10stonestolose · 03/01/2017 12:18

Age:45
Starting weight: 19st 10lbs on 01/01/17
Goal: 9st 10lbs
Plan: low carb, high fat

Well, it's the biggest I've ever been. Feel horrid, but determined to make this the last year of being a fat person. I''m going to diet the shit out of this mess I'm in! I've see threads to lose 100lbs, but not 140. If anyone else is in the same scary boat and fancies friendly, non-judgmental journey sharing, please say hello and share away.

Flibberty it's so frustrating when you gain isn't it! Totm is always a time I put on a few pounds so it could really be that.

OrlandaFuriosa · 15/02/2017 11:15

Narcs, thanks so much. The refs are really helpful. No official diagnosis as yet, just a consultant for the brain tumour saying it looked like a near certainty. He did indeed suggest graded exercise! I've had something like it, mildly, since I collapsed in my twenties and briefly lost the use of my legs.( A week of being alone in a flat in an area I didn't know with family abroad, scary.) But it's come back over the last year or so. Yes, I have to rest a lot as otherwise I fall over. And the overwhelming sleepiness is such a nuisance on one hand, on the other it's so pleasant...it's overcoming me atm. Being overweight doesn't help.

May I conclude that no one supports underwired sports bras? Honestly, the engineering on my chest will need to as structured as, I don't know, the Millenium Dome or Sydney Opera House.

NarcsBegone · 15/02/2017 12:14

Mine was under wired! I will try and find it on line

pinboard · 15/02/2017 14:24

that bra link is helpful to a lurker like me too, Narcs so thank you.

NarcsBegone · 15/02/2017 15:04

Smile it's actually one of the most comfortable bras I've ever owned. The back has quite wide bits and 3 sets of 3 fasteners. The straps are padded and wide and it's all round awesome! The sizing can be a bit difficult to get right and ordered and returned twice before getting the right fit so may be worth trying to find an actual shop to try on if you're not happy to do the catalogue bit. I've searched for years for the right one and thought I'd never get one. I have big but saggy norks so no underwire wasn't an option

OrlandaFuriosa · 16/02/2017 02:08

Narcs, big but saggy describes me absolutely. Thanks indeed.

OhHolyFuck · 16/02/2017 09:37

Bit of a fuck up yesterday, went 5 'syns'over my daily allowance but since eon have tried to charge me 1.5k on a gas bill and work underpaid me by £300, I'm actually fairly pleased it was only 5 and not 50 syns (or whatever a bottle of vodka is!)

FairfaxAikman · 16/02/2017 13:40

Discovered a wonderful soup recipe that is filling and only 4points a serving (so i have a large serving for 8 points). I'm not a massive soup fan but i think i will be having this again.

10stonestolose · 16/02/2017 23:14

Waves a big, warm welcome to little, fleuricle and pinboard - it's great to see our little thread is still growing and the more the merrier to keep each other semi-sane along this mad journey. Lurkers are just as welcome as posters too, whatever works for you is the way to go.

Holy...you're afternoon tea sounded delish! And what a brilliant weigh-in with 3.5lbs off...you'll have that stone off in no time. I just googled the spoons theory you mentioned. It's really interesting and a great way to promote a bit of understanding with less visible illnesses. 5 syns can easily be made up, hope you sort the utility bill out, that's infuriating when it's a mistake on their part and they don't sort it out immediately.

Orlanda...bless you darling, what a week you've had. With everything else you're facing at the moment, you must have felt completely overwhelmed, yet still managed to be brilliant in a crisis. Hats off to you and if a little bit of ice cream helps you, so be it! Good to hear you've had a lovely compliment and that your cossie and jeans will soon be too big. Hope you manage to find a sorts bra that fits.

Malmsey...great news on the 2lbs off! You sound like you're cracking the 5:2 plan, well done.

Wobbly...thanks, yes I am proud that I'm still on the wagon 6 and a half weeks later, I would have often given up by now. But this time it's different, largely thanks to you lot, it seems to really help me being accountable to complete (but lovely) strangers on t'internet Grin. Omg 2 stones, yee-hah!! That's bloody amazing wobbly, you are kicking obesity's butt right now. Well done you! You'll be in that 2002 skirt in no time at this rate. Yes I agree, some very slim people can have just as disordered a relationship with food as we do, yet can be quite opinionated about diets. I choose very carefully what to say to certain people about dieting.

Narcs...wow 9 sizes in your wardrobe, I thought I was bad with 7! Just think how amazing you'll feel when you get back into those beautiful clothes you've saved. I've saved some gorgeous clothes that wouldn't even fit one of my thighs now, but we will get there. You have an inspirational strength of mind over matter to be able to use your stressful energy to focus on sticking to your plan. Your feeder friend is hilarious, good job you're feeling strong enough to resist. Thanks for all your ME information and your sports bra advice Narcs.

Flibberty...don't beat yourself up about the 3lbs. TOTM can make a massive difference to weight, so you're definitely not making excuses. That 3lbs will be off by next week I reckon. We can do this and yes, keep saying it, it is sinking in.

Fairfax....soup is so good for you. You've just reminded me that I really should make some again, I haven't made any for a few weeks.

I'm having an interesting week trying to juggle working part time with half-term and playdates and Valentine's and friend's birthdays. Managing to stay on track food-wise, but had 2 glasses of prosecco on tues afternoon with friends, then half a bottle of champagne that evening and then another half a bottle of champagne last night. I'm out again on Saturday for DH's birthday too. Think I'll be lucky to get away with that much alcohol this week. Feeling strong and positive at the moment, so pleased with that. Where has the week gone though?!!

MalmseyWhine · 17/02/2017 10:04

Busy day today. This hasn't been a great week nutrionally - not enough water and too much bread. I need to go shopping and make sure I have tasty, quick things available. Nothing like a gross fast day dinner to throw you off stride. I made rotten choices the following day.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Lotsawobblybits · 17/02/2017 12:44

Hope everyone is having a good Friday- another week completed. Only 11 days and then that is February done. Still taking it one day at a time and KOKO-ing, still missing all the good stuff- cakes, biscuits, cream, butter, Pie! Hormones are a challenge this week.

Fairfax You will have to share that soup recipe- it has been my saviour for lunch so always after alternatives.

10stones good to hear you are feeling so strong and positive, you should be able to pull back a few glasses of fizz- enjoy.

Hope everyone has an absolutely lovely weekend. No shockers or crisis! Grin

SaltBae · 17/02/2017 12:49

Hello 🙋🏻

I'm on a long, long journey too. I have lost a stone so far on SW but have many more to go.

Im quite bad at sticking to threads for support but I'm going to try again.

What has everyone been doing so far?

OhHolyFuck · 17/02/2017 12:52

I feel like soup too after reading these posts - going to have butternut squash and chilli I think

Janet80 · 17/02/2017 12:56

If you keep looking it as 140lbs then it is going to be very daunting! Don't picture the final amount, just keep adding up the losses every week.

Janet80 · 17/02/2017 12:57

Gammon, potato, peas and egg for me this afternoon. Yum.

FairfaxAikman · 17/02/2017 14:25

I forget what plan you are following Lotsa?

Lotsawobblybits · 17/02/2017 14:31

I'm Calorie counting, using a tracker app. It's the only way I can get portion size under control. I've used loads of Hairy Bikers recipes as they are all low cal.

Dowser · 18/02/2017 09:18

Did anyone see a thread in chat, Sharonbotts is the mnetter saying she'd lost 7 stone since June with Richie howey.
Looked him up. He seems to talk a lot of sense.
It's all down to calories in versus calories burned.
You need a deficit of 3,500 cals a week to lose 1 pound of fat. You might lose more in the first week or so but a lot will be water.

You find out how many cals a day you use to stay the same, then you go 500 less.
As long as it doesn't take you under 1200-1300 a day
You need to log in with mfp

He advocates sw and ww but warns that if you hit a plateau after losing a lot of weight then you need to recalculate your daily cals as you won't be dragging so much weight around so your body will be using less cals in daily activities.

It all seems to make sense really.

We all know there's no such thing as ' free food'. Eat a mountain of lettuce that is more cals than you use and I'm pretty sure you will put on weight.

Anyway sharonbotts is more than happy with her success so I thought I'd mention him
His videos are certainly very motivational..

NarcsBegone · 18/02/2017 15:08

Dowser that sounds interesting, thank you for sharing.
I've worked out all my calorie things and for my body to maintain I need 2600 a day. I am currently aiming for 1400 per day but rarely make it above 1000 and that is probably where I'm going wrong. I have been at this lowering carbs and cutting fat (mainly because I haven't gone extreme on carbs and I'm waiting for my next dietician appointment so I can prove that it's not working on larger carbs) and I have lost about a lb.

Yesterday I had a 'no fucks given' day and indulged in a couple of those cakes with icing and a cherry on a two scones! But I don't care! I was fed up with getting no where despite trying so hard and I was feeling really really shit. Today I'm righ back on it.
I'm considering going to 5:2 as had a little success with that and I can easily keep to under 500 calories a day. Has anyone got any views on that?

10stonestolose · 18/02/2017 15:38

Welcome along salt, janet and dowser

Malmsey...it's so easy to slip when you haven't got the right stuff available to snack on. Sure you'll be back on track after a shop.

Wobbly...hard to believe there's only 11 days left of Feb isn't it, almost 7 weeks and we're still going strong.

Salt...well done on your stone off. I'm low-carbing without counting, measuring or tracking anything (well apart from my weight of course!)

Janet...I know what you mean about the whole amount feeling daunting. A few of us on here have set ourselves little interim targets to keep us interested along the way. I find it good to visualise myself at my target weight regularly too.

Dowser...off to read the thread you mentioned. I'm always interested in what sort of plan I'll use to maintain as well as lose the weight.

Narcs...chuckling at your 'no fucks given' day Grin. Well done on getting back on it!

Well after a week of basically being an old soak, I'm away this weekend for DH's birthday. So firstly, I'll be out of my comfort zone, secondly alcohol will be involved (again! Blush) and thirdly, I won't be around for my weigh in tom morning. Wish me luck! I'll have to assess the damage weigh in on Monday morning instead. Have a good weekend all. We've made it to Week 7 though!! We really are dieting the shit out of this thing. Way to go KOKOers.

FairfaxAikman · 18/02/2017 17:41

Just half a pound off this week. Pissed off as wanted the 3lb to make 1 stone off

OhHolyFuck · 19/02/2017 10:02

Wanted a really good weekend as the week has been a bit iffy (half term), did really well until I got to work and found someone has donated 50 boxes of biscuits to us - obviously lovely of them but catastrophic for the diet!

OrlandaFuriosa · 19/02/2017 11:09

Narcs, my sister swears by 5:2. She lost a couple of stone doing it and maintains her weight doing it.

If you think about it, it's what almost everyone one in Western Europe did pre Reformation. Wednesdays, Fridays and also Saturdays were fast days. Not Islamic style no water, but no meat, no sweatmeats, limited plain food.

I'm thinking about calorie controlled by 5:2.

My problem remains the late night feast. And fell off for half term, also a couple if busy days didn't get to the gym or pool abs feel the worse for that as well as exceeding calories.

Stupid question, why is not reaching your calories a good idea? Do the body go into creating if more fat?
