Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4

Hello, welcome to the fourth instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost 869 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing! Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Scared, I have been dieting off and on for years with my highest weight, that I know of, in 2005. I'm pretty sure it went higher but I didn't weigh myself. Lost four stone by crash dieting and gave myself bulimia and then binge eating disorder which my psychologist told me is not an uncommon consequence of crash dieting. Gained a stone back (a third of bulimics gain weight) and maintained that roughly for ten years. Then in September 2016 I tried again and lost two stone or so but life turned to shit and regained three stone (!!). Was still am very upset about that. This current attempt started in July 2017 and I have lost six and a bit stone in total with another one to go. I joined the thread in the autumn after lurking for ages. Had a lot of support here over the months for which I am very grateful. My current dieting method is the same as Honey's but I'm not as organised as her with all the recipes in MFP. Got about twenty recipes in there and trying to encourage myself to be more adventurous and try more. Still have treats but never extend it more than one meal or snack is a rule I try to stick to. I make an effort to reward myself with stuff other than food too. There's a series of posts where the regulars give their top tips a few pages back which might be worth finding.

B1rd, week 2 was pretty good for me I think. I am doing the runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and I know I am exceptionally lucky that I can fit them in then. Did run 1 of week 3 yesterday which had three minute runs and they went surprisingly well once I found a good rhythm. It's very tough before finding that rhythm though I find. Hope the hay fever settles and the stressful situation at your children's school resolves Thanks Maybe folk on here might have some advice?

That's a very busy weekend, Tractors! Hope you are getting a chance to rest too. How is the new job going?

Nickname, I have not upgraded to premium MFP and, from what I can tell, most people don't. They make their money from advertising and advertorial blogs I think. You can see the features that premium will buy you if you browse around the app. I'm not convinced they are useful to me but each to their own.

I take bust, waist and hip measurements every month as another way to monitor progress rather than relying solely on the scales. Really recommend it. I am only losing half an inch a month off my waist nowadays but I am slowly making progress to having my waist size less than half my height en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waist-to-height_ratio I don't think I will ever have a good waist to hip ratio as I am so apple shaped though.

honeysucklejasmine · 01/05/2018 13:40

Scared was it same time of day etc? O can lose 5lb overnight. Also my period could cause a 4lb ish gain.

nicknamehelp · 01/05/2018 14:22

Interesting interactive article.

I've purchased new trainers and downloaded c25k and am going to do 1st run tonight.

Scared I didn't loose either then next week put on 1/2 stone due to pms but I'm trying to stay positive that with consistency it will start to come of. I've found keeping up with this thread and posting has really helped.

ScaredPAD · 01/05/2018 14:39

Last week was my period so I was seriously expecting to weigh less..

I have to belive that changing habits and eating healthier/walking and swimming will be good for me in the long run and it's a long run etc.... but I was so hoping for early succeeds weight wise!

I'm glad I've joined your group tho ugh and you've got people who have Done It :)

ScaredPAD · 01/05/2018 14:40

Good luck with the run ! I'm going to aquaerobics later. Its older people/low intensity but gets me moving and im less scared about damage to my body!

I saw a photo of me 6 years ago and 6 stone lighter today :(

honeysucklejasmine · 01/05/2018 15:25

Scared I used to do aquaerobics, similar sounding class. Me and I other lady were about 30 years younger than everyone else. Some were a bit snotty ("don't you have a job, love?" "Yes, but I'm self employed so I keep this time for the class" not that it's your business ) but some were fascinating. I particularly liked chatting to the retired Chemistry teacher, which is what my job is too.

I had to stop when I got pregnant with DD, as I had hyperemesis and couldn't predict when I was going to puke - certainly wouldn't have had time to get out the pool let alone to the loo.

I forgot to get nappies at the shops earlier so I'm trying to decide whether to drag kids out again to get them - either in car or in pushchair. It was a beautiful day but sun has gone and the temperature has dropped, so not sure if I want to go for a walk. Toddler also not a fan of extended pushchair time unless she's tired so it couldn't be a cold, screaming, miserable time.

Had the rest of my courgette and mint soup today. I ordered a freezer bag of chopped "casserole veg" from Asda so I will make another batch. Not sure what flavour yet.

honeysucklejasmine · 01/05/2018 15:27

The casserole mix is carrot, swede, turnip, onion and celery. I have no intention of separating it to component veg, but I do have some pearl barley and I bought a gammon joint... Maybe an approximation of scotch broth? I have a bag of potatoes too. Any ideas, anyone?

moonlight1705 · 01/05/2018 16:55

Ooh you could make just a nice gammon casserole but pop apples in near the end to give it a different flavour honey I would totally put cider in for flavour but I'm not that great at this dieting thing

I'm absolutely starving and am desperately trying not to eat anything before tonights meal. Looking forward to bubble and squeak though.

nicknamehelp · 01/05/2018 17:15

Run turned into a bike ride with my dd but managed 5k which considering the bike hasn't left the shed since last summer is not bad!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 01/05/2018 19:47

Realised that we've not had a total in a while, so I have done my sums ..... ^^ .....

Wow Notractors that's fantastic. Just goes to show every pound adds up and with the KOKO we'll be at a 1000 lbs in no time. Well done everyone

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 01/05/2018 21:05

Every pound does add up! Also, this is a "real" loss - when I'm doing the sums, if someone has put on lbs (no shame, we've all been there) then I account for that too, and reduce the total accordingly to give a more accurate picture of what we've done.

Flowers to all of us!

Wow that's amazing loss you've all done.
I decide to go to aquaerobics tonight and had a swim instead of hurrying my sorrows in food. Result where I can get them!

B1rdonawire · 01/05/2018 22:42

Notanurse yes, definitely complain formally! That way there's a timescale for them to investigate and respond, and hopefully the right arse will get kicked and they'll find where they tucked the post-it note with your surgery date only half joking

Thanks all re school situation. The short version is that for excellent, court-ordered, reasons of security risk, DC are not permitted to leave the school site without me. This term, this creates a pain for the school as the class usually has 1 day a week elsewhere. I have been flagging this for two terms and no-one's been interested. Now that we're in the situation, and I've run out of unpaid leave to accompany the off-site day, they are trying to convince me to "change my mind" and say they don't think the risks are high It's not up to them to over-rule whether the risk exists or not, but I endured a meeting of being patronised and undermined and generally made to feel neurotic. And we still don't have a plan for alternative provision. Agh! Children over 5 do have a right to full time education, right? And no-one can take my child off the school property without parental consent? Yesterday I thought I was losing my mind...

honeysucklejasmine · 02/05/2018 06:42

Yep and yep, b1rd. Disgusting that they think they can overrule a court order. I'd be making noises about safeguarding issues and Ofsted. Should light a fire under their arses.

DS is on his fourth wake up of the night. Yay. No idea what's caused this. Well, ok, I have some ideas. But I can't face eliminating any more foods so I'm trying not to think about it.

I've got my coil review this morning. I think my verdict is that it's good for pain relief, but the pms is awful. I'll keep it until I see my gynaecologist, but then I want long term solutions that don't 1) cause me incredible pain, and 2) don't make me want to murder my family

Not too much to ask, right?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 02/05/2018 08:59

So I’ve had my appointment through for a psychiatric appointment for my binge eating through the bariatric clinic.

It’s on December 17th..... I need to figure this out on my own I think then!

honeysucklejasmine · 02/05/2018 09:48

Blimey Lego. I'm not surprised though. I got referrals made in November and the appointments are early June and mid July.

NHS funding is just awful.

nicknamehelp · 02/05/2018 12:12

Not a nurse- complain I had to recently regarding my op not sure if it helped but it helped me!

B1rd - I sometimes wander if teachers have common sense. My dd is deaf and they couldn't understand my concerns about her swimming with the school I had to really dig my heals in and demand procedures be followed. So you do the same and do what is right for your family not easiest for the school.

Lego- that is awful. But nhs does seem yo be on its knees for these things but by investing more money here they would probably save money else where in the
Nhs again another sign of common sense going out the window.

It's a horrible day here which on plus side is stopping me adding to lunch from shop but on the downside means no getting out for a walk or bike ride.

nicknamehelp · 03/05/2018 10:29

2 things I want to share!

1 I brought a dress for a murder mystery night in Jan - now although I haven't lost weight pre my op I was very bloated and this dress was like a top. Tried it onto day as murder happens this weekend! And its a dress my bloat has drastically reduced!

2 A friend recommended So Juicy chicken wrap things (you get a sheet of herbs/oil to wrap chicken in and cook it) tried this last night DC loved it I loved it - chicken was moist and full of flavor and only added 25 cals to the chicken breast but you needed no extra oil!

Sun is out here so I'm going to go for a walk later.

nicknamehelp · 03/05/2018 15:02

Sorry me again but I've just done my first c25k run and feeling v proud of myself - was encouraged by watching Britain's Fat Fight on catch up.

B1rdonawire · 03/05/2018 15:34

Well done!

ScaredPAD · 03/05/2018 15:39

Well done Nick!! I did a big (for me) swim this morning and feeling a lot happier. I'm desperate for next week to actually have lost something but in the meantime the exercise is helping my mood.

AnotherOtter · 03/05/2018 17:11

Scared, did you weigh yourself at the same point in the day? How much you have eaten and drank, how hydrated you are, how much you have gone to the bathroom will change your reading on the scales. I weigh first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything and after peeing. I'd prefer a bowel motion too but my gut doesn't cooperate. That narrows down the variables as much as possible I think. Even so, if I get up later than usual, then my weight is unexpectedly lower. Most women's weights fluctuate a lot which is why I weigh every morning and put the numbers in MyFitnessPal and then just look at the trend rather than individual numbers. I've attached the graph of the last three months so you can see what I mean. Weighing every day makes some people obsess over the numbers: it's not for everyone. I am pretty philosophical now most of the time. Not everyone gets the initial whoosh when starting a new diet either.

Moonlight, being absolutely starving is miserable, at least for me. Could you adjust what you are eating (more fibre and protein really does make you fuller for longer, I thought it was bullshit till I tried) or have planned snacks? I find if I get too hungry then I just end up binging.

That is an amazing total, Tractors! Shock

That is absolutely fucking ridiculous, Notanurse, that you have waited so long with such poor communication. Definitely make a complaint and I say that as a former healthcare worker. Fingers crossed you get somewhere soon.

What a very stressful situation, B1rd. I wonder if it would help if you had an advocate to help fight your corner? Is there a charity that offers support in your circumstances? Or perhaps the solicitor that represented you in your court case? Your local councillor or MP might also be helpful. There is definitely help out there and you certainly can't be the only Mum who has been in this situation. Hope you get a proper resolution soon.

No, that is not too much to ask, Honey! Do you keep a diary of your symptoms? I have found that doctors take me more seriously with it down in black and white.

Really well done on the exercise Nickname and Scared.

So I’ve had 5/7 days of calorie counting and extra walking (the two days not CC was still not excessive and I got my steps on) . Nothing insane but certainly enough to make a difference by a pound or two.

I’ve put on 6Ib. I can’t possibly tell you how pissed off I am!
