Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/03/2018 21:12

Hello, welcome to the fourth instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost 869 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing! Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Don't see it as a diet. More a new way of eating for life.

BreakingSad · 15/04/2018 20:54

Well done ladies, some good losses this week. I'm on maintenance this week and have managed to STS even with a visit to my Dd at uni, which included two meals out. Still do my exercises, it is ingrained now and this Monday will be on Week 5 of the C25K, it is a very easy program to follow, throughly recommend it.

My tips would be

  1. Meal planning and thinking ahead if eating out
  2. More regarding exercise - be flexible with exercise and adapt it if necessary. Start slowly and manageable, split it up during the day if that's easier and enjoy what you do, as you'll be more likely to stick to it.
nicknamehelp · 16/04/2018 10:40

Morning all sun is shining here which is helping me feel motivated!

Been for a walk washing planned some lovely meals.

B1rdonawire · 16/04/2018 12:10

Well that was a rough week. Had a hard time trying not to eat my anxiety about stuff going on, and had the joy of hormones on top. I have gained a pound but it could have been so much worse!

Did the first run of week 1 of couch to 5k this morning. Honestly thought it was going to be "couch to ambulance" on the second minute Grin Someone who's done it, please please tell me that a) it gets easier and b) I'm not the only person who was shocked to realise they can barely run for one minute. One. Sobering.

I chose the ap with Sarah Millican's voice and that amused me on the way round at least. It was boggy, windy and there was a (tiny) hill I'd never noticed before. bloody did today Next time must remember to tell someone where I'm going and when I'll be back, as it occurred to me I'd done such a good job of finding somewhere private to "run" that if I fell and broke my ankle it could be August before I was found!

As I said, I'm finding it really tough to KOKO just now, so thanks to everyone for their encouragement tips, they were really good to read.

PostNotInHaste · 16/04/2018 12:34

Your mind is your biggest obstacle. It takes time to change your mindset and however hard you try there will be setbacks but KOKO and believe you will do it, however long you take.

Maintenance will be a big challenge and it’s never too early to think about it. Use it as a tool along the way to have a break or cope with difficult times, excellent practice.

B1rd I felt sick after the first session if that makes you feel any better! I knew I was going to struggle to do a minute though. It definitely gets easier. Make sure you go really really slowly, then slower than that. After a bit it gets to the stage where the barriers are psychological rather than physical. If you don’t feel ready to move on then repeat a session and always have the rest days,

Well done BreakingSad and good luck for week 5. The third run is one that people dread but then come back amazed they have actually done it. I guess we’re all dotted around the country. Shame, we could have had a group run in the future GrinThats something that seemed quite unlikely Jan 2017 when the threads started.

PostNotInHaste · 16/04/2018 12:39

And if you want to have your own music you can do that by using the Zen Labs C25K app.

nicknamehelp · 16/04/2018 12:58

B1rd well I've only ever got as far as installing the app. My only advice is to keep on at your own pace.

BreakingSad · 16/04/2018 13:05

Sorry you're had a rough week B1rdonawire, this will be the second week on maintenance for me, as my eating had spiralled and I needed to get back with it. Could you do that for a couple of weeks?

And well done for starting the C25K, I'm on Week 5. Post has it spot on regarding psychological rather than physical, I'm constantly telling my inner voice to shut up.

Post well done on your fitness score on the Fitbit, I aspire to that level, on fair to average at the moment. When I'm up to your level, we'll have to have a virtual run instead Grin

Purpleneonpinkunicorns · 16/04/2018 13:41

Hey all newbie here, thank you honey for showing me this page as I'm going to have a good read and feel quiet excited about it all. Good luck everyone

nicknamehelp · 16/04/2018 13:56

Welcome purple I only no I joined last week but found everyone friendly and very helpful.

B1rdonawire · 16/04/2018 14:31

Thank you, you keep me hanging on and I really really appreciate it. Love the idea of a group run - might need to be virtual...and a long time in the future!

Oddsocks15 · 16/04/2018 17:42

Another newbie here Grin

My stats are:

fezzesarecool · 16/04/2018 18:21

Just got our first choice school offer 😄 Celebration time with a healthy dinner 🤣

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 16/04/2018 20:10

Welcome oddsocks and purple and congrats fezzes!

Literally just a post and dash tonight - I've had a really draining day at work, really undecided at times if this new job is for me Confused. Going for an early night tonight and hoping things look better in the morning. Not going to make any rash decisions anyway.

Hope the rest of you have had a better Monday! KOKO.

Hi oddsocks. I think it's the previous page, but we were discussing SW vs CC, have a read and please do ask if you've got follow up questions. I think the thinking on VLCD is it's fine as a quick start before moving on to something else. But it's also a matter of "quick to come off, and quick to come back again" if you don't make changes when you finish it.

Hi purple, welcome, welcome!

So, this week I decided to treat my calorie goal as an actual goal, and try to meet it. Last week I was 1600 under my goal which is silly. I feel like I said this already though, so not going to ramble on!

honeysucklejasmine · 16/04/2018 21:21

Sorry about the job issues tractors. I hope you reach a decision you are happy about.

Nobeachbody · 16/04/2018 21:34

otter thanks for posting your weight loss graph showing your 4lb blip but well done for overcoming it! I am still struggling to stay on track, but haven't thrown in the towel, and know that I'm eating far less than I was so inevitably I've got to lose weight, albeit slowly, even tho I may be consuming nearer 2000 calorie a day rather than the 1650 I'm meant to be on . Still managing to stick to 16; 8 , ie not eating lunch till around 2pm most days which gives me a good 16 - 18 hours "fast" a day. It's the evening and booze that I find hardest - poured myself a single gin and tonic tonight (actually measured a 25ml measure) which I find much easier to control than wine. There's not the same compulsion to finish the bottle that I have with wine - thank God or I really would be in trouble!! So maybe having one G and T a night night keep my alcohol cravings at bay . It certainly did the job tonight. And I am
Going to start cutting out all sweet stuff again, I find going cold turkey easier than trying by to eat it in moderation. But was a bit swamped over easter with goodies, tho thankfully they have all now been "disposed" ofSmile

nicknamehelp · 17/04/2018 06:54

Just got weighed 1lb off which considering Fri I had a major blip and I'm still not v active I am pleased with.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 17/04/2018 08:57

I’ve had to screenshot this thread because it isn’t on my threads I’m on and I cNt remember the name! MNHQ is trying to sabotage me Wink

So they sent me the wrong scales and they didn’t go up high enough (slightly awks explaining that to amazon) and the ones I ordered are out of stock so I’ve no idea on my weight but I’m trying to make better choices!
I’m hosting a kids birthday party today...my favourite thing ever is kids part snack food (and just generally party food!) so I’m going to steer well clear of the food table!

Hi to the newbies and hope everyone is having a good wek

AnotherOtter · 17/04/2018 10:30

B1, are you me?! Grin I have also just done the first run of week 1 of C25K with Sarah Millican. I am very much an over-preparer and did quite a bit of research as I've been working up the courage to do this for months. The key thing seems to be to go as slow as possible while still a run (you have phases where both feet are off the ground). Over and over again I saw experienced runners tell the newbies to slow down. So I did and I was alright I think. I had one run where I got a bit flustered going past a group and went too fast and felt over-taxed but other than that it was okay. So maybe you were going too fast? I feel so proud of myself for even starting though! I actually felt a bit tearful at the end when Sarah Millican said "you've done really well", I am ridiculous. I've had the usual "fat bitch", "fat whore", etc, shouted at me in the past and running in public really worried me but don't think anyone even noticed me. Now to keep it up! Anyway, I hope you have a much better week this week and the anxiety resolves soon Thanks

Breaking, you are doing so well maintaining and STS and cracking on with C25K. Do you have any advice for the middle weeks?

Post, love the idea of a group run!

Welcome Purpleneonpinkunicorns and Oddsocks.

Congratulations Fezzes on the school place.

Tractors, hope things settle at the new job soon Thanks

Nobeach, not to sound preachy but isn't that a little alarming to have a "compulsion" to finish the wine bottle? Are you drinking every day? Alcohol really is empty calories. I feel so much better mood-wise for ditching alcohol and it really makes it easier to keep within my calorie budget. Fuck, I do sound preachy, sorry. It's meant with concern not judgement.

Lego, good luck with your party today.

Nobeachbody · 17/04/2018 11:37

Otter don't worry about sounding preachy, you're right, I do have a problem with alcohol and it worries me. I don't drink EVERY day, but drink far more than I should. ( I've been trying (unsuccesfully, it has to be said), to have four booze free days a week. But wine is my massive downfall. If i open a bottle i find it very hard not to drink the lot. Though as I said in a previous post, I had two G&T's last night, carefully measured out, and didn't really want the second one to be honest.

The trouble is I LOVE the taste of wine, and i love its effect (obviously not any hangover the next day). I love the slight fuzziness round the edges, the hit of cold white wine on an empty stomach. But in the past year a very good friend of mine died of alcoholism and it terrifies me. Despite that, I just find it impossible to stop drinking. I can have a few days off, and I'm not pouring vodka on my cornflakes or swigging Special Brew on a park bench, but can't imagine giving up completely. The problem is that I don't really want to give up, I just want to drink in moderation, but not sure I am capable of it.

I've just worked out that I've had about 32 units of alcohol in the past week, which I'm aware is more than double the recommended limit. Sad

I know that drinking is slowing my weight loss progress, and probably impacting adversely on my health. And it's not just the empty calories, though that's bad enough, it's the fact that after a few drinks any self control goes out the window and I find myself face down in a box of chocolates/pile of buttered toast. And if I have a hangover, I am incapable of eating sensibly the next day, and crave carbs and junk food.

I'm beginning to think i should maybe join some drinking thread on MN rather than weight loss, though need help with both really.......

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 17/04/2018 11:41

I’m wondering, how awful is a subway salad?

I actually love a good salad but am awful at bringing them from home, there’s a Subay round the corner and I’m wondering wether a ham & turkey salad is really terrible with salt etc and what dressing/sauce would be best on it if it’s acceptable?

I find if I go to get a sandwich or ready meal from Tesco, I end up buying so so much crap. I eat insane amounts at lunch so I’m trying to work out how to stop. Obviously there’s only a limited amount of food in subway!

Nobeachbody · 17/04/2018 11:41

"Otter" on a more positive note, well done on starting couch to 5k. I've been an intermittent runner over the years, and find the app a brilliant way to get back into it again. What I love about it is that there is no agonising, no decision making along the lines of "do I keep running, ooh it hurts, I'll just give up, how much longer do I keep going for, bugger it this is awful I'm going home. ". There is none of that, you just do exactly as the nice lady tells you, follow the instructions to the letter, and within 8 weeks or however long the programme is you will be able to run for about half an hour non stop. Good luck, and take it slowly. I think it's unrealistic to expect it to be a completely pain-free experience, you have to expect a certain level of discomfort, but persevere, it is a great form of exercise, and you feel fantastic when you're fit enough to run comfortably.

BreakingSad · 17/04/2018 12:39

Honey only advice I'd give is crank up the music and go slow, as others have said. And don't think too much about it, just do it, something which I'm working on Grin

Post i didn't realise until last night run that they were all different this week.

BreakingSad · 17/04/2018 12:40

Sorry meant AnotherOtter not Honey
