Just done day one of 30 day shred

I fucking hate it!

Anyone else shredding?

I'm going on a walking holiday in the summer - 15 miles a day for 10 days over some decent hills, so I really need to get fit(ter at least! And lose weight.). I'm now wondering why I ever thought it was a good idea, I'm much more suited to holidays that involve leisurely meals, gentle strolling and ice-cream!

Ive had the DVD for years but only ever done maximum 5 days at a time. I've never even got out of the first section.

I'm only working a couple of days this week and next week so I'm determined to do it at least 5 times a week for the next few weeks. Even though I fucking hate it! I really hope it will be getting a bit easier after a couple of weeks. Please someone tell me that I will notice a difference in my ability/stamina in that time?

I suffer a bit with shin splints/pain, it's one of the reasons I've stopped in the past. It's particularly the butt kicks, and to a lesser degree the jump rope exercises that I can feel triggering it; so I find myself holding back a bit on these. Maybe I'll just have to do more jumping jacks instead - they don't seem as bad. I don't want to get really sore because that will stop me getting the miles in with the walk training. I'm hoping losing weight will help.

Oh dear - I've had three days off!
Work has been crazy and the kids have had clubs in the evenings so I just haven't had time. Back on it tomorrow and no phoning it in!
Neonrose - you are doing amazing!
Well done to everyone that is sticking with it.

I’ve had the dvd for 3 years— it’s still in the plastic wrap! You’ve motivated me to start tomorrow Halo

Ofthread · 23/02/2018 22:31

Shall I start tomorrow with you?

beela · 24/02/2018 08:18

dancing me too! We've been away so I've skipped 3 days Blush

Back home and back on it now though. Shred ✅ for today.

Hello to everyone starting this weekend Smile

DancingRoundTheKitchen · 24/02/2018 10:25

Beela, I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Just finished mine. Decided to do level 2 and it was hard but I think having a couple of days off has helped me. Feel motivated again.
I'm weighing in on Monday. Really hoping for 2lbs off. I'm trying to lose 2stone by the summer and target is to feel ok about putting a swimming costume on!
Anyone else want to share targets?

neonrose · 24/02/2018 12:28

Hey everyone, I've just done day 6 Smile. Feeling pleased with myself.

I'm having a rest day tomorrow. I've mostly been off work this week so thats why I've done it everyday and I feel like thats got me off to a good start. From next week I'll probably be doing 5 days a week. I work long days at least twice a week so will struggle to fit it in those days, as I'm out early and then pretty tired when I get in; on my shorter days and days off I'm still going to aim to do it first thing. I think with most exercise you're supposed to have a couple of rest days a week aren't you?

I think I would have found it really hard to get back into it if I'd had a couple of days break during the week so well done beela and DancingRoundTheKitchen!

Welcome FelixCited and Ofthread let us know how you get on with day 1 - she's not lying when she says you will be finding it easier by day 5/6/7, even though you might not believe her. I'm not swearing at the TV at all now!

Purpleknickers how are you doing? How are the aches?

Oops DancingRoundTheKitchen I forgot to say, I haven't weighed myself as I feel like it might be more of a hinderance than a help at this point!

I have a rough idea of what I weighed when I started dieting on 29th January (just from how I felt/looked) and I will probably weigh myself at the beginning of May. I've stuck to my diet really well and I'm completely committed to continuing, so I'm hoping I'll be a bit happier with what I see on the scales by then. I hope I will be in the 14 stone range, I am tall but not so tall that this isn't still going to be overweight! I hope that by August I will be in the 13 stone range and that will probably be the least I've weighed in about 10 years. Shock I'm really feeling positive that I can do it as well, and that these are fairly realistic goals.

I suppose my actual target rather than a specific weight is to get to a point where I don't put off/make excuses not to do things because or my weight/how I feel about myself. Don't want to waste any more of my life doing that!

Good luck for you weigh in on Monday!

My dvd arrived today so I’m going to do day 1 today as I haven’t managed to fit a run in. I’m aiming to do 2 days running, one day shred on rotation until Easter.

Spam88 · 24/02/2018 18:34

A lot of people say it's better to compare your before and after measurements rather than weight with the Shred, I guess it builds a lot of muscle and tones you up, so you'll slim down but not necessarily lose a lot of weight.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/02/2018 21:26

Just done my first level 1 of shred, and clearly my running is helping my fitness, because it was a lot less painful than I remembered! Definitely going to work it into my exercise programme. I do need to find my hand weights though, because I had to resort to bean cans and they are hard to hold!

Wow neonrose 6 days in a row is impressive, well done!

neonrose · 25/02/2018 15:33

Well done thenewaveragebear, it must feel good to know the running is doing you good!

Thanks beela I actually feel like I could it today as well, but it's probably best to have a day off. I might do a short workout from that fitness blender site someone mentioned earlier. Its a good website there's loads on there!

I've been to visit family today and as soon as I walked in my auntie, who I haven't seen from Christmas, said "wow you look well, you've lost weight, you must have lost at least a dress size." Grin Made my day!

I managed the days 1-5 and on Saturday I did a 30 mins piyo class and 30 mins insanity so I figured that replaced 30 shred day 6. Had thought about going for a run but I ache so much I think I need the day off ! So day 7 of shred tomorrow 🙈 !!

Well done everyone for persevering !

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/02/2018 17:05

Neon the fitness blender 30 minute thing I did the other day was really good, if anything I enjoyed it more than shred. Sorry Jillian.

neonrose · 26/02/2018 09:25

Day 7 done Smile

beela · 26/02/2018 09:29

Day 5 done here Smile

I'm planning to shred again tomorrow, swim on Wednesday, rest day Thursday and then move to level 2 on Friday.

Those kind of abs don't come for free!

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 26/02/2018 12:19

I'd like to join in! Just done first day. Found it hard which isn't good because when I first got the dvd about 4 years ago I found it really easy! So obviously my level of general fitness has dropped. By the end I just lay on the floor exhausted 😂

I am doing it to tone up for my holiday in 3 months time. I'm fairly slim but squidgy.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/02/2018 18:53

I did my 2nd day today (I’m only doing every 3rd day as a rest from running) - I might go up to level 2 next time. My fitness must be improved overall since the last time I did this programme because I found it, not easy as such, but not too strenuous. Is level 2 a lot harder? Does it have those god-awful jump rope things? That’s the only bit I hate, it makes me feel like my throat is exploding, I don’t know why!?

00alwaysbusymum · 27/02/2018 20:59

So pleased I've just done day 8 Smile

Really didn't want to do it tonight - I'm starving, haven't eaten yet but forced my self to do it before I start sorting out food (which my husband kindly started for me before he started working)

I tried on a dress I loved and could barely get it over my bum / hips so that's my target by the summer !

neonrose · 27/02/2018 21:20

Welcome GaryBarlowsTaxReturn!

Well done 00alwaysbusymum. Good to have something to aim for as well.

I didn't do day 8 today 👎 I've had the most horrendous period pain I've had in years! It's started to ease now and I'm actually looking forward to exercising again tomorrow.

I think I'm going to try level 2 tomorrow as well thenewaveragebear, we can compare notes!

neonrose · 28/02/2018 10:55

Well day 8 done. My first attempt at level 2 🤣 It was comedy gold! I've never really done 'planks' before and there was a few exercises based on that position, so that was interesting. I enjoyed it though, which is a massive change from day 1!

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/02/2018 12:48

Oooh planks, I’d never done them before and then did a fitness blenders thing with various plank exercises including tapping alternate shoulders and raising alternate legs. Torture!

Did level 2 have the jump rope thing? If not I will definitely move up a level, those things kill me.

beela · 28/02/2018 14:32

Watch out averagebear, she moves onto double jump rope in one of them! Can't remember if that is 2 or 3.

Bracing myself to go swimming tonight, but looking forward to hitting level 2 on Friday.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/02/2018 14:50

Double jump rope????? How does that even work? I’ll have to switch them for jumping jacks!!
