Shiny new thread!SmileSmileSmile
Support, advice and general chat for those who are following the NoS diet. We're all about good habits and moderation in our eating!

Posie that's pretty much how I'm feeling.
I was brought up to eat three meals a day and nothing in between (God help me if I asked) and I honestly think that and the strict "no sugar" upbringing massively contributed to my binge eating and constant diets.
So I guess it's no surprise I'm still a bit afraid of not being able to make it to the next meal. I always eat to stuffed. I know that's not good but like I said I'm just not ready to tackle that. Not yet anyway Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 26/06/2017 06:32

Two I think its good to remind ourselves of how much progress we've made, especially with our attitude to food. My upbringing was different to yours, my mother God bless her shows her love through providing food and always worries that there won't be enough, there's always a huge amount of food available. So I have had to learn what normal portions and eating habits are like! I take heart from posters on the NoS forum, some of them describe how it has taken a process over several months and years to get to where they want to be. We all have our demons to fight I guess.
On with Monday, have a good week everyone. (Pathetically I am aching from my gentle exercise videoBlush)

Good morning. Day 1 for me today. I'm going to try no snacks at all and do this properly, but if I'm really, really finding it difficult I'll have fruit. I figure fruit is better than finding it too difficult and giving in!!

beela · 26/06/2017 07:13

posie it's not pathetic, your body just isn't used to it! If you keep doing it a few times a week you'll get over that bit in no time. Like two, I am in the habit of exercising now and I miss it if I don't do it. I bought some heavier hand weights yesterday and was really excited to get up at 6am to try them out?! I suspect my arms will ache tomorrow if not before.

I'm ready to tackle this week now, after a slightly chocolatey weekend. Have a good one, everyone.

beela · 26/06/2017 07:14

Good luck pawpatrol, let us know how you get on!

twofloorsup · 26/06/2017 08:25

You're right Posie I am so different around food I don't recognise myself Smile
It's nice to enjoy it isn't it Beela !
Good luck Pawpatrol you can do it Smile

pawpatrol123 · 26/06/2017 09:02

Thank you both. Just as an added challenge I've got my eldest home from school with a bad stomach Confused This could actually help and put me off my food Wink He's fine in himself so happily running around!

Venella · 26/06/2017 09:39

Happy new week everyone!

Well done Posie.
pawpatrol good luck

I'm going on holiday next week (where the ice cream is good but I'll also be enjoying a lot of walking) and wondered if you have any tips or simply share your experiences, good or bad?
What is the 'official' stance on holidays? Keep calm and No-S on?

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 26/06/2017 10:02

Hello all. The 'official' stance on holidays is that because in America they only get two weeks a year you can just count them as nws days. As we get more than that we should be more thoughtful about it.

I think if you make a plan and stick to it then it is better than just throwing caution to the wind. Plan you ice cream and enjoy it once in the holiday for example.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 26/06/2017 10:58

Holidays are tricky! I fell off the wagon last December by eating 2 mince pies every day in Dec with double cream. Note to self: the Christmas period does not start on Dec 1st! Do you all manage to remain strong over proper holidays? I find it's the casual drinking that does me in - carafe of wine with lunch, drinks getting ready, more drink with dinner...I seem to recall that the official No S rules are for only 2 drinks a day, any day, because more than that = binge drinking. Bless their little American Puritanical hearts. Prevailing U.K. culture is somewhat different!

pawpatrol123 · 26/06/2017 11:40

It's nearly lunchtime on day 1, and I haven't had a morning snack! Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 26/06/2017 12:15

Hurray, pawpatrol!

twofloorsup · 26/06/2017 16:09

I only started on New Year's Day so not sure about holidays yet.
I personally will probably just stick to No S as I don't eat the things I would have previously binged on anymore so no need to make allowances I guess. I don't drink so that's not an issue for me. I think the time it would worry me was if I was at the mercy of someone else catering for me.

pawpatrol123 · 26/06/2017 16:44

Stomach started rumbling around 3, but I've thrown myself into studying and looking after ds1 and I've got through most of the afternoon. Oven will be going on in 15 mins ready to make dinner Grin

twofloorsup · 26/06/2017 17:11

Keeping busy is a good tactic Pawpatrol. My flat has never been so clean Smile

beela · 26/06/2017 17:11

Yay well done pawpatrol. Sounds like day 1 is going well.

When we went on holiday at Easter I did a relaxed version of no s. I still tried to mainly stick to it but sometimes had some tastes of dh's dessert for example.

I find school holidays tricky as we are out of routine. I need to make a strategy for the summer hols. 6 weeks is too long to just let it slide!

OSETmum · 26/06/2017 18:07

Hi everyone, does anyone find that, since doing the no S diet, they no longer like the taste of sugary, fatty foods? NoS works really well for me as we have a pretty full on family hobby (trials motorbike riding) and find ourselves spending most weekends in a field/ woods so it's often necessary to grab convenience food. Plus we have to get up really early to travel to events so there isn't time to prep food.

On Saturday, I had some crisps which tasted DISGUSTING and a bit of a wispa which tastes very meh.

Then yesterday we grabbed a McDonald's breakfast ( I had 2 hah browns as I don't like the sausage) then ended up eating TWO wispas as we were stuck for ages waiting at an event and I was staaaaarving. But I no longer enjoyed any of this stuff so can anyone recommend easy, convienient, transportable food ideas that taste yummy and don't make you feel guilty?

Thanks 🙂

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 26/06/2017 20:59

Hello everyone. I'm feeling a bit ill today, but on the plus side I hardly have an appetite! I have only had my 3 meals today, so I'm happy with that.

OSETmum, you could do a cous cous salad with mediterranean veg/chicken and salad wraps/ soup and crusty bread, if you have a food flask.

pawpatrol123 · 26/06/2017 22:12

Curvy sorry you're not feeling well. Hope you'll be feeling better soon.

Well I've finished day 1. I'm in bed having eaten 3 meals and no snacks at all today Grin I will admit I'm starting to feel hungry now. We eat quite early (5:45) so that we can eat as a family - the boys are in bed by 7 so that's not going to help.

One thing I've noticed is that I should up the fruit/veg in my meals. Today hasn't been the best example as I've been finishing off food in the fridge as my meals!! I did make a salad to go with my lunch though. I do need to think more about what I'm eating.

PosiePootlePerkins · 26/06/2017 22:15

Get well soon CurvyFlowers
Regarding holidays, I completely blew it over half term when we went camping, my head went into 'holiday = food' mode. I also need a plan for the 6 weeks of summer holidays, I am going to try and stick to NoS as much as possible in the week, not sure how easy it will be.
Osetmum the trouble with ready made food is it is never going to be all that nutritious. If you were able to make something in advance in batches, and freeze, then defrost when you need it, could that work for you? Pasta salad with bits that would freeze eg sweetcorn, peppers, ham? I'm sure there are other things that would work, maybe have a google.

Just had a quick search and came up with this
livesimply.me/2014/09/24/lunches-you-can-make-and-freeze/
I'm sure there are other ideas out there.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 26/06/2017 22:28

OSET, sandwiches? Bought or home made - yum! One of my favourite things about this diet is being able to eat sandwiches guilt-free.

Curvy, hope you feel better tomorrow!

Posie, yy to needing a summer holiday plan!

Stuck to my two meals today but DH had served my dinner as I parked the car and it was the most enormous plate! Need to gently educate him about portion sizes, at least as far as I'm concerned! I ate the lot (chicken curry, mmm), oops.

Exercise: walking from car park to work and back - 20 mins each way. Not particularly strenuous exercise but better than nothing! Knee still stiff, but much better than it was.

Venella · 26/06/2017 23:44

Thank you all for the input re holidays.
I don't want to blow it but perhaps a 'relaxed' version might work and prevent just that.
Today went well except that my dinner was a bit close to bed time. Room for improvement. Tomorrow's challenge will be in the evening after work, but I'm up to this challenge!

PosiePootlePerkins · 27/06/2017 06:30

Have just read a thread on the NoS forum about holidays, might be worth a look. Venella good luck this evening, you can do it! Cheddar glad your knee is on the mend. Have a good day everyone.

Thank you Posie !
Would you be able to post a link or perhaps a specific search term so I can find it please? I tried looking on there before but no luck.

Have a good day everyone!
