Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

honeysucklejasmine, I don't think you need anything special or expensive as your running shoes initially.

I have a decathlon store near me. I had a £20 pair or trainers that saw me through my "100 Miles of Dog Walks in March" and then C25K start to finish.

The important thing is that they fit you properly. Consider going up half a size so your toes have plenty of space to spread out as you plant your foot when running. Make sure you can tie them up snuggly around your ankle so they don't move.

Also get some good running socks that hold moisture away from the skin. This should avoid blisters.

Reallylosingitthistime · 14/07/2018 19:37

I know what I have suggested are expensive but if you look in Nike sale you can pick them up for £30-£40ish in old colours

FATEdestiny · 14/07/2018 19:49

I bought the attached as my first running shoes. I then treated myself to a £50 new pair of trainers once I was running 5K every day.

honeysucklejasmine · 14/07/2018 21:28

Wow Tractors!

PostNotInHaste · 14/07/2018 21:30

It’s a pleasure to Hang out with you bunch of big losers Grin Thanks for doing that Tractors

notanurse2017 · 14/07/2018 21:45

Hello everyone. I'm back! Will catch up with thread tomorrow but thank you for all the good wishes. Am finally feeling much better after 2 operations in one day (one of which turned into major abdominal surgery), huge blood loss, and other things that went wrong. I look terrible, have awful scars and am still tired and sore but this has taught me never to take good health for granted. I am so pleased that I was in a good place health wise before all this, I honestly think that if I had been at my heaviest I would still be in hospital dtrugito walk and heal.

And so proud of being a loser! Well done everyone.

fezzesarecool · 14/07/2018 23:02

Meant to say earlier, I forgot who it was asking about the mfp predictions but mine was spot on again.

Normally I check the predictions for a week to see what the average of it is and then put a post it in my journal. Then after five weeks and do it again.

I think the only time it hasn’t is when I had my 3 week stall.

Interestingly enough the initial mfp prediction for my goal weight matches the other online calculators I’ve tried, give or take a few weeks. Those days are in the journal too so we’ll see.

fezzesarecool · 14/07/2018 23:06

*I meant the mfp goal weight prediction I originally put in matches up to other goal weight predictions calculatiors I’ve played around with today.

PostNotInHaste · 15/07/2018 07:34

Oh NotaNurse you poor thing, that sounds absolutely awful FlowersFlowersFlowers Thank goodness you had lost the weight and did all that exercise. Take care xxx

notanurse2017 · 15/07/2018 08:15

Week: 81
Weight lost:6 ib
Overall weight loss: 90 ibs
To go: umm not sure, another 36 lbs, probably more, but we will see how it goes.

notanurse2017 · 15/07/2018 08:24

Thank you PostNot, how are things with you? I think that you have an operation coming up?

There are some amazing losses on this thread over the last few weeks.

IFartGlitter - what a vile, horrible man. Hope that the dickhead hasn't put you off all your hard work.

Honeysuckle - how is your baby?

NoTractors - really sorry to hear that the job isn't what you hoped it would be. Have you an escape strategy?

Still catching up with all the news so apologies if I am way behind in my questions!

PostNotInHaste · 15/07/2018 08:25

I guess the loss is a very slight silver lining and brings the end closer in sight NotaNurse . I think a few of us will find the end point a bit flexible as hard to know when you're bigger how you'll be, likely waist measurement etc.

Think I mentioned before but having had a long chat with pharmacist I think it's probably going to be another stone for me as my BP still higher than it should be I thought I might need to just accept I'll always be on meds for it but she was very optimistic that I will be able to come off. Not trying to reduce further until things calm down a bit in autumn and I'm not saying to people I'm planning to lose another stone as they get a bit hysterical about it.

honeysucklejasmine · 15/07/2018 08:36

Loss this week: 0.50lbs Sad
Total loss: 59.25lbs
Still to lose: 43.50lbs

Bit annoyed at the tiny loss this week espescially as I was weighing a pound less yesterday but looking back at my graph it does seem to be cyclical. Frustrating though.

I've recalculated my calorie allowance. Koko.

B1rdonawire · 15/07/2018 09:36

Weighed a day early as going out for lunch today and I have managed to turn the tide, yay! 2.5lbs off, so that's undone my two weeks of gaining a pound, plus a bit more in the right direction. I really don't do well in hot weather and I think I'd been kidding myself about the comfort eating in the heat.

Well done to everyone who's had a loss. Tractors great that you're on the move downwards again, I think you and I have had matching "stuck" phases!

Lovely to have you back Notanurse but sorry you had a really rough time. Hope your recovery is good now Thanks

Post I have blood pressure issues too, it's going in the right direction but very slowly...

notanurse2017 · 15/07/2018 09:52

B1rdonawire well done on the loss!

I have high blood pressure too and am on medication for it - my GP thinks that I might be able to come off it soon though.

honeysucklejasmine, a loss is a loss, well done.

ChestyNut · 15/07/2018 09:58

This week- 2lb 8oz lost
Total- 59lb 8oz
To lose- 40lb 8oz

Bmi has dropped from 48 to 38 and very obese to obese Grin

notanurse glad your ok now.

Tractors wow! We are a massive bunch of losers.

Welcome to the new posters Flowers

AnotherOtter · 15/07/2018 09:58

STS this week (well, lost 0.2lbs...) but saw quite a lot higher weights during the week which have come down. Think I probably did gain more than a pound during my holiday and last week had just spiked low. Would have been nice to lose but alright with STS as finding going up to 1700 calories a lot easier than 1600. It's strange that just 100 calories makes such a difference. I also had a day of maintenance this week too. Did my first ever Parkrun and got a PB Grin (Don't look up my posts as I literally just made the same joke on a running thread!) I am really proud of myself that I managed it as I am not good with crowds (or people full stop) or going outside of my routine but the people really were lovely.

Welcome back, notanurse. So sorry to hear of what a terrible time you've had Thanks I hope you make a smooth, uneventful recovery from now on.

Well done to those who have lost and more Thanks to those who are struggling. KOKO.

FATEdestiny · 15/07/2018 10:01

I struggled with weight loss in the heat too. I definitely wasn't eating more and my exercise always increases in intensity week on week as I get fitter. Yet I'd gone from 6 months of losing 3-4lb every week to 3 weeks of 0.5-1lb loss when the weather hot really got.

Last weekend fitbit emailed me an interesting article. I wonder if they use your data to personalise the articles they send out? Because this was very relevant- called 'why it's sometimes necessary to eat more to lose weight'

I've always run a substantial calorie deficit, eating 800-1000 cal and using 2500-2900 with 45-90 mins of high intensity exercise every day. Incidentally I've been physically fine on this deficit, with having plenty of fat to lose.

The article talked about how your metabolism can drop if you start consuming fewer calories than the minimum your body needs to function. So instead of you dropping dead, your body saves energy and your metabolism goes down.

I wonder if, given my long-term low calorie intake, that when it got hot my body didn't have the calorie resources to function in the heat so my metabolism went down.

No idea if this is scientifically feasible or not, but struck me as logical. This week I have increased my calorie intake by 200-500cal per day to 1000-1300 and my rate of weight loss is back up to 3lb this week.

So I am indeed eating more (healthy more though - I've added in more protein and carbs to my breakfast, eaten after exercise) and as a result I'm losing weight more quickly. Very counter intuitive, but the article was spot on.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 15/07/2018 10:41

FATE that definitely makes sense to me - my metabolism practically stops dead if I go too low. It's such a fine balance.

fezzes how interesting! I've never really paid much heed to the predictions, but now I'm back on track, I think I'll give it a shot.

notanurse I was just about to message you to see how you were getting on. How scary, but so pleased you're on the mend.

Post that reminds me that I could do with a chat with my pharmacist - hope the BP settles and you can come off the meds in the future.

B1rd well done - and yes, I think we were 'dip' buddies - here's to climbing out of that! Also to honey and chesty

Well done on the PB Another Grin

Phew! Today is much cooler here, so I'm off out for a quick power walk blast, and then will reward myself by watching the tennis later Smile.

Grin Otter, excellent ! Glad it was a positive experience. I know they can vary a bit between the different Parkruns but ours definitely has a very friendly atmosphere and I love how it brings people together. Yesterday was me, DH, my dog walking friend, DS’s friend with his brother and Dad. A very mixed bunch of people but good time had by all. I think when we’re at where we’re at with our loss that there is a fair amount of variation, well there certainly is for me .

Well done Honeysuckle. I know it can be disappointing when it’s slower than you want but it all adds up and some people do lose depending where they are in cycle. You’ll have a week soon where you lose more than anticipated.

Brilliant Chesty , doesn’t seem 2 mins ago when you reached half way, now nearly 60% of the way there. 10 BMI points down is excellent.

FATE. I think there is a fair amount of individual variation with this but think you have a good point. My understanding which might be wrong is that if your body isn’t feeling it’s getting enough to run all essential functions them it will shut down some non essentials - which is why some people find their periods go weird, nails stop growing and hair loss can occur. Allegedly the hair loss etc doesn’t occur immediately but is seen about 6 weeks after. I guess the temperatures are putting a lot of extra strain on our bodies (some very slim friends have been struggling on walks) so to cope with extra stress it goes into a go slow. We often hold excess water in the heat where our hearts are working harder and see swelling in ankles, fingers etc as a result, it goes once the stress reduced. So I guess by eating more you’ve taken the pressure off so to speak.

Tractors I found the pharmacist very helpful. Was a bit Hmm when she said she wanted a word butbpleased in the end she did. Think I need to get off arse and walk for a bit, have clocked up less than 500 steps so far today in attempt to harness my inner sloth.

honeysucklejasmine · 15/07/2018 12:42

AnotherOtter it took me an embarrassingly long time to get your joke. Blush

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 15/07/2018 21:57

Setting myself up for a good week - did a massive aubergine/mushroom/lentil chilli 'thing' in the slow cooker, so that's a good few meals sorted. Really tasty, if a little sloppy, and goes well with some sweet potato and salad.

Meal plan done, shopping arriving tomorrow, and all of tomorrows meals already in the fridge, bloody hell I'm feeling smug Grin Grin

Hope you're all having a pleasant evening, and that next week is onwards and downwards for everyone! Smile
