Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

ChristmasTablecloth the more the merrier!

Its funny how at school I hated all sports, I have no hand to eye co-ordination and zero skills in running.

I tried the C25K but hated every minute of it and it didn't even help with the weight loss at the time. I've now found that my type of sport are the power ones, I am good at taekwondo, excellent at boxing etc

I joined Taekwondo weighing nearly 21st and now at 20st, people haven't made any nasty comments but helped me get into it slowly and carefully - I love the group and will be doing it for the forseeable future. I even told the instructor I am pregnant and she is already planning on a mini dobok for the baby Grin

In a long rounded way I am trying to say that I assumed that I was rubbish at sports but that is because I hadn't found 'my' thing.

AnotherOtter · 10/07/2018 11:10

Great losses and NSVs Smile

Telling myself that I can stop after the next five minutes is exactly what I do as well, B1rd. I find the first half of the run a lot harder than the second despite Strava (app that maps where you are running) telling me I am going faster in the second half. Overcoming the psychological stuff is a major part of running! My favourite part now is the attempt at a sprint finish at the end knowing that I will finish but how fast can I go... think I am getting a wee taste of the endorphins then.

Hang in there, Cagliostro Thanks Things will improve once you're in your new house.

Welcome BasementJacks. You've made a great start.

Exercising in public was a major step for me too, fezzes. It took me months to work up to running in my local park. I am very glad I did and I haven't had any nasty comments or noticed people staring. Well done for making that first step and hope you love it.

Good for you, honey. C25K has really changed my life and I am still shocked at how well it works. There is definitely some magic in it. (Science counts as magic!) Don't think being big busted is a barrier to running in itself as long as you get a good quality sports bra. Shock Absorbers are often recommended on here but they don't go large enough for me so got a brand called Royce at Bravissimo which works well with no movement.

o/ ChristmasTablecloth

Very wise words, moonlight, about finding a sport that you enjoy.

BreakingSad · 10/07/2018 14:44

I'm another one who hated long distance running at school, I was a sprinter and high jumper. It's definitely a mind over matter with running, but also agree, you have to enjoy what you do or you won't sustain long term. Find your thing.

I'm sat in Costa having a cup of tea (waiting for car MOT to be done) and feel proud of myself that I didn't go for a hot chocolate with all the trimmings. Which as I visit rarely is what I would chose. Just feels like a little win Smile

ChristmasTablecloth · 10/07/2018 14:46

Thanks for saying hello Smile. I don't qualify to join in but have been reading since the start in the hope of being inspired to tackle my excess 2.5 stone. Some of you have done amazingly well and are such a good source of support for each other. It's a great thread but I'll stay in the shadows admiring you from a distance ...

strawberrypig · 10/07/2018 15:22

BreakingSad it's the little wins that give the big wins, baby steps and all that!

fezzesarecool · 10/07/2018 20:09

Eek, clubercise woman called me back I am on for next Wednesday 😄

Evenmycurveshavecurves · 11/07/2018 00:13

Oh! I have found my people. Hello :)

I've put off loosing weight for years. Long story short; my fat has always been my excuse. I blame all my problems on the fat so I don't have to face them.
But now my life is kind of in a good place and it's stable and I've finally figured I just need to get a grip and face the fear.

Aiming to lose half my body weight! Which is a gulp whopping 147lbs to lose. So no pressure.

I'm planning to follow slimming world and also increase my exercise as well. I have a sedentary job and I sleep a lot so a total routine overhall is basically needed really.

I'm hoping to be out of my size 24s and into the 14s in the next two years!

Chimineycricket · 11/07/2018 07:34

Hello,
I reckon I have 90-96lbs to lose which is a bit under the thread title. I've held onto this excess weight for a really loooooonng time so think the experiences of people here are most suited to me.

I'm not in a great place in all areas of my life. There are positives - physically: am week 3 of nhs couch to 5 k, foodwise: mostly home cooking, lifestyle: about to go away with kids for few weeks. But i am so erratic and some days are carb-food filled with constant grazing and no exercise - can't get any discipline or rhythm going. Most days I'm going to bed late and using social media as avoidance and to switch off so poor sleep and further hormone disruption ( have a thyroid condition).
emotionally my relshkp with husband falling apart, unemployment and financial problems so yes, huge stressors there but they trigger older patterns of comfort eating (some people go thinner with those issues ) so they're not the underlying cause of being so heavy. not ignorant of nutrition, meditstion techniques, how to exercise Just feel so depleted I dont know where to start!

Writing all this out for 1st time has helped with some perspective. Thanks for reading. Onwards and upwards..well downwards on the weight front!!

Callmesausage · 11/07/2018 07:46

Welcome Evenmy and Chiminey and good luck. You both sound like you’re in the right mindset to do well and this thread offers loads of support.

fezzesarecool · 11/07/2018 07:47

Evenmycurveshavecurves Welcome, I had similar starting stats to you

You can definitely do this and this is such a great thread for support

fezzesarecool · 11/07/2018 07:49

Chimineycricket Welcome too!

B1rdonawire · 11/07/2018 08:01

I bet next Weds will be great Fezzes you can do it!

Big welcome to Evenmycurves and Chimney - I slowly, slowly realise this is a head-game, as well as a long path, but we can all do it together. I hope today is a good day for you, one choice at a time. I'm having a wobbly patch (haha every day is a wobbly patch if a I jump up and down!) but this group is keeping me trying, keeping me thinking, and basically keeping me going.

fezzesarecool · 11/07/2018 08:05

B1rdonawire Definitely agree with you, it’s the mental stuff that’s the hardest part of the journey

Actually before I joined this thread I was tempted to join SW, phoned them up etc but I was embarrassed that it’s a local group and I knew I would be the heaviest one there I like that this thread we’re in the same boat from a starting point

fezzesarecool · 11/07/2018 08:24

Hmmm new staff uniform arriving soon. I’ll have to wear it on the 29th.

So currently in a size 20, that is just starting to feel a bit baggy. I ordered a 16-18 as they didn’t do a size 20. Also it sounds like it’s pretty much impossible to reorder/exchange. So being pig headed I refused to order bigger and had to go for smaller as my current size was available.

This is going to be interesting 😫 Must not let this affect my mojo

Wantacurry · 11/07/2018 13:06

Another NSV, just wanted to note it down somewhere people understood.

My BMI has dropped from starting point of morbidly obese (48) down to obese (39.4)! A step in the right direction.

I am hoping to be into overweight (29.9) by March 2019 !

honeysucklejasmine · 11/07/2018 13:58

Welcome newbies! Good luck, check in regularly!

Excellent nsv Want! Incredible change. I must go and check mine. It was 41 when I booked in with midwife for DS in Feb 2017 ish, down from 43.5 at my start point. It's now 34. Oooh, that's nice. Slim enough to give birth on the Maternity Led Unit (limit is 35). What a shame I'm not having any more babies! 😂😂

I did week 1 run 1 of C25K yesterday. Except I'm speed walking, not running. Covered 2.6km during the half hour. Went out again with my next door neighbour and the pushchairs, did another 3.6km. Not finding it too onerous yet. Next door is keen to do C25K too but running. Not sure I'm up to that yet!

moonlight1705 · 11/07/2018 14:39

Nice one Want that must feel so good to be officially only obese if you know what I mean

honey I was booked in by the midwife the other day with a BMI of 44. The student midwife got my weight and started trying to work out the BMI which I told her roughly.....the main midwife said "Oh well at least you are being realistic about it, some people don't even realise that they are obese!"
If we ever had a 2nd one then I want to be under that golden 35 BMI so I can do midwife led unit.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 11/07/2018 19:01

Oooh lots of chat! Have to pop out shortly, so won't name check you all, but I am reading everything!

I'm doing quite well this week - lots of bright fresh salads with some roasted chicken and a smoosh of avocado, and lots of coriander. Tasty!

Will be back tomorrow to catch up properly.

Thanks B1rdonawire and others for the nice welcome. Yes, it was an ok day. I'm going to get a new sports bra at weekend so can move onto week 4 longer jogs without knocking out a fellow pedestrian with swinging bosom! .
My trainers are also ancient (holes & wire on heel bit digging in) but can't afford a good, new pair.
Given the impact of being 17 stones and running I am concerned about buying cheap pair with inadequate cushioning. Going to check out the sales.

strawberrypig · 12/07/2018 10:28

I just jumped on the scales for a mid week weigh-in (who am I kidding, I weigh every dayGrin) and I've lost 2lbs over night. I love it when your hormone induced water retention goes!

More importantly that takes me to 20lbs off, that means I am a fifth of the way to target and I only have to do this another four times!

I think I may have lost another pound from the mini victory dance I have just done - da da da da da da daaa, da da da da da da da, tequila!

honeysucklejasmine · 12/07/2018 14:33

Well done strawberry! Onwards and downwards!

fezzesarecool · 12/07/2018 17:16

Super brave today, spoke to dd’s dance teacher and am signed up for a try of tap class come September Shock

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 12/07/2018 19:12

Chimney I definitely need a new sports bra - I have a fab minimiser one from M&S for daywear, but it's not substantial enough for activity. You might want to check Decathlon for shoes - I got a cheap pair from there and they are doing pretty well so far, but I know I'll need to upgrade at some point this year as I get more active/bouncier.

Loving your victory dance strawberry, and like honey says, onwards and downwards!

fezzes check you out! Very impressed - I have no coordination for dance but actually quite tempted by an adult ballet class Blush. Apparently it's really good for your core and I want legwarmers

Good day today - I don't even get offered sweets/cakes/assorted crap at work now, which makes it so much easier to stay out of a snacking habit during the work day. I have numerous water refills but no caffeine and no shit. It's really helped me get motivated again, as I already have these easy sustainable habits in place, so just have to build on them. However....I will happily staple the next person who says 'oooh look at your will power' Hmm - don't recall asking your opinion, love! Grin

NoTractorsAtTheTable Lol no co ordination here but just want tap shoes!

Also, maybe, big maybe, it would be quite a achievement and special way to celebrate my weight loss being being in a dance show with my dd

The kids are my big inspiration for doing this journey
