Hi this a new thread linked to "We want to lose 10lbs NEW THREAD"

I'm a Group exercise instructor/Personal Trainer and have been offering advice to mumsnetters!

Following suggestions that it would be good to start an exercise/nutrition advice/motivation thread - well here it is!!

I'm going to make a cuppa and have a good look at the DVD link again - some great prices! Which ones are you thinking of ordering, speedy?

Decisions, decisions ... shall I do the housework before I do my Davina workout or after? What a dilemma

How is everyone today?

speedymama · 06/06/2007 10:22

I'm thinking about
Learn Yoga
Pilates Essentials
Urban workout
Belly DDance for Body Sculpting abs
10 minutes Solution Carb and Calorie
The Ultimate Bellydance Fitness workout

I would do Davina before the workout personally.

I'm off to the gym later this afternoon.

3andnomore · 06/06/2007 10:26

Hi, lol...this thread is turning into a Exercise DVD Addiction thread, lol

I have ordered the following 2 over that link that I posted:

Coleen McLoughin - Brand New Body Workout by an Amazon seller called: selectcheaper
£3.64 incl. p&p

Kathy Smith: Super Slimdown Circuit [2006], by Amazonseller :thermite-uk , £4.91 inclusive p&p

Oh, my Nell McAndrews Peak Energy DVD and Kates Cardio Combat arrived today...woohoo Will try to do Kates Cardio Combo tonight and Peak energy tomorrow morning.

This morning I did the Basic Tae Bo get ripped workout and the 1. workout on the Hollywood Workout DVD...so, roughly 50minutes.

Had to lol at this Nancy woman saying you should focus your eyes on a focal point up at the wall/ceiling whilest doing sidelunges (left and right )....how the heck is one meant to focus on a point when moving sideways in big lunges, rofl....! I mean, I got his comment about not looking at your feet whilest doing it, because that will get you off balance...but come on, a fixed focal point...surely not????

Anyways, hope everyone is getting on alright

speedymama · 06/06/2007 10:31

I'm seriously thinking about getting some counselling.
I recently got £360 rebate from British Gas so want to splurge £20-£30 on treatig myself (I will save the rest - promise)

laloop · 06/06/2007 10:31

Lol re workout
I had another read through your exercise dvd thread and have just ordered Nell McAndrews' Maximum Impact and Billy's Everybody Get Ripped, woo hoo!

Let us know what you think of the DVDs if you get any new ones. Enjoy your gym sesh tonight

laloop · 06/06/2007 10:34

Hi 3anm

laloop · 06/06/2007 10:37

Off to do my workout then the upper body/abs section of Davina

speedymama · 06/06/2007 11:31

Well, I've ordered the following:

Pilates Essentials
Belly Dance for Bodysculpting Abs
Belly Dance Party
Core Abs by Shiva Rea
Urban Dance workout

I am now applying a self-imposed embargo on buying anymore exercise DVDs

3andnomore · 06/06/2007 13:00

lol...yeah, I will also from now on have to control myself...lol...saying that...if I would be able to get the Vicky Entwistle one and the Charlie Brooks one as a real Bargain, I may not be able to resist, lol!
Also, saw on German teleshop channel the Tae Bo Bootcamp series advertised, and it looked brill, it also includes some sort of resistence band thing...no idea what they exactly are, and he shows exercises with that...but hohum!
Oh,not yet won the Tae BO everybody get ripped DVD, still got another day at auction, but so far am the only bidder, so there is hope
How much does it cost over the Website I linked, too..any idea?

speedymama · 06/06/2007 13:10

Everybody get ripped on that website cost £11.17.

I saw that Taebo bootcamp DVD too and was sooooooooooooo tempted.

laloop · 06/06/2007 13:11

My order for new copy of E'body get Ripped was £8.75 from that site, hth!

speedymama · 06/06/2007 13:51

Oh fellow exercisers, please forgive me for I have sinned.....

I bought Billy Blank's Bootcamp DVD

Right, I promise, no more spending!!!!!!!!!

3andnomore · 06/06/2007 14:05

Hm....I could see the Everybody get ripped for £11+ but not £8+...hm....do you have a link? Or maybe you got the last one for that price....well...lets hope I get it over E-bay...it's a used one, but could be a bargain!

Speedy, rofl...you hvae sinned indeed
I saw the whole Bootcamp set on a Fitness website, just now, for just under £30, so, think that I might wish for it for X-mas, or something....the way I am going, I think I ought to have enough Workout Dvd's by now, anyway...so, suppose it wouldn't be justifyable....hm...mihgt ask for it for my Birthday, lol!

Honestly think we need to set up EDA (Exercise DVDolics Anominous) thread, lol...where will it end

OrmIrian · 06/06/2007 14:23

How do you all find time to do exercise at home? I can't. There's always to many bodies about and people using the TV for PS2 or CBBC. I do yoga first thing before anyone is up but only for about 10 mins - and that's lapsed a bit TBH

Tai chi was weird. I couldn't shake the feeling that it was something that well-meaning people would organise in old folks homes.... . The teacher is quite clear that it's Quigong only (apparently that's the excercise bit not the martial art). I did feel relaxed and I'm sure it will help my various aches and pains but not sure I'm that interested.... I'll have a think. Can't go next week as I'm going into school to meet DS#2's teacher for September.

sweetheart · 06/06/2007 15:08

Hello!!!

I'm back! I'm really sorry but I haven't had chance to catch up with what I've missed so hello to anyone new!

Had a lovely holiday - have def put on a few Ib's! I won't be joining you again until monday as it's dd's birthday tomorrow which means cake and it's our wedding anniversary this weekend so we are going out for a nice dinner.

I promise to get back to being healthy and fit next week though and I'll try and cathc up on everything I've missed in the meantime.

Take care everyone, speak to you again soon

sweetheart · 06/06/2007 15:18

p.s. Laloop - just seen your race for life time - well done !!!

3andnomore · 06/06/2007 15:20

Hi Orm, I get up really early to fit exercise in...at first always around 5.30am, now I try to be up and watered (i.e. have a glass of water before exercising)by 5.15am.
Sometimes, for some strange reasons, my younger sons wake up really early and get up with me (even though they used to sleep till nearer 7am until I started getting up early, sods law)....however, if they do they either watch a DVD or so in my bedroom or they read a book, they now know better then to disturb me, lol!
And then I try to exercise either in the Afternoon or once the younger ones are in bed....must admit, I have no problem to tell them that it's my time to exercise and that they are better off finding somehting else to do, then hog the TV, lol....tough nasty mum that I am!
Recently I ahve read some inspirational stuff which made me decide that indeed I have the right to claim time for myself and that in the long run not just I will benefit, but also my family will benefit.

laloop · 06/06/2007 16:21

Hi sweetheart, welcome back

3anm, I can't find the DVD at that price anymore on the link. But rechecked my order and it is definitely £8.75 - nearly sure it was listed as brand new but maybe I've ordered a second-hand one by mistake??? Will soon find out if it arrives in next few days.

Speedy, you said you weren't going to BUY anymore, tut tut
Sure if you use them, then we can't really say the DVDs are a waste of money now y'know

OrMirian, I try to fit in a DVD every so often but invariably have ds2 (2yo) under my feet trying to join in (he even uses one of the little 0.5kg weights that I have during the upper body workout on Davina)

It's lovely and sunny here this afternoon, going to sit in the garden and chill out for a while (well as much as I can with my 3 dc's and dniece charging around!).

OrmIrian · 06/06/2007 16:31

Time is too tight in this house - once we're all back from work/school and I'm into lunch box/dinner/housework mode there's no time. I run when my DH gets back or first thing (I too get up at 5ish sometimes 3and). I have no problem with demanding time for myself - but demanding time and space is too problematic . Not to mention I usually aquire several other kids for a few hours in the afternoon. I'm better off out running where it doesn't bother anyone.

speedymama · 07/06/2007 08:59

Good morning everyone.

DH was working late night so after putting the twins to bed at 7.15pm, I decided to do Nell McAndrew's Ultimate Challenge all the way through.

It is indeed a challenging workout and I will leave my deposition on the exercise DVD review thread. If you want to do this all the way through, you have to be fit. The constant running on the spot, jumping on the spot, jumping jacks, ski jumps along with copious arm acrobatics followed by killer squats is punishing. The main cardio part last about 40 minutes and trust me, you feel it. Each time a bail out sesssion came up, I had to resist.

I even did the extra workout so I worked out for about 90 minutes. I felt brilliant afterwards, especially as I had not eaten anything since midday so I had a jacket potato with a little butter for dinner followed by two crackers and a couple of wine gums. I thought I would treat myself with the wine gums.

DH is working late again tonight so I will probably do Taebo Energise basic workout followed by Pilates Abs.

Hope you have a good day exercising.

3andnomore · 07/06/2007 12:55

Orm, I am lucky, I suppose, as I am a SAHM, so, I suppose in a way it makes it a lot easier to fit things like exercise in....I bet, once you get home there are so many things left for you to do, that you don't get time for anything and then it's bedtime.
No idea where you find the energy to do anything exercise wise at all, tbh....!
Laloop, It probably was new, a lot of the sellers have brandnew items....! But it was probably this sellers last one, so, that is why it isn't coming up anymore. Lucky thingHope you like it Oh and did the Tae BO Ultimate Collection turn up already? Well, really hoping for you it turns up before the weekend
Speedy...yes the Ultimate challenge is just that, isn't it....I think I have bought the DVD's the wrong way round, lol....did Peak Energy today, and of course it's still a great cardio workout, but compared to the other 2 workouts this one is most definately easy I couldn't believe how quick the 40 minute cardio/Interval workout was over...at first the little time barometer did worry me, but in the end I felt it made time seem to pass quicker. But blinking heck, the Upper Body workout is tough on that DVD, isn't it....now on the Ultimate challenge it isn't easy or naything, but nohting compared to that one...I thought my arms would fall off, lol! And I was unable to do any of the Push ups, as my wrist really hurt to much (no idea what that was all about, hohum)...
Did Kate's Cardio workout last night, and it was quite good. Not as brill as Tae BO...but that would be difficult to achieve anyway....it was easy to follow , too, so, that is always a big pluspoint
Got my Fighting Fit/Fighting Fat Harvey DVD through the post this morning, so, will do that later or tomorrow morning

Oh, I mentioned the other day that I had set myself a weightloss challenge, i.e. told my dh I would be 9 st next time he sees me, which should have been end of August....well...he called yesterday and told me he is coming back next week, as they need him here...so...hm....won't be 9 st by then, lol! Hohum...but pleased he is coming home

Anywya, off to write a review for those 2 DVD's

laloop · 07/06/2007 15:17

Hi all
Got the Nell McAndrew DVD this morning, won't get a chance until tomorrow morning to try it out though as I've been busy helping out with some stuff for the dc's primary school.

We'll be going away to our caravan at the weekend if the weather stays good (it is hot, hot, HOT here today!). Will keep active with the dc's, cycling and walking. Will maybe fit a run in too. Have been thinking of getting a second-hand kajak, if I can pick up a bargain, to use on the nearby lake with dd and ds2.

Will try to pop in tomorrow morning to let you know what I thought of the DVD. If not, have a lovely weekend everyone. Happy exercising

CayKon · 07/06/2007 17:04

Hi all, I am new to this thread.
I haven't exercised in a while, try to at home but never seem to find a free time with an 8 week old and a 14month old. So tonight is my first exercise class I figured if I had to leave the house then I couldnt be interupted. I have 20 20 20 tonight. Which involves 20 mins of aerobics 20 mins of step and 20 mins of body conditioning. Wish me luck

speedymama · 07/06/2007 17:44

Welcome Caykon.

Good luck with your workout!

3andnomore · 07/06/2007 20:21

Caykon, I am sure it will be lovely! The good thing about going to a class is, that you really getr away from everything, mihgt make some friends, or at least be able to have some normal adult conversation, not necessarily revolving around your Kids and you being a mother!
I would love to join a class, but at this time it';s not possible...dh just doesn't work regular hours and trying to find Babysitters is a mare, lol!
One day again, I am sure of it!
What I truely hope to take up again one day, is Horse riding....one can hope, eh!
