Alot of gym trainers warned me off body pump so I barely did it. They said it was just cardio and not enough weight training.

Then I just started doing it 2-3 times a week because I fancied a change.

Holy shit. My shoulders developed good definition very quickly and so my quad muscles in my thighs started coming through too. It all happened very quickly. I feel stronger in yoga too doing planks and downward.dog.

So i would vouch for body pump.

I like circuit training and hiit classes. They are short and sweet. 30 minutes of high intensity training incorporating cardio and weight training.

I love yoga too it has increased my flexibility and strength also.

HairsprayBabe · 29/01/2018 13:34

I used to do a kettle bell class that was alright koko like 5 years ago

NewYearNiki · 29/01/2018 13:36

I do lots of kettlebells in my circuit classes.

They are awesome. Don't need to do them for long. A very effective workout.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/01/2018 13:37

BodyPump is amazing!

I think exercise has so many benefits. I usually do 3 x 6am Classes, these are predominantly Circuits but have some boxing too. I love boxing - its my favourite. This costs me £100 every 6 weeks.

I also try and run once or twice a week and am trying to build up to 5 miles. Currently running 3 miles.

I've not been able to exercise for a few weeks due to being poorly but cant wait to get back. Smile

You're a machine pebbles Wink

I used to love body pump. And, well, going to the gym in general.

DH does CrossFit and is a completely different shape to when he started. I only half recommend it though - members get a bit culty... Grin

twink I know it's just basic common sense, but I had never really considered before how likely it is that that's just the root cause of most peoples' weight problems - everyone always thinks "ah I've only gained a couple of pounds, it'll drop off again now I'm back at work" but realistically, most people have OK-ish diets and OK-ish activity levels so more or less maintain their weight, but won't naturally lose any excess, so it just builds up. I also think people who have never seriously dedicated themselves to losing weight have extremely skewed ideas about what will shift a couple of pounds. I was hopelessly deluded when I first decided to slim down Blush

P.S. BOOP just saw you on another thread - HTJI Wink

Another vote for body pump here! It changes every three months as well so you don't get bored and there is very little in the way of jumping around.

My sister does Crossfit and she loves it and has got a lot stronger, but yes it's basically a cult Grin

Softpebbles · 29/01/2018 19:55

Ha ha BOOP. Not at the moment but hopefully again soon! Love my 5.40 gym alarm 🙄

QuimReaper · 29/01/2018 21:54

koko I had fairly "meh" results on it but maybe doing more than 3 days (which is all I did) would yield better results? I also didn't eat heaps of fat on it; I didn't intend to stay low carb after it so I didn't see the point! It's a fab way to catapult yourself into ketosis if you're planning to go LCHF though, even for 14 days.

lastqueenofscotland · 29/01/2018 22:42

Hairspray what about running or buying a few weights for home instead of spending £££ on the gym?

HairsprayBabe · 30/01/2018 07:11

Tried running lasty and I hate it, plus I have a bad right knee, hurt it as a teen and it has never been the same. I havr weights and stuff at home I just don't use them.

I used to do classes with a friend when we were 18/19 and I didn't mind them, as long as I can motivate myself to go!

10.4 so -4 for all of January and one more day to go... so annoyed I let it slip this weekend, I was back at 10 dead two weeks ago I was sure I was going to be in the 9s before Feb...

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 30/01/2018 08:36

Power walking with the weights?

At least you've gone downward this month, better than staying the same :)

TheDonald · 30/01/2018 09:02

Morning all. I've got a day off today. I'm meeting my friend to go walking followed by national trust cafe Smile. How come it's so much easier to get out of bed when I'm not going to work Grin

Still 10 10.4 today. I would love to be 5 oz lighter tomorrow and end the month on 10 9.

Hairspray I used to not run for the same reasons as you. Long standing knee injury from being a teen. I've actually cured it by running. It only flares up now if I go skiing or if I don't run for a few weeks. I think the running has strengthened and stabilised it.

Interesting talk about body pump too. I have been meaning to try it. I'm seeing a physio today about my dodgy Achilles so might go if I get the all clear.

NewYearNiki · 30/01/2018 10:44

I can run either. I just don't like it and have bad knees too.

Kikisdeliveries · 30/01/2018 12:23

I really like bodypump. Keep meaning to go more regularly than once in a blue moon. I've seen it transform a friend's arms to lean lovely muscles .

My own knee pain (and various other leg/hip issues) are all caused by glutes not activating so am on a regime to try and get my glutes stronger and more involved to stop other areas from compensating (causing pain) for their lack of usefulness. Hopefully it will result in a nicer arse too rather than the slightly porridgey one I currently own. Worth a try for other knee pain sufferers of unknown origin. Just look up glute activation for relevant exercises.

Im hoping for a decent weigh in tomorrow for last day of January. It's likely to be 6 lindas off, nudging towards 7 if I'm lucky (noting that this is almost all xmas extras rather than any actual proper loss). Either way, my stomach is much flatter and my winter running leggings are a bit loose around the waist.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/01/2018 13:07

I also have dodgy knees. I run 5 times a week. They only get really freaky if I don’t run.

In fact I’m just back from my treadmill HIIT class. Another 5km.

I feel really focused and determined this week. Hope you’re all clinging to the wagon

I had a dream last night that I ate absolutely loads of crisps and was really cross with myself Blush Grin Was quite relieved to find it wasn't real! I can't remember dreaming about food before, I must be losing the plot!

HairsprayBabe · 30/01/2018 13:27

I did my knee in at about 17... in a wildly embarrassing drunken entanglement in the park with my then boyfriend. Wink that I still vividly remember I was somewhat of a wild child!

Have never had it looked at but it hurts if I keep it bent for too long.

It is worse if I have walked on it a lot and was positively screaming last time I did a 2k run.

NewYearNiki · 30/01/2018 14:39

I think you need to see a dr hairspray.
