On the way to losing a stone with Codswallop: progress to date

Here's anew thread for Coddy's recruits.

The old thread is here

For the record, I started out (May 19) at 11 stone 2 and am now 10 and a half stone A total loss of 9 pounds

Coddy's potential wrath has been inspirational! Plus of course the support of the rest of you (although the thread does go quiet at times).

That's defeating the point Sonnet. Repeat after me: I WILL only eat one sqaure of chocolate, enjoy it and savour it, and I will NOT have another piece becasue ONE was enough.

Now write that down one hundred times!

I suppose the saving grace is that one bar over two days is still a damn site better than a Mars Bar a day.

Trust me - I am real chocoholic. I think nothing about having a Mars Bar followed by a Cadbury's Caramel bar followed by a Creme egg (could eat three creme eggs in a row easily!). I could finish a box of After Eights on my own!

janZ - you sound just like me - a pure chocoholic!!! The only things thats worked for me is giving it up by going completely cold turkey. Occasionally I pick a day when the cravings are strongest and give in but the rest of the time I don't touch choc, and that helps.

Sonnet · 27/07/2004 14:05

i'm busy writing......

wobblyknicks · 27/07/2004 14:06

PMSL Sonnet!!!

JanZ · 27/07/2004 14:24

Sonnet!

(..took me a minute and then PMSL!)

Wobblyknicks - I too have to go cold turkey - but I also have to tell myself if I REALLY want one, then I'm allowed it. If I forbid it, I just crave it.

I DO enjoy my one square a night (I have to admit that it is OCCASIONALLY two squares, but I blame my lapse at the weekend on pre-menstrual cravings).

DH loves Maltesers (but they have to be in a box), so we share a box on a Friday night. I try and make sure that he eats the lion's share - and we are also now leaving some to give to ds (nothing like the bribe of "one of daddy's special sweets" to get him to try some lamb or whatever he's not keen on eating). I also remind myself of the ad from years ago... "Chocolate?... No, Maltesers!" and try to convince myself that they are mostly air bubbles!

OP posts:
wobblyknicks · 27/07/2004 14:27

I still crave it but manage to get away without any in between the times when the cravings are bad and I give in!!!

LOVE Malteasers....drool!!!!

Sonnet · 28/07/2004 09:47

the two of you have such strong willpower compared to me.....
I've lost half a pound this morning!! - it was either not having the chocolate or the calories used writing out my "lines" from "Miss"

Just had to have a (small!) glass of wine last night as had a dreadfull day at work - I worked on an excel file for 3 hours went the system went CRASH - and I promptly lost it all
so had to do it again last night.
DH and I still went out for an hour and a half walk - lovely evening...
So here goes for today....
How are you both doing WK and Janz???

JanZ · 28/07/2004 17:51

I went for a run last night. Da DAAH!! (About tie too, some of you might say).

Parked ds with his aunt and dh and I went for a run together - only 25 minutes but at least I got out.

Was back down to 10st 5 this morning - looking forward to the day when I can start moving BEYOUND this low point!

OP posts:
wobblyknicks · 28/07/2004 17:56

Sonnet - willpower - whats that?? I went for a good walk this morning but then went to a friends as I do once a week and, as once a week, she gave me pizza and ice-cream. Have tried explaining I'm on a diet but she says I'm thin enough and I cave!!!

wobblyknicks · 29/07/2004 14:51

Ye gods!!!! The exercise must be working because even after being less than saintly (but still very good) in the diet dept lately - I've managed to get down to 10st1lb!!!!

Just 2lbs to go and I'll officially be in single figures!!!! Can't wait!!!

JanZ · 29/07/2004 16:26

wobblyknicks.

I'm still sticking at the 10st 5/10st 6 I've been for the last few weeks

Two squares of chocolate last night - but apart from that, have been quite good.

OP posts:
wobblyknicks · 30/07/2004 20:29

janZ - you have to exercise exercise and exercise until you're sick of it, then wait till the next day and repeat!!! No pain no gain etc etc

wobblyknicks · 15/08/2004 15:22

CODDY - you've got to get back on here, you'll be proud of me!! I'm finally under 10st, only by 0.5lbs but still UNDER!!!

jasper · 27/08/2004 20:57

JanZ WHERE ARE YOU??
Are you ok? How's the weight loss? Are you, like me, scunnered?

notthecod · 27/08/2004 21:08

wk well done! it sht esleep less nights

Prettybird · 30/08/2004 08:53

I slipped off the bandwagon - got to 10 st 4, then relapsed. Had an excuse for part of it, as had a long weekend on Iona and the hotel served EXCERLENT food (and yummy scones and cream) - but got back 10 days ago and since then have just pigged for the sake of it. (BTW - I'm Jan Z, but I've changed my name).

Now back at 10 st 8 - BUT am now girding my loins to get started again!

Still want to say that I DID lose a stone with Codswallop!

How's everyone else doing?

wobblyknicks · 30/08/2004 09:11

I'm still floating around 9st13 - can't shift that last 5lbs - argh!!! But very proud of myself that I did lose OVER a stone with coddy and have kept it off!!!

Coddy, actually the sleepless nights AREN'T helping because I get too tempted to survive them with Galaxy, crisps and Coke (the drink, not the drug!!) - has to end soon otherwise I'll be 20st before you know it!!!

jasper · 30/08/2004 21:03

Prettybird it's such a slog isn't it? Jolly hard work to get it off and it all slides back on so easily!
However I've always believed the best motivation for losing weight is being/feeling fat so sometimes you need the shock of gaining weight to get your head around losing it.

codswallop · 30/08/2004 21:03

hey fatties!
ok its back on track for al of us
school's back a nd I mean business

Prettybird · 31/08/2004 09:23

Oops - Coddy's back on the case. I'd better get serious!

Japser - it is difficult and yes, I do need a new kick up the back side! You lot will help me! Why are YOU scunnered? Surely the running will have helped? I just can't get back in to a routine of running. And I only have one ds, whereas you have 3 kids, so I can't use that as an excuse.

jasper · 31/08/2004 21:43

prettybird I don't know why but the running has made not an OUNCE of difference to my weight! I have two friends who both did the 10k and who have been running all summer who have had exactly the same experience. it is the most disappointing aspect of running!

I found a great website www.coolrunning.com and this very thing is discussed a lot there . Apparently you burn on average about 100 cals per mile whether you walk , jog or run. If you need a 3500 cal deficit to lose a pound of fat you would need to clock up 35 miles AND NOT EAT ANY EXTRA FOOD! So running is not a particularly effective means of losing weight for many. I have actually gained weight - not muscle, just fat because running makes it much harder for me to stick with weightwatchers

Prettybird · 01/09/2004 09:02

Today is THE day when I re-start my diet! 1o stone 7 for the record.

I've brought in my packed lunch (red cabbage and butter bean slaw and a piece of griddled chicken - left over from supper last night) and some fruit (Vistoria plums from the garden). So there is no need to get a Mars Bar and a packet of crisps from the lunch trolley lady today!

I'll need support as I don't seem to have the focus that I had last time around. But I DO want to break the 10 stone barrier.

Jasper - the other thing the running should do is increase your metabolism, so it IS possible to eat slightly more and NOT put weight on (or should I say "not eat more and LOSE weight"?) Have you seen any difference in your clothes?

Having said that, when I WAS running seriously (years ago now!), I used to find that the shorter distances (under 3 miles) would INCREASE my appetite. It was only when I got into the longer runs regularly (ie 4 miles plus) that I found that it actually SUPPRESSED my appetite.

jasper · 01/09/2004 10:44

Prettybird I have noticed a difference in my clothes - they are tighter!

I know the theory about increased metabolism but have not experienced its rewards in practice

I don't even think I am eating more day to day but I do feel hungrier and probably eat more on social occasions when I relax a bit.

To this end I have decided to cut right back on alcohol as it seems to be the real killer for me.

Prettybird · 01/09/2004 11:57

Jasper! Does it work if you think how much toghter they MIGHT have been if you weren't running - and that you've enjoyed the "extra" you've been eating?!

I agree about the alcohol though. Cutting it out (or rather BACK severely) has made a big difference - and I'm sire it's why I've not put back on as much I as expected (given my recent piggery). But I need to get stricter again. Dh has benefited from my (nearly) abstinence, as it means I am always happy to drive when we go across to my Mum & Dad's for dinner on a Sunday night.

I've already eaten my lunch and my snacks. It's going to be a LOOONG afternoon!

jasper · 01/09/2004 22:19

Prettybird yes, there is some logic to that.

Just a bit dissappointed that so much effort has had no visible results.
I've signed up for another 10k to keep me focussed.
