Tomorrow I quit sugar

OuchBollocks · 06/08/2017 17:29

I am OuchBollocks and I am a sugar addict. Not for me one square a day or a frozen curly wurly to take the edge off, no. I have it, I eat it, I want it more.

Last year I quit sugar for New Year, and stayed off minus one or two teeny slips until I got pregnant with DS, then being off alcohol and caffeine combined with the summer heat made the lure of a cold Fanta too hard to resist. Then I broke my leg and was bed bound and in pain and people brought chocolate to the hospital, and the meals all came with dessert, and then I had DS and more chocolate, then Easter and more chocolate, and although I've managed to drop a dress size so far with the 5:2 diet I need to jack in the white stuff. I am going to Ibiza in September '18 and I want to feel confident.

God help me,it's going to be hard. The rules are:
No sweet drinks, including artificial sweeteners
No chocolate, sweets, icecream, cake, sorbets, pastries, jam, marmalade etc etc
No crisps
Read labels of sauces carefully to check sugar levels.

I will update this thread for my own personal records. I am going to kiss sugar goodbye with the slice of cheesecake that is waiting for me after dinner. Goodbye sugar, it's been fun :(

Ouch bollocks well done for confessing!

I was tempted by the boursin today. Mm.

OuchBollocks · 21/08/2017 14:22

Boursin isn't sugary is it?

OP posts:
Cantseethewoods · 21/08/2017 14:44

Boursin is fine I think. It's just cream cheese.

GoingRogue · 21/08/2017 15:05

Do you think that was an auto-correct error for bourbon?! (Biscuit).

Breakthrough. My friend came for lunch and brought a bottle of Sicilian lemonade. I said I'd have a drop to be polite...but I had a sip and it set my teeth on edge! So had one more sip, then tipped my glass down the drain when cleaning up ! If I'm going to treat myself to a bit of sugar this week, it ain't gonna be on a soft drink on Monday lunchtime haha.

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 21/08/2017 15:57

No it's not sugar. Just interesting that I was tempted by savoury not sweet!

GoingRogue · 21/08/2017 18:52

I think my appetite is on the decrease (I've always had a massive appetite), and I have more energy? Food for the day:

B: Ready Brek and frozen berries. Tea.
S: Half an apple. Tea.
L: picnic/salad stuff. Small slice pizza. More tea.
S: banana
D: Wasn't very hungry, and had found an old Asda Slimzone cottage pie lurking at the back of the freezer so had that...but it was disgusting so only ate 1/3.
S: later I'll have some Greek yoghurt with nectarine (they're reallt ripe and the bit of ds2's I tried earlier was sooooo sweet!).

I've also had 1.5l water, so feeling good Smile Hope everyone else has had a good Monday.

OvercomeByGravity so sorry to hear you're poorly! Hope the medicinal prosecco does the trick Grin Ooh what puppy are you getting? Looks like you had a good day food wise again.

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 21/08/2017 21:14

Breakfast - weetabix
Lunch - cheese and ham roll. Yoghurt.
Dinner - butternut squash bacon and mushroom risotto.
Drinks 2 teas and water.

honeyroar · 21/08/2017 22:10

Evening all.

I've had another long day outdoors. Walking around for 5 hours (6.5 miles)

B - Out at 6.30am, the dogs took forever to go to the loo so I only had time for a banana for breakfast.

S - latte and flapjack on arrival.

L - falafel and spinach wrap. Apple. Handful of cashews.

S - latte.

D - 3 bean chilli and wild rice. Large spoonful of creme fraiche as I made it far too spicy!!

Oh yeah - and half my fingernails during GoT!!!

bibblebobblebubble · 21/08/2017 22:14

Stressful day today (reminds me of Airplane - looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sugar). Stuck home with ill child and have big childcare problems coming up.

Anyway.... managed to do the no cakes/biscuits/sweets/chocolate but binged out on carbs instead :/

B: muesli, yogurt, milk

Snacks and L: three bagels (see what I mean?)

S: coffee

D: weird mish-mash of slice of toast, a few baked beans, and some Bran Flakes and milk.

Well at least I stuck to what I said on the sugar front... back to work tomorrow which I think will be way easier than being at home.

Littlepig8834 · 21/08/2017 22:41

Today consisted of...

B: Alpro yoghurt and apricots
L: chicken and avocado sandwich, salt and vinegar crisps
D: beans on toast
S: cashews

So much sugar in beans, and I love baked beans so thinking about making my own. We make our own bread as DH is a bit of a bread snob, but it does taste better than shop bought so I'm not complaining and it has no sugar in it!

early30smum · 22/08/2017 00:06

Just came across this thread. Desperately need to deal with my weight after years of yo yoing. Definitely think I'm addicted to sugar. Weight watchers worked very well for me pre kids, and I kept the weight off, but I don't want to allow myself to use loads of points on rubbish... so after my holiday I'm planning to do ww online but out (or at least massively back on) sugar... hope you're al doing well- wish me luck!!

OuchBollocks · 22/08/2017 07:36

Interesting coincidence. Since cutting put sugar I have had the best, most noticeable improvements in my bad ankle since I started weight-bearing again at the end of March. It isn't painful! It hurt all the time until some point in the last fortnight.

Hello early30smum, good luck. I used to do ww and would use my points for wine and chocolate instead of nuts and avocado, not the healthiest of choices on my part.

Sorry you had such a bad day bibblebobblebubble. Hopefully today will be much better for you.

Nearly at two weeks for me, I am steadily loosing weight which is a bonus. The main aim for me is to shake off my addiction and stop craving sugar. I am going on holiday next week. Not sure if I will relax the rules a bit? I think I will see how it goes but will try not to seek out sugar ! I am learning a lot about nutrition and the importance of maintaining a balanced diet. I can understand why people say diets don't really work and that you have to change your attitude to food. If I went back to my sugary ways the weight would just pile back on. It has to be a long term commitment. Or sugar has to be a very occasional treat. I am kind of an all or nothing person so not sure if I can ever achieve that leval of control !

GoingRogue · 22/08/2017 16:33

Urgh. Just had a Tunnocks wafer and a fun size Bounty Sad

OuchBollocks · 22/08/2017 16:42

Why going rogue? Were they worth it?

OP posts:
GoingRogue · 22/08/2017 16:49

I'm shattered after a really bad nights sleep, and the kids are driving me mental. Fell asleep on the sofa for half an hour and woke up fancying some chocolate (it's one of my bad habits, always "needing" a quick sugar fix when waking from an afternoon nap).

Erm, they were delicious, yeah Blush Feel like a failure now though. Gonna struggle not to go "Fuck it" and raid the cupboards when the kids are in bed tonight...

GoingRogue · 22/08/2017 17:26

B: 2 x Weetabix and a banana. Tea.
S: An apple and 2 x teaspoons completely unnecessary peanut butter. Tea.
L: Cheese, tomatoes and crackers. Greek yoghurt and granola.
S: 2 x chocolate bars Angry more tea.
D: creamy chicken and mushrooms with rice and peas.

Writing it down helps. Today hasn't been a complete write-off, has it?

Back to work today.
Breakfast linzis granola with Greek yoghurt and raspberries I did add a small bit of honey but that made it too sweet.
Lunch pasta salad banana and yoghurt
Dinner gammon egg chips peas and beans Blush really healthy!

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 22/08/2017 20:45

The gammon was horrible though so I'm not full. Well done overcome. Rogue tomorrow is another day. I binge on chocolate too sometimes it's even chocolate that I don't like which is ridiculous.

I'm the same. If I get up from a nap I feel so groggy I immediately want to eat crap to bring myself round. If I just leave it half an hour I'm fine though.

I'm in such a filthy mood today. Typhoon all day, went to work anyway as otherwise we have to work from home which is basically impossible in a HK apartment with 2 kids. Work sucked. Major project is really behind. One of those days where every email is a shit-bomb.

Had curry buffet in the Marriott for lunch as that was all that was open (all shops & restaurants shut on typhoon days). It was delicious but not the healthiest. I did stick at one plate though and there was plenty of protein in there. Cracked at 4pm and had a 3 pack of those "Go Ahead" biscuits which are basically garibaldis in pretend healthy packaging Grin. Got home to DH telling me that all the boats at his boat club got smashed up on the sea wall so he's not happy either. Anyway, determined not to let it slide into wine and chocolate night. Salmon and courgetti for dinner and then I'll call my mum and auntie to tide me over till bedtime.

3 Good things to be happy about:

  • Kids go back to school tomorrow
  • Kids go back to school tomorrow
  • Kids go back to school tomorrow
honeyroar · 23/08/2017 13:40

Haha Cantseethewoods! I can see you dancing around from here! I'm off to Singapore on Friday, hope the weather is better there.

I've had a reasonable week, but my scales have shown a lb on this morning😟. I'm sure it's time of the month, but it's depressed me a bit!

Had a different day too. Took my mil with dementia to the dentist and for lunch and I couldn't get her out of the cafe! She forgot who I was and refused to leave with me!! So that was interesting.
