So over the last few months I have been messing around trying to lose weight and getting nowhere - I am actually heavier than ever. As some of you may have seen from another thread I thought that trying something different might help so I went to my first slimming world class yesterday - unfortunately I was not impressed and I don't think it's for me. So I am using a brand new month to motivate me and spending today planning are more positive May and my meals this week. Anyone else out there also struggling but feeling positive about the new month?

Ellie me too. I find MFP works best for me, though I do get a bit hungry!

Also off to bed now, too. Early swim before work. Then trying to resist Friday night wine!

Designerenvy · 04/05/2017 21:53

What's the MFP diet? Sorry, I've only ever done unislim ( it's Irish, along the lines of SW or WW)Ellie, I wonder if I cld stick to those calories , I've a big appetite Grin

369thegoosedrankwine · 04/05/2017 22:00

Day 4 was a struggle.Angry

I am doing mfp. Trying to stay under 1200. Feel as though I have been fighting hunger all day. Ironically it's the first day this week I haven't done any purposeful exercise.

Still made 11500 steps. Having a cup of tea then off to bed. Gym in the morning then train for 2 hours for work. Going to mini fast until lunchtime.

SharkSkinThing · 04/05/2017 22:03

Design it's My Fitness Pal. You can register for free and you log all of your food. You can work out how much weight you want to lose and at what rate (1 pound a week for example).

You can log your exercise too.

It feels a pain to start with but once you get going it's pretty cool. I find it helps me keep my portions down and it's family friendly.

I also have a, er, healthy appetite, so it can be a bit tough, but it works!

Designerenvy · 04/05/2017 22:18

Thanks shark. Never heard of that. Definitely going to look into , a different approach might just help and keep it interesting too.

Designerenvy · 04/05/2017 22:19

Well done 369, sounds like u did well today .

Ellieboolou27 · 04/05/2017 22:26

I've a huge appitite and can manage ok on 1300-1400 mainly 1500

Its basically a calories counting app, one of the best out there, with other diets it's about what to eat etc, my fitness pal is lead by you, you just learn to make better food choices once you realise how calorific some foods are. It can be a bit laborious logging everything but it works.

Went clothes shopping today and it was horrendous, it's made me even more determined to stick with this.

Night all

Designerenvy · 04/05/2017 22:29

Thanks Ellie. Yes, clothes shopping can be tough but can be so motivating ! I'm not buying any new clothes til I've lost at least half a stone .

Ellieboolou27 · 04/05/2017 22:32

design me too although I think I need a bigger dent in my weight loss for me to attempt it again any time soon m!

I'm definitely off to bed now as I've an urge to raid the kids sweetie jar Grin

Lubilu28 · 05/05/2017 07:46

Just weighed myself this morning and in down 2 1/4lbs!! A total of 8 1/4lbs in 2 weeks. Love the water weight loss in the first week haha 😂

I went clothes shopping too and was awful!! I'm gonna wait for another 4 weeks and try again gonna need some new short xxx

StarHeartDiamond · 05/05/2017 07:59

Woohoo lubi!! That's amazing, over half a stone in a fortnight!! Fantastic, keep it up!

I'm 4lbs off in total this morning Smile feeling happy that I'm getting a grip of myself again. I've got a couple of parties coming up in 2-3 weeks and want to wear something nice. Summer clothes are less forgiving than winter!

Designerenvy · 05/05/2017 08:03

Wow, well done lubi and star! What a great start for ye both. I'm nt due a weigh in til next wed, but ye're success stories will keep me motivated!

BeyondStrongAndStable · 05/05/2017 08:11

I'm doing the blood sugar diet - I'm on 800 cals a day, tonnes of water, lower carb. I'm also doing a meat-free-May, just for an extra kickstart. I track my calories on MFP, and my steps with my Fitbit. Once I've been dieting a week and I'm back in the swing, I'm gonna start doing Pilates again too.

Stayed the same today, told you it would slow down :)

MissingPanda · 05/05/2017 08:17

There must be something about clothes shopping. I went myself last week and that was what convinced me that I needed to lose some weight.

C25k wk1 d2 today and now I've said it I have to do it. Be back later.

StarHeartDiamond · 05/05/2017 08:24

Thanks design! Smile

Beyond, I'm sure you won't but don't be even a little bit disheartened by no loss today - so many times I have had no loss on the day but then two pounds off the next. It's just that on the day you don't lose, you can feel like the previous days dieting was in vain, and that's when I'm tempted to jack it in for the day, but if you hold on and keep doing the right things it'll show tomorrow or the day after often more than you thought! Smile

Designerenvy · 05/05/2017 09:14

Beyond, 800 caloriesShock, I'd pass out peacefully ! Good going you ! I found in the past that some weeks you don't notice the weight loss one week but you will the next. Keep going !
It's great to hear everyone's stories here.
Yes Panda, clothes shopping sucks at the moment !

Seav · 05/05/2017 09:20

Ah yes - clothes shopping UGH! Last time I felt joy in a changing room was about 15 years ago - dentist is much better.

Very pleased as I went out for a celebration meal last night and enjoyed myself without stuffing myself needlessly. I'm down 2.5 lbs from Monday this morning, so that was good to see too - even if it is a drop in the ocean!

I'm trying to build up some personal rules alongside WW - that I can follow 95% of the time for life. I don't think I have had a stretch of time (other than when I did something similar way back at the start of uni) where my weight has been steady - so that is some 25 years of yo yoing. I think that's enough of that now.

Main ones are:

  • Eat 4 x a day - breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper
  • If I feel the need to snack between meals (but try to avoid) - stick to vegetables, apples and berries.
Ellieboolou27 · 05/05/2017 09:29

seav yo yo lifer here too, u was thinking this morning about my approach to food, I'm a seriel snacker / sugar addict!
I'm also planning on 3 meals and at regular times, my snack will be once kids in bed, olives, popcorn that kind of thing.
I've got almost 20 years yo yo dieting and bad habits to break Smile

SharkSkinThing · 05/05/2017 09:34

Amazing lubi and star, great going, well done!

I want to eat my lunch now - but that's cos I swam this morning and forgot to pack my breakfast banana.

I feel your trauma at clothes shopping. I have got into the habit of buying clothes in the supermarket to then just try on at home. I least I am then spared the mirrors of shame.

On a good note I have had some really amazing good news that I can't share with work colleagues yet, so I may need to toast to it tonight. Weigh in in Tuesday, so might not be wise though!

Byond - I take my hat off to you. You must have the will power of a UN negotiator.

369thegoosedrankwine · 05/05/2017 09:53

Thanks design it was a struggle.

Yes to the clothes shopping. I will look like I have a new wardrobe if I can lose a stone as I haven't even worn some of my clothes.

The weekend are harder for me as I generally just feel more relaxed so don't eat consciously but I am not going to undo all my hard willpower this week....determined...

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 05/05/2017 09:57

Off out on a bike ride today!

Not been on a bike for over 30 years, so not sure how this will pan out, I'm a little bit nervous

OH bought us both bikes for easter presents!

SharkSkinThing · 05/05/2017 10:26

Padded pants, Mum, padded pants!

SharkSkinThing · 05/05/2017 10:27

369 - me too. Hand holding will be available!

BeyondStrongAndStable · 05/05/2017 10:31

Don't be too positive about my willpower - I'm only on my fifth day (I've done BSD before, but didn't cut alcohol and meat that time) Grin

Mum, good going you! Hope you enjoy it, it's a lovely day (here anyway) for a bike ride.

MissingPanda · 05/05/2017 10:47

Well done lubi and star

Beyond 800 calories! I'd never keep it up, you must have tremendous will power.

Completed c25k wk1 d2 and I actually enjoyed it. The weather here is great atm warm, sunny and blue skies so that helps. I've started c25k in the past but never got beyond wk2 before. My work rota goes Mon - Sun so I tend to run the rest of my life that way too. C25k encourages you to take a day off inbetween each run and I won't be able to run Sunday so I'm thinking of skipping wk1 d3 and going onto wk2 d1 on Monday so I can sync with work. I have done wk2 in the past so I know I can do it and if I can line it up with work I'm more likely to succeed.

Breakfast was weetabix this morning and a banana. This week I'm concentrating on no snacking except fruit because I need to increase my fruit intake. I don't want to follow a specific diet eg sw/ww. I would like to eventually get to a place where I'm eating mainly healthy food in the correct portion size with the occasional take-away/treat and doing regular exercise.
