The diet begins Boxing Day! Lose weight, stay happy

So after a really crap year where I had a severe depressive episode, I’ve ended up mentally much healthier but heavier due to my medication (mirtzapine). Oh, and my obscene addiction to sugar!! I’m finally in a place where I feel I can tackle my weight gain. Having braved the scales yesterday I weighed in at 10st 7lb - I was 9st in April, so quite a gain. I’m 5ft 3 and this gives me a BMI of 26 (so in the overweight category!)

Target weight is 8st 7lb so want to lose 2st. First mini goal is 10st by end of January.

I plan to follow a HFLC diet as this should help me tackle my sugar additiction once and for all. I have terrible problems with blood sugar and lots of people say this clears up on the diet. Am going to use India Knights idiot proof diet book after a recommendation here.

I can’t wait til next year so I have 4 more days to wallow in Christmas biscuits then Boxing Day will start my diet! We have a family meal out that day which could be interesting...I’m not planning to mention it in RL so will use this as a diary. Please feel free to post, join in, give support (flowers emojis rather than biscuits please or I may end up nibbling on my iPad) etc.

Sage hilarious vision! And they were the nude (or see through!) I was much more concerned about my undies than my dress (which was a £6.50 second hand number) Grin. Sound so like you know the reason for the slight uplift in scale numbers so hopefully that will settle down this week.

Pavonia congrats on another 2lb - well done! You are definitely making progress - almost 5% of your weight loss target in a couple of weeks!

Weigh in day:
Scale says: 9 10 and 1/8
Weight loss this week: 2 and 7/8 lb
Total weight loss: 10 and 7/8 lb
Remaining weight to lose: 19 and 1/8 lb

Have a very slinky skirt on couldn’t fit into a few weeks ago and wearing with a lovely Boden jumper picked up for £6 in a charity shop yesterday. Feeling so much happier with my figure already. Have a good week everyone and look forward to hearing how you are getting on.

Well done Hattie it's great when it makes a difference to your clothes! Tangible progress rather than just a number on the scales.

AnotherPlaceAnotherTime · 22/01/2018 08:45

I know I’m late to this thread but can I join please? I’ve hit an all time high with my weight and need to lose at least three stone.

I’m 6 foot but have tipped the scales this morning at 17.9! 😱 I have never been this heavy in my life and I’m determined I never will again.

Well done to everyone on their losses so far.

PinkHeart5914 · 22/01/2018 13:29

Well done on your loss Hattie and it is such a lovely feeling when you can get back in to items of clothing.

Welcome AnotherPlace

I’ve done 10 miles on the exercise bike this morning I will do another 10 this evening 😇 DH is home still at the moment on paternity leave so I can find time to exercise as he watches the baby and toddlers, it will be harder when he returns to work in a few weeks!

Pavonia · 22/01/2018 13:32

AnotherPlace the more the merrier! Are you following a specific diet?

AnotherPlaceAnotherTime · 22/01/2018 14:08

Thanks for the welcome. Smile

Pavonia · 23/01/2018 16:26

I've just got my period and it's parents evening at school today. I just know I'm going to be craving wine and/or cake later.

PinkHeart5914 · 23/01/2018 19:37

Hope the parents evening went ok Pavonia

FiveShelties · 23/01/2018 20:40

I stayed the same so still 10st 7.2lbs. The week-end was definitely off plan so I am grateful to have stayed the same!

Well done Hattie you are doing really well. Welcome Another.

Pink that is a lot of cycling - I felt tired reading about it Sage - apologies had to laugh at you getting lost on your run - that is just what would happen to me! I could be gone for years - luckily I only walk not run, so would not end up too far away - hopefully.Grin

Pavonia · 23/01/2018 20:50

Pink thanks it was fine (although I find them a bit stressful) and although I went to the shop on the way home I resisted buying anything off plan. I treated myself to some tinned fruit for pudding! I'm in awe of your cycling, I definitely need to increase my exercise.

Five some weeks staying the same is an achievement, well done!

FiveShelties · 24/01/2018 09:29

Thank you Pavonia, to be honest, I deserved to gain so very happy to stay the same. Pleased you survived parents' evening and enjoy your pudding - you were very restrained.

PinkHeart5914 · 25/01/2018 16:10

Well done for staying the same Five Some weeks its all you can do and better than gaining.

Hope your all doing ok Smile

Today;
Porridge with berries
Beans on toast, special k bar
Few crisps
Dinner is going to be Thai green curry with lots of veggies, 2 spoons of rice
I’ve got a creme caramel pot for dessert

Done 10 miles on the exercise bike 😇

DownstairsMixUp · 25/01/2018 17:35

Hiya everyone I totally forgot about this thread! I started placement early January (student nurse)

So I started diet on New Year's Day at 11stone8

Drum roll...

I am now bang on 11 stone! That was on Tuesday!

How is everyone else doing ?

I haven't ate an awful lot today. I had some crackers at lunch and they were awful so didn't eat them.

Breakfast: one biscuit with coffee (couldn't be bothered)

Lunch: sun bites popcorn, small slither of cheese and 10 cal jelly

Dinner: sweet potato mash, beans and cauliflower crispy grill

Drinks usual water, two coffees no sugar and a zero sugar energy drink

SageYourResoluteOracle · 26/01/2018 06:44

Gah! Manic week and was up at 5:20 to head off to run a training session (not of the fitness kind). Weighed in this morning- a pound off... on I plod! As I said earlier in the week, things always grind to a halt when I start up 'serious' (pah- Phoebe from friends, I'm more like) running so at least the scales are now going in the right direction!

Almost at my train stop so have to be quick: welcome to newbies, welcome to returners: @PinkHeart5914 - well done for you with your cycling!

Can't scroll as on phone but @AnotherPlaceAnotherTime, I think it was- 8lb is brilliant! And during a nursing placement can't be easy either.

@FiveShelties - you laugh away. It was funny! And we just did simple circuits on Tuesday so getting lost was an impossibility!

@HattietheManatee How goes it?

Have a good weekend everyone. I'm ending dry January tonight as this month has gone on long enough but don't worry- I've factored it in to my fitness frenemy..

SageYourResoluteOracle · 26/01/2018 06:45

Meant @DownstairsMixUp re 8lb and nursing placement!

Welcome @AnotherPlaceAnotherTime

SageYourResoluteOracle · 26/01/2018 06:47

@Pavonia brilliant restraint after parents evening- did anyone bring you bribes I mean, treats? I used to have parents who would bring in tubs of amazing curries and homemade chappati mmmmmmmm

AnotherPlaceAnotherTime · 26/01/2018 07:15

Well done everyone! I wish I’d lost 8lb. Smile

I’m -2lb since Monday so I’m pleased with that.

DownstairsMixUp · 26/01/2018 08:50

Thanks everybody!

2lbs is still a loss and in the right direction! I'm not expecting it next time, placment nerves being new killed my appetite a bit and I've been really pushing exercise. Anyone else do Charlotte Crosby's dvd? I don't like Geordie shore etc but the Fitbit says I burn a good 540 calories doing it!

PinkHeart5914 · 27/01/2018 18:03

Well done on your loss AnotherPlace & you Downstairs

Yesterday I didn’t even bother logging on my fitness pal, it featured much wine, chocolate and pizza.

Today;
Special k with full fat milk
Veg soup, 1 slice bread & a banana
6 mini Jaffa cakes
Dinner is going to be chicken breast with a 5 spice rub, few wedges, peas and corn cobs
Smoothie ice lolly later in the evening

I’ve done 10 miles on the exercise bike and will try to do some more before bed

DownstairsMixUp · 27/01/2018 23:58

Well done pink that's a lot of exercise so you've probably earned some of that pizza and wine! I also had the night off, went out for my nans birthday which featured curry and gin! I'm only weighing every 2 weeks as I like seeing bigger losses so I won't be weighing now till 6th February

Pavonia · 29/01/2018 07:21

Weigh-in day (week 4):

Current weight: 10 stone 2 lb
Lost this week: 1 lb
Lost to date: 6 lb
Still to lose: 23 lb

This week has been hard as I had my period and it felt like I was making no progress or going backwards. I'm pleased to have finished the week a pound down. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will be more straightforward.

I have had no treats (pudding, choc, cake, biscuits, wine) at all in January so I may allow myself something once February starts but I need to work out whether I can do that safely!

AnotherPlaceAnotherTime · 29/01/2018 12:43

Well done pavonia

SageYourResoluteOracle · 29/01/2018 13:30

@Pavonia you're doing brilliantly & of course you can have the odd treat- this HAS to be about eating that is sustainable not all or nothing. Just factor it in to your calorie count.

Last weeK's discovery for me was Nakd Lemon Drizzle Bars- 133 cals. Damn fine sweet treat but not dreadful for you as there are nuts which counter the sugar in the dried fruit a wee bit!

Weigh in on Friday& have running club tomorrow and a dance class on Wednesday. Let's see how this 'back on track' week goes.

Hope all's well with everyone else.

How ya doing @HattietheManatee?

PinkHeart5914 · 29/01/2018 15:55

Well done on your loss Pavonia
Sage I’ve had those lemon drizzle bars they are nice. Naked do carrot cakes ones too they weren’t bad either but I’ve only ever seen the carrot cake ones in the local cafe here , I’ve had no luck in sainsburys or waitrose.

I’ve had
Today;
Special k with full fat milk. 3 coffee ( milk no sugar)
Chicken salad sandwich, 6 mini Jaffa cakes
Dinner is going to be chicken jambalaya
Smoothie ice lollies have been made for my evening treat.

I have been for a walk pushing the Pram with dh and all 3 dc today, I will do my exercise bike aiming for 10 miles a little bit later. My baby is 6 weeks old tomorrow and dh is going back to work next week after his paternity leave so I will be alone with the dc, I’m hoping with mil help I’ll still find time to exercise.

Will weigh myself tomorrow as I forgot this morning
