Hi this a new thread linked to "We want to lose 10lbs NEW THREAD"

I'm a Group exercise instructor/Personal Trainer and have been offering advice to mumsnetters!

Following suggestions that it would be good to start an exercise/nutrition advice/motivation thread - well here it is!!

Oh, a few years back, my Hubbies Job was slightly more regular at tyhat time, and I got into a routine of taking the dog for a really nice long walk cross country every night...that was fabulous....

OrmIrian · 08/06/2007 06:41

Oh yes, oh yesssss.....3 miles!!!

Thanks to my DD coming with me on her bike. Couldn't go flat out because she kept having to slow down to cope with raised curbs, pedestrians, narrow pavements, and we had to wait at crossings because there was so much road traffic. So I managed to go much further and wasn't so knackered. Just felt that I could run and run forever...... until my DD demanded another turn round the park as we were getting home - only managed about 3/4 of that .

So chuffed I can tell you

[Horribly smug emoticon]

speedymama · 08/06/2007 07:45

Well done Ormrian, you are back on form.

This morning at 6.30am I went for a 3 mile run. Last night I also did the basic workout from Taebo Extreme followed by the 8 minute workout.

Hope everybody has a good day exercising.

CayKon · 08/06/2007 08:22

Last night it was getting close to class time and I was so tired from the day that I did consider not going. But I gave my self a swift kick and told myself I would never achieve anything if I don't go becasue I'm tired ( at the end of the day when am I not tired). I did the class and really enjoyed myself got home full of energy slept like a baby and woke up really revived and raring to go. So booked to do jazzercise on sunday

laloop · 08/06/2007 08:52

Hi everyone

Welcome to Caykon - good on you for making it to your class last night, glad you enjoyed it.

Orm, I am soooo pleased for you that the running is back on form, you must feel great after your run. Also very impressed that you've been out already for a run this morning, speedy

The weather was lovely here yesterday, we were out in the garden all yesterday evening. Had a bbq (I ate very healthily!)and a couple of glasses of wine (large, eek!) so feel I need to do a good workout blast this morning to get some energy back

Going to stick on the Max Impact (Nell McAndrew) which I got yesterday. Will let you know how I get on. Right, better go!!!!!!!

laloop · 08/06/2007 12:07

Have just done the Nell "Maximum Impact" 40 minute interval training section- loved it (have posted on the DVD thread)
Found it quite challenging, so now wondering how my legs will feel tomorrow

Hoping the TaeBo set will arrive today

Marls001 · 08/06/2007 21:38

Orm - I really don't think I would - am saved by gym with creche. But weekends, would still get a run in - DH & I take turns every Sunday. 3andnomore - Wow! Kudos to you for getting uplike that! DS2 wakes me up at 5:30 but if he didn't, it'd be hard to do!
Orm - Congrats on the 3 miles!! AND pushing DD - quite a feat. Takes twice out of you I think than just running alone. I always felt so winded & frustrated when I tried to push a stroller.

Welcome back Sweetheart! Been a while since I posted too.
(waves to Speedy from other thread)

Still 8 stone to my amazement. Stomach has gone a little soft so re-concentrating on core. Started doing reverse pushups - can only do 5 in a row right now with good form. Have now worked up to 9 chin-ups in a row! Mostly doing weights; maybe 2x week cardio. Did what I thought were easy exercises yesterday, but I had never done them before. Now am so sore in the quads and backside I can hardly walk! So much for easy. I'll be doing them again. Paying attention to protein in every meal. Though yesterday ate nothing but cereal and candy at least that included nonfat dairy & fiber...

abra · 08/06/2007 21:57

Hi, Can I join in too? I am currently breastfeeding so don't want to go on a strict diet. I really need to loose a stone and tone up my stomach. I have started doing Gabby Logan Twin Results DVD and doing some walking and using a stepper. Thinking about getting a Tae Bo DVD too. I'm not really into an exercise routine though and could really do with some moral support.

speedymama · 09/06/2007 07:51

Abra, welcome.

Check out the DVD review thread for our reviews on exercise DVDs. Please post a review about the one from Gabby Logan.

If you lack motivation, this is the place to be as we all want the same thing - to be fit, healthy and trim with flatter tummies.

My Billy Blank's Ultimate Bootcamp arrived this morning. Whoo-hoo! Won't be able to test drive it until Tuesday though.

I'm planning to do Pilates Ab workout now before going off to London for the day with DTS and DH.

Have a good day everyone.

3andnomore · 11/06/2007 09:56

Hi All, well...did the Fit club DVD workout yesterday and it is a decnet workout....can see though, how it doesn't appeal to everyone, lol!
Orm, well done on the 3 miles....!
CayKon, glad you went to the exercise class and obviously you really liked it, too
laloop, glad you like the Maximum Impact workout IT is a good workout. Lets hope Tae BO has arrived at your house today!
Marls, believe me, it is difficult at times to get up if you don't "really" have to...I have my days, too, like today, when I just can't be asked...lol! But that is because with my mum being here, we sort of stay up to late, really doesn't help at all....when I was on my own I went to bed at 10pm, lol....so, getting up wasn't as difficult.
Abra, welcome here...
Speedy, do let us know how you get on with teh Bootcamp one
Oh, I won the everybody get ripped Tae BO workout, and really got myself a Bargain....paying £3 incl. p&p for a brandnew DVD....wohoo Can't wait for it to arrive
Well...better be off, want to get some Horemanure and need to pick it up!

sweetheart · 11/06/2007 10:14

Morning all,

Right, time for me to get back to reality and stop living in holiday mode!

Hello to the new people, you've made the first step by posting here so well done

I weighed in this morning. I've put on 6 Ibs and I can really notice it. My belly is back, as are my love handles

It is 7 weeks today until we go away again so I suppose a realistic goal is to get back down to what I was before - which I was pretty happy with.

I am going to the gym at lunch time and plan to also go tomorrow and Wednesday. Then I have netball Thursday and I'll try and get on my cross trainer on Friday.

You all really like your VD's don't you! I just wouldn't find time to do one at home - also don't really have the space and we have a very large lounge window so all the neighbours would be able to see me so I'd feel a bit silly!

Good luck to everyone else this week, see you later!

laloop · 11/06/2007 16:47

Hi everyone
Sweetheart, you'll have those 6lbs off in no time

Welcome to abra

I have put a few lbs on over the last week as well. Dd came down with a stomach bug on Friday evening and my diet/fitness plan went AWOL. Very little sleep and no opportunity to exercise much. My hayfever is also atrocious at the moment so I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself. Really need to get a grip - I lose a few lbs and yet again put them straight back on again
Any words of encouragement/motivation gratefully received

But...cheered up a bit as my Taebo DVD arrived today (Everybody get Ripped). Will give it a try in the morning if I get dd back to school.

3andnomore · 11/06/2007 20:25

Sweetheart, 6Ibs will easily be lost again, once you back in your normal routine. I always find that if I have only just put on the weight it drops as quickly off as it went on, if I do something about it there and then.
Laloop, aww, you poor thing, it's horrid when the Kids are ill! But enjoy your everybody get ripped Tae BO workout. I am hoping I am going to get that through tomorrow.
And hopefully the ones from Amazon also come through soon
My mum is here for another week, and as much as I enjoy having her here, it completely has thrown my normal routine...doesn't help that we tend to have a drink on the night, which has a knock of effect...but hohum, once she is gone and once my dh is settled back home (he should be back this week some time), I will start again properly and detox myself and go from there.
I am still gonna try to get down to 9st, only now I won't have a time frame....which has it's advantages.
Have done eff all today, but will do somehting in the morning.
How is everyone else getting on?

Also, anyone here that could help me wiht my questions here

abra · 11/06/2007 21:16

Hi everyone, just off to do my Gabby Logan workout. Like I said I am one stone heavier than pre-pregnancy which is not really a huge amount of weight but it has ALL gone on my stomach and I went from 33-31-37 to 33-36-37. Gabby Logan toned up after having twins so that is why I got her DVD. I'd looooove a waist again. By the way, does constantly mopping a bathroom floor after a potty-training toddler count as cardio?

laloop · 12/06/2007 10:02

Enjoy your workout abra

I am feeling tired out again today, was up during the night with dd who is still ill and off school . Ds2 also up a few times as per usual.

Just feel like slobbing out this morning but I have a mountain of laundry to sort through and the house needs a really good clean and tidyup. Will put some music on and go for it after I have a cup of tea. Will maybe feel better once it's all done, here's hoping...

Need to get back on track with the healthy eating plan, fed up with losing and putting on the same half stone which is what I've been doing over the last few months.

Going to have a laloop bootcamp, anyone want to join me:

  • exercise every day for at least 30 mins
  • NO junk (biscuits, crisps etc)
  • NO alcohol during week
  • get 5-10 portions fresh fruit and veg daily
  • put £1 into a jar for every day I stick to this so that I can treat myself to something nice in a few weeks
laloop · 12/06/2007 10:03

Oh, forgot about adding to my list...

  • drink 6-8 glasses of water per day
Shrinkinglily · 12/06/2007 10:21

Hi Laloop (it's Rosylily by the way) I changed my name to put me in the mood for losing my pregnancy weight! I have given up chocolate for the past 10 days and I'm doing yogalates 3 times a week. So far I've lost one pound

Anyway, I know you are keen to slim but you do already look great you know. Especially when you are not getting good sleeps.

My ds2 age 2.6 is up at least once a night and baby up twice and sometimes dd is up too!so I know what it's like. If I don't go to bed early I'm sunk.
I think that when I am not sleeping my metabolism grinds to a halt.
It is really hard to shift weight when stressed!
But I was eating a bucket load of chocolate every day....at least one big bar a day

laloop · 12/06/2007 11:07

Hi Rosy/shrinkinglily

Lack of sleep is a real bummer, isn't it! For the last few days I've woken up way more tired than before I went to bed. And then when I feel as tired as this I just seem to want to eat stodgy, starchy foods like big plates of buttered toast. Vicious circle because I feel even worse as they just make you even more lethargic, can't win, eh!

Good on you for losing 1lb in the last week or so, what age is the baby now? We'll have to meet up again soon

Well, I have got stuck into the cleaning. Put on Destiny's Child and blitzed the kitchen in no time so at least that's one room done now as just have to mop the floor.
Dd and ds2 are "sorting out" the toyboxes in the living room so it looks like a disaster zone in there - but it's keeping them quiet so think I'll leave them to it
Just the vacuuming, dusting and bathrooms to do now.

If I have time I might even stick on Taebo for a quick blast before we pick up ds2 for school, will see how it goes...

How's everyone else today?

Shrinkinglily · 12/06/2007 11:25

He's 3 months. I put on 3 stone (as usual) in pregnancy and I've only lost one of them. So 2 stone to go. (sigh)
Yes I wake up in the morning feeling wrecked I'm trying to eat porridge for breakfast most days. As long as I eat good gi sort of stuff I can resist the junky food.

Housework is good excercise! Sometimes I get an energy burst and get loads done but most of the time I'm reluctantly and slowly doing little bits at a time. Dragging my feet I am! Sitting on mumsnet and cuddling the baby...house a mess

sweetheart · 12/06/2007 11:55

Hi all,

Feeling a bit achey from the gym yesterday! I'm planning on going for a run this lunchtime but not sure how well I'll do after 2 weeks off. I def noticed a fall in my fitness levels yesterday so doubt I'll do 5K!!!

Laloop, sorry your dd isn't well! I hope she's better soon. I'd love to join your bootcamp but I think I'd fail miserably!!! I'm that same as you - as soon as I loose weight something happens and I pile it back on again. I'd really love to get down to my pre-holiday weight and stick to it. I've been trying to get to 9.5 stone for a year now and it's just not happening! Very frustrating!

Abra - flabby tummy comes with the baby I'm affraid - I've spent the last 18 months trying to shift mine! It does reduce in time but I'm starting to think the only definative answer is a tummy tuck!

Shrinking lilly - You'll be surprised how quickly the weight comes off if you really stick to it. I've lost several stone since my ds was born (he's 18 mths).

How's everyone else?

I'll report back after my run - I bet it's a shocking result!

laloop · 12/06/2007 12:09

Good luck with the run, Sweetheart, you may surprise yourself and be able to manage more than you think
You'll be back up to the 5k in no time at all

speedymama · 12/06/2007 12:32

Hi everyone,

Sweetheart, running and diet will get rid of a flabby tum, I speak from experience.

Well I did my new Taebo Ultimate Bootcamp DVD this morning and it is not for the faint hearted. It was tough, relentless and targetted. I'll give a review on the other thread later.

I'm going on holiday for a week in Torbay and I want to flatten my tummy further and take another inch of the waist. So this is my diet for the next few weeks:

breakfast is bran flakes with skimmed milk,

lunch is tuna salad, apple, banana, tangerine, kiwi fruit, plum and grapes

Dinner will be small portion of carbs and protein and lots of veg or salad.

In addition, I will drink about 4 pints of water a day. With exercise, that will hopefully do the trick.

laloop · 12/06/2007 13:06

Speedy, I've just watched part of the instructional section of the Tae Bo "Everybody Get Ripped" and completed the 8 minute workout. Billy rocks!!!! At the begining of the workout I was thinking that it was quite easy but by the time I got to the squat and kicks I was FEELING IT Think I spotted Marge in the crowd behind him, was looking out for her

I feel a lot better than I did this morning when I woke up really tired and down. So regarding this morning's challenge to myself I can tick off so far...

  • exercise every day for at least 30 mins done (housework and DVD)
  • NO junk (biscuits, crisps etc) done ok so far (I know it's only lunchtime but still...)
  • NO alcohol during week (this should be easy enough I hope, too early in the day to be giving myself a pat on the back on this one)
  • get 5-10 portions fresh fruit and veg daily (so far have had a banana, cherries, strawberries mixed with yoghurt for brekkie so on the right track)
  • drink lots of water (2 pint glasses so far, quite a few toilet trips as well)
  • put £1 into a jar for every day I stick to this (here's hoping....)
sweetheart · 12/06/2007 14:20

In the style of Jo Wiley....

What Rocks...

I not only managed to run 5Km but I did it in 31mins shaving 2 mins off my last time (20 mins at 10Km/Hr, 2 mins walking at 6Km/Hr, 9 mins at 10Km/Hr) AND if I keep this up I'll be super trim in no time!

What Sucks...

I couldn't find my socks in my gym bag so ran with none and now I have the worst blisters I've ever had on the in-steps of my feet (oh and I found them on the floor in the changing rooms after my run!!!) AND I actually feel quite light headed and sick so if I have the energy to keep this up I'll probably keel over by next week!

speedymama · 12/06/2007 14:42

Laloop,

I'm glad you are feeling better and I'm going to take a leaf out of your book. I too will put £1 in a jar for every day I exercise plus another £1 for every pound I lose before I go on holiday in 5 weeks. I will then use the money to treat the DTS on holiday because my treat will be the fact I will be super sleek.

The 8 minute workout is deceptive. It starts off easy but by the time you get to those killer squats you can really feel it. Just look at Marge and tell youself that if a 73yo can do it, so can I. Hope you a psyching yourself up to the Advance workout eventually!

Well done Sweetheart on your run. I suspect that your faster pace is due to your body being rested and your residual fitness. Keep up the excellent work and the 6lb you put on will fall off in no time.
