10 stones, 140 lbs, a whole bloody person to lose!! Anyone else?

10stonestolose · 03/01/2017 12:18

Age:45
Starting weight: 19st 10lbs on 01/01/17
Goal: 9st 10lbs
Plan: low carb, high fat

Well, it's the biggest I've ever been. Feel horrid, but determined to make this the last year of being a fat person. I''m going to diet the shit out of this mess I'm in! I've see threads to lose 100lbs, but not 140. If anyone else is in the same scary boat and fancies friendly, non-judgmental journey sharing, please say hello and share away.

Sikkinis I'm not doing a diet as such. Just portion control and swapping to healthier alternatives. Sadly I don't like porridge(incident when I was a child) or quinoa and couscous.

What kind of salad do you fill your plate with? Just now I have lettuce, cucumber and red onion.

Sikkinis · 14/01/2017 17:32

@littlemissfuckingsunshine I usually buy pre-packaged italian salad leaves as that is my preference, but sometimes the iceberg with carrot and beetroot. That mixed with baby plum tomotoes, cucumber and whatever else is knocking around, onions, peppers etc. If you put it all in a tupperware with your teaspoon of dressing and shake it up (lid on!) it makes it go much further.

lotsawobblybits · 14/01/2017 19:54

sikkinis I'm with you there on the visual trickery, loads of salad or veg. Kale feels more hearty to eat as well- it needs a good chew so you feel you have had something substantial. Drinking water every few mouthfuls makes me feel fuller too.

Pleased with today & had lovely shopping trip with DP-according to my app I have walked 6.9km, & well within calorie allowance even with a Nero cappuccino as a treat. We would normally have a cake with that but I saw the coffee as a treat instead. Motivated myself looking at the designer clothes today thinking I am going to fit in that by the end of summer! I'm not going to buy any more clothes until I'm in a smaller size.

I weighed in this week on Wednesday and since my little disappointing weight loss I've upped the exercise. I've done 10,000 steps most days and am swimming alternate days. Just need to get into a routine.

Went out for lunch today and made very sensible low carb choices. Had a small breakfast and will not have much for dinner. Just a few leaves or something.

Then went shopping and for the first time this year I realised I'd not missed anything chocolatey, or been craving it.

10stonestolose · 14/01/2017 20:48

Hi all, late home tonight after a busy day and too shattered to think about cooking so ordered a takeaway for the first time since starting. Only low carb one I could think of quickly was a kebab, so ordered that, minus the pitta and fries and just had the meat and salad. Not too bad I hope, but ate a massive portion and now feel uncomfortably full. Desperately trying to ignore the free garlic bread with cheese they delivered without us ordering it! It's calling my name.

Stalled badly, i.e. Fell off, so start again today.

Thursday, DS learned he got into the university if his choice, Oxbridge, after a dreadful year last year when his school single handedly undermined all his applications by putting in the wrong predictions. So we celebrated with a Byrons ( and felt ill, not used to it).

Friday was my birthday. So we celebrated with a Thai.

Yesterday was going fine until DS said he'd like to open the champagne I'd put in the fridge for Thursday. And then it didn't go fine, but at least we got to the gym.

Today will go better...

10stonestolose · 15/01/2017 06:55

Oh Orlanda, that's wonderful news! What a clever boy you have, I can only imagine how proud you are of him, you must be bursting. News like that definitely needed a celebration! And Happy Birthday for Friday, what a weekend you've had. Flowers

Well, it's the end of my second week and I've done better than I expected. 6lbs off. Yay! Also managed to tick off my first interim target: 10% off the 10st done! I'm obviously expecting the losses to slow right down now after these initial couple of weeks. I'd be happy with losing 2lbs a week going forward.

And now sorry to bore you all rigid with my stats, but I've found it quite therapeutic working them all out......

10 you're doing amazing😀.

I am doing terribly I think. I do okay during the day then my feeder of an OH comes in and it all seems to go to pot. I weighed in yesterday at 17st 8lb so I'm hoping I can get another couple lbs of by Wednesday weigh in.

NarcsBegone · 15/01/2017 13:08

10 that's amazing! Well done! I think the kebab meat will be fine, firstly is a treat well deserved and secondly it's protein and fat no carbs.
Orlando that's lovely news about your son Smile
My DS is where some of my issues come , he only eats certain foods but most sweet things and I struggle with getting balanced foods in him. When dieting I often cook two different meals and the energy that takes can just be too much sometimes (i have ME). I've put him on a health kick too and I'm trying to cook just once but then the healthy foods that he will eat are boring day in day out. He's autistic and has SPD.
I've also found that leeks and sweet potato are causing me terrible tummy issues and I think I'm going to have to cut out muesli for breakfast so I'm going to try and just have fruit in the morning. I hardly slept last night due to uncomfortable bloated tummy.
I also find that I either buy too little food or way too much and fresh stuff goes off. I have two types of muesli and a bag of granola going to waste now (ds won't eat it).
It's complicated getting the right balance. I'm going to weigh tomorrow.
I have a busy week ahead, London twice to see specialists and I need to do a major clear out of my junk room as saw a mouse running across the living room floor yesterday and think they may have nested in there. I'm hoping the increased activity will be good but also worried I won't eat as consistently and have a crash after exerting the extra energy.

OhHolyFuck · 15/01/2017 14:37

10 wahoo! You're doing so well!
orlando congratulations to your son, what an achievement!

I can't get a measure of how I'm doing, haven't had chocolate/cake/crisps/biscuits/alcohol apart from one tiny flapjack since the beginning of the year, but I still don't feel it's doing anything, first official weigh-in tomorrow so we'll see but I'm not hoping for much

Messing up my eating times too, just now had breakfast which means I'll skip lunch and have dinner at 6-ish but then want something else at 11/12pm...

Also got my first personal training session tomorrow (after weigh-in) - feel really scared and apprehensive actually, having to exercise (which I hate) outdoors (which I hate) with people there (which I hate)!

Lotsawobblybits · 15/01/2017 14:53

Fantastic 10stone. Keep ticking those targets off! You have inspired me to set some targets- I going to have a think and if I put them on this thread then that makes them real.

Orlando you certainly deserve a celebration week- huge congratulations to your son. I bet you are bursting with pride.

Holy fingers crossed for a good loss. I hope your PT session goes well- quite often it's not as bad when you get there as the thought of it- (says I who still hasn't plucked the courage up to go swimming!)

Feel the need for comfort food today, weather here is beyond grey, miserable and grim- and we have done nothing but mope about the house. Had the hairy bikers book out again and they have a healthy lamb hot pot so will give that ago. Food wise so far so good today but it's not 3pm yet. Sundays need a pause button.

harderandharder2breathe · 15/01/2017 15:09

10 you're doing amazing! Well done

OrlandaFuriosa · 15/01/2017 15:59

10, a stone in a fortnight, that's incredible!!!! What a kick start. Well done to getting to the beginning of those targets.

All, thank you so much.. it wasn't so much the champagne as the bagels and chocolates..
But back on the straight and hope to be narrow ...

littlemissfuckingsunshine · 15/01/2017 19:12

Does anyone have a good gammon recipe?

10stonestolose · 15/01/2017 19:41

Just found a couple of gammon recipes in tom kerridge's low carb cook book, but not tried either. Here they are anyway in case they inspire you Sunshine...

Aww thanks everyone for your lovely messages of support. I'm really chuffed with getting my first stone off. Apologies again for all the stats, but it's just anything to keep me focused at the moment. Oh and a small breakthrough today...actually forgot to eat lunch! Literally never happens.

Monday morning again tom, so a perfect time to wipe the slate clean of any slip ups and start the week well.

Simply cook had a trial - 4 recipes and spices, all under 600 calories, for £1
Going to give it a go, just for some inspiration but probably won't carry on as I think it's £8 a box normally

Corneliasedet · 16/01/2017 06:57

Morning all
Would it be ok if I joined too? I have 7 stone 10 lbs to loose which is horrifying me. But I am miserable being this overweight and feeling constantly achey, joints are sore and sick most of the time. I've always had problems with eating whenever things have got difficult. I've been everything from a size 8 to now struggling to fit into a size 20. My brother died from a brain tumour nearly 3 years ago and as we were very close that's knocked me. I had to take anti-depressants and now here I am, huge!
But I am determined to crack this and get back to a healthy weight. I'll be using my fitness Pal and calorie counting. I'm going to think about some goals and post later again when I'm back from work.

10stonestolose · 16/01/2017 08:57

Morning Cornelia, of course, we'd love you to join us. Sorry to hear about your brother, it's so difficult to even think about losing weight when you're grieving and sometimes food is comforting. You sound like you're in just the right frame of mind to do it now though. We've all got to that never-want-to-be-this-big-again moment and luckily it's very motivating. Good luck!

Holy....sometimes it helps to try something new if you're in a bit of a rut with meal planning. Let us know if it's any good. I've gone down the recipe book route, but only ever fancy a couple in each book, so bought 4 already! Something like simply cook might work out cheaper for me.

Morning everyone 😀. It's been a good start to the day, I've done 3000 steps already just taking the kids to school. I've had a Muller Light and a tangerine for breakfast.

I'm going to be joining Slimming World, got a free membership voucher so going to use it. I like the fact I will be able to syn a little bit of chocolate.

10stonestolose · 16/01/2017 12:12

Morning sunshine, might be just afternoon now? You're having an angelic sounding day! Good luck with SW, keep hearing of people shedding tonnes on it.

I'm on plan and back to my walking tonight, so should get my steps back up again. Horrid weather for walking though.

Had my sw weigh in - lost 2lbs!
Then did my pt session - didn't die!
Calling that a win this morning!
