Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/03/2018 21:12

Hello, welcome to the fourth instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost 869 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing! Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Honey I hope you don't feel shitty for too long and good news on the dietician for babyHoney. I've forgotten how hard it is with little ones, my memories are a blur.

nicknamehelp · 27/04/2018 14:11

Ta dd is being allowed home once meds arrive from pharmacy. She's been in and out all her life but always turns everything upside down and all I want to eat is sugar!!!

Going to start again tomorrow.

Moonandstars84 · 27/04/2018 14:27

Many of us are early in in our weigh loss for life journeys. I am on about week 8 I think but there are many newer than me.
I think I am on a two year plan to get to a weight which is right for me. However if it happens sooner than great.
However I have to yoed so much I the past that so have to remain focussed.
I think my fitness pal will remain for life.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 27/04/2018 16:31

Has anyone tried Orlistat?

I went to the doctors today and he’s given me a prescription for it and left it up to me to decide wether to fill it or not and I’m not sure wether to take it or leave it

honeysucklejasmine · 27/04/2018 19:19

God no Lego! Horrible drug. You'll leak bright orange oily poo everywhere, according to people who've used it. I think the trouble with it (aside from awful side effects) is that it doesn't change how you eat. It doesn't make you eat less fat, it just stops you absorbing it.

It might be a way to kick start you but honestly I've never heard anything positive about it.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/04/2018 19:30

The potential side effects put me off Lego I must admit!

Gorgeous evening here - DS and I are off for a wander while DD is going to a sleepover....ten 11yr olds, not for the fainthearted! She has literally packed a suitcase so fuck knows what she's taking. Maybe the cat.

Will be back tomorrow to weigh in!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 27/04/2018 20:25

Thank you! He was extremely positive about it but i just couldn’t get my head around it!

I think the prescription will stay in my bag!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 27/04/2018 20:48

He (the doctor) also said that once people are at my weight (317Ib as of this morning) the only real choice is bariatric surgery which I just don’t feel I’m ready to accept as my only choice. I don’t really know what to feel about it tbh

honeyroar · 27/04/2018 20:56

There are some very impressive results on here. Welldone.

I've been very quiet and a bit useless diet wise this last two weeks since I asked to join. My horse got a nail in her foot and had to have an operation - it's been touch and go, my best friend got diagnosed with quite advanced cancer and my mum's best friend (like an aunty to me) also got admitted for an operation to remove a lump they thought was cancerous (they think it isn't now, so one bit of good news) and I'm fighting jet lagg from a California work trip. So I've been comfort eating big time. 🙁 Just been paid, so will be stocking up on healthy things and getting organised again on Monday. I've got a good few days off work, so can hopefully catch my breath.

B1rdonawire · 27/04/2018 22:54

Lego sometimes there are doctors who can't think outside what they can do to or for a patient...it sounds like the GP was only comfortable giving you the purely medical options: drugs or surgery. I guess we'd all agree that losing a substantial amount of weight is hard (!) not least because the reasons for gaining it can be complex, but personally I don't think that means surgery is the only option. It's 1 choice, that might be right for some, but might not suit others at all. I suspect it is no quicker than committing to tackling weight without surgery, once you take into account the pre-op requirements and the post-op recovery...

Only you know the right tools for you to get you where you want to be - may be worth getting more info on surgery to help you rule it in or out, and seeing how much progress you can make in the meantime? Does your GP practice have anyone who specialises in weight loss support? My GP very openly says he is not the best at it, but refers people to one of the nurses who has a lot of training and gives regular 1:1 support either by phone or in person (she's lovely, I can see her if I get stuck).

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 27/04/2018 23:22

Thank you B1rd

He seemed quite adamant that it couldn’t be done without surgery which is strange because i purposely booked with him as he was so supportive of my dad who lost 6 stone 🤷🏻‍♀️

He’s referred me for a psychology appointment at a bariatric clinic to try and pin down why my binging is what it is. I’m strangely looking forward to it.

I was hoping to join the gym but I’ve lost my second job and just can’t afford it for a couple of months. Our borough runs a scheme whereby you attend a fitness class for 10 weeks and you get a 70% discount on the membership but annoyingly the classes are no good if you work during the week! Grr!

For now I’m just going to KOKO and keep my fingers crossed!

Thanks as always everyone for your support

PostNotInHaste · 28/04/2018 07:24

Lego I think that is very positive. Whilst Surgery was not for me I do recognise there is a place for it and from what I hear the support from the batiatric clinics is very good so being able to access that is a big plus, it should be available to more people I feel. There was a very interesting program this week on iplayer -the truth about obesity I think it’s called and they covered Surgery and how scientists have produced a combination of the hormones that change post surgery to suppress appetite. Really interesting and worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. One way or another you will get there, the fact you keep posting shows that.

Honeyroar that is a bloody awful couple of weeks Flowers Glad there was one bit of good news in there and I hope things are a bit more stable from here on.

Honeysuckle hormones completely suck, you have my deepest sympathies.

That obesity program I referred to earlier is worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. Things I got from it was not eating a big meals late as our bodies have a natural cycle and eat a decent amount of fibre to help gut bacteria. Thought the natural cycle bitbwas interesting. I think it explains why I can’t fast during the day long term but am fine to not eat between 6pm and 8am. All the previous studies i’ve Seen were about time of day and calories burned but hadn’t looked at how the body processes the food which is different depending on the time of day.

DH had a bit of a shock with the string test. Basically you take a bit of string your height and fold it in half and it should go round your middle so the whole waist half your height thing. He’d not taken into account that his 32 inch trousers sit lower down on him somalthough the Maths worked for that the string when around his stomach was much tighter than he had anticipated. Mine touched -just if I breathed in but I was pleased with that and hope the rest of the weight loss will improve that.

Good news in our household yesterday for DD finally after a really tough year. She has an unconditional offer for a university course I think will suit her so if she fails her Maths resit again this summer she can still go. She’s waiting for the results of an assessment day for an apprenticeship and had a video interview forvamother but up against thousands and odds tiny for those so a decent back up is great news and I’m really pleased for her. Slightly amused that my very independent daughter who I thought would end up emigrating (she may yet I guess) is following in her Mother’s footsteps to the same city, didn’t see that one coming,

ScaredPAD · 28/04/2018 10:01

Wow B1rd our surgery doesn't have anything like that - that is fantastic support. I kind of feel like I would find it easier with support (hence finding this thread.)

I don't know w lot about bariatric surgery but I heard all the psych support before was supposed to be really good and maybe that in itself will help?

Post I'm really inspired with your loss and your running. I'd love to start c25k again when I'm slimmer (I tried before and got to week 4 and hurt my ankle!)

I haven't decided yet if I want to weight weekl y or fortnightly. Ij need to go into town to so it. I'm already panicki ng if I haven't lost, and then if I have it will be water weight!

I'm a week in and a bundle of nerves but definitely aware I need to be in it for the proper long run. Years...

I'm supposed to be meeting up with fried a for an indian/Chinese takeaway tonight and not sure what to do. Maybe only eat half? I usually binge at this type of thing a nd there isnt anything to order.

ScaredPAD · 28/04/2018 10:01

Anything healthy that should read.

PostNotInHaste · 28/04/2018 10:29

Thanks Scared Could I suggest Chicken Tikka main with boiled rice tonight? Ir comes with a bit of salad and the mint sauce and I find it does the job quite nicely.

nicknamehelp · 28/04/2018 11:12

Morning all.

Been having a catch up and reading others not having an easy time has helped me realise there will never be a perfect time to do this stress free and we just have to KOKO in the good times and try our best in the bad and sometimes cut us some slack and be kinder to ourselves in perhaps none food ways.

Looked up the drug and the side effects didn't look good can't say I would want to take it.

I've half considered surgery but for several reasons I don't think it's for me. I've seen the results it can have and for some yes I'm sure it's the answer but I don't think it should be rushed into.

I'm going for a meeting at a new gym Mon night with a view to joining and getting my fitness back up. I feel just about recovered from my op and ready to start.

Have a great Sat everyone x

Lovely to read updates today.

Scared I always get a biryani. Vegetable usually... Well, I order the vegan one because of ds's allergies. Would get chicken or prawn otherwise but I need to be sure there's no butter in it. But yes, as Post said, grilled meat and boiled rice. I would emphasise though... Do not miss out or eat a ridiculously small portion. As Nurse says, this is going to be a life long change of habits. You can't avoid meals out for the rest of time. It's about sensible choices, or having a lower calorie meal/day to make up for the higher calorie one. Big picture. One meal out of 21 a week is not the end of the world.

Nurse welcome back, lovely to hear from you. I'm getting in to walking too - I wouldn't contemplate it before, but now I am lighter it is so much easier!

Moonlight I'm so sorry to hear your news. I hope it can be treated well.

I will weigh in this morning, not got high hopes though. Rough week.

ChestyNut · 29/04/2018 10:04

This week - + 4oz
Total- 48lbs 8oz

I must do better at popping on the thread through the week!
Finding it hard work at the minute, not having consistent losses is demoralising Sad
I guess I need to change something, need to decide on the option that’s least painful!
1- exercise
2- cut out cheese
3- cut out chocolate

notanurse ChestyDog is doing well!
Vet has discharged him after his surgery and he is sat on my knee intermittently whining for a walk Hmm

Post you look amazing! An inspiration to us all. Just seen your PM will reply later.

Well done all for KOKO Star
