Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

I've stayed the same this week which is not surprising as I've bern grazing all week for some reason.

Well done all on your losses.

honeysucklejasmine · 10/02/2018 15:02

Well done on the losses, and welcome new posters.

Had the last slices of loaf this morning with some baked beans. Had 2 slices, as had enough calories to spend on it. Yummers.

I'd like to have porridge, I bought some oats. But DS has CMPA and I am rather unwilling to try it with milk substitute. I don't mind it in my tea but not sure I want it in porridge.

I had a sneaky step on the scales this morning and I'm a few lbs down so interested to see what my official Monday weigh in will be. Just need DS to cooperate and eat his bloody breakfast properly so I'm not weighing an extra lb of breast milk. 🙄😂

PostNotInHaste · 10/02/2018 18:16

Well done you losers and STSers!

Welcome Lilabet2, Savingmyself, GroovyLass, good time to be starting - you’ll be more comfortable this summer if we get any heat (hard to imagine at the moment). All that stuff about smaller plates and eating slowly does help. Take it steady, the tortoise and the hare or whatever they were. The aim of the game is to get through all the things that life throws at you and keep on keeping on. I recommend measuring yourself as good to look back on and handy when the scales refuse to move. Take it one stone at a time.

Honeysuckle I don’t know how you managed whilst teaching. I was working in a hospital when pregnant with DD and used to be sitting there with people who had kindly come all the way in despite lots of pain to help with a research project and all I could think of sometimes was that I hoped I wasn’t going to throw up over them. For snacks what about mini Babybel light (42 each) with cherry toms, Aldi Cheese curls (like quavers a bit, 69 cal) if you have a crisp urge, ricecake with low fat houmous and cucumber, a few almonds for picky bits, fruit with small amount of Greek yoghurt, sugar free jelly with fruit, crumpet, Melba toast. Good advice from AnotherOtter about swaps to make. I have porridge for breakfast regularly- 30g oats, 5g sugar, 1 chopped apple and just under a cup of water, about 4 mins in the microwave. Not keen on milk so generally don’t have it apart from tea and get my calcium in other ways

AnotherOtter glad this week going ok. It is a bit of an eye opener how much you can actually eat at maintenance when you’re used to a deficit. If you decide to do another week or two maintaining it will still be a worthwhile exercise and give you more data to work from at a later stage. I’ve been thinking recently that we hear so much about losing weight when really we need to hear more about maintaining.

Tractors glad Friday went OK and fingers crossed for the next stage. That does seem like a long process. Impressed you were fighting the takeaway urge !

Notanurse really pleased to hear about your DD, what a relief for you. Mine had an interview this week so does now have a place on a foundation degree for next year if she wants it which is a relief, another interview to go plus waiting to hear if through to another round for an apprenticeship. I found all of a sudden everyone started commenting on the weight loss, it got a bit surreal after a point. Tailed off now finally as I’ve totally slowed down and they are getting used to the new me. Any sign of op date for you?

Don’t know where I am weight wise. The AF weight was starting to go but it has been a really hectic week and I’ve been eating at maintenance in theory but a bit sloppy in the recording and put away much to much sugar and gluten which I don’t tolerate particularly well. So back to it today .

Have had some good news. Saw Consultant and he thinks i’m a good candidate for Fibroid Embolisation so being referred for that. Really hope it works for me as only other option is hysterectomy and because of position etc unlikely to get it out any other way other than a vertical incision , though said he would try if comes to it. Don’t fancy the long recovery from that so hoping embolisation does the job to shrink enough to relieve symptoms and don’t get an infection following it as friend did.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 10/02/2018 23:00

Thanks all - I did indeed cook last night and have something prepped for the slow cooker tomorrow (chipotle lentil daal) so all good! I'm also feeling less enamoured with this whole interview process, and actually spotted another job..and I've now applied for it Shock

Post will keep my fingers crossed for you! notanurse so pleased for you and DD, I've been thinking of her. honey - fingers crossed for you too!

Hope everyone else out there is doing ok, I'm so heartened (is that a word?!) by the positive vibes coming off this thread, you really are all so instrumental in keeping me (and others) going. KOKO!

Oooh post I like the sound of that porridge! Will try that on Monday. (Weekends are made for bacon). Was entertained to read on mfp that cooking counts as exercise, as does walking with a baby. That's me sorted then 😂

Good luck with the job Tractors, that other interview process sounds tedious!

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 11/02/2018 09:58

Loss this week- 8oz
Total- 43lbs
To lose- 57lbs

Disappointed but have had a couple of 3lb losses this month so will KOKO.
Strange that I generally eat the same but have such different losses.

Tractors your tight this thread is a fantastic support Flowers

AnotherOtter · 11/02/2018 12:29

Starting weight: 241lbs
Current weight: 164.6lbs
Loss this week: 0.6lbs
Total loss: 76.4lbs
To go: 24.6lbs

Had my week of maintenance and my weight is down half a pound. Might be a water fluctuation or, as I posted the last time, I've not got the right numbers. I found the week very reassuring and much easier than eating at a deficit. I logged everything in MFP which I am sure I'm going to have to do permanently as my natural appetite cues just don't work after years of dieting/disordered eating/eating disorders. I'm going to try a week of dieting again as I feel I can't put everything on hold for my bloody mood (I have spent my life doing that!). But I know I can swap back to maintenance if I need to.

Welcome Groovy. Breaking the total weight down into smaller chunks/goals is a great idea and I think quite a few people on this thread have found that helpful.

Notanurse, my heart sinks every time someone says "have you lost weight?". I don't like the scrutiny either. There's so much judgement bound up in food choices and weight loss. I'd much rather go on kidding myself that no one pays the slightest bit of attention to what I look like. That is brilliant news about your DD! What a relief for you all.

Honey, I'm the opposite to you in that if I can manage a milk substitute in tea then it's grand in porridge or cereal. There's quite a difference between the brands in almond, rice and soya I've found so perhaps worth trying a few? There's hazelnut as well though I've not tried it.

Post, you are right! I would love to have a lot more information about maintaining weight. Nutrition is not a mature science at all. Congratulations to your DD on getting a place and good luck for her next interview. I hope the embolization works for you and you don't have to have an open hysterectomy.

Good luck with the job application, Tractors.

Well done to those with losses and to those who are KOKO, it's tough but we'll get there Thanks

BreakingSad · 11/02/2018 15:45

Hello and welcome newbies and well done to all the losers and keep at it those that have STS.

Notanurse so pleased for your Dd and* your Dd PostNot*. You never stop worrying about your children no matter how old they are.

Notractors you rock so much positive attitude and get up and go. Good luck on the job front.

AnotherOtter glad your week of maintenance went well. Logging is what I'll have to do for life as well.

Keep going Chesty as people have said upthread, weight loss is definitely not linear.

Honey hope you find an alternative for your porridge, I love my morning porridge. Your breakfast meatloaf sounded lovely.

I've gained 1 lb this week, I did so well last week with all my eating out and keeping on top of it. But this week when out, had a few f**@k* it moments and didn't log diligently enough. One more meal to go, then back to normal, which I'm sure my digestive system will be thankful for Grin

BreakingSad · 11/02/2018 15:49

Complete bold fail

honeysucklejasmine · 11/02/2018 18:19

I daresay porridge would taste fab with what I use - Oatly Barista - but it's so damn expensive and hard to get hold of I don't want to use so much at once! 😂 Agree it's time to try some others.

Weigh in tomorrow morning.

honeysucklejasmine · 12/02/2018 07:38

I've lost 3lb this week. Someone give me a slap, I'm disappointed! I think because I weighed myself half way through week and it was 3lbs then, and it's not gone down any further, so it feels like I've only met half my potential! Hmm

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 12/02/2018 10:05

honey I will slap you! 3lbs is fab - losing 6lbs in a week isn’t sustainable in the long term, and is quite often just water loss, which comes back and bites like a bitch! (personal experience there) You’re doing this for the long haul, steady does it!

lilabet2 · 12/02/2018 15:27

Oh I forgot to update this: I was 14st 10lbs last week and I'm 14st 7 and a quarter now.

I'm inspired by other people's great losses!

honeysucklejasmine · 12/02/2018 15:29

Thank you Tractors, you are absolutely right!

Well done Lilabet

Sorry, am around but all a bit hectic. Back properly very soon.

AnotherOtter · 14/02/2018 12:48

Honey, I'll give you a belated slap too for thinking 3lbs isn't good enough! It's a lot and second slap more than recommended in a week! I'm a big believer in slow and steady gets there in the end. Us folk who have a lot to lose have to be in it for the long haul. I'm definitely going to copy your breakfast loaf now though.

Fair enough to pull out of that interview process, Tractors. It does sound like they were taking the piss. That's great the diet is doing well and that the drop in caffeine is helping your sleep. It's hard to stop caffeine as it is such a social thing but I found my sleep improved a lot too.

I'm back to eating a calorie deficit this week and finding it dull and frustrating. I have yet more family staying this week yes my house is like a fucking hotel and finding my mother's 'helpful comments' tough. We have/had a tacit understanding that there was to be no talk of dieting but she asked me if I had lost weight as if she was delighted so I am having very conflicted feelings. I told her I didn't want to talk about it with her. Also trying not to pass on my family's general unhealthy attitude to food to the next generation. If I was sensible, I'd go back to eating at maintenance but it feels like giving in. Someone slap me too please!

GrooovyLass · 14/02/2018 18:29

My first weigh in, although it's over 2 weeks, and I've lost 7 1/2 lbs. I'm very very happy with myself! 6 1/2 lbs to go for my first target and 132 1/2 to go to my ultimate target, which sounds horrifically scary which is why I break it down!

PostNotInHaste · 15/02/2018 08:00

Well done GroovyLass, that’s a great start! Keep doing what you’re doing focusing on manageable chunks.

Tractors I want some of your energy please Grin Sounds sensible to withdraw, That was sounding like very hard work.

Well done on the loss Lilabet2

AnotherOtter if you were at the weight you wanted to be and were maintaining at that weight would you see that as a success? How many times have you started losing weight, life got tough , you had a fuck it moment that into a fuck it day which went to a fuck it week and into a fuck it months - net result diet oblivion? Maintenance is a really important tool, it definitely isn’t giving in Having said that I think some relationships involving Mothers and food are very complex and I can see why you wouldn’t want to do maintenance when she is there. What about mixing things up a bit? Some new recipes to try, but if extra exercise if possible plus a meal out or a takeaway. You could do some days at maintenance and others with a small deficit. Or eat at maintenance and squeeze in an extra walk if possible so you get a small deficit, whatever grabs you.

*Honeysucklejasmine Tractors has given you your slap and Otters given you a talking to so I shall refrain! Totally agree with the slow and steady thing. You don’t want to be losing muscle mass and this loss needs to be sustainable. 1-2lbs a week does the job nicely though it isn’t linear and really important not to mentally beat yourself up when thevscales ‘should’ have moved and don’t. You’re disappointed now instead of being really pleased with a more than average loss, this is where dodgy thinking which leads to sabotage starts creeping in. I found at one point my hair was coming out, that was aiming for 2lbs a week, at one point it became too much for my body so I had to aim for a pound max. You’ve had a baby not that long ago and your body needs time to recover, slow and steady definitely the name of the game.

BreakingSad, well done for not letting the fuck it moments escalate and getting back on track. I guess this is what naturally thin people do without thinking, though talking to some of my friends who are, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not a case of not thinking about it, it is conscious but just what they always do so it feels natural.

Chesty have we celebrated you being at the 3 stone mark, not sure we did, well done ! I’m finding huge fluctuations currently throughout the month but I think this is because my hormones are completely fucked not to put too fine a point on it!

Last weighed a couple of days ago where the nearly 4lbs that had gone on waiting for late period had come off and was back where I started from. I’m ‘owed’ a pound or a bit less depending what happens to food today and tomorrow. However i’ve Started bleeding again which I’m not sure is mid cycle ovulation bleeding as the right time for it or whether I’m having an actual period. Certainly have all the carb cravings. It’s all a bit crap and i’m Not making much downward progress at the moment but I figure it can’t last forever , just need to ride it and stay about the same. Feel completely done with it all and very jealous of friends who are through the other side of it all but it is what it is.

PostNotInHaste · 15/02/2018 18:16

Im probably behind the game but sweet popcorn as snack when hormones are raging.

BoredOnMatLeave · 16/02/2018 08:25

No idea when i last checked in, sorry! Welcome newcomers and congrats on losses.

Start weight 232lb
Today's weight 192lb
Total Loss 40lb

2lb to go til I hit that 3 stone mark. And I am currently sat at work in a pair of size 14 jeans! (albiet Matalan so a bit of vanity sizing)
I am going to try and be really strict for lent and see how much I can lose.

Otter, Post you are completely correct. Slow and steady! Disappointment at a "lack" of progress leading to sabotage has definitely been my undoing in the past.

We had a takeaway curry on valentine's Day. Not had one for ages as they are full of ghee but turns out there's an Indian by my husband's work with an extensive vegan menu. Yum. Didn't go mad, but I expect to see the scales haven't moved far on Monday.

I am definitely upping my vegetables at the moment. Fewer calories so am bulking my meals out with them. It's a revelation - I've only done SW before so had no idea how calorific some things (like meat) are. I mean, I know streaky bacon isn't healthy, but things like eggs, chicken breast, chickpeas... Not exactly low calorie either!

AnotherOtter I made another batch today. Found actually that it's potentially cheaper and definitely lower calorie to buy pork loin medallions/boneless chops, remove the fat and blitz them, rather than pork mince. Looking forward to my Saturday morning breakfast already!

Lately I've also been having a wholemeal wrap with bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and an egg (crack in pan, break yolk, dry fry) and a bit of ketchup. Really filling and tasty. Feels decadent but is around 400-450 calories.
