Small amount to lose but want support?

NewYearNewNickname · 18/04/2017 08:04

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Well done fitbit 5:2 got me down to 9st 2 a few years back. It was great while I was in the zone. I found it hard to do around my family though especially my daughters who want to know why mummy isn't eating AGAIN! If I didn't have family at home I would give it a go again.

clumsyduck · 10/05/2017 21:41
Smile Well no loss to post as I'm one day in Grin but have stuck to plan all day and haven't caved when offered chocolate at work . Will keep at it tommrow . Once I'm in the zone so to speak I find it much easier to stick to things so fingers crossed for a pound or so off next week maybe
Orangecake123 · 11/05/2017 05:42

Well done fitbit!

Today is a rest day.

Giddyaunt18 · 12/05/2017 07:13

Weigh day. No losses to report this week.

Start weight: 10st 2lb
Week 1: 9st 13lb
Week 2 : 9st 12lb
Week 3: 9st 12b Sad

I am not deterred. Onwards people! Good luck other Friday weighers!

butlerchauffer · 12/05/2017 07:54

Same situation here Giddy, no loss this week.

Starting: 10 4.4
Week 1 10 1.4
Week 2 10 1
Week 3 10 1

I ate very little yesterday in a vain attempt to get the stubborn scales shift. I've done 4 classes this week and been generally v good (except for the crackling fest and hallumi burger earlier in the week!)
Disappointing however I have noticed a change in shape which is keeping me motivated.

It is hard at family meal time, my husband's sister had anorexia as a teenager and we have a 12 yo daughter and we've always tried to eat healthy but normal and together in recent years.

I'm fine at work just rubbish at home! I opted out of risotto last night and had skinny soup with broccolli for all the good it did.

My tip this week is frozen stir fry veg which I had for lunch when I was starving yesterday after yoga. I added an egg and it was delish!

Onwards indeed! Hope there's some success stories coming today :-)

butlerchauffer · 12/05/2017 08:00

Fitbit & other 5:2 ers

What would you eat on a fast day? Think I could handle 2 scarce and 4 careful and 1 treat day plan. I gave up on MFP after 1 day, I'm too lazy to log! I reckon I'm doing 5 careful and 2 treat so probably need to ramp it up!

PaintingOwls · 12/05/2017 09:01

Butler I'm not on the 5:2 now, but when I was I just had my regular dinner which was about 500 calories. I didn't find the need to have special or different food.

Giddyaunt18 · 12/05/2017 12:44

When I did 5:2 I would skip breakfast , eat a 200 cal lunch(salad with tuna, no dressing) and a 250 cal eve meal( lean chicken or fish with veg or those Konjac noodles) I could never manage all day without food painting, that's hardcore!
I was quite intersted in the new Rosemary Conley diet: 321. I think it's 3 days of 800 cals in the first week, 2 in the second then 1 day per week to maintain. After 500 on 5:2 , 800 sounds like a feast!

Bumblebzz · 12/05/2017 13:08

I know there's a separate thread dedicated to this, but yesterday I read about the No S diet and it sounds eminently sensible and maintainable for life. After reading it I realised all the "naturally slim" people I know actually eat like this:

nosdiet.com

I think I am going to try this (I kind of am now anyway because cutting down calories natural targets sweet stuff and overused portions and snacks) - but in conjunction with MFP.

Giddyaunt18 · 12/05/2017 14:07

I agree with the S diet totally and it's what I have been doing without calling it that. I really do believe that snacking is the biggest downfall and we have been lead to believe that we need to snack, by the manufacturers. Unless you are diabetic and need to monitor your blood sugar there is no reason to snack.

Bumblebzz · 12/05/2017 14:13

Could not agree more Giddy!

And sorry about all the typos above, I meant oversized portions :0

When I was a kid it was strictly no snacks between meals (to be honest the concept didn't even really exist, did I mention I am 45...) which was also better for everyone's teeth.

AlwaysHungryAlwaysTired · 12/05/2017 14:30

Friday weigh in... 10 st 1 lb.

Same as last Friday.

But I've had a good, healthy week and I'm premenstrual with very sore boobs, so if you could all send me supportive sisterhood messages about how I'm bound to lose a pound or two when my period arrives tomorrow I'd really appreciate it. Wink

Good luck to other Friday weighers for losses!

Giddyaunt18 · 12/05/2017 14:31

Snap Bumble , I am 46. Grin just been reading the info on your link and I really like the simplicity of the S diet and the no excuses remarks. It's so true. I like this one in particular:

What if I am an idiot and insist on following the letter of the law but breaking it in spirit by (say) eating a gallon of ice cream every S-day and counting my second cousin's hamster's birthday as an S-day?

Then I can't help you. You will be fat and die young.

Seriously, this is less of an issue than you think. I haven't heard of anyone messing this diet up because they followed the rules during the week and overbinged on the weekends. But I have heard from plenty of people who anticipate this being a problem, burden themselves with weekend restrictions to prevent it, and then crack during the week because it's too much. S-days are a necessary reward and safety valveGrin

OwlBeBack · 12/05/2017 15:54

No loss for me either and I'm covered in bruises from hula hooping. Not giving up though. Hoping to see something shift next week - inches or pounds. Anything would be good.

theredjellybean · 12/05/2017 17:20

i have lost .5 kg...
started a week ago at 74.7 and was 74.2 today

I was doing very well until wednesday and then went a children's party ( with wine for adults ) and then out for boozy dinner, and then had munchies yesterday and had kfc ..oops.
But today been for 10 km run and made myself pick up pace a bit.
Half a kilo is 1.1 lbs so am pleased as long as it continues on downward trajectory...that is ok by me.

theredjellybean · 12/05/2017 17:22

always....i used to gain upwards of 4-5 lbs before period...bloated horrid stomach and huge boobs...ugh...the menopause has its benefits
hang in there, you will feel so much better after period and weight will drop like a feather form your svelte and lovely frame

Joinourclub · 12/05/2017 18:55

I've been doing the 's'diet without even realising! Cutting out snack sweets and second helpings just seemed the easiest way to diet. Im also cutting out mid week booze.

eltsihT · 12/05/2017 23:28

I lost over a stone on the no s diet, I stopped following it formally last summer and have gone up and down a bit. I found it very straight forward. It's what I am trying to do now to get back to my target

eltsihT · 12/05/2017 23:30

Here is my weight graph so you can see how successful it was/is

Small amount to lose but want support?
Giddyaunt18 · 13/05/2017 09:58

Morning all! Had to come back on with a big Grin because after yesterdays disappointment of no loss, this morning I felt my stomach was flatter so hopped on the scales of doom.....9st 11lb yesss!

I usually drink on Fri, Sat and Sun but didn't last night as was DD's taxi. think I will adopt this as a new rule as per S diet so only alcohol on sat and Sun and special days.

Orangecake123 · 13/05/2017 10:44

Congrats Giddyaunt fab news!

FitbitAddict · 13/05/2017 10:45

That's great giddy

butler I try to avoid food until dinner, which means no one with any sense comes between me and my dinner when I get home. Sometimes a 40 cal instant hot choc at lunchtime helps. In the evening I eat tons of veg with whatever I'm having.

Giddyaunt18 · 13/05/2017 11:08

Funny how there was no change all week then a pound off overnight it seems. I know we can hold onto water during digestion depending on what we've eaten. I feel so buoyed up by this extra pound going into the weekend because I really don't feel like I am dieting.

Starting weight: 10st 2
End of week 1 : 9st 13lb
End of week 2 : 9st 12b
End of week 3 : 9st 11b

5lb loss in 3 weeks is quite a lot when all I am doing is basically the S diet (no sweet stuff, no snacks, no seconds unless an S in the day) plus i have been keeping my carb portions to a fist size. Still doing my usual daily brisk dog walk(120 steps per min) of 45 mins plus longer at weekends but no other exercise.

I am a bit giddy I know, just feeling really good. Smile

Impressive graph eltisht !

CeCeBloomer · 13/05/2017 11:46

Hi, I need to join this thread as motivation is diminishing.
5ft 6 10st 10 and want to be 9st 12. I gave birth end of November and was 14 stone day I gave birth so doing well but struggling now to keep going!!

theredjellybean · 13/05/2017 12:45

ooh giddy ...how fabulous and you should feel giddy...5lbs in 3 weeks is perfect..enough to keep moitvated and see a difference but also no so fast it will be unsustainable.

I am also feeling very positive and motivated, didnt drink last night...as frankly did not want to come to work with hangover ( never stopped me before) and didnt want to consume 1000 odd calories for nothing really except it was friday night.

might have to have some tonight though..its eurovision !
