Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017?

TaliDiNozzo · 27/12/2016 11:31

Just that really. I promise myself every year that I'm going to do it then I'm sat here every fucking year still not having done it.

I think I probably need to lose around 150lbs tbh but I thought it might be helpful to have a 100lbs plus thread for anyone in a similar boat to me.

How are you planning on doing it? I am restarting Weight Watchers (at home on the app), clean-ish eating and setting myself a daily step goal. Am also moving house in January/February which helps (in my mind) with the fresh start ethos.

I've spent today thinking about the last time I lost weight properly (which was when I was pregnant and breastfeeding so obviously some extra calorie burn going on in the latter part of that time). So I looked up my records in MFP, which was really handy to remind myself what I was doing then.

The key things were 1) I was vegan back then and because I had someone else (baby) relying on me I thought about veggies etc. and didn't just eat chips and doritos. It's silly because people are still relying on me, just not in such a direct way! 2) I was doing exercise- even just 15 mins a day I logged and was regular. 3) no alcohol- that baby again!

I am writing this out just for me really as I know it's pretty basic stuff but it'd be really nice to get in that head space again, without having another baby!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 21/02/2017 19:16

Two days in a row at the gym is great Rum! I really need to find my motivation to exercise more frequently - my GP suggested doing the equivalent of C25K on the cross-trainer, but that almost killed me last time I tried Blush Still walking about 3 miles a day, so as long as I keep that going, it's better than nothing. I'm still doing the odd yoga video when I remember, but it puts me in a bit of a strange mindset (like I'm ultra-aware of my size) that I feel a bit weirded out afterwards. Bit to unpick there, I think... Blush

Diet-wise, I'm feeling a lot better - I did a lot of research yesterday evening and have actually decided to plump (ha!) for a lower carb/16:8/MFP combo. As per my ramblings yesterday:

  • being hard-core low-carb isn't a long-term option my bum will thank me but I want to keep the carbs down and keep some of the good things I've learned (portion control is much better now),
  • I'm naturally a breakfast skipper and go to bed quite early, so 16:8 is the posh name for that I was a bit reticent about MFP, as I can get a bit fixated on numbers, but this seems to be a better way of just keeping me more accountable - it seems to be easier to use since the last time I tried a few years ago. I also know now that calories are not the be-all, and fat and protein are needed! I also have a very 'convenient' memory when I slip up - it gets forgotten far too quickly! So this will remind me that yes, I wasn't quite as good as I thought, or that I've had a good streak going. Hairspray* I like the idea of being able to look back at times when it was all going well...and yes, without having an infant!

notanurse - I really like that too about this thread. I think it's really important for us - we're on a bloody long road, so it's not a case of changing what we're doing for a month to lose 5lbs etc, our mentality is so much more intertwined than that. Being so big, I know there has to be more behind my size than just 'ate a bit much for a bit too long' - and if I don't address it now, I'm not sure I ever will. Which is a bit scary, and I really do want to lose it this time!

Phew, sorry for the epic essay Blush - DH is fed up of my wittering, so unfortunately that means it's being foisted on here!

BreakingSad · 21/02/2017 21:12

You've all got a great attitude and you definitely have to find something that works for you, is sustainable and to keep trying until you do.

I've never lost the weight and got down to a healthy weight for over 20 yearsBlush, I've only ever lost a couple of stone here and there and put it back on and more.

But I'm in a good place, for me MFP keeps me accountable and seeing it written down is a big help, as I'm a terrible emotional eater, but writing it down even when I've over eaten makes me more aware and I've improved immensely.

I've also found I quite like exercise, but I think it's important to find something you enjoy, which for me is my exercise bike and walking. I'm also determined to be able to fit back into my kayak and not have the fear I'll get stuckShock

You all keep my motivatedSmile

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 21/02/2017 21:47

Breaking - kayaking sounds very adventurous, with my belly, I'd definitely get stuck! I've promised myself some horse-riding lessons once I hit the halfway stage - it's been too long Smile

This thread does seem to perpetuate good attitudes - I'm glad you're all here and making such progress with your minds and bodies. I would have fallen by the wayside (and stayed there) long ago if this thread wasn't here - it's been quite a learning experience Smile

Drunkvet · 21/02/2017 22:48

notanurse I did briefly flirt with the Dukan website but they wanted £500+ for me to join. I think it lasted over a 3yr programme but still...way too spendy
Would just like to say thanks for all the lovely posts on here. It's very uplifting.
I'm starting to realise that this is going to be a long haul. I'd fallen into the mindset of 'if I lose Xlb per week then I'll teach target by Xmonth" I was always ridiculously over ambitious and so set myself up to fail. So I'm breaking it into stone goals and taking it bit by bit. Thanks for whoever first mentioned that. It's made it all less difficult. Smile

Rumtopf · 22/02/2017 11:51

Drunkvet they often have the Dukan books in TKMaxx, I picked one up as I really like the low carb recipes but don't follow the diet per se.

Notractors are you on Instagram? There's a large woman who is a yoga teacher that I find really inspirational- mynameisjessamyn
She's incredibly body positive, contorts herself like a pretzel and has a fantastic mindset about being bigger but still able to practise yoga.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 22/02/2017 20:26

Rum I've just followed her - wow! Definitely inspiration. My DD is a bit young for Instagram, but I'm hoping I can lead her into following women like her. We all need aspirations.

I'm in a great mood today - maybe because I had an apple at work and it was delicious! I'm comfortably within my limits of mfp (but not too far under) and just generally feeling good.

Hope you've all had a good day today Smile

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 22/02/2017 22:28

Realised I lost my train of thought halfway through that post, so sounds a bit odd Blush Apple was delicious because fruit doesn't really feature in a low carb diet and I've missed them - I'm not a freak that gets a high from eating nice apples Grin

As you were!

HairsprayQueen · 22/02/2017 22:34

notractors apples were the thing I craved the most when I did low carb way back when, I just couldn't stop thinking about them!

In normal life I can take or leave an apple but they were like nectar when I couldn't have one!

Rumtopf · 23/02/2017 09:06

Love the random posting about apples Grin, although I'm rather fond of a cold Pink Lady with a low fat babybel as a snack.
Low carb is all well and good but not overly sustainable when you can't have something as simple and unadulterated as an apple!

I properly buggered my knee at the gym yesterday, no idea what I did but it feels like I've knelt on some Lego right under my kneecap and it's super painful to bend, fine when standing and walking is ok. So no gym today but I might go for a gentle swim tonight instead. It's irritating as I had found my exercise mojo!

MirabelleTree · 24/02/2017 07:08

Ouch Rumtopf, hope it feels better soon.

0.75lb off today , smallest amount since I've started which is annoying with surgery looming but hopefully just a blip. Total loss 31.5lbs, 68.5lbs to go.

Next week I want to be at 33 lbs then that's a third of the weight gone,

Rumtopf · 24/02/2017 09:39

A loss is still good Mirabelle and nearly a third of the way there is brilliant!

I've sts again this week which is alright as it's not a gain!

StubbleTurnips · 25/02/2017 08:06

Start: 245lbs
Current: 214lb
Loss this week: 1
Loss: 34lbs
To go: 32 ish

Good week for me, although I don't know how - no walking as the buggy bust and I'm waiting for a new part to fix it and some birthdays (and cake). I've got a couple of weeks until a family event and I'd like to be 15st by then.... 4lbs to go.

BreakingSad · 25/02/2017 08:32

Hope your knee is getting better Rumtopf, I also checked out the yoga lady, very inspirational. Makes me realise I need to stop waiting for a slimmer me and just get on a do it (I do love yoga, but I'm hopelessly uncoordinated)

Well I'm down 3 lbs, so 35 lbs lost and 78 lbs to go. Very happy after sts last week.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 25/02/2017 11:39

Well done all! If I could be bothered, I'd add up a collective total for how much the thread has lost so far - I bet it's almost a person Shock

Much to my surprise, I've lost 3lbs this week, so very happy. Going out for dinner tonight, so expect that to feature on the scales this week, but good to have a loss to kick the weekend off Smile

To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 22 lbs
Left to lose: 102 lbs
Lost this week: 3 lbs

MirabelleTree · 25/02/2017 11:43

Great results everyone, very successful week !

StubbleTurnips · 25/02/2017 14:34

Well done breaking and tractors!

ZestyDragon · 25/02/2017 16:19

Start: 287lbs
Current: 258lbs
Loss this week: 5lbs
Loss: 29lbs
To go: 98lbs
Goal: 160lbs

I now have LESS than 100lbs to go! That's a huge thing for me!

BreakingSad · 25/02/2017 19:53

Way to go Zestydragon and Notractors (it won't be long until you're under 100).

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 26/02/2017 10:03

Well done Zesty! And thanks Breaking - that is my target for this week Smile

Had a lovely dinner last night with MrNoTractors - no idea of the calorie intake, but didn't overdo it, and felt comfortably full. Did have two very nice glasses of red, which kind of knocks my 'booze free 2017' on the head, but will keep this very much as an occasional thing and not go back to mindlessly having a few glasses in front of the tv on a Friday night.

Now to meal plan and shop for the week Smile Hope you're all having lovely weekends.

slithytove · 26/02/2017 15:21

Please may I join? Been doing this on and off for years, got down to 12.5 stone 1.5 years ago and have monumentally messed up since.

Name: slithytove
Age 30
To lose: 100lbs
Lost to date: 3.5lbs
Left to lose: 96.5lbs

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 26/02/2017 17:20

Welcome on board slithytove! Looks like you're off to a great start already Smile

I have had a spectacularly lazy sofa day with the DCs - have meal-planned, but yet to face the shop Blush I might send DH this evening Grin

ZestyDragon · 26/02/2017 18:26

Thanks Breakingsad and well done tractor!

Welcome slithylove :)

I am finding the fitbit very useful over all - I have over 500 active minutes for the last 7 days. That's all the walking I have been doing. I really should start doing something more but I am loath to change anything whilst things are going well. I am very conscious that I should be lifting weights.

slithytove · 26/02/2017 18:54

I am really tempted to buy a Fitbit. Struggle to incorporate exercise sessions in so really need to make it part of my day. Does anyone have or recommend the Alta?
