair of size 16 jeans. And did them up. I then swapped them for a size 16 skirt because it's warm here today. Size 16!!!!

BreakingSad · 16/07/2018 12:38

Well done Honey great nsv.

Congratulations callmesausage

Welcome to all the newbies, I have so much catching up to do on this thread.

Thanks for the new total Notractors that's fantastic, well done everyone.

Notanurse hope your recovery is going well Thanks

I did weigh in on Friday and had lost 1 lbs, AF arrived this weekend and now feel like I've gained 3 lbs and lost all my energy.

B1rdonawire · 16/07/2018 13:15

Well done Sausage and Basement that's great!

Welcome new folk, I recognise myself in many of those "I'll just sort out X and then I'll start..." thought patterns. I was about ten months into this weight loss process before I did any exercise whatsoever, to be honest with you. I think partly I couldn't manage two changes at once, partly I was shy, and partly I had so little energy due to weight that I just couldn't get started. It didn't stop the weight slowly but surely coming off, and then like many others on this thread, I started C25k and to my utter shock, stuck with it and finished it Grin This morning out running I bumped into an old neighbour who gawped a bit and said "I didn't expect to see you out here doing that" which was fair comment really, I didn't expect me to be able to do it either! But there's a kind of joy in seeing what my body can do now, compared to the state it was in a year ago. I've got a fair way yet to go, but that's OK.

Good luck with day 1, this group is fab for moral support and encouragement.

Honeysuckle excellent work on the clothing size, bet that felt good!

Reallylosingitthistime · 16/07/2018 18:43

Swimwear.... mine was all to big so a quick dash to Tesco to find something to wear to take my dc swimming and I have to recommend.... they currently have some one piece costumes with a bit of ruching that are so flattering and sculpting! £16 each and in black, navy, patterns and some bold colours. I went with bold as currently have a bit of a tan but was so impressed and equally NSV here... pleased I got my butt easily into a 16!

MindBodyChocolate · 16/07/2018 19:00

Hi all, I'm on the "lose 5 stone by Xmas" thread, so hope I can join here too! My target weight loss is 7 stone exactly (98lbs).

Here are my stats:

Starting weight 18.13
Current weight 18.0
Loss 13lbs
Goal 11.13

I'm low carbing - no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc. Trying to keep to lower fructose fruits. No fruit juices, anything biscuity, cakey etc.
Tons of veggies and lean proteins.

So far so good - I was practically addicted to bread (I'd easily 6 slices of toast with butter in one go - sometimes just as a snack, not even breakfast!) and it just made me hungrier. I've gone for nearly 2 weeks now without any bread and I'm bloody proud of myself.

honeysucklejasmine · 16/07/2018 19:28

Hi Mind, welcome aboard! I'm also a toast addict. The real trouble for me is that the stuff I put on it! Even just a bit of spread and marmite is pretty high calorie (I'm calorie counting) but it's so delicious!

Going to go on my last "run" of the first C25K week this evening. Need to chase up my shoe order too. Did go look round shops today but forgot outlet center doesn't open till 10, and I was there at 9 whilst my car was MOTed. Oops. Will pop by another day.

AdventuresRUs · 17/07/2018 10:49

Hello ! I havent posted in a couple of weeks (was ScaredPAD) as really felt I'd lost the control I had on my eating/wasnt tracking, general dissatisfaction with life :( I havent read up thread so will read in a moment just thought I wont procrastinate posting anymore!

Weighed this morning and I'm 17st12
Starting weight 18st 13.
15lb in 12 weeks ... I need to start losing again!

So Ive lost from last week but it went up last week (period!) So probably just evened out. Im not doing brilliantly! First 8 weeks was ace and Im worried Im struggling already. But will be back on it.

On the plus side I've swam a mile! Twice! So fitness is improving.

Will read up in a mo!

honeysucklejasmine · 17/07/2018 13:18

Adventures are you measuring too? My weight loss is going very slowly this last fortnight but I have gone down a dress size. Always worth measuring.

ChickenFriedMice · 17/07/2018 16:29

Can I join please? I've rtft and I'm feeling very inspired!

I've been looking at weight loss surgery and tbh it scares me so much. I was diagnosed with binge eating disorder last year and had a brief stint of therapy which I found useful but I'm bigger than ever (go figure!)

I weight almost 24st and I'm a size 26 but if I'm honest those have started feeling tight.

I've started moving more recently as I'm really sedentary, the dc are enjoying walks with me Smile I've sweated buckets today doing some intense housework, I figure I might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

I'll weigh myself properly tonight and report back with official figures Grin

fezzesarecool · 17/07/2018 17:00

Welcome to all the newbies

ChickenFriedMice You’re braver than me, I was too scared to go on my scales to get a official starting weight and relied on the Doctors ones from old appointments

strawberrypig · 17/07/2018 19:55

So many new people, welcome all, really lovely to have more on board the losers bus!

I've knackered my back so having to rely on DH to cook tonight, bit worried it is going to be stupidly calorific Confused I have just seen a chorizo leave the fridge, this is my biggest weakness and one of the reasons I got so big. I can't even work it off (back went hula hoopingBlush) so I may just declare it a cheat day, have a large glass of wine to relax my muscles and start again tomorrow. The recipe he is using is from the hairy dieters so not that bad I guess.

On a positive note, I made the most amazing discovery last night. I have been trying to find the perfect curry recipe to combat Indian take away cravings and I think I have cracked it.

I did my usual, sweated off onion, garlic, ginger and chilli, then browned chicken ( or lamb, chick peas etc) and dumped in some turmeric, Gara masala, cumin, coriander, chilli powder etc. Then added pasatta and chicken stock and then (what turned out to be) the magic ingredient - frozen lumps of butternut squash. I added them to add bulk but after 30 minutes of simmering and a stir they disintegrated into the sauce.... and not only thickened it but made it taste just like butter chicken. DH said it was better than the Indian restaurant!

honeysucklejasmine · 17/07/2018 20:32

Oooh strawberry, sounds lovely!

Welcome chicken!

I bought trainers today. Went to the Outlet center and got myself some ASICS. They are pretty and were nice and cheap too.

B1rdonawire · 17/07/2018 21:01

I like Asics, mine are lasting really well too - hope they help you continue enjoying yourself!

It has been a long, long day here but I think it might be slightly cooler...

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 17/07/2018 21:27

Hello to all new losers, glad you're joining the rest of us losers!

Quick stop in tonight just to keep me on track - off to bed shortly, as I can't stop yawning Blush.

Just finished doing some budgeting (which might explain the yawning!) - how have people found their change in lifestyle affect their shopping bills? Mine haven't seen much of a change - I'm certainly buying fresher and a wider variety, but the cost doesn't seem to change that much, even at Aldi prices (and the very occasional Waitrose trip). Think I need to take a closer look at that...but not tonight, because I need my bed Grin.

OP posts:
MindBodyChocolate · 18/07/2018 09:55

The cost of my shopping hasn’t changed too much because while the fish and chicken I’m now buying isn’t cheap, I’m not buying the tons of bread, pastries, cheese, butter, biscuits etc that I used to stock up on.

I do buy a lot of veg and fruit but we get this from greengrocers (fortunate to have a very good one within walking distance) so while we might spend a lot there, there’s almost no wastage at all and I’m happy to spend it on food that’s actually doing us good.

ChickenFriedMice · 18/07/2018 12:07

I didn't get chance to weigh in last night, am I right in saying most of you weigh on a Friday? I'll wait and go with the majority of
so.

For those of you a fair way into your journey can you give us newbies any advice?

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 18/07/2018 13:23

Chicken Just weigh whenever - I tend to weigh in at the weekend when I have more time in the mornings, but there aren’t any rules about it.

I’m not sure I’m the best person for advice, but two things I’ve found helpful are avoiding any weight or food related threads in Chat or AIBU - they are almost never constructive and are almost guaranteed to make me feel shit about myself. I don’t deserve that!

The other is to not fall into the trap of thinking what works for one person will work for you - e.g. it’s often spouted that you lose a lot of weight quickly if you’re very fat and dieting. Not true for me - I’ll never get a massive loss over one week, but it all adds up in dribs and drabs. Work out what works best for you and how your body feels when you’re doing it - I really suffered trying low carb, so as much as it works for some, it isn’t right for me.

One extra one! I think just about everyone on here has experienced a ‘dip’ at some point where it is just really hard work and the scales aren’t budging. It happens. Most important thing is to take stock, make any adjustments if needed, and keep going!

Hopefully some wiser advice will come along soonWink

strawberrypig · 18/07/2018 13:40

What sort of diet are you planning to do Chicken? I think we have most covered here!

My biggest bit of advice is to make sure you never feel deprived and be really mindful of your food.

I make sure when I am eating that I put my cutlery down between mouthfuls so that I am not shovelling food in. It's too easy to eat too much if you don't give your stomach a chance to say it's full.

Try not to get hungry, if you are hungry you tend to make bad food choices. If you are calorie counting try and leave an allowance for snacks.

Slow and steady wins the race! Try not to crash diet, it will kill your metabolism and after a while it will slow your weight loss down and make putting the weight back on more likely.

Use technology - there are some brilliant apps out there. My fitness pal, lose it etc.

Try not to substitute a 'hack' for something you are craving. I think it is better to have a small portion of something not so healthy than trying to match the amount you ate before in "healthier" foods. A frozen muller light is not the same as a Ben and Jerry's and is full of sugar still. IMO either have a small portion of ice cream once in a while or find something else entirely.

There are some great food blogs around with some fabulous recipes. I am a real foodie and love cooking so find the days I cook easier than the days I don't. Highly flavoured food really satisfies!

Do make sure you have a balanced diet, it's amazing how many large people are under nourished! There are many people who are obese as their bodies are craving the right nutrients and so they are hungry all the time. Try and listen to your body, sweet cravings can often be your body saying it wants some fruit for vitamin c, for instance.

Find the thing that makes you happy about dieting. I think it is a different thing for everyone. I have a series of mini targets so that I feel I am achieving success regularly.

Make sure you measure yourself! I find that the weeks I don't lose lbs are the weeks that I lose inches.

Celebrate every NSV (non scale victory). This could be going down a dress size, being able to walk up the stairs without panting, finding sex better as you get more flexible---- or even just choosing an apple instead of a bar of chocolate and not feeling down about it.

Last, but not least, a gin and slimline has 70 calories, a banana has 120. Make your choices carefully GrinWine

Sorry, wrote an essay and Tractor wrote it all a lot better in one paragraph.Blush

nicknamehelp · 18/07/2018 17:14

Hi all I know I've been missing for a few weeks but I've not been in a good place emotionally. I've put some weight on but only a few pounds so not all bad. I'm feeling ready to get back on it.

fezzesarecool · 18/07/2018 17:26

nicknamehelp Well done for getting back on it, remember 1 year is 365 opportunities!

I had a bit of a stall emotional wise a few weeks back and like you, drew a line and moved onwards and downwards

ChickenFriedMice · 18/07/2018 20:46

Thanks so much for those tips! Excellent advice. As I've got BED I'm trying to avoid following any sort of "diet" in the official sense as it will just end up like it always has done. I'm planning on rarely snacking, eating loads more fresh whole foods and exercising much more.

We've been going on walks after tea for almost a week now and we are all really enjoying it. It helps that dh wants to get fitter too, feels nice that we can do it together.
