10 stones, 140 lbs, a whole bloody person to lose!! Anyone else?

Age:45
Starting weight: 19st 10lbs on 01/01/17
Goal: 9st 10lbs
Plan: low carb, high fat

Well, it's the biggest I've ever been. Feel horrid, but determined to make this the last year of being a fat person. I''m going to diet the shit out of this mess I'm in! I've see threads to lose 100lbs, but not 140. If anyone else is in the same scary boat and fancies friendly, non-judgmental journey sharing, please say hello and share away.

NarcsBegone · 04/02/2017 16:34

Holy I'm told it's about balance but I really struggle with finding it and I'm very much like you're describing, All or nothing and it's so hard to get out of that way of thinking. You've been doing well though and trying hard to draw a line and continuing with it has got to be better than giving it all up and starting again in a few months.*

Box* I absolutely fucked up! It wasn't a reward but took ds to the cinema and had forgotten to eat before we went. I ended up eating a bag of salted caramel popcorn Sad all is not lost though as I am still under calories and as long as I eat no carbs for the rest of the day I won't be too out of line. A lesson learned that I need to be more prepared!

Lotsawobblybits · 04/02/2017 16:57

Well done everyone some fab losses. And if you fall off the wagon- don't worry the wagon will always let you back on!

Doing okay so far, just back from a 6 mile walk in the fresh air- and dare I say it sunshine! Weekends are challenging keeping busy and not stopping appears to be key. My goodness I so wanted some cake in M&S cafe, but resisted and am proud of myself! Hoping the scales reflect this on Monday.

Have a good weekend everyone.

One bad day does not a disaster make. I had a bad day at the pub and still lost.

As was said elsewhere, if your tyre gets a puncture you don't slash the other three. You change it and move on

Flibbertyjibbit · 04/02/2017 23:00

Well done on the losses everyone. I've had a really busy week but managed to stick to low carb even ate out 3 nights running. Stuck to chicken salad and tap water mostly. Had black coffee while friends ate dessert and I drooled over them

Lost 4.4 lbs this week which means I've now lost 1st 1lb in total ...yippeeee my first stone gone in just over 20 days! Quite scary that is just over 10% of what I have to lose in total!

10stonestolose · 05/02/2017 04:40

Hi everyone, had a really busy week, so not been online as much as usual and now it's the middle of the night and I can't sleep, so thought I'd catch up.

Holy...sorry to hear you've been suffering. It's hard enough to do this thing when we're in good health, never mind with the obstacles you face on a daily basis. Slip ups will happen, it's how you deal with it afterwards that's going to be different this time. But you sound like you've recognised that and you're trying to avoid the same old all or nothing behaviour, so good one you for that, it's a total head fuck sometimes.

Orlanda, well done on another 2lbs off! I love your 'every mickle maks a muckle' and it's so true. Thanks for sharing your goals, they really help, especially as we all face such similar journeys. An amazing result getting into the next BMI category too. If you enjoyed your opera day with your son, then it wasn't a bad day, just a treat day. It won't hurt in the grand scheme of things and you've got it with tomorrow's another day!

Pinot....your bag on the scales did make me chuckle! Well done on the 3lbs off. Thanks for giving us some real insight into what it can be like living with a gastric band.

Box...or should we call you Khaleesi? Wink your GOT theme night sounds brilliant. I'm sure it was worth a night off plan. Sometimes we do need to not have to think about dieting and just relax and kick back a bit and just have fun. It means we won't feel miserable and deprived along the way. Well done on your 1lb off and you did it whilst still enjoying yourself - result! Brilliant dog meme pic.

Wobbly....well done on getting past your one month mental block and for resisting the cake in M&S. A 6 mile walk is epic and will make a real difference to calories burned off. Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow.

Narcs...your yes/no lists in the cupboards are inspired! I could do with doing that in my kitchen. What a huge relief it must be to finally get a diagnosis for your son after such a long time and to know he'll now get the help he needs. That's wonderful news. Amazing resisting the pecan slice. Your calories are very low, it sounds like you just need a few snack ideas to fill you up and hit your calorie target without ruining your plan. I would look up some of the slimming world snack suggestions online, as your diet sounds similar to friends who're doing it. Well done on the 5.5lbs off!

Flibberty....4.4lbs off is amazing, well done! And that much despite eating out lots is doubly amazing. You sound like you've got the balance just right.

My week has been a bit hectic and I know I've snacked on cheese too much, as it's often all I can grab easily. I also had a pretty tipsy evening out with a friend and I know prosecco and vodka are pretty low carb, but quite so many of them is really not good. It was a great night though! It's my time of the month too, so not expecting a great loss when I get on the scales later. Right I'd better try and get back to sleep (if it's even possible with DH snoring like daddy pig!) or I'm going to feel rubbish in the morning, nighty night.

Today is a competition day with the dogs so ave clef a lunch to avoid the burger van. Will also be in my feet most of the day so hopefully my step count will be high.

I am on back shift next week so seconded to our main office. I have two goals - to stay away from the charity tuck shop and to only use the stairs (six flights). Fairly sure i will need a break halfway up, but my ail is to be faster on Friday than i was on Monday.

10stonestolose · 05/02/2017 12:08

Box...sounds like you've got your plan in place, so you're much more likely to stay on track.

2lbs off at this morning's weigh-in. It's strange, I feel like I've lost loads as my clothes feel much looser, but the weight is coming off pretty slowly lately. I think I still need foul my water intake and my steps. It's still a loss though, so I think I've just got to stay positive and just try and tweak things a bit. Stats to follow...

Hello, can I lurk for a bit? I've about that to lose, maybe seven or eight stone? I'm not quite ready yet. There are distracting things going on. But I can't afford to get fatter while I wait to be ready. My knees really struggle on the stairs...
Hopefully, seeing how well you are all doing will help me get my head straight.

10stonestolose · 05/02/2017 16:16

Welcome along pickle, lurk away! Very sensible to wait until your head's in the right place, you'll know when you're ready. I'm sure we'll still be here when you are.

Thank you! I can eat the high fat meals, but then I suddenly cave and end up having had a high fat high carb day! I'll get there!

10stonestolose · 05/02/2017 19:32

Ah yes...I'm all too familiar with that infamous low-carb trap.

NarcsBegone · 05/02/2017 21:49

Hi all, I'm suffering serious brain fog today. I hope everyone has had a good weekend and not found things too hard.
10 the yes and no's have actually really helped! I have a particular cupboard that I always go to when hunting out something not great to eat... it's actually not had anything in it for a while but I always open it as a first step. In my mind it simplifies everything. I have my portion sizes next to it and inside the cupboards I have healthy fat sheets, weigh in sheets and various other bits.
I'm weighing on Tuesday and really hoping the popcorn didn't do too much damage. I'm also putting popcorn on the no list Grin

NarcsBegone · 05/02/2017 21:50

Welcome pickle Smile

OrlandaFuriosa · 06/02/2017 07:57

Gloom, gloom. I have been out to lunch, eating bread and butter, chocolate and the inevitable has happened, 2 lb on.

So back to a more limited palate of food.

So easy to let go.

Today is another day..

10stonestolose · 06/02/2017 08:54

Narcs...you are super organised, very impressed. Think you might get away with the popcorn, good luck for tomorrow's weigh-in.

Orlanda...brilliant attitude, today is definitely another day and yesterday was just a minor blip on a very long journey. I imagine the 2lb on will come off just as quick as it went on. Hope the b+b and choc were delicious.

I had terrible day of cravings yest and several times nearly threw the towel in and stuffed my face. Felt really low and like the journey seemed to be taking forever (haha...after 5 weeks! patience has never been one of my strong points Smile) I was a proper grumpy pants too (likely to be hormonal, as TOTM) and spent the day mostly on the sofa under the throw. I did stick to plan, but only just. I did my nails to try and keep me busy and watched a couple of films, whilst bribing DH and DD to bring me food and drinks.

I've fitted nicely into some grey skinny jeans today that were previously too tight (monsoon size 18, so prob equivalent to a size 20) which seems to have perked me up a bit. Working until 6pm today, so I'm prepared and have my four tiny clip-it boxes full of healthy things: carrots and hummous, almonds, babybels and strawberries. Also have an apple and two bottles of water. So armed and dangerously healthy, c'mon Monday do your worst!

10stone go you! Sounds like you're well on track
Sorry you're finding it hard narcs, we all have those days and look at the strength you had to get through it, well done

1lb off for me this week, 7.5lb altogether since the start of the year
Still feel a bit disappointed, there was a woman in my group who lost 6lb in a week despite having a Chinese takeaway...just want to get on the scales and have a 'wow week' even just once

OhHolyFuck · 06/02/2017 10:45

Shit, sorry, wrote narcs when I meant orlando
must have you on the brain narcs!

GatoradeMeBitch · 06/02/2017 10:52

I crumbled last night and ordered diet coke and cookies on the shopping list. But both were subbed for varieties I don't like so I sent them back. It felt like a little cosmic intervention! Grin

Lotsawobblybits · 06/02/2017 11:22

Fresh week and a fresh start.

Box By the end of the week you will be sprinting up those stairs! Lots of small changes & all that!

10stone 2lb off is good going- it all adds up. I completely empathise I have felt the similar. The low feeling as the cravings kick in, almost like a withdrawal & then the feelings of why bother when it is going to take so long. But think of the highs- how great did your skinny jeans feel today or proud of yourself sticking to plan? You are doing fab.

Orlanda Put last week in a box and forget about it- it will come off in no time, you can always get back on the wagon.

Narcs I agree on the organisation- I am much better with a plan & have found weighing stuff stops the portion distortion.

Pickle welcome- you do have to be in the correct mindset- something will just click for you.

After being a miserable cow last week- and weighing myself mid week and not losing anything I am 3lbs down this morning for weigh in. Total loss is 24lb. I'll take that. The 6 mile walk on Saturday must have helped. I just need to up the exercise every day I think, still not summoned the courage to go swimming.

Have a good day everyone and a great start to the week.

Lotsawobblybits · 06/02/2017 11:27

Holy Just seen your update- slow typing! Well done 1lb off is good, slowly but surely it will all add up for you. If the lady had a Chinese then it may well catch up with her as she might start trying to cheat.

Gatorade It's a shame you can't bottle that Cosmic Intervention Grin- there are times I could really do with some of that!

I can smell the burger van on the car park- my mouth is watering! ....must resist!

OrlandaFuriosa · 06/02/2017 16:11

Everything was delicious... but how easy it is to go out with friends, think you are being relatively virtuous ( choose the poultry or the mussels, not the beef, the crumble not the sticky toffee pudding) and wham!

Anyway, in the spirit of sharing triumph and disaster, not sure which this falls into, but it became distressingly ( to me, anyway, though perhaps not to all passers by) apparent this afternoon walking back from the pool that my bra is too big and not performing its function. Not fit for purpose Blush. Please don't say it's stretched, no, no, even though it is grey with use and washing at the wrong temperature Blush no, no, my back has got thinner (please, God) and the 2lb is muscle!

Ha!

Even the physio thought I had lost weight ( a perceptive woman, clearly).

Yay.

OrlandaFuriosa · 06/02/2017 16:15

24 lb, that's fantastic! Well done.

Do join me swimming, virtually, physio raves about it and it is certainly toning bits of me..sort of.. you can begin to feel the muscle underneath the inbuilt central heating and insulation layer ( which currently means I am the one you hold on to in a shipwreck). I've lost many of my inhibitions about it, though I have to admit I still go when few people I know are likely to be there..
