Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

I'm no doctor, but I'd guess your heart rate is high because you're feeling anxious? Take some deep breaths and make a plan.

As others have said, trying to change everything overnight is bloody hard and it's a lot more manageable to make small, incremental steps.

Focus on health. What can you manage which is a step in the right direction for your health?

Make sure you give your body what it needs, so if for example sugar is your downfall, have your fix of cake/chocolate whatever, but also make sure you are eating vegetables and protein and drinking water. How many steps do you do a day? Add 1000 and try it for a week. Maybe yoga would be a good one for you.

Given how you are feeling, I would focus purely on what you can do to improve your health rather than dieting or depriving.

P.s. What a fantastic loss notanuse!

Hercy · 25/11/2017 21:06

And as for the scales, I wouldn't worry to much. I find the heavier I am, the more mine jumps up and down by a few pounds, and that they seem more reliable with less jumping the less I weigh.

I just keep them in the same place, wiggle about until I procure the lowest reading and go with that😂 If you do the same thing every time, it'll tell you what you need to know. For now, it really doesn't matter if your scales say you're as much as a stone lighter or heavier than you really are, you just need to know that you're going in the right direction and understand what works for you.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 26/11/2017 00:28

Thank you Hercy xx

I’ve been frantically googling which is doing me absolutely no good, I’m hoping to find somewhere to weigh myself this week-i just want to know 100% what my starting weight is and go from there

Im still so scared of a heart attack or stroke but that last not helping my blood pressure or palpitations! Oh god I hope I haven’t left it too late

Starting weight: 241lb
Current weight: 180.8lb
Loss this week: 1lb
Total loss: 60.2lb

Good week for me. Set myself a mini-goal of 12st 9.4lb by the end of the year which would give me a BMI of 29.9. Yeah, I know BMI is shite for individuals but I like numbers.

Really well done on your five stone off, Notanurse! That is fantastic, great achievement Smile

Great advice for Lego from Post, Tractors, Notanurse and Hercy. You sound really down and overwhelmed, Lego Flowers Where you say you want to know your "true weight" before you start makes me remember how I was told that all scales give you estimates and will have errors. The only way to get a fully accurate number is to go into some big contraption in a lab. The absolute number doesn't even matter really, it's the change over time that tells you if your method is causing your weight to decrease. For example, my GP's scales always weigh me 3lb lighter than my own but the hospital's weigh me about 1-2lb lighter (it varies). It doesn't matter that these (very expensive) scales don't agree as long as the numbers are consistently wrong meaning it's always 3lb under or always 2lb under, etc. So get a board or square of plywood for under your scale or simply just line them up on the lino in the same spot each time, like me, and try to accept there will be some variables you can't control. Things don't have to be perfect to make a start. I know you are terrified that you already have some damage to your body but even if that were true (and it's most likely not as I think you said you're not even 30 yet) then making a change to your weight would still help. You don't have to have all the answers right now. Like Maya Angelou said, "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." You can do this, we all can. This time next week, Boris could be gone and you could be in the process of telling Bertha to fuck right off too. Hang in there and make a start Flowers

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 26/11/2017 14:22

I just stood on a scale in the middle of a packed Boots next to the queue. I’m bizarrely proud!!

According to this scale my weight is 323.7 and the home ones 2w ago were anything from 322-343 so I’m going by these ones

Thank you you wonderful lot xxx

AnotherOtter · 26/11/2017 16:09

Well done, Lego, that is brilliant! You're going to do great Smile

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 26/11/2017 20:57

Go lego! Grin

Right, I'm kicking Bertha's arse this week - she's hung around for long enough, and it's time to say 'off you fuck cunty chops' Wink

I know we don't sear much on here, but swearing is strangely motivating!

Lego that is really great well done! Keep going and just take it one day at a time trying not to put too much pressure on yourself.

Go Tractors Grin

I ate double what I burned off yesterday so sorting that today, aiming for half a Bertha this week. Had a week off running as my knee is dodgy nad I wanted to see if resting helped but got back out there this morning and found some bags of manure on the way which I went back after and got after for my raised beds. So a productive morning so far and not 7.30am. Hoping the productivity lasts long enough for me to finish my tax return later!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 28/11/2017 10:22

Morning everyone!

I’m trying hard!

I’ve taken a packed lunch into work today and yesterday which seems to be helping me not reach for random crap!

It’s also helped, filling in MFP at the very start of the day then I stick to it, this may not work long term but it’s working today so that’s ok!

A friend has asked if I want to meet for dinner at Nando’s, I originally thought No as it’s not a healthy choice but I haven’t seen her in forever and if I stop doing things on that basis then this just won’t work!

I’ll eat the meal I love then move on and work extra hard the rest of the week

Have a great day!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 28/11/2017 12:54

Go you lego! Definitely a good idea to see your friend (as long as they aren't of the "guilt-trip" variety!) Maybe make up your mind what you're having before you go? Or make your usual choice a bit healthier? You might be surprised by some of the options Cosmo link - apologies!

I'm working from home today, which normally means dipping in and out of the kitchen Blush but today, instead of trawling the fridge, I'm making a big pot of soup Grin

KOKO everyone Smile

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 28/11/2017 13:02

Oh I really fancy soup! Only problem is the mound of crusty bread I add to it!!

Thank you for that article! There’s a new dish I’ve been dying to try before they take it off the menu, it’s atrociously high in calories though! Not sure switching my garlic bread and chips for rice and corn is going to make enough of a difference Hmm

I’m still very worried about my Blood Pressure and that my eyesight will be affected (or is...I’ve no idea wether I need a change in prescription or I’ve fucked my eyesight with a high no/ diabetes) but I figure i can’t make anything worse by trying to lose weight so I’m just KOKO!!

One thing that’s shocked me by calorie watching is the amount of calories in things! Genuinely shocked by that and how small most suggested portions are!! Granola is all well and good until you realise you’ve been eating about 5 portions!!

AnotherOtter · 28/11/2017 14:28

It was a shock to me about how calorific some foods are too! I remember looking at a recommended serving size of pasta and thinking wtf... Now I weigh those types of foods every time: pasta, rice, butter (I have digital scales that measure in grams), oil, mayonnaise, cheese, peanut butter, etc, etc. Okay, I don't weigh the peanut butter every time but at least once a week to check that I am still putting 30g on my toast. The second surprising thing is that now those portions sizes actually do make me feel full. At the beginning, I would have thought people saying that was bending the truth but it is actually true for me now.

Lego, many pharmacies offer a free blood pressure and/or diabetes check service. For example, Lloyds www.lloydspharmacy.com/en/info/blood-pressure-testing and www.lloydspharmacy.com/en/info/type-2-diabetes-testing Sorry, no idea how to do pretty links!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 28/11/2017 14:52

It's a sort of minestrone - so there will be a small amount of broken up pasta chucked in at the end to make up for the lack of bread Wink

I've also been shocked at portions I've been having - especially carb and protein sizes. I didn't used to do much in the way of weighing stuff out when cooking, but I've definitely shown myself that I don't have a natural eye for stuff like that! I've been letting that side slide, so getting back on it this week Smile

OP posts:
NoTractorsAtTheTable · 28/11/2017 18:14

I can report that I highly recommend making soup Grin exciting lives here

I've also got my arse in gear and done some proper meal-planning, including working out calories per portion. Feeling very smug Grin - but very motivated too!

Hercy · 29/11/2017 07:03

My scales seem to be broken, they haven't moved since last week!!

I have really struggled the last couple of days with pre TOTM hunger. I have managed to stay strong, but fuck me, it's hard! It's so much more difficult trying to lose weight When hormones are against you, men have it so much easier. Down with men!

/end rant/

Ugghh having a difficult week for some reason - although last night I had an evening to myself for a change and feeling quite proud that I didn't order Domino's.....it was literally sitting in the basket waiting to be ordered and I closed the webpage.

I made myself a big prawn stir-fry with lots of rice noodles and a mango/pineapple smoothie for 'desert' and got stuck into trying to sew on a zip

Hercy · 29/11/2017 13:41

My rant may have been a little premature, as I weighed myself just after writing that and I'm down 2lbs from yesterday.

It's weird/good/bad how that goes isn't it notanurse you eat healthily for so long that when you do decide to treat yourself to something it makes you feel ill. I'm currently debating whether to have a blow out meal on Friday, but know there's a good chance it will derail me or make me ill. Or possibly both!

Moonlight nights to myself are always my biggest dangerzone (see above re Friday!) so well done to you for sticking with it!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 30/11/2017 16:38

I can report that we are now quite bored of minestrone soup Blush - carrot and butternut squash is next on the menu Grin

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 01/12/2017 17:55

Well done Breaking! I hopped on the scales this morning and think I've seen off a "Bertha" too - but tomorrow is the proper weigh in Wink

Hope you're all doing well, and my wittering about soup hasn't scared you all off Grin
