Just done day one of 30 day shred

I fucking hate it!

Anyone else shredding?

I'm going on a walking holiday in the summer - 15 miles a day for 10 days over some decent hills, so I really need to get fit(ter at least! And lose weight.). I'm now wondering why I ever thought it was a good idea, I'm much more suited to holidays that involve leisurely meals, gentle strolling and ice-cream!

Ive had the DVD for years but only ever done maximum 5 days at a time. I've never even got out of the first section.

I'm only working a couple of days this week and next week so I'm determined to do it at least 5 times a week for the next few weeks. Even though I fucking hate it! I really hope it will be getting a bit easier after a couple of weeks. Please someone tell me that I will notice a difference in my ability/stamina in that time?

I suffer a bit with shin splints/pain, it's one of the reasons I've stopped in the past. It's particularly the butt kicks, and to a lesser degree the jump rope exercises that I can feel triggering it; so I find myself holding back a bit on these. Maybe I'll just have to do more jumping jacks instead - they don't seem as bad. I don't want to get really sore because that will stop me getting the miles in with the walk training. I'm hoping losing weight will help.

Very inspired by this thread. I’m up to level 1 day 2. Done the whole 30 days a couple of times before but not for a while. So trying to do it a few times a week- really busy at work at the moment so can’t manage more than 3 times a week but better than no times a week, I suppose! Hopefully I will feel fear leaving my body pretty soon...

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 13/03/2018 21:01

Just did Day 10 of level 1. Level 2 tomorrow and I'm actually a bit scared! Blush

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/03/2018 21:07

Itsnice I actually prefer level 2, so you might be surprised!

It’s my running rest day tomorrow, so will be doing level 2 myself! Last time I felt really good at it, (does that sound odd? Like a pro not a beginner!) but then after about 36 hours I felt my poor body seize up and I’ve had a bit of knee ache today. Damn you Jillian and your crazy workout.

Hi All, I feel that I'm a bit late to the thread but only just came across it.

First time Shredder...I'm on day 17 tomorrow, I did 8 days of Level 1 and have just done my 8th day of level 2.

I feel like I got used to level 1 quite quickly, hence feeling ready to move to level 2 on day 9. I've found level 2 much harder, I was lying on the living room floor breathing out of my arse on the first few goes but I'm defo getting used to it now and feeling less like passing out by the end!

I have had 1 rest day since starting it but have managed to push myself to get out of bed (@ 5.30 on workdays!) to do it and feel loads better for it. It sets me up for the day for sure.

I took a progress pic today and compared against day 1 and I can see a difference in my stomach and arms and had a few comments over the last couple of days asking if I've lost weight so I'm looking forward to seeing the results at the end.

I took a sneak peak at Level 3 yesterday and I'm weirdly looking forward to it (famous last words) so I'll move onto it in a couple of days I think.

This is the first exercise I've actually stuck too! I usually hate exercise!

BoredHorse · 13/03/2018 21:28

P.s. I find the squat jumps and squat/v raises from level 2 are still a killer! I also can't seem to master the double jump rope so I have to do the single jump instead!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 14/03/2018 19:43

Just did Day 1 of level 2. Found it v difficult although strangely enjoyable Confused. Felt like a lot of the exercises impacted on my abs which is good because that's my biggest issue.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/03/2018 19:51

I did level 2 today although I did it quite late in the afternoon and felt tired. I don’t know if I’m doing the planks right, I feel my feet slipping a bit so maybe I’m not low enough to start with!? I enjoyed it though. Keep
Up the good work everyone!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 14/03/2018 20:20

Also not sure I'm doing the planks right, my feet kept slipping too. Although I was just in socks which probably wasn't helping! To be honest I'm not sure I was doing a lot of them right. Hoping it'll be clearer the more I watch.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/03/2018 20:39

I feel like I’m more ‘downward facing dog’ than rigid plank of wood!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 15/03/2018 19:21

Day 2 of level 2 💪

Easier today, though still bloody tough!

00alwaysbusymum · 16/03/2018 09:54

Well last night I finished level 2 !!!!!! So happy definitely notice an improvement in my fitness but still struggling. Thought I would watch level 3 whilst ironing - what a mistake - really scared of trying it.

Also my knees are really aching lately - I'm not sure if I'm doing all the exercises properly?

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 16/03/2018 13:18

I'm also having issues with my knees. A pp up thread (sorry can't remember name) said that they thought JM was a bit too high impact, or something along those lines. It's in the back of my mind, although I'm also not wearing trainers to do the exercises which won't be helping! Going to get some this weekend, but if nothing else that proves that this really is the first time I've ever exercised...Blush

BoredHorse · 16/03/2018 21:46

I find wearing supportive trainers a must when doing the shred. I just got some Nike City Trainers from Sports direct and they are really comfy and relatively cheap.

I've done 2 days of Level 3 now. It's tough, lots of jumping involved and variations of the plank! I've had to stop a few times throughout it so far, take a few seconds and try to carry on but I think it will hopefully get easier after a few more days!

beela · 17/03/2018 15:03

I've on day 4 of level 3. Managed the jumping lunges without stopping today, but the rock star jumps are still killing me.

I agree, supportive trainers make a massive difference.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 17/03/2018 21:23

Ive has a rest day today. My knees are still hurting and now my ankles are painful Sad

On the plus side, I bought some proper trainers today Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/03/2018 07:04

I skived yesterday and had a total rest day (no run or shred). I also went looking for trainers. Those Nike city ones seem good for the price, £39 in our local sports shop, so I’ve decided I will treat myself on payday.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 18/03/2018 09:24

I got my trainers from TK Maxx Grin

Now looking for some proper leggings (I'm planning to do some public classes so I don't think my holey topshop leggings are going to cut it), and I didn't realise how expensive sports wear is.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/03/2018 09:33

Itsnice I looked in tkmaxx yesterday and they did seem to gave some good deals on trainers. I got my running leggings from Lidl in one of their special offers, but I have noticed most of the supermarkets do a range now. I suppose it depends how much use they’ll get but mine have been perfectly adequate for what I’ve needed them for. I think they were about £6!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 18/03/2018 10:40

They won't get too much use 😂

Great suggestion thank you, I'll take a look in my local this week.

KikiMadeMeDoIt · 18/03/2018 12:13

ItsNice That was me talking about the impact. I’m a pretty experienced exerciser and I don’t do any jumping in workouts - it would destroy my knees and ankles. Please be careful.

beela Are you nearly finished 😀

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 18/03/2018 16:54

Kiki I'm (lurking) on your Jessica Smith thread and plan to try one tonight.

I'm an utter exercising novice and feel a bit cross with myself for damaging my body, however good my intentions.

So do you think it's the jumping, rather than lunges/squats that causes the damage? Just trying to figure out what exercises I need to be careful with.

KikiMadeMeDoIt · 18/03/2018 17:55

itsnice yep, I do think it’s the jumping. Plyometrics should only be done when you’re strong and have done lots of cardio and resistance exercise, they’re mainly used by athletes to increase explosive power and they shouldn’t be done more than a couple of times a week. They really, really mustn’t be done barefoot.

This is my opinion and experience, but to back it up I’ve got a diploma in gym instruction and personal training and I’m nearly finished with my sport science degree. And I really, really hate seeing people get hurt.

Don’t be cross, be gentle and try some Jessica beginner workouts. It’s also really important to take your time when you’re starting, you don’t have to keep up with anyone. Have you chosen one or do you need some help?

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 18/03/2018 20:43

That's so helpful, thanks so much.

I've chosen one you linked to on the other thread, thank you. I've actually decided I'm going to leave it a couple more days though, so I'm giving myself a bit more time to heal. I've loved exercising and don't want to injure myself before I've properly started!

beela · 18/03/2018 22:35

kiki nearly! I want to get through level 3 just once without stopping. I'm so close!! Then I'll come across to Jessica. I'm looking forward to it Smile

KikiMadeMeDoIt · 19/03/2018 12:00

Itsnice I'll put some other gentle ones for when you're up to it. Hope you feel better soon.

beela Brilliant! Good luck with getting this thing done Glitterball (closest to a medal).
