Anyone up for a current thread? I've had a good search and couldn't find anything recent!

I've got the book/cd and am downloading the app too. I'll start tonight.

I've never done this kind of thing before but am very open to it working :)

Hello everyone, am I okay to join in please? I've read up to February 4th or 6th and have ordered the book mentioned.

Not sure if doing vitals but if so, I'm 46, between five foot four and five foot six, weigh 13 stone 6lbs and was five pounds lighter a month or two ago while trying to do MFP. I got fed up of weighing everything, I'm also peri-menopausal and mentally/emotionally not very well at the moment.

MFP is much easier to follow with prepared and shop bought food but I prefer to cook from scratch as much as possible. I also got out of the habit of using my exercise bike three times a day but I do walk twice a day for at least an hour in the morning and 45-60 minutes in the afternoon with my dog.

I have emotional food issues which I really need to crack to have any chance. I know why I have them, rationally know I'm hurting myself, but don't know how to stop Sad.

DottyDotts · 18/03/2018 22:30

Yearof which book have you ordered? He does an emotional eating book with cd too

YearOfYouRemember · 19/03/2018 08:02

Hi DottyDotts I've ordered the one mentioned on page one the sugar one. I've dug out my ICMYT book this morning and just need to find some earphones as I have the listening bit on my iPod.

DottyDotts · 19/03/2018 08:11

I've never read his sugar book. Ivan make you thin is excellent though.

ppeatfruit · 19/03/2018 08:26

Welcome Year you sound ideal for the PM way of eating! I never weighed food or counted calories (I couldn't be bothered and noticed that as soon as dh stopped doing them and those dried milk drink meal replacer diets, he put on twice as much weight!).

I always ate healthily but the weight crept on regardless! The PM was and is the way I control my weight now it works and you never feel deprived!

YearOfYouRemember · 19/03/2018 16:35

Thank you ppeatfruit.. I haven't had chance for any listening or reading today have tried to eat the PM way. I didn't eat until 11 and stopped once I realised I wasn't enjoying it any more. This is a big deal for me as my food cost a bit and I don't like waste.

After I'd walked the dog I was frozen and really wanted some fresh bread with my cup a soup so I had both and enjoyed them. Later I felt sad and ate one chocolate. Bad thing to do but I did enjoy it and savour it. Need to learn that chocolate doesn't solve anything and does nothing but make me fatter.

Dinner will be a Chinese takeaway and M&S cake as we have a birthday in the family but I'll make sure not to over eat.

DottyDotts · 19/03/2018 16:42

year eating chocolate or any food is not ever a bad thing to do. It's just food. It's how we perceive it that's the problem. If you want chocolate, have it but savour it slowly. As you have realised, when you have had enough it no longer tastes as nice Smile

YearOfYouRemember · 19/03/2018 16:57

Thank you DottyDots.

Checking in. Got on ok today so far, didn't eat until lunch & had already prepared a vat of tabbouleh yesterday so had that with tomatoes & a slice of veda. Managed to do the 20 chews & knife & fork down each time but don't think I'll ever be able to eat anything hot again with this method. I've often been guilty of wolfing stuff down as I can't abide food that should be hot being cold!

I've also had a cup of tea & a biscuit this avo-really enjoy that simple pleasure so not ready to give that up but not bad so far.

He says if you don't get the full feeling to guess for the first couple of days. I'm emotionally hungry now but not really stomach hungry & not sure what to do about teatime-we lave leftover chinese so will feed the dc & see how I feel after that. Also found it quite difficult to focus when eating lunch with dd & my parents!

YearOfYouRemember · 20/03/2018 08:09

I'm up a pound.

DottyDotts · 20/03/2018 10:03

Year weighing yourself leads to self sabotage. You probably weigh more at the moment from your Chinese meal as it's salty and attracts weight. Our weight fluctuates by pounds each day, up and down but if your trying to change your attitude to food and get a handle on living without dieting then you have to give it time and read the book.

YearOfYouRemember · 20/03/2018 10:20

Thank your DottyDots. I haven't let it get to me and haven't eaten yet as not hungry. Tbh I have an upset tummy. Probably from the Chinese as not used to them. Is it best to just weigh once a week?

ppeatfruit · 20/03/2018 10:24

Yes *Dotty's right about the weighing. I haven't weighed for ages (our scales are broken anyway) But I haven't for ages . I go by my clothes, which are all a smaller size and the styles are tighter than they were , I threw out the larger ones (to charity) when I lost the 3 stone! I also stand sideways in front of a full length mirror after the shower and notice my belly ! Sorry TMI Grin

ppeatfruit · 20/03/2018 10:25

Apologies for the typos! Blush

YearOfYouRemember · 20/03/2018 10:36

I'm not sure I can fully rely on my clothes. When I was poorly a few years ago I put on two stone due to reacting to the medication and everything still fit!

ppeatfruit · 20/03/2018 10:39

They'll loosen if you stick to the Paul Mc. way of eating. Grin

DottyDotts · 20/03/2018 10:41

Year that's a hard answer. Don't weigh yourself at all for the first month is the correct response but it's not that simple is it. If your a seasoned dieter then you have a disordered eating pattern. Mindful eating is about learning to eat like someone who has never dieted in their life. It's eating when your actually hungry. Do you remember a time when you were really truly hungry and grabbing food was essential and necessary?

YearOfYouRemember · 20/03/2018 10:55

I wasn't free to eat as a child. I had to take food when the carpets were out. On a night they'd go for dinner and I don't count the bread slices or the biscuits to see if there was enough to not miss one or two.

Then when I got married and had children I realised I loved cooking and food shopping and I know I feel happier when the fridge is full and the meals are planned for the week. Currently have lots of food in but no plans so need to sort that.

Since I have done the 5:2 I feel my metabolism has changed and I go from not fussed to starving it feels in seconds. I'm also peri-menopausal, come from a family of large women, on meds and struggling at times with anxiety.

I feel panicky when I feel I can't eat as I want to say up yours to those that didn't feed me but of course, they neither know or care and I'm left feeling useless and fat.

YearOfYouRemember · 20/03/2018 10:56

I won't weigh until April 19th. I've posted it so have to stick to it,Grin.

CuriousMama · 20/03/2018 11:09

Can I join?

Just ordered the book from the library.

I'm going to the gym regularly and eating much healthier. I actually live vegetables. Crisps can be my downfall.

I need to lose at least 2 stone but am toning up. I'm not going by my perfect bmi as I'd look terrible at that weight. I'm broad shouldered and 5 ft 8. I mainly have fat on my stomach.

Good luck everyone. I can't wait to get the book.

CuriousMama · 20/03/2018 11:10

Love vegetables Smile

DottyDotts · 20/03/2018 11:16

19th April it is then Grin Year you and I have the same upbringing. I too wasn't allowed to eat food unless it was given to me by my mother. I went through the cupboards when they were out taking bits of food but not enough for them to notice. Bingeing really. I also feel that feeling of not wanting to deprive myself now. We don't want to do to ourselves what they did to us. So cruel. It's caused me a lifetime of disordered eating which is a constant battle to overcome Smile

ppeatfruit · 20/03/2018 12:02

OMG it makes me Sad and Angry when I read about parents like yours Dotty and Year. It's terrible to bring children up like that.

Welcome curious I have an amazing (very easy) but effective crunch type exercise for the removal of belly fat.It has given me a nice shape which I didn't have as a size 8 age 21!

CuriousMama · 20/03/2018 13:57

Thanks for the welcome ppea. Do share the exercise please.

A friend of mine used to be like that regarding food. Mainly with her son. I told her it was abuse. Didn't go down too well.

Just been to zumba . Loved it but I dance anyway so wasn't hard. I found tai chi harder to follow.

DottyDotts · 20/03/2018 14:07

Curious it is definitely abuse these days but back in the 60/70 such things went unchallenged. Welcome by the way Grin
