Hello,

I've mentioned this on a couple of other threads but I hope you don't mind if I start my own thread as I have 2 really important goals this year and want to tackle them both, together.

This morning, I am 14 stone exactly. I'm 5'1' and have never even had kids! (I'm 33). I gave up booze 2 years ago so now time to tackle the cake/takeaway habit. If I lose 2lbs a month, I can be 10 stone in time for (hopefully!) going to Wimbledon this year.

I have taken some "before" shots of myself nekkid in the mirror and entered my weight on fitbit. And am stocking up on healthy food (low GI type idea). I also have a wee stepper machine in the living room so I need to get on that.

RE the debt - long story short this was due to slight overspending mounting up and then being out of work for a while. It's partly overdraft, rest credit card. I should be able to pay this off if I just stop filling my trolley with things I don't need, esp in Tesco. And if I stop buying clothes/random crap. So Lidl it is, going forward! I probably won't clear the lot but if I could get it under 5k that would be great.

So here we go any followers and support is much appreciated.

I wish you luck in whatever goals you have for yourself!

I look forward to Boxing Day 2017 when I should be slim, healthy and financially sound.

WE CAN DO THIS!

Re debt. Never shop without a list and never on a empty stomach and always alone
Make a list of the things you have to pay for (rent mortgage bills whatever). Then save what's left - get a standing order to another account so it goes out without you noticing
It's tough but can be done

sycamore54321 · 26/12/2016 18:10

I can't think of a way of saying this without sounding like a smartarse but if the goal is to avoid takeaways etc, I'd change your username from Chicken Vindaloo.

PinkSwimGoggles · 26/12/2016 18:16

or learn to cook it yourself

squirrels89 · 26/12/2016 18:18

2stone and I need to save 2k

ahalfchipshalfricemum · 26/12/2016 18:29

Nice goals OP - good luck! I would suggest two things to you to help you along the way:

Firstly, don't diet. Change your lifestyle. A fitness instructor I know said you will know ONE thing you need to change (eg: snack on fruit and veg instead of biscuits/cereal bars). Make that one change and when you are comfortable with it and in a good habit, then make another change. Take it slow and steady. It works :)

Secondly, buy the book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo and try to work through it in your life. I know it doesn't seem relevant but I have heard such good things about the knock on effects that book has on other parts of people's lives: healthier lifestyles, new jobs, spending less, etc.

Good luck - hope 2017 works out well for you and everyone with the same goals :)

I'm definitely joining as need to lose around 6st and save money for a house deposit and mat leave.

I'm starting on 3rd Jan so might be a bit quiet until then....

andpeggy29 · 26/12/2016 18:41

Best start selling body parts then 😂

ChickenVindaloo2 · 26/12/2016 18:42

Lol, I actually can cook Chicken Vindaloo myself, with a little help from Patak's! Grin

Once your clothes start to feel too loose sell them, either online or at one of those cash for clothes places. While you're transitioning between sizes then only shop in charity shops, because soon they'll be too large for you too!
See a debt adviser/CAB. They will discuss ALL your repayment or your insolvency options.

Sexykitten2005 · 26/12/2016 19:13

I recommend a delivery saver for food shopping. Its easier to not overspend on food if you can see the total mounting as you add things.

Good luck

Arkengarthdale · 26/12/2016 19:35

Not drinking wine will help with the finances for me as well as the weight loss. I also need to get back to work after being ill and losing my job, so that will help with the finances, drinking less because I have to get up in the morning and using my brain again.

Plainandsimple · 26/12/2016 20:21

Sign me up too! 4 stone to lose and £3.5k debts to clear Xmas Sad. Saw a mannequin in M&S last week wearing a fitted white t-shirt and slim fit jeans - that is exactly what I want to be able to wear Summer 2017! (I snuck a photo and am going to stick it inside the breadbin/biscuit tin/crisps box/wine rack!)

Vote from me here.

Have you considered looking in charity shops for clothes? I have found items with labels on so not worn at all? Possibly bankrupt stock or just never worn by the original purchaser. Think carefully about buying food/coffee outside the house as that sort of thing really mounts up - takeaway coffee should be a treat, not an everyday necessity. If you want a glass of wine as a treat, split a bottle with a friend at home, rather than spending £4 in a pub.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 27/12/2016 17:32

God Im in- 3 st to lose, a 13k debt and I need to save for a deposit.

Its a bit overwhelming actually

ChickenVindaloo2 · 27/12/2016 17:50

Well I have made a start! Stuck to protein yesterday and lost my first pound.

I went for a long walk today and legs will be sore tomorrow!

I've done my budget for January and will be heading to Lidl in the next couple of days to stock up on healthy, proper food at a decent price.

The nights will start getting lighter soon and we will all be richer and thinner by Easter!

Rowgtfc72 · 27/12/2016 18:53

4 stone to lose here too, not in debt but desperate to save.

Im 45 in January, like you said, if not now when?

Back to work tomorrow so not sat in with the fridge all day Grin

Batbear · 28/12/2016 06:21

I'm back at work today so will be taking a healthy lunch and fruit to snack on. I am done with xmas food!

I also plan to drink lots of water and avoid too much coffee.

isthistoonosy · 28/12/2016 06:48

I've also got about 4 stone to lose and although I've no debt I will be a student for the next 18 months so need to be more frugal to avoid debt.
I've lost 6 stone a few yrs back pre babies through calorie counting but I don't know if I have the patience and time.for.that at the moment.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 28/12/2016 19:41

Well day 3 of the new regimes and I'm pleased I'm sneaking a head-start on everyone else at work still sitting around eating mince pies and moaning about being fat/poor!

Had boiled eggs for breakfast and took smoked salmon to work. Had a beef stirfry tonight. (The beef was from the reduced section in Tesco where I also stocked up on mince, ham and chicken!)

186 days til Wimbledon...I've bookmarked the countdown clock...

How are the rest of you doing? Grin
