Small amount to lose but want support?

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Morning all, so happy to see scales down at 9st 8.5 this morning. A 1.5lb loss from last weekend. I can really see the loss now and part from skipping breakfast every day for a week, I have eaten really tasty food and not been hungry. Have a good weekend all.

theredjellybean · 03/06/2017 09:29

hello everyone...i am back from lovely 5 day break with my dds ...lots of ( umm..too much ) wine/champers/crisps/fish and chips etc etc...but surfed and ran everyday and played tennis twice.
Just dared / braved scales and showing 72.6 ..hurrah ...so total loss now is 2 kgs or 4.4 lbs in 4 weeks .
I am quite pleased ( very pleased ) and decided i have 7 weeks until big holiday and i am going to stop drinking alcohol for the next 7 weeks.
It is my big calorie adder..
well done everyone else...:)

theredjellybean · 03/06/2017 09:33

Herbie...i have no idea about the ravenous appetite thing when you have AF or PMT..but i am menopausal and still get it . for about 3 days could litterally eat anything that isnt nailed down ...cannot sate it at all. then it disappears. Its a bugger !

Orangecake123 · 03/06/2017 19:33

Well done everyone!

We did 5k altogether and it was tough as there were hills. I definitely felt it in my upper thighs which hasn't happened before. Today was just a very long walk.More than 2 hours altogether. I have signed up for a real 5k on the 10th which does seem daunting, though I know I can cover the distance. I think I'm going to skip gym and just let myself recover might but I might just decide in the morning. I would really like to know my real weight though but I know there's no point in measuring it just now!

theredjellybean · 04/06/2017 08:27

orange..do not be duanted by 'real' 5 km....you have run that distance, so you know you can do it, and i found when is first started running that my first 'real' event was so much easier than i imagined..i loved running in a crowd of people and the adrenaline really did kick in and get me round. Ok i make it sound like i ran the london marathonWink but any distance that you achieve as part of an organised event is worthy of praise.
if it helps my first real event was a 10 k and before the day i had only ever manged to run 7 km at home..the 10 km breezed by and i was delighted by my abilities ...
i know you will feel a bit nervous but once you start running on the day you will love it .

I am 53 and suffering menopausal fatigue so find it really hard to lose weight. I only need to lose six more pounds but it is such a struggle. Reading this thread with interest. Am planning to see a homoeopath about my fatigue soon which may help matters along somewhat.

PollyPelargonium52 · 04/06/2017 08:48

I went away a few days last week and came back two pounds heavier so effectively need to lose eight pounds now hurrumph. It is impossible to diet when away!

theredjellybean · 04/06/2017 08:53

polly..welcome and my sympathy over the menopausal fatigue..i could start a whole new thread about the bloody menopause !! but i wont because i am at work and will be all day listing my menopause related woes...

could you start exercising ? do you already ? i know it is so hard when you feel so tired but a little bit regularly does actually increase energy not deplete it .

FitbitAddict · 04/06/2017 15:29

Hello all, I'm back from hols 3lbs heavier. Could be worse, I've had so much garlic bread with cheese this week and as a vegetarian cheese featured heavily in most evening meals - spinach and ricotta cannelloni, halloumi fingers, spinach and goats cheese tart, pizza... I did manage to have a cheese-free veggie curry one night though. I went for a run on the first day and after that did loads of walking every day. Now it's 8 weeks until the next holiday so I still have at least 10lbs to lose.

orange you'll be fine. I remember my first 5k run and it felt like a marathon.

PollyPelargonium52 · 04/06/2017 15:53

Thanks redjellybean I will have a good moan to the homoeopath soon and then intend to do some Callanetics I didn't know you could still purchase them on the DVD! It is arriving next week.

Other than that I have had high hopes all year of going to a weekly aqua aerobics class only to have them repeatedly dashed through one symptom or another blighting me! I feel so inadequate when childhood friends (my school year and age) tell me they are doing classes 4 times a week or jogging most days!! Help lol.

Orangecake123 · 04/06/2017 15:53

@theredjellybean- thank you for your words, they really did help! I am feeling more positive. Trying to just keep going with the flow. I felt really low today- but headed to the gym anyway, so i'm proud of that small victory. Just dealing with period discomfort. I watched the movie wonder woman and felt motivated watching all those strong women!

@polly- welcome to the thread!

Herbie58 · 04/06/2017 16:51

Well done @Orangecake123 that's an impressive effort!

@PaintingOwls - I weighed myself this morning as AF arrived yesterday and two pounds off! 😆. 9st 4. Would really love to do the other 4 this week - desperate to see an 8 on the scales again!

@theredjellybean - I managed to hold it together for the entire 3-4 day run up, then caved into a big bag of buttons on the sofa watching a film with my wee man 🙈. I can cope with one fail in a loooooong week of hormones!

NewYearNewNickname · 05/06/2017 07:47

Hi all, got home yesterday after 9 nights away. Was slightly dubious about getting on the scales as I have eaten pastries, lots of cheese, alcohol etc everyday but it wasn't too bad, 10st 1.6lbs.

Back on it today, will weigh in again on Friday and will catch up with the thread later today

Hi all, I have almost got there with my weight loss- have been trying hard for a year or so since my youngest baby was 6 months. Have gradually gone from about 11 stone just after having the baby to 9st 5. Have about 2lb more to lose to be pre baby weight.
Have been doing a combination of eating healthily (lots of fruit, Greek yoghurt, eggs, salad, nuts, seeds hummus, salmon) and keeping calories below 1,600 a day and exercise- running or HIIT 5x a week and lots of walking as well. Feel good and healthy just want to shift the final tiny bit now.
My tummy is a mess and has a fair bit of loose skin but I guess that's something I have to accept (4 pregnancies).

theredjellybean · 05/06/2017 10:06

well done Herbie, just one bag of buttons is not a failure...it is an accepting that sometimes the forces of nature ( ie our hormones) are beyond our control....:)

Orangecake...thank you too, nice i helped someone, i am feeling a bit bleugh today..life generally and the fact my weight is just not moving..but today is first day of no alcohol for 7 weeks, so going to see if that makes a difference ...bloomin hope so, it should, cus the wine leads to crisps and little nibbles of things from fridge etc etc....
When are you doing your 5k run ? we will cheer you on from here.

Orangecake123 · 05/06/2017 12:42

@theredjellybean- Thank you ^^. It's on Saturday, the 10th- it's just odd thinking it's only 5 days away from "it's 2 months away". Running and going to the gym and trying to be fit really just gave me mental clarity. I feel like I have a lot more confidence than I did before.

I went gym today and bit the bullet and asked one of the personal trainers if he could work with me. At the moment I only want to commit to one session a week as I have exams looming.I hope that will be enough to make a difference, but I will carry on working by myself too.

Cutting back on the drinking will help as you will save a lot of calories. It;s good you can see patterns in your behavior and where you can help yourself. You will get there girl!

@NewYear-It sounds like a fab holiday! What's your goal weight?

@Notanightbird- Your body won;t be the same but you made and carried four beautiful babies! How old is your youngest now?

@Herbie58- Thank you? How have you been?

@Polly- Oooo I googled callanetics as I wasn't sure what it was. It really does seem interesting. Be gentle with yourself. Your friends may be doing 4/5 classes but what really matters is what works for you.Even if that sounds simplistic, but I think it's better to go to one class or two and find something you can stick with long term rather than trying too much and giving up altogether because the pace was too unsustainable.

@fitbit- reading your post makes me hungry lol. It's definitely possible to lose the last 10 pounds before your holiday!

Bumblebzz · 05/06/2017 22:16

I'm back from hols and motivated!
I tried skipping breakfast today (@Giddy) and I was surprised how well it went. Despite making breakfast for the children which I thought would be a killer (I'm usually gone to work but I have a couple of weeks off). I went and did a dynamic yoga class and felt really good - and really enjoyed lunch when I finally sat down to eat. So I might try this for a while to see if it can kickstart some weight loss because before my holidays I was totally plateauing despite keeping my calories under control. I like the intermittent fast idea, it feels like it gives my system a chance to do some internal house keeping. It's early days but so far so good. And I'm a breakfast lover normally!!

PollyPelargonium52 · 06/06/2017 06:50

Am hoping to try out the clean eating diet. First I need to buy a book then study the foods etc so may not start it for a couple of weeks. A friend has lost a stone and a half on it. To be honest one main reason I wish to do the diet is to improve energy.

Bumblebzz · 06/06/2017 12:52

Another no breakfast day, didn't faint or anything and ran my fastest 4km yet (which was still slow by proper runners' standards but good for me).

Giddyaunt18 · 06/06/2017 13:10

Yes bumble totally agree, it's a revelation to us breakfast lovers isn't it? I had breakfast yesterday because I woke at 5 am for some reason but today I did it and I'm at work. Tummy didn't rumble any more than it normally does at 10 even after breakfast. The hunger doesn't increase, it comes and goes and it's nothing a hot drink can't quieten. Hope it kicks start more loss for you bumble

PollyPelargonium52 · 06/06/2017 14:19

I really don't see the value of skipping the most important meal of the day?

I would have a humungous blood sugar dip if I did that my hormones are haywire in the mornings as they are.

Even the clean eating diet is somewhat fanatical I will just do it to lose half a stone and adopt some healthy vegan aspects to my eating habits then reincorporate what I normally eat perhaps 70 %/30% ratio.

theredjellybean · 06/06/2017 14:59

polly...why is breakfast the most important meal of the day ?
I never eat it. I am never hungry until lunchtime , sometimes later than that.
If i ate breakfast ' because you should' then i would be eating calories that my body clearly was not needing..and would turn into fat

Herbie58 · 06/06/2017 15:10

@PollyPelargonium52 - we've been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for so many years that we blithely accept it as being scientifically true.

Yet - we are all different biologically, react differently to foods, and respond to different routines with variation.

Take me. I have Coeliac Disease, I spent years forcing breakfast down - and dealing with the inevitable pains and health issues it caused because I believed breakfast was the most important meal.

Since quitting breakfast or rather waiting until 10am (I'm up at 5:45am) to have a water based protein shake it's been a revelation for me. My body feels awake and ready to deal with proper food by lunchtime - but not before.

There are lots of research and studies now into showing the benefits of fasting for a full 12-16 hours, so for many means not eating breakfast.

Giddyaunt18 · 06/06/2017 15:15

Many people only eat once a day. Not done Cliff Richard any harm Wink

Giddyaunt18 · 06/06/2017 15:22

I would have a humungous blood sugar dip if I did that

Your blood sugar has already fallen overnight, missing breakfast just extends the bodies normal overnight fast. I never feel dizzy, lightheaded etc. If anything I feel lighter and better in the mornings.Just be sure to keep hydrated.
