Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

FireflyGirl · 10/09/2017 19:56

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

I'd love to join, if I may.
I am currently undertaking a massive overhaul of my diet. Massive food issues (and binge drinker and all round sad sack).:)

I have not weighed myself for ages, but last time I did I was 13 stone. Need to lose 3.5 stone to be at my best weight, but a stone before christmas will do nicely!

I am aiming to really focus on healthy eating, nourishing myself, and not bingeing.

Today I am planning;

B- weetabix, natural yoghurt, fruit and honey
L- red lentil curried soup (made with coconut milk), a slice of sour dogh bread and a boiled egg or slice of ham.
D- maybe salmon with veg.... not sure but something like that anyway!

No exercise as I am immobile at the moment.

I am also aiming to cut out booze...... it triggers my over eating and adds calories! Pointless calories! I love herbal teas and sparkling water. I have revived my long-forgotten WW membership, but not to track obessively, mainly just to try and get back to something approaching normal portions.

I'dlove to join you. :) WI day Friday- I'll give myself a good week go!

ABitOfACyclePath · 22/09/2017 08:49

Weigh in for me today.

Week 1 (first weigh) 13st 7.6lbs
Week 2 13st 5.6lbs
-2lbs!!

Off to a good start I hope I can keep the momentum going. Some more fab losses well done all!

Carriemac · 22/09/2017 10:41

weight in - 13:3 to 13:1 this week. need to work on mid morning snacking .

AuntyElle · 22/09/2017 11:47

First weigh-in: 14 stone, 5'8".
Most I've ever weighed, by a long way. All due to binging on junk food.
Thanks for this thread.

HarrietBasset · 22/09/2017 12:06

Well done on the losses! Hello to any newbies.

I've just dragged my dog on a 45 minute walk. 7000 steps. Trying to offset some of my meal out tonight. It's curry so going to try and have a dry dish like a shashlick with not too much rice but no doubt I'll end up binging on poppadoms and naan Blush

I ended up having a small lunch box malt loaf for breakfast as got up too late and then rushed to get the kids to school and to see my first client.

boiled eggs and a slice of seeded toast for lunch trying not to snack now until the curry tonight but no doubt later this afternoon I'll be desperate for tea and biscuits!

I really struggle to stay motivated when I haven't lost like this week despite the fact that I know I had a pretty heavy weekend last weekend and it was inevitable. this is where in the past losing weight has proved difficult because as soon as I feel I'm failing at it everything gets thrown in the f* it bucket and i fall off the wagon. Determined not to this time....

OverinaFlash · 22/09/2017 12:26

silvertap good to have someone in the same boat, hopefully we can keep each other on track.

TwattyvonTwatofTwatsville · 22/09/2017 15:46

Can I join?

Am 10.2 stone, 5'6 and would LOVE to lose a stone, but would settle for 10lbs.

My friend has had great steady weight loss using MFP- do other posters recommend?

The other way I am considering is the Harcombe diet - any experience of this from users?

YessicaHaircut · 22/09/2017 16:52

Tonight's challenge...a night out at the theatre and then seeing my friend's metal band in a pub. I've not had a drink in a few weeks so going to try and be careful not to end up leathered and staggering to KFC!
Planning to have a healthy dinner in a minute and then stick to low-cal drinks: gin & slimline tonic, or vodka & soda, Diet Coke. Got some nice smoked salmon, eggs and avocados in for brunch tomorrow to try and avoid ordering Dominos 🤦‍♀️

Movablefeast · 22/09/2017 17:45

Love this thread, keep going - we are all moving in the same direction, toward better health - and slow and steady means we are much more likely to keep any weight lost off.

Twattyvon I find MFP really helpful for revealing hidden calories so you might be eating "healthy" food but just too much of it Grin well that was one of my failings. Two rounds of toast for example is a lot more calories than I realised.

Also after a while you build a bank of foods you eat a lot and so keeping a daily record is quick and easy.

CbeebiesAddict · 22/09/2017 18:52

Well done on all the weight loss! I am having an awful week due to other stuff going on which has really upset me so have just ordered Chinese Shock

Katenka · 22/09/2017 18:55

Hey everyone hope you are all ok.

Weigh in was yesterday so

Week 1 down 2.5lbs
Week 2 down 2lbs

So 4.5lbs in 2 weeks. I am happy with that.

Today's food

No breakfast
Lunch - veg lasagne
Dinner - heck chicken sausages and veg.

Snacks will be some fruit and probably some chocolate since its Friday! All counted though.

Silvertap · 22/09/2017 19:24

Evening all.

Well done on the losses everyone.

Am on here in the bath instead of making my way through the 26 cupcakes I baked for the school sale....which is next Friday not today!

Had a really yummy slow cooker sweet potato, lentil and spinach curry for tea.

To the person who asked about mfp - I found it really hard at first but now I'm a few months in it's so quick and easy to use as it's got my regular foods and recipes saved.

rheasmummy · 23/09/2017 20:59

HI all, weighed in on Friday
Week 1 - 164 lbs
Week 2 - 161.5lbs

So down 2.5lbs in first week. Well done on all the fab loses. Let's keep going:)

Sillysausage123 · 23/09/2017 21:04

Unsure whether to post this but feeling really down.
I'm huge at 19 stone and being really good but only loosing a pound here and there.
At my size compared to what I ate before and did no exercise I can't understand how I'm not losing at least 3 pounds a week.
I know slow and steady is best but at the start of losing weight I expected more than a few pounds considering how heavy I am and how much crap I have cut out.

Movablefeast · 23/09/2017 22:10

Sillysausage - glad you are here. Have you had a health check up before you try to lose weight, to make sure you are not suffering from any condition such as PCOS that can make losing weight difficult?

Silvertap · 24/09/2017 07:26

Well done Rheasmummy.

Hi silly sausage and well done for coming back. You can do it - I lost 5 stone a few years ago. What are you eating?

Katenka · 24/09/2017 07:47

Sillysausage123 hi, i was 19 stone after giving birth. Its very difficult l. I have pcos so i keep my diet pretty low carb.

Can you post a typical days food? Like what you eat everyday. Do you move around much.

We are all here to help and support, if you need it. Well done on making changes Flowers

Sillysausage123 · 24/09/2017 08:04

Well I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 3 pounds so maybe my body takes time to adjust to healthy eating! I will get checked out by a dr though as I do have a few health issues.

I have started exercising 3/4 times a week and a typical day is like this
Muesli cereal
Tuna salad
Microwave low calorie meal under 400 calories
Either one or two snacks like a yoghurt or banana/grapes etc

Compared to what I ate before though and also starting exercise my body must be going into shock!

Katenka · 24/09/2017 08:11

How many calories is that?

It sounds extremely low for everyday.

martellandginger · 24/09/2017 09:04

Silly sausage, as everyone will say on here you need to weigh your food and count calories. At your weight I would try 1400 a day to start with and keep that for as long as possible. If your not losing up the exercise levels.

IMO any combo of food is fine just be strict on the calories and portion sizes. your diet in your last post seemed fine but I would ditch the muesli and have an egg on toast, or a less sugar cereal like shredded wheat. I find egg on toast means can go til lunch without snack.

Sillysausage123 · 24/09/2017 10:33

I'm not sure on the calories I have a day as I have no scales to weigh food so that's next on my list to get some scales.
I will give the egg on toast a try to make me feel a bit fuller to lunchtime
Thank you everyone for the support, after a wobble last night I'm back on track with a positive mind!

Movablefeast · 24/09/2017 15:47

Sillysausage My Fitness Pal is free on line and is basically a food and exercise diary with lots of community support in the forums if you want it. Tracking everything you eat is the most proven way that people keep on a weight loss lifestyle change long term. On MFP you can enter all your measurements and also keep track of those so the scale may be steady but your body composition is changing (a pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat).

I also second the advice to ditch sugary morning breakfasts for protein and fruit. If you are craving carbs go for porridge/oatmeal with small amount of honey and lots of berries. Try a medium steak with onions and broccoli for lunch or dinner, salmon with asparagus, veggie soups. Keep track of everything on MFP and you will discover where the hidden calories are in what you are eating.

Try to cut out milk and fruit juice (of course soda) and stick to water. Lots of water, stay hydrated.

We are all here for you and would love to continue to support you Flowers

Katenka · 24/09/2017 15:53

Are you weighing food, sausage?

Its not the same for everybody, but i struggle to lose weight if i undereat everyday.

I'll be honest, some days i do undereat. But not for any other reason that i am busy or I am just not hungry. But if i do it consistantly weightloss slows.

Start using myfitness pal and get scales. Then you will know if you are over or under eating.

Movablefeast · 24/09/2017 16:09

I find 3 meals with 2 snacks a day (especially around the 3pm lull when cravings strike) help keep me on track. It's important to eat foods that will make you feel full and not hungry.

slumdog · 24/09/2017 16:47

Hey guys would love to join! I have put on 1.5 stone in the last 18 months. I am now 10.9 at 5'6" feel horrid. Used to be a size 10 and none of my clothes fit. Now a snug 12. Saw a photo of myself today shocked me into action. I know I can find that discipline I used to have somewhere. I drink wine most nights and feel this could be my downfall. I am going to use MFP as have had good results from this in the past. I remain hopeful. One pound lost each week will take me in the right direction. I love the idea of us motivating each other with meal ideas etc.
