Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

FireflyGirl · 10/09/2017 19:56

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

Can I join? Down from 12.4 about two years ago to 10.4 in the spring thanks to a combo of Ashtanga yoga, walking and vegan-ish eating.

But a sedentary office job started in June has brought my weight back up to 10.11...

...plus I just can't stop stuffing my face at work! I'm like a cow chewing the cud. I notice I eat far more than my workmates, and even drink more tea / coffee. I can't do half the poses at yoga because my giant stomach gets in the way, and I'd really like it not to be there. So a stone by Christmas would be amaze.

I'm also going to do Sober October because I love wine way, waaaaaay too much, and really don't need all those extra calories. Sob. Bye wine - you'll be missed!

HarrietBasset · 27/09/2017 07:53

Welcome to anyone new and best of luck.

I'm about to do I run two of the Couch to 5K after the school run weighed in this morning and have lost 2 pounds since last week hooray! food today is yoghurt and granola and then a banana after my run, lunch is soup and a roll and dinner tonight is chili con carne with not too much brown rice and enough calories left over for some
Chocolate tonight. I've got some raspberries and garibaldi biscuits in case I need a snack. X

YessicaHaircut · 27/09/2017 08:50

Morning all - hope everyone's ok!
A small loss for me this week after overindulging at the weekend (boozy night out followed by 2 days of feeling rotten and trying desperately to get back on track).
Start: 13st6
20/09: 13st2.8
27/09: 13st2

At least it's going in the right direction I guess! Can't wait to get into the 12s...

JugglingMummyof2 · 27/09/2017 10:37

It feels very slow but some progress I suppose...
Start: 9st 11
Week 1: 9st 9.8
Week 2: 9st 8.4
On the plus side I feel I am eating well aside from the burrito, cake and crisps at the weekend😇🤑

twinkledag · 27/09/2017 10:44

I have been reading just not posting!

I lost 1.5lbs this week.

Baked a cake with DS yesterday and didn't eat any! The beauty of low carb is you don't feel like it :)

CbeebiesAddict · 28/09/2017 09:38

Well done on the losses everyone! Star

azealeas123 · 28/09/2017 09:43

I would like to join too. I am 5 foot 3 and weigh a horrendous 13 stones. I have never been this heavy and feel awful. Unfortunately I have a holiday in early Nov which won't help, but any weight lost by Xmas would be great. I will start tomorrow so weigh in day will be Friday.

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 28/09/2017 12:57

Well done on all the losses everyone!

I have had a wee wobble this morning and had a pastry at a staff meeting. I should have resisted but gave into temptation. I really just need to stay on track for the rest of the day as my usual response to one mistake is to carry on eating rubbish for the whole day. I need to learn how to accept a blip is a blip and get back on the wagon rather than use it a trigger to the flood gates opening.

So I am about to go for lunch and need to make a low cal choice so Sushi or Salad I think and stick to my dinner plan of cod, green veg and a few small potatoes.

Hope everyone is having a better day!

HarrietBasset · 28/09/2017 19:23

Not a bad day here, yoghurt and granola for breakfast and after work this morning I did the 3rd part of my Couch to 5K week one which increased my steps for the day.

I had a chicken salad wrap for lunch and one of those Alpro chocolate dessert things which is surprisingly chocolatey and luxurious for 98 calories. I've got spaghetti bolognese tonight and enough calories over for some chocolate. I've done 14000 steps today so earned a few more than usual got to try not to eat them all back! weighing in first thing tomorrow as I've got a bloody Macmillan cake event on in the morning so will no doubt slip up then....
Hope everybody else is doing ok well done on the losses and hang in there for those who are struggling x

KeiraTwiceKnightley · 29/09/2017 06:56

Finally I have a loss to report. 11st7.4 this morning. That's a pound this week and about 3 overall. So s-l-o-w, but heading in the right direction. And I ended up on my gyms fb page doing a plank challenge - 2mins15secs so fame as well as weight loss this week. Grin

Tinkhasflown · 29/09/2017 09:36

Well done on all the losses.
Despite all my good efforts I STS this week which is very disheartening. Hopefully I see a decent loss next week Hmm

martellandginger · 29/09/2017 10:01

I haven't posted for a week but name changed since then - was beachy.

Anyway thought I'd post as we're coming into the weekend and they are always my downfall.

So, I've decided no alcohol this weekend or chocolate. Or eating out. I had a burger and chips with pudding last Friday and its taken me all week to get rid of. It was a nice burger but desperately want to see a new stone over the next 2 weeks.

Can't remember if I've posted my losses but since 12th Sep when I joined thread I've lost 7lbs.

Food for today
B: dry fried egg of multigrain bread.
L: 4 multispeed crackers, 1 laughing cow, 4 thing slices of chicken, 8 small tomato and cucumber chunks.
D: count on us curry with extra broccoli, babycorn and maybe tomato.
Treat: not sure yet probably popchips 70 cals and kit kat 107 cals.

I'm going to make myself accountable by checking in on Monday morning with my loss or gain or stayed the same. Have a good weekend x

Sillysausage123 · 29/09/2017 10:28

I'm updating with something positive. I had a bag of French fries yesterday and immediately after I thought I might as well have another bag but I quickly thought if I go down that road I will have wasted all this hard work.
I didn't have another bag (or bags) as I would normally have done and I don't feel any guilt that I've had a bag of crisps as I've stopped at one bag which I never do.
I'm hoping this is the start of me being allowed to occasionally have treats and stopping after.
I think this is a new start for me

twinkledag · 29/09/2017 10:47

I've been doing ok apart from yesterday when Macmillan Coffee morning hit arrrggggh!

Back on it today, started the day with porridge and a bowl of strawberries.

FireflyGirl · 29/09/2017 13:33

Well done on the great losses this week, Iheart, martell and twinkle .

Snacking seems to be a big issue for a few of us. It's such a bad habit to get into.

Welcome Rasko and azaleas

Warm, could you replace the wine with something else that's nice to drink? Aldi do a sparkling water that's pineapple and coconut, or something similar, and it's lovely. I often drink that instead of alcohol on a Friday night.

Well done on the loss, Harriet, and your couch to 5K. I'm impressed with your dedication.

You're doing great, George, Yessica and Juggling.

Tink it could be one of so many reasons. Give it until next week, and you should see the results.

SillySausage it's so great that you've made that decision, and stayed in control.

A lot of people are saying about it seeming slow, but remember we're well on track to lose a stone by Christmas, and the steadier it comes off, the more likely it is to stay off, because you're not crash dieting, you're changing your habits and that's what's going to make this sustainable.

I've not been on the thread due to a rather bad week, and I've not been doing particularly great nutrition wise, but I've been sticking more or less within my calories every day. As of tomorrow, I am completely back on track!

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 29/09/2017 15:08

Well done everyone!

Can I ask about dry fry eggs? How does that work?

I have what would traditionally be a boozy night out but I am going to stick to a few drinks. My issue isn't so much the night out it is the hungover binge the next day so really need to try and make sure I don't feel crap tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great weekend

tiggersdontlikehoney · 29/09/2017 15:43

Just re found this thread. 2 weeks in but I'm not doing so well I my own, so throwing hat into the ring.

Will weigh tomorrow, but around 11st and 5 3 in height. Aiming for 10st by Christmas Eve.

Today:
Breakfast: bowl of Shreddies, about 30g with 200ml whole milk
Lunch: smoothie made with about 3/4 banana, 150g raspberries, tbsp coconut.. Then a huge amount of Victoria sponge, about half a cake oops...
Drinks: 4 cups of tea, semi milk

Activity: 5,000 steps so far

My biggest weakness is buying junk and telling myself it's good DC or I'll eat it in portions, then scoffing it in a sitting.

Good luck to everyone on here :)

IheartCaptainHolt · 29/09/2017 19:59

Tiggers that was my problem re the junk too. I have come to the conclusion that I just can not have it in the house. If I want crisps then I buy a small bag as anything larger/multi pack just gets eaten in one go. It was hard at first but it's made all the difference and I feel so much better now.

Sillysausage123 · 29/09/2017 20:49

I have a Fitbit question if anyone can help as I'm new to Fitbit and I'm useless with new tech.
This is probably a stupid question but do I always need to have my phone with me whilst I'm walking and Bluetooth always on to record steps?

tiggersdontlikehoney · 29/09/2017 21:29

Iheart I need to develop the discipline not to buy it. It's crazy how my brain does something weird in a shop and suddenly I'm home with a cake the size of my head or box of ice creams Blush

Have raised the steps today to over 17,000 and eaten a healthy dinner (beef stew with a chunk of bread), so what's done is done. Aiming to really start thing thing tomorrow, see you there.

Silly I don't need the phone with my Fitbit to record steps because the Fitbit does that and saves the data, but to sync with my Fitbit account (dashboard) on another device would need to be near it.

rheasmummy · 29/09/2017 21:39

Hi ladies , weighed in today
Week 1 - 164 lbs
Week 2 - 161.5lbs
Week 3- 160lbs

I've struggled a bit this week. I'm on my period and craving crap. I know what you mean tiggers, I seem to be coming home from a shop with ridiculously sweet things. Really got to try and not buy it!

FireflyGirl · 29/09/2017 23:32

B: shreddies with almond milk, an apple
L: gammon salad, crisps,
D: tacos (leftover chicken/pulled pork)
S: 12x mint matchsticks

I'm trying to use down the freezer, so we're going to be eating a lot of leftovers and potentially odd combos over the next couple of weeks.

I buy chocolate that comes in easy servings and have a serving after dinner, and then I don't eat other rubbish as I'm looking forward to my evening treat.

Thanks fireflygirl -I'll try substituting so,ethic for the wine. Maybe kombucha with fizzy water as I don't want too much sugar

Weight: Down a pound to 10:11 this morning.
Exercise: Did Ashtanga every day except Monday, so winning at yoga.
Fails: Ate a giant Sainsbury's cookie at work yesterday, as it was someone's birthday. And three Hit biscuits the day before.
Question: Why are offices obsessed with biscuits and cake?

warmleatherette · 30/09/2017 08:59

Soethic? I mean 'something', obvs.

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 30/09/2017 19:17

Leatherette my office is terrible for biscuits and cake. There is always so many tempting me and I have no willpower, I have found it so hard this week.

I have survived today without too much damage, a toddlers party and a slight hangover are two things that normally mean I overeat or make bad choices.
