So over the last few months I have been messing around trying to lose weight and getting nowhere - I am actually heavier than ever. As some of you may have seen from another thread I thought that trying something different might help so I went to my first slimming world class yesterday - unfortunately I was not impressed and I don't think it's for me. So I am using a brand new month to motivate me and spending today planning are more positive May and my meals this week. Anyone else out there also struggling but feeling positive about the new month?

I'm eating so much veg - I don't feel like it's only 800cal :)

Eg today I have had/am having:
Muesli with blueberries and full fat milk, lemon and ginger tea
Broccoli cheese (with cheese sauce and grated cheese)
Red lentil soup
Cashews and an apple

pinkieandperkie · 05/05/2017 11:44

I was really bad last night. I don't want to talk about it Smile

I've climbed back on the wagon today.

honeyroar · 05/05/2017 12:07

I couldn't do 800 calories for more than a week or so, I'd fall off the waggon, I've so much to lose I need something more sustainable (for me!). I haven't had any of the big losses that you get with stricter diets, but I'm still happily on it since mid January losing a steady average of 1lb a week and eating tons of food and barely any extra exercise. (Not knocking any of you that can do these diets - you've got to find what works for you long term if you've got a lot to lose, like I have!

BeyondStrongAndStable · 05/05/2017 12:29

I've lost a stone since my highest weight in October, still have about four to go, but December and January were complicated and then I didn't get properly back on track til now. I was reading research that people who gain after losing are no more likely to do it if it's a "crash" diet than by doing it slowly, so I'm giving that a go.
I have very all-or-nothing willpower too, so that's probably not helping when I do slower diets Grin

honeyroar · 05/05/2017 13:42

Yes I was a bit all or nothing with diets before. I seriously think I had a major sugar addiction, which fuelled that. I feel like I need something that I can pretty much do forever. I've yo-yo'd with diets for decades and it doesn't work for me. I felt like I needed to do something different this time.

Like I say, if it works for you and you can stick with it long term, good for you. 👍

StarHeartDiamond · 05/05/2017 15:06

Beyond- I agree, I am better when I start strong and maximise on the diet especially if the first couple of weeks/month. If my diet plan is too relaxed, the boundaries become blurred between diet and a slightly cheeky day and then it's easy to skip back into bad habits. Also I find the water weight loss at the start if the diet motivating as I adjust to new patterns of thinking. because diet/healthy eating starts in your head, re-thinking all your old habits. I will throw out any food that might derail my diet plans e.g. Left over cake as I know I won't resist it, so I chuck it in the bin. A great tip I got was to "ringfence" occasions of indulgent eating - don't let it drag through to the next day. Chuck out any excess or leftover food or drinks and start fresh the next day.

StarHeartDiamond · 05/05/2017 15:08

Well done pinkie for getting back on track. Forget yesterday, focus on today Smile

StarHeartDiamond · 05/05/2017 15:10

What's c25k panda? Sorry if I missed it!

SharkSkinThing · 05/05/2017 15:49

Love reading all the updates, so inspiring! I think just do what ever works! I am on track today so feeling positive heading into the weekend. Always dangerous!

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 05/05/2017 15:50

Can I join please. I'm an embarrassing 15.5 stone Shock. Need to get to around 9.5-10 to be healthy.

I would love to lose a few stone before my holiday in August, but my main motivation is that my one year old daughter doesn't EVER have to describe me as the fat mummy in the playground.

Been incredibly stressful few years which has included two MMC then a successful birth, getting married, an extension on the house, FiL passing away horribly last year then 3 months later MiL had a stroke (24 hour care needed which we help with as much as we can) and my grandmother passing last month. Hoping to turn the corner now and hope nothing else sabotages my efforts.

pinkieandperkie · 05/05/2017 16:16

Welcome Sew

Sounds like you have had a lot to deal with.

I've been trying hard since Monday to stop eating so much crap. I was so bad last night though and couldn't stop eating way too much chocolate, biscuits and crisps. I woke this morning feeling ashamed of myself but I am back on the wagon today.

WannabeHippyChick · 05/05/2017 16:25

Made flapjacks for kids... 'nuff said! Blush
And I was doing so well! Sad
Why do I do this? It's like I feel I don't deserve to succeed...

StarHeartDiamond · 05/05/2017 16:27

Hi Sew! That sounds tough. We are mostly in the early days of our personal weight goal journeys here. Will you be following a specific diet, or making your own plan? There's daily support and lots of ideas swapping here, feel free to jump in - I've picked up quite a bit from here this week!

StarHeartDiamond · 05/05/2017 16:32

Aw wannabe. Don't be despondent. You do deserve to succeed, don't let it ruin your motivation.

What would you do differently next time? (Obviously not eat the flapjacks Grin but I mean leading up to that). Do you do a lot of baking?

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 05/05/2017 16:39

Can you go for a walk/run to burn some flapjack calories?

I've just eaten some ritz salt and vinegar things.... 225 calories, so that's 20 mins on treadmill

Not the right way to view food but it's my get out option

WannabeHippyChick · 05/05/2017 16:45

Star I just don't seem to have a stop button! I'm a bit all or nothing with food, I think.
That's a good idea to think what to do differently next time - rather than just beat myself up. Thankyou. I said up thread somewhere that I was going to try the eating part of my mindfulness app, so I will try to do that tonight. Then I might just not hoover stuff up without really thinking about it!
I do bake/cook a lot for work & at home. I know we do generally eat healthily - I just eat too much!

WannabeHippyChick · 05/05/2017 16:54

I will at some point this weekend, MumIs.
I'm going to start c25k again, so that might just give me a good push. Plus there are 2 unwalked dogs looking at me with hope in their eyes!!!!
I just need to accept that I had a wobble & move on.
It's so nice to have some non-judgemental support, isn't it! x

StarHeartDiamond · 05/05/2017 17:26

Wanna - I remember a perfectly good diet ruined by a half term holiday where I thought I'd bake gingerbread with the dcs. I intended to eat none at all, then maybe one, then two... and so on! Then I felt the day was ruined so I'd start again the next day, but the next day there was another excuse so I deferred it to the day after and so on until I'd overeaten almost every day of the hols Shock

So now I just buy one gingerbread man each for the dcs from the shop Smile because the trouble with baking at home is that you make 12 of something, or a full tray etc - far more than you'd usually buy at the shops in one go.

Forget the flapjacks and keep going, you can do this! Flowers

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 05/05/2017 17:39

I don't have a plan to follow a diet as yet.

Wine and chocolate are my downfall. I weighed less after having a baby than before I was pregnant, and I think it was down to avoiding both for 9 months.

I want to go low carb, cut out the junk and generally just eat more veg and less booze.

Ellieboolou27 · 05/05/2017 18:39

Hi all and welcome sew I've put on 2st since having my second 20 months ago so know how you feel.

This thread is great for support and actually feel like this time I might actually be successful in losing!

I've done homemade fish and chips for dinner, trying not to snack once kids in bed as that's my danger time.

Mermaidinthesea123 · 05/05/2017 18:41

I'm so hungry on 600 calorie exante but I have lost 7 lbs this week :-)

StarHeartDiamond · 05/05/2017 19:34

Dh brought a takeaway in on the way back from work Sad I had a tiny bit but I was literally desperate to eat the lot and start again tomorrow but I am just not going to ruin my efforts so soon. I really really want it though.

It's still downstairs, I've come upstairs as I'm waiting for the temptation to pass.

Dh doesn't mind what i do dieting wise, but he can't understand why I don't just eat it and then do some exercise tomorrow. its that simple, right?!

Designerenvy · 05/05/2017 19:54

star step away from the take away ! That's a tough one but you can resist just think how proud you'll be of yourself tomorrow!
sew I've no real plan either. Trying 3 meals and 2 healthy snacks. Reduce carbs and bucket of water.
wannabe we've all done it. Put it behind you and move on.
I was fierce jittery on the way home from work, hunger was killing me. Having dinner now, so that should help !

SharkSkinThing · 05/05/2017 19:58

If it was that simple we'd all be slimmer (or happy with our weight), right? Hope you are staying strong, Star. My DS had a friend over after school and they had pizza. Had to fling the leftovers into the garden for the birds to stop me gnawing off the cheese!

Mermaid that's incredible!

And me too Ellie. My Friday tradition is wine and nuts. Tonight it's peppermint tea and...nothing.

Worried that watchng Masterchef may break me.

Designerenvy · 05/05/2017 20:11

Very true shark! It's the picking that kills me, the kids left overs, chocolate, crisps. I love all the bad foods and wine. Trying to avoid wine this weekend but craving it already Sad
