Wow a couple of days away and the thread has moved 3 pages! Well done on all the losses and fitting into clothes, that is such a nice feeling.

Haven't had too bad a time, more yoga and will be doing step or kickboxing this morning. I am managing to resist the evening snack and I feel less bloated already.

We took the DC ice staking for the first time at the weekend, I haven't been for 25 years and managed a spectacular full front fall and now have some nice black bruises Blush but it was fun! Plus I am counting it as exercise because my legs ached yesterday.

TVHubbyClaire · 06/02/2017 09:53

A very mixed weekend of good and bad for me

I walked 17,000 steps or thereabouts on Saturday including getting soaked in rain.....I followed that up with only a Pret porridge and bought a new jacket in a sale. Its quite fitted so I needed all my losses so far to make it work and its going to be a motivator to keep going....or so I thought{smile}

I then headed to pub and proceeded to drink beer for 6 hours with some peanuts to keep the hunger at bay..........{sad}

Yesterday was a quiet day with a bacon sandwich and Nandos visit later in the evening...just a wrap and corn so not too bad...

Dreading weigh in this morning but only up to 13st 0 1/2 so only up a 1/4 of a pound since Friday weigh in

Hoping that a good week this week will see that weight start with a 12 by Friday......fingers crossed

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 06/02/2017 10:09

Welcome Giraffe!

Pink please don't give up if you have put weight back on. Fluctuations are normal, falling off the wagon is normal, but as long as you keep plugging away you will lose weight in the long term.

Hairspray sounds like a good weekend! Grin I doubt that it is all actual fat, it'll be water weight and glycogen stores probably.

I am having a fast day today to kick off a (hopefully) golden week. Not sure what I will end up eating though, I am planning to just drink lots of black coffee and then grab a salad or something on the way home from work. I'm also aiming for 10,000 steps, which I haven't managed so far this month Confused

Usermuser · 06/02/2017 10:47

Also hoping to do a fast day today. I need to undo some of the damage from the wkend -I haven't weighed as I know it'll discourage me. Also, have already done 7000 steps walking dog. My fitbit tells me I burnt over 500 calories on that walk which seems wildly optimistic...Apparently I did about 100 just lying in bed in the night too, so go me...

I'm so jealous of the people who have started to fit into their clothes again. Well done. It's great to have real proof that your body has changed and not just a number on a scale. The whole weight loss thing just seems so slow, although I know that's a good thing really because it gives us time to settle into new eating habits.

Usermuser · 06/02/2017 10:52

*100 steps, not calories

HairsprayBabe · 06/02/2017 12:18

It was SIL's birthday, (17) but I just cannot party like I used to!

I am very hungry today, probably as a result of my over indulgence at the weekend. Hoping for a very good loss this week to get me back on track and below. Not super worried as I did the exact same thing at the start of January!

Naughtysausage · 06/02/2017 12:31

Just checking in with a nice half pound loss over the weekend. Been for a short jog this morning and about to cook a pea, avocado and egg thing for lunch. Nom.

Kiki even more impressive if you've only been doing it for 3 years!!

Hadtomake really sorry for your loss.Flowers

Sorry for the radio silence chaps and thank you for noticing BOOP Grin I've been rolling around in food and wine for five days and am in serious need of a stern wagontastic week to recover! Bring it on!

Everyone's had a blardy fabulous start to the month by the sounds of it though, I have just had a lovely long catchup Brew The Slenderista Club is really gathering pace, we're going to need more than two threads this month at this rate.

Needless to say I haven't had any especial Vs, NS or otherwise, but I did have a big clearout while DH was out of the way and like BOOP made "fits", "still too small" and "hanging off me" piles: it was a very strange emotional rollercoaster, going from despair at ever getting back into some of my old faves to disbelief at how loose some of the things I lived in just a few months ago are now. I actually shuddered on unearthing a few dresses, remembering the dark times when they were basically all that fit me last winter so I circulated the same drab old things over and over for ages. It's just so nice to be able to get dressed without having to flip through dozens and dozens of things that don't fit.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/02/2017 13:45

Oh I know how you feel quim (nice to see you btw). I love clothes and not being able fit into anything decent really did depress me. Then I got into a downward spiral of thinking I look fat so what's the point of making an effort...

I've already noticed an increase in my shopping habits. Which I need to stop as I already can't get everything into the wardrobe Confused

OP posts:
HairsprayBabe · 06/02/2017 13:53

I have noticed my spending habits are on the up these day too BOOP popped into town at lunch on Friday and bought 3 new tops I didn't plan on getting from H&M all because I could get them in a Medium!

God knows what else I would have bought had I more than a 45 min lunch break!!!

ArseyTussle · 06/02/2017 14:01

I'm an absolute hardcore declutterer, so I only have one thing that doesn't fit at all, which is the dress I'm hoping to diet into for the wedding. I'm very much looking forward to lots of the clothes I already have being looser over the spring and summer.

I'm aiming for a really nice winter coat this year, I only have my school run waterproof jobby, and I'd love to be all fabulous in a wool coat without looking like I've been upholstered.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 06/02/2017 14:59

Random musings, but I've just been lurking on the BSD thread for tips and ideas, and someone says there that carbs cause her to have mental fog. Now, I wonder whether it's more likely that worrying about your weight causes mental fog? Once you commit to a diet plan (whatever it is) you free your mind up a bit because you are not spending ages thinking about fatness all the time? Or do you think that carbs really are terrible?

After a lengthy foray into low-carb in 2012 (lost 2 stone), I then had another baby, then did 5:2 (lost about a stone - can't remember, but I was bf and ravenous so kept falling off the wagon) and then putting it all back on again and winding up heavier than I had ever been Sad, I discovered a few things about myself. No 1: I'm never going to manage to live a life without carbs long term. No 2: I'm never going to be able to do 500 calorie fasts long term. But I can do either for a while. I've also done BSD last summer to lose weight fast for a holiday, which really worked, hence going back to it now. But again, I put it all back on. I need something for maintenance that a) allows carbs, b) allows 3 meals a day and also c) allows for going mad occasionally BUT d) does not allow eating all day every day while telling myself I'll fast tomorrow, because I won't, or that I'll go back to living the low-carb WOE tomorrow, because I won't. I think I can do the No S Diet long term. I hope so, anyway!

ArseyTussle · 06/02/2017 15:39

Hhm. Interesting points, Cheddar. I've significantly reduced the carbs I'm eating, but that's because the reason I'm overweight is because I've been eating too many biscuits, cakes, ice cream etc etc. So, whilst my diet is much lower carb than it was, you could also say that I've just cut out sugary junk, snacks, and excessive amounts of white carbs. I'm still having the odd slice of toast, and the occasional potato, I'm not being too militant about it, because otherwise I'll feel hugely deprived and miserable and will give up.

I do feel clearer headed and less 'up and down' blood sugar wise nowadays, and the scales are moving in the right direction, so for now it's fine. Who knows, maybe when I get nearer my target weight I'll need to be more brutal, but for now a more general approach is working.

And no, I can't stop thinking about food and fatness. Grin I'm thinking about it constantly, and looking at MFP and my running app etc to see how I'm doing.

ponygirlcurtis · 06/02/2017 16:28

What I take from that Cheddar is that everyone is different, everyone's bodies are different, and there is not going to be a single approach that suits all people.

It's been nearly 3 years since I gave up bread, pasta, potatoes except chips if I am eating out and I try to cut out cakes/biscuits/chocolate as much as possible. (Haven't been so successful with giving up the wine though...) I started doing it for health benefits rather than weight loss, although that's an additional bonus, and those benefits - coupled with the fact I don't really miss them - means I don't think I will ever go back to how I ate before. And I was a 'two pizzas in one sitting washed down with cheesecake' kind of gal! It totally works as a WOE for me, but we're all different.

MorrisZapp · 06/02/2017 17:00

Four pounds off in a week here!! It's my first week so no doubt water weight etc but I'm bloody delighted.

I'm not even 'dieting' really, just cutting out all the extra crap. I have to say my new snack free evenings are looooong and bedtime comes as a welcome diversion. I do feel hungry at night but that's my reward for being such a greedy pig for so long.

I have two unavoidable evening meals out coming up this week, I'll probably just stuff my face at both but otherwise be good. If I can maintain or shift a pound I'll be very happy.

5 foot 3
11.10 start
Aiming for 10.7 to be healthy, but if I could get down to 10 I'd be sooooo happy.

Currently 11.6!

Stellar67 · 06/02/2017 17:12

I'd think I'd like to try 5:2 just to try and show myself some kind of disapline. The minute I try and remove something I just want it more.
I can't stop looking at apps either. At work I turn my phone off.

Usermuser · 06/02/2017 17:31

Cheddar, I'm trying to do low carb (relative to how much I was eating before...) and I don't feel that my brain was fogged when I was eating carbs. I don't feel it is fogged now I've mostly abandonned them either. I think low carb does make me feel safe though. Knowing that I can't eat bread and pasta and pizza and cake stops that turmoil of having a bit and then stopping myself eating more and more. I think a lot of people binge on carbs -they're comforting foods: toast, pizza, cake, scones, roast potatoes, pasta. I think you might be right in saying that committing to a diet plan frees up your mind in that once you rule out those moreish foods, you don't have to give them thought anymore. You distrust yourself less. I know I still think of dieting and fat a hell of a lot but it's in more of a positive way. I think in terms of 'when I'm thin again' rather than 'should I have a piece of toast today? But will I be able to stop at one? Oh god, I've had four pieces now. The day's ruined. Might as well just give up.'

lastqueenofscotland · 06/02/2017 18:08

Jaffa cakes while not diet friendly are quite "gaping hole in your mouth" friendly... Dilemma!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 06/02/2017 18:58

Arsey, same here - I'm fat because I eat too many white carbs! So cutting down is brilliant, although I doubt I'll ever cut them out completely - chips are too nice, to name just one. Also I suppose I do think obsessively about weight at this point in a diet (constantly calculating how much I will have lost by x date Blush ) but it just feels a bit more positive.

Ponygirl, I am in awe of your ability to give up bread, potatoes, pasta and baked goods! I think you're right that different food plans suit different people.

I suppose what I'm getting at is that in my dieting so far, I haven't come across anything that deals with my default "normal" eating - ie, eating too much junk, having enormous portions, and snacking continually. This is because 5:2 says to fast to mitigate this sort of behaviour, whereas low carb doesn't address portion size/snacks. BSD isn't recommended as a long-term solution. No S Diet was useless for making me lose weight, but it did come the closest to teaching me how to eat normally to maintain, without cutting out anything completely.

Anyway, I just really wondered what people think will work for maintenance for them. I am determined a) to lose weight and b) to flipping well keep it off this time! B) feels harder right now.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 06/02/2017 20:02

Cheddar I am planning to do eat according to the No S Diet once I reach my goal weight. I might also carry on having one fast day a week and see how it goes. If I find I am gaining weight I will probably do the 5:2 again temporarily to bring myself back down to the goal weight or after holidays etc. when I have overeaten. I think I'll just have to weigh regularly and see what happens!

ponygirlcurtis · 06/02/2017 20:11

Tremendous work, Morris!

No-one was more surprised than me, Cheddar, I was carb queen before. My favourite dinner (made my by MiL) was lasagne with chips and crusty bread! Your default 'normal' eating was mine too. The low carbing is for keeps for me, when I am at target I will just allow myself more leeway with the same stuff I am currently eating. more wine

Hope the jaffa cakes are hitting the spot last. Think you deserve something nice (and solid).
